I searched for camping rentals online when I went to the Gorge for ABGT Weekender, and I found them and was pleased to know they offered complete kits for rent instead of renting each item for a fee. The gear is basic, but very functional, well-maintained. I got the concert camping kit and added the kitchen kit which worked well for me and my buddy. Will consider renting from them again for camping trips in the PNW. The convenience of not having to lug my own gear in flights is all worth it! read more

I've never used a service like this but wouldn't go any other way. Shannon and team were responsive, accommodating, helpful and set our camping trip up for success on a positive note! I just visited Seattle for the first time and attended a concert at the Gorge. I used back 40 outfitters to rent camping gear and it was the best decision we could have made. We had everything we needed. It was nice to not have to worry about buying equipment and returning it or losing money. Very easy. Shannon, the new owner, was extremely helpful and accommodating. Fantastic service. We were flying in for a camping/wedding outing outside of Seattle and had no way of getting our gear there for 2 adults and 2 kids. The price is incredibly reasonable and pick up/drop off is easy (even meeting us in July 4th to drop off). Only possible con I'd say is that they should provide better chairs (was afraid they were going to break and cup holders didn't hold average beer w/ coozie) and a battery powered or manual air mattress pump (not always convenient to air up at vehicle). Would also be helpful if everything was branded or marked in case your camping in a large group to make it easier not to get stuff mixed up with others. Otherwise, Drew and his team were great and I'd definitely recommend them to anyone. read more

Wow. Drew was unbelievable, I had a group of 10 men flying in town for a bachelor party and we were procrastinating as usual. The bachelors wanted to go camping at Mt Rainier, and scrambling I literally emailed Back40 3 days before we needed gear. Luckily, I got Drew. Keep in mind, this was memorial weekend and REI and every other camping gear rental store was booked. Somehow, Drew made it work. He got enough tents, sleeping bags, air mattresses plus cooking utensils for 10 grown men in 2 days (due to even more scrambling on my party's end) and made it happened. We had one of the most memorable trips, and Drew was SUPER helpful; he gave us honest opinions, his costs were cheaper than most other places, the equipment was just fine. We were in 20 degree weather, so yeah, Drew did good. NOTES: please don't be like my group and email/call ahead of time (at least four weeks) before any trip/national holiday. Let them know if you're a novice or from town, what ur plans are and they will be consultative in helping you decide what u need. They did not over charge, they were honest, genuine, and being from LA that is rare to come across. Thanks again guys. read more

On my last day of camping, it poured and I was concerned about packing everything back in the appropriate sacks while wet. The gear looked a little beat up and the sleeping bag/liner didn't have a great odor to it. Made me wonder if the sleeping bag was actually cleaned or not. The tent worked fine except the rainfly pole was too long to fit in the pockets. The original must've broke and they didn't get the proper size to replace it. The one thing that really set me off was when I went to return the gear there was hardly any room left in the locker. There was a ton of other gear in there and I really had to struggle to fit it all back. As I was pushing down on the cooler to make it fit the lid came down and hit me in the head so hard it left a huge bump/bruise on my head which was super painful. I sent an email letting them know what happened and never got a response. I guess they thought ignoring it was the best way to handle the issue. Oh and one last thing, they never followed up with me after I paid. I had to send an email the day before my trip to ask where I was picking up and didn't get a response till late saying they thought they had sent me that info already! ‍‍‍. I can't say enough wonderful things about Back 40 Outfitters. A group of us from SF rented a hodgepodge of camping equipment for Sasquatch Music Festival. I know we weren't an easy group of mostly camping noobs, but Nate and Drew were super patient and accommodating to our schedules, equipment needs, and budget. We didn't realize we'd forgotten sleeping pads until hours before our drive to the Gorge, yet Drew managed to deliver it on time and with a smile. One suggestion to make the experience even more seamless is to secure a permanent place in the city for people to pick up or drop off equipment at their own convenience. But overall, amazing experience and definitely makes me want to go backpacking in Washington again. read more

Drew provides an amazing service. We flew in from Denver for a 3 day show at the Gorge. Not wanting to fly with gear or buy stuff at Walmart I would just throw away I reached out to Drew. I rented the 2 person festival camping package with 2 shade tents. Our flight landed late and Drew was their waiting for us. The gear is all brand new and works great especially the shade tents which provided a large amount of shade and were sturdy in the high winds at the Gorge.
