Jamie W. and I were honestly not on a Great Gay Bar search in Honolulu, but we happened upon this one as we were deciding where to have dinner in Waikiki. We had already visited Hula's Bar & Lei Stand on Kapahulu, and like Hula's, Bacchus was somewhat discreetly on a second floor, in this case, of a building that looked like a deco-style South Beach motel shared with Siam Square Thai Restaurant. Vibe-wise, if Hula's was like "La Cage aux Folles", Bacchus was more like "The Boys in the Band". The main bar room was compact and would've felt a bit claustrophobic if it didn't feel so friendly and inclusive. There was not a seat to be had inside as most eyes were glued on "The Real Housewives" on the big screen. There was a narrow balcony outside, and a departing sweetheart of a patron offered the two open seats. We grabbed them, and I ordered a pair of refreshing $8 Classic Mai Tais made with light and dark rum, orgeat, curaçao, and lime juice (photo: https://bit.ly/41LCpap). As our serving space, we used the empty flower basket hanging over the railing as we watched a parade of beef pass behind us. Jamie got our second round, a pair of $8 Lilikoi Margaritas salted on the rim and with an extra kick of tequila (photo: https://bit.ly/3SSL4Uu). Already tipsy, we skipped the bar bites and moved on to our dinner destination. COCKTAILS - 4 stars...just what we needed to wet our whistles for wolf calls and otherwise AMBIANCE - 4 stars...packed but friendly, clean restrooms SERVICE - 4 stars...happy, obliging bartender TOTAL - 4 stars...is there a Honolulu city ordinance that gays have to imbibe on the second floor? Fun spot always great to be there for trivia or drag shows. Nice staff who are very attentive with no attitude. Clientele is also friendly locals mixed with vacation travelers!

This place was happening the night we stopped by. Actually second time here but first time didn't get in. It was during covid when they were only limiting amount of people in at a time. Didn't want to wait for a drink then. But on this visit, it was a busy night but a good crowd. Bar area does get just so I recommend getting a drink right when you get in. There did have someone checking id when you come up the stairs. There's a little outdoor area along the walkway to the restroom. Good crowd and great music.

Located on Lewers Street Half a block before the Alawai, you'll see signage and outdoor stairs. Heading up to the upstairs bar. I went on a Friday night for the RuPaul's drag race watch party on four tv screens scattered throughout. Great crowd, great energy. One bartender until seven he was awesome. The drinks were tasty, and the price is so reasonable. They do serve personal sized pizzas when there are more than one bartender what I saw from the table next to me. It looked delicious!. Definitely will come back.

I had a one day layover in Honolulu on my way to Los Angeles. A dear friend lives there and decided to spend the day in Waikiki took a look at some of the gay bars and it was mid afternoon and I knew everything would be quiet, but I decided on a visit to Baccus. Easy to find off of one of the main avenues, but you do have to walk up some stairs. It's a small bar but very comfy. There were only a handful of people having drinks. I like it quiet so it was great. The bartender was very friendly. The drinks were very good and I like the music they played. The bartender told me gets really busy on Friday and Saturday night which I'm sure it does. It was a nice way to spend the late afternoon having a few drinks in Honolulu. The good: friendly bar, strong drinks, friendly staff. And it's an intimate place. The bad: actually nothing I can think of for a gay bar. It's pretty laid-back. Chances I'll be back: oh for sure whenever I'm back in Waikiki, I'll stop by hopefully maybe on Friday or Saturday night to see it going on all its cylinders. I like small bars as opposed to noisy big ones.

Our group inside of Bacchus. The bar lines the one side of the venue. You can just make out the front entrance behind us

Bacchus was awesome. A smaller bar venue but still held quite a few people. Located on the second floor you walk in to a small open floor with some scattered tables and booths. There is a raised table on a platform and a DJ in the corner. The bar top takes up just about the entire one side. There's an open balcony with seating and you have to go out there to use the restrooms. The restrooms were just a couple stalls and were fairly clean. The staff was excellent. The bartender that served us was so nice and she was recommending fun stuff to try. The outside balcony was also vaping friendly. We thought this included all smoking, but you can only smoke cigarettes on the ground floor in front of the bar. Being our first time we didn't realize this, but the bouncer was super chill. He kindly let us know cigs aren't allowed on the balcony and to come back up when we were finished. He also recommended another LGBTQIA+ bar to go to after because Bacchus closes at 12am. We wanted to stay out a bit later and he steered us in the right direction. The drinks were good! A decent pour and well balanced mixed drinks. The shots were huge. Our group loves to go out and these were some of the biggest shots we've seen! The music was club music with someone taking requests and keeping it upbeat. Good stuff you want to dance to the whole time. Overall loved it here and would go back in a heartbeat.

Came here a few times during our weeklong stay. All the workers were friendly, approachable, and informative. Unfortunately it was during the pandemic so they did close at midnight but that didn't stop them from making their guests feel welcome. If I come back to vacation, I'd surely stop by here again.

Best margaritas in town by far.

The ambiance and service is great. Good hang out for visitors to experience. The small vibe is great for people to come and enjoy reasonable drinks.

    If you say so. ;)

One of our go-to bars. Bartenders always great, always remember my usual drinks, and the price is right especially compared to other places.

It was a Friday night and we got there at 10pm and although it wasn't full of people, we absolutely LOVED it! The VIP table was spacious and we had a stripper pole to dance with and it was super fun! We got Tito's vodka and it came with 3 mixers of our choice and Redbull. The servers were fun and attentive and made excellent drinks. The cost was about $350 and totally worth it! The DJ played a good mix and since our group age ranged between 24 to 54, everyone had fun and liked the mix. I look forward to returning and bringing more friends

They just don't have the space. So we can probably only spend two hours here maximum especially if you're wearing heels although maybe some people can wear heels all day without sitting. The problem and the disappointment is that the drinks are way too expensive. $16 for mediocre drinks that are mostly ice cubes in small plastic cups. And then, if they do have specials, they run out of them. Before the event even starts. That's my biggest problem with this place. This is the only queer space on the island that has weak small drinks. For a high price. That is not a typical culture of a queer space. All the other queer spaces have much larger stronger better drinks, and the prices are lower. It's really a bummer because I will only order one drink here and then if I want to have more drinks go somewhere else. But it's OK shouldn't have to drink to have fun anyway as I suppose. Even the Republic has bigger better drinks, and they're not even a dedicated queer space.

As the night went on, the bar got much busier, but we continued ordering drinks (I had around five, my boyfriend had four), paying for every karaoke song. The experience changed because of the bartender's attitude. We put in a couple of songs back-to-back since we knew we'd be leaving soon, and he seemed irritated by it. That didn't make much sense to me, especially since it's a karaoke bar and customers pay for each song they sing. The other bartender working was also putting in multiple songs throughout the night, so it felt like there was a double standard. Another issue was ordering drinks. The bar is extremely small, so after placing our orders, my boyfriend would step a few feet away to make room for other customers to get to the bar while waiting for the drinks to be made. We never left the area--we were literally only a few feet away--but the bartender acted like this was somehow a problem and gave us attitude over it. Toward the end of the night, about 20 minutes before closing, I turned in one last song request for my boyfriend. The bartender told me they weren't taking any more songs, so I simply threw the request away and moved on. Then he came looking for me afterward asking what the song was. At that point, I was over the interaction. Overall, the atmosphere and karaoke were fun, but the customer service really took away from the experience. We spent money on drinks, paid for every song we sang, and treated the staff respectfully. I just expected the same courtesy in return. I would have enjoyed the night much more if the bartender had been more welcoming and consistent with how customers were
