Brought son and his buddies for a birthday get together. I really do like the old school bowling alley vibes, but it's gotten more expensive. I paid $117 for 3 for an hour and half, which includes shoe rental. Then the guys wanted to play pool. It was $25 for one hour and 15 minutes. For that price, I expect better placed pool tables and better lighting. The table in the corner, the lights were off and the fixtures looked like they hadn't been dusted in ages, people had written in the dust that had piled, plus there was a hanging dust thread. Gross! All service was fine, I just think the value has gone down, considering housekeeping.

Amazing customer service!!! Thank you Lisa, Joel, Andy and Kevin for the amazing customer service and hardwork! Very hardworking guys! I came and took my son to a bowling night with the Glendale Community College students and counselors and was very happy with the service provided. I ordered chicken wings and it was amazing! Manager was super nice also and all the staff in this bowling place! Highly recommended!! Good job guys!!

Came with the family for the annual Christmas family championship complete with a trophy . This bowling alley was very clean. After customers finished bowling and left , the staff was quick to sanitize tables and seats. What's a bowling alley without a bar.. full bar, mocktails and beer. Also a grill for food, good selection on menus. Although we didn't buy any food since we were going out afterwards. Video Games for kids in the Game Zone. This is one of 2 bowling alleys my family frequents. It's not as glitzy but was easier to get a reservation than the other one.

Our family loves to bowl! Back Alley Bowling in Glendale is a classic bowling alley that's perfect for families and kids. We recently took advantage of their "kids Bowl Free" bowling deal. We arrived when it opened and the bowling alley was clean and well-maintained, it had a classic bowling alley vibe. Since we arrived early, it felt like our own private bowling alley. The staff is friendly and helpful, and they were great at explaining the kid-friendly bowling deal. We appreciated the pro tip about free parking on the next block, metered parking is available in front of the alley if you prefer. They have food and drinks, and a full bar. The menu options looked decent, and the prices seemed reasonable. The eating area is spacious with plenty of tables and TVs all around. Vending machines are provided if you need a quick snack, they also have a water bottle filling station which is a great bonus. The arcade is small, and basic. They also have two pool tables which are a fun option for adults and personal lockers for your belongings. Bumpers and ramps are provided for smaller kids, however the ramps can be a bit wobbly. We had a great time at Back Alley Bowling and would definitely recommend it to families with kids that want to have the "Kids bowl Free" deal, call ahead to see to what deals they have.

Honestly it was not really all that to me! The best was the bar I ordered my friend a drink and the drink was good my friend said. the bartender was very patient and kind so that's a plus! The Dj was not all that to me and the music was not poppin' the pro is that it is spacious and have many bowling lanes. They do however, have a long wait and we waited for a while to get a lane. It's very busy on the weekends so be prepared to wait. I did not bowl but the lanes have decent seating area for you party or family. It is very kid friendly and good for family! They have food to choose from and many drink options! They have parking in the lots adjacent to the Glendale Court House! Overall, not sure if I'll be back I feel it can be more modern and a little updated, and better Dj to make it live!

    Bowling fun!

It was my first time here for my nephews 13th Birthday Party. It was so much fun for everyone! I usually help at the birthday parties, but Lisa, our dedicated host for the party, had it all under control. Tables were set-up early, lanes ready and she checked with the parents about food timing, location and how the bowling lanes should be set-up. Super easy with all the adults on one lane and the teenage boys on 2 lanes sharing the space. I also enjoyed being away from the league bowlers so the boys could be as silly as they wanted to. The food was surprisingly good for a bowling alley - pizza comes with the party and we liked the meat one the best. Add on chicken tenders too - I liked them the best! You can bring your own desert - and we had a cake from Porto's which Lisa brought out at the end, served and then cleaned-up and boxed all extras. I really wish we lived closer so I could have my son's birthday there. So easy and fun for teens.

Ask the Community - Back Alley Bowling - Glendale

Has Jewel City Bowl changed ownership to Back Alley Bowling? Is the restaurant still the same?

The owners have not changed we just rebranded as we also have Back Alley Bowling in Northridge (also known as Matador Bowl). The restaurant is still the same although we occasionally make a few updates to the menu to keep it fresh and tasty. Hope to…

Whats the minimum age, my son is 3?

There is no minimum age is required for bowling. We have bumpers and bowling ramps so kids of all ages can enjoy.

Is it possible to just walk in and pay for a lane or do I need to reserve it ahead of time?

it is much easier to make reservations because there are a lot of leagues that bowl there. also they have crazy long wait times, esp on fri - sun. but if you don't mind the wait and what not you can just walk in and try your luck at getting a lane.

I'm bringing some people to bowl on Thursday i dont know how many are coming do i still have to reserve ahead of time? I dont have a complete head count could be 5 to 20 not sure. Also, can we bring store bought cupcakes?

Hello Marie. Please call the center directly at 818-243-1188 to arrange for your party on Thursday. Also, we do allow store bought cupcakes. We look forward to seeing you!

Is there a max number of people per lane?

As of now, we are allowing a maximum of 5 people per lane.

    Do you have pro shop?

Yes we do have a pro shop! Please call the center directly to confirm hours of operation. (818) 243-1188

    Is the place pet friendly?

We love pets but unfortunately we are not pet friendly.

    Are you guys open today?

We did reopen back in April and are open 7 days a week! Times vary but are listed here on Yelp.

Do you have gutter bumpers for children?

Yes. We do have gutter bumpers that can go up and down for each individual player.

Is there an early morning discount?

There are several different party packages & prices. I don't recall all their options. However the party planners are very helpful & can help you have a party within your budget;)

Do you offer 5 pin bowling?

Our apologies but we currently only offer 10 pin bowling.

Do they have a Saturday night happy hour?

    Unfortunately, not at this time.

What time do they dim the lights on a Wednesday?

    9pm I believe

It seems like the complaints and positives are pretty consistent and accurate. The bad: The woman working the front reservations desk was notably unfriendly and unwelcoming, with a negative energy right off the bat. She seemed weirdly annoyed at the presence of customers. And this was at the beginning of the day. I can only imagine what it's like at peak evening hours. There's a total of 8 lanes. We were surprised to find there's a strict one hour limit for lanes unless there's no one else waiting. It would have been helpful if they posted this on their website. A countdown started at 30 minutes left and was displayed on the score screen. The really weird part was at about 10 minutes left, our scores disappeared and never came back. We were still able to play but it was not cool that our whole game's scores were just gone. The time limit made us feel very rushed, which was especially awkward because we ordered food and drinks. The good: As many have said, the best thing about Highland Park Bowl is the beautiful vintage interior design and cool history. There's a lot of impressive detailing and it's fun just walking into the space. We thought the food and drinks were pretty good. We got Pesto Genovese and Contadina pizzas, Calamari, and some cocktails. Though I'm glad to have checked it out, unfortunately with the customer service issues, I was left with a negative feeling and would hesitate to come back.

Not sure what he meant by that, but I did bowl better than my usual average of 65. Prices are decent and we took advantage of the 3-game special where the third game is half-off. Balls are in pretty decent shape and they have small to X large for everyone. Pro tip: there's a pretty good bar in here, sort of a hidden spot for locals here. If the usual popular sports bars are too crowded when a big game is on, I usually just come here. Lots of beer on tap, the screens are pretty large, and their burgers and fries are pretty good. They had about 4 portable fans but that did not help or make a difference. All of my guest were super uncomfortable it was embarrassing for me as a host to have everyone come to a party where it is almost 90 degrees inside. To top it off there was about 3 other parties & only ONE party host (employee) to help with all 4 parties. My party started at 4 I had guest who had arrived already & we're all waiting around for the kids game cards. We did not receive our game cards till about 420 bc the party host was super busy helping the other parties, getting anything took forever. Our party ran out of water & I asked for the water jug to be refilled & it took about 20 minutes to have refilled. I felt bad for the party host he was doing the best that he could, super unprofessional on management to not have more staff help with all of the parties they had booked. The employee that was explaining the laser tag rules was super RUDE, he asked do we have any birthdays today my 7 year old raised her hand & said me & the employee rudely goes we know it's your birthday. HOW RUDE! Why even ask that then. I was told this by multiple guests. The restroom disgusting! No soap just hand sanitizer. The laser tag room was even hotter. All of my guest came out dripping sweat that most of them didn't want to do the next round bc of how hot & uncomfortable everyone was. Super disappointing and embarrassing. The whole point of me booking a party was so that my guest would be inside and not hot during this summer heat wave. WOULD NEVER BOOK A PARTY OR COME HERE AGAIN.

The staff were very friendly. You definitely feel the 80s/90s nostalgia with the games and decor. They have pinball, video games, driving games.... Including all of the classics like Pac-Man and donkey kong. A/C was definitely on, so it's a great place to best the heat. Plenty of hand sanitizer bottles available and the bathroom was clean. There are also a small selections of snacks and drinks available for sale.

Neon Retro Arcade is an Old Town/Old Pasadena must…read more It's a kid friendly hub, but just as fun for adults if not more. Open daily from Noon til 10pm, 7 days a week. Everything is set to free play with a paid admission fee. You can do hourly pay or a set price for all day play. There's probably about 60 different arcade style games ranging in many decades including 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s favorites. Pinball, Mario Kart, Mortal Kombat, Marvel Vs Capcom (my jam), Super Smash Bros, Basketball Pro, Pac Man, NFL Blitz, Rampage (arcade game of my youth), Donkey Kong, Tron, The Simpsons and so many others. Soft drinks, great lighting, a spacious layout. Neon Retro offers cool holiday deals and specials, hosts fun events, IG giveaways and keeps the fun going all year long. It's still only $15 for unlimited hourly play or $25 for a day pass. No food is served here other than snacks (think chips and candy), but so many places closeby to eat before or after your Neon Retro Arcade fun!! It's not a barcade like EightyTwo or Player One so it's alcohol free. They're all welcoming and very personable. I do know they have a capacity limit and weekend tend to be the busiest until around 4 or 5 pm. Nights and weekends are definitely lower in foot traffic, but still great energy. I don't make it over too often, but highly recommend experiencing once or thrice. They just had a cool 50% off hourly prices for Bonus Level Loyalty Club members, and yes it's free to be a member :) Local street (meter), paid lot and garage parking available. Gender-neutral restrooms. Great for groups or just you.
