Home place of my bowling league. Great food and the customer service is amazing and friendly.

Oh no didn't pick up that spare!!!

Came with the family for the annual Christmas family championship complete with a trophy . This bowling alley was very clean. After customers finished bowling and left , the staff was quick to sanitize tables and seats. What's a bowling alley without a bar.. full bar, mocktails and beer. Also a grill for food, good selection on menus. Although we didn't buy any food since we were going out afterwards. Video Games for kids in the Game Zone. This is one of 2 bowling alleys my family frequents. It's not as glitzy but was easier to get a reservation than the other one.

Our family loves to bowl! Back Alley Bowling in Glendale is a classic bowling alley that's perfect for families and kids. We recently took advantage of their "kids Bowl Free" bowling deal. We arrived when it opened and the bowling alley was clean and well-maintained, it had a classic bowling alley vibe. Since we arrived early, it felt like our own private bowling alley. The staff is friendly and helpful, and they were great at explaining the kid-friendly bowling deal. We appreciated the pro tip about free parking on the next block, metered parking is available in front of the alley if you prefer. They have food and drinks, and a full bar. The menu options looked decent, and the prices seemed reasonable. The eating area is spacious with plenty of tables and TVs all around. Vending machines are provided if you need a quick snack, they also have a water bottle filling station which is a great bonus. The arcade is small, and basic. They also have two pool tables which are a fun option for adults and personal lockers for your belongings. Bumpers and ramps are provided for smaller kids, however the ramps can be a bit wobbly. We had a great time at Back Alley Bowling and would definitely recommend it to families with kids that want to have the "Kids bowl Free" deal, call ahead to see to what deals they have.

Honestly it was not really all that to me! The best was the bar I ordered my friend a drink and the drink was good my friend said. the bartender was very patient and kind so that's a plus! The Dj was not all that to me and the music was not poppin' the pro is that it is spacious and have many bowling lanes. They do however, have a long wait and we waited for a while to get a lane. It's very busy on the weekends so be prepared to wait. I did not bowl but the lanes have decent seating area for you party or family. It is very kid friendly and good for family! They have food to choose from and many drink options! They have parking in the lots adjacent to the Glendale Court House! Overall, not sure if I'll be back I feel it can be more modern and a little updated, and better Dj to make it live!

It's still Jewel City Bowl on the signage, but I think they are re-branding to Back Alley Bowling. It was great to go back, my son really enjoyed himself. The last time we went, he was little, so as a teen, he was able to bowl better. In fact, so much better, picking it up by the second game, he bowled 2 smoothly delivered strikes, placing me in 3rd place! The pricing is very fair, I recommend paying per game, per person, which is only $7, that way you don't have to rush through an hour ($45), just take your time and have fun. The food was good, we had burger & fries, and the hot chicken sandwich is very good! We shall be back because it's such a fun activity, especially for kids.

    Bowling fun!

Ask the Community - Back Alley Bowling - Glendale

Has Jewel City Bowl changed ownership to Back Alley Bowling? Is the restaurant still the same?

The owners have not changed we just rebranded as we also have Back Alley Bowling in Northridge (also known as Matador Bowl). The restaurant is still the same although we occasionally make a few updates to the menu to keep it fresh and tasty. Hope to…

Whats the minimum age, my son is 3?

There is no minimum age is required for bowling. We have bumpers and bowling ramps so kids of all ages can enjoy.

Is it possible to just walk in and pay for a lane or do I need to reserve it ahead of time?

it is much easier to make reservations because there are a lot of leagues that bowl there. also they have crazy long wait times, esp on fri - sun. but if you don't mind the wait and what not you can just walk in and try your luck at getting a lane.

I'm bringing some people to bowl on Thursday i dont know how many are coming do i still have to reserve ahead of time? I dont have a complete head count could be 5 to 20 not sure. Also, can we bring store bought cupcakes?

Hello Marie. Please call the center directly at 818-243-1188 to arrange for your party on Thursday. Also, we do allow store bought cupcakes. We look forward to seeing you!

Is there a max number of people per lane?

As of now, we are allowing a maximum of 5 people per lane.

    Do you have pro shop?

Yes we do have a pro shop! Please call the center directly to confirm hours of operation. (818) 243-1188

    Is the place pet friendly?

We love pets but unfortunately we are not pet friendly.

    Are you guys open today?

We did reopen back in April and are open 7 days a week! Times vary but are listed here on Yelp.

Do you have gutter bumpers for children?

Yes. We do have gutter bumpers that can go up and down for each individual player.

Is there an early morning discount?

There are several different party packages & prices. I don't recall all their options. However the party planners are very helpful & can help you have a party within your budget;)

Do you offer 5 pin bowling?

Our apologies but we currently only offer 10 pin bowling.

Do they have a Saturday night happy hour?

    Unfortunately, not at this time.

What time do they dim the lights on a Wednesday?

    9pm I believe

Hands down, without a doubt, best bowling alley food I've ever had in my existence. I'll start with the pizza because pizza is my favorite food. I was hesitant because I was at a bowling alley and I guess I've never had good food at a bowling alley until now. But when I looked around at all the pizza being served to different tables I just had to try it. I ordered the pepperoni pizza, and honestly it was sublime. I loved it. It was thin, crispy crust, good sauce, good cheese, good pepperoni. I devoured it. This pizza is better than most pizzas. I enjoyed it just as much as I have enjoyed Wildcrust, possibly enjoyed it more. Simply put, Highland Park Bowl makes a great pizza. Also got the calamari. Truly didn't have high expectations, maybe because I was at a bowling alley, but this calamari was shockingly good to me. Way better than expected, and would 100% order it again the next time I'm here. Additionally it was a pretty good sized portion. My wife ordered the burger and fries. She loved it. I tried it. I loved it. Fries were amazing. Would order it again for sure. The ambience is very cool. Had no idea this place has been around for like a century. Loved the vintage feel. So much character. Staff were super friendly. Although I think they may have been short staffed when we went. It seemed like there was only one server taking care of the whole place. She was really nice though and our food came out surprisingly quick. Came at 5:30pm on a Thursday and parked on the street right out front. Street parking is 1hr up until 8pm I believe. We were in and out of there in less than an hour. I timed it haha. Loved coming here and will be back sometime!

The Dude Abides. I'm…read morenot a devoted bowler, and when I do bowl, I am either completely helpless or sometimes pretty good, but either way, it is a fun sport and an entertaining diversion. This place is like a time warp. It's 99 years old as of this review and has a colorful history that you can read about on the website. In short, during Prohibition, "patients" would see "doctors" upstairs (where the restrooms are located now) and then fill "prescriptions" downstairs for booze and bowling. I'm sure the Dude would approve. Now, you just fill your prescriptions directly at the bar, cutting out the middleman. There aren't that many lanes but we came on a Saturday afternoon and didn't have to wait. The place just oozes history all around, from the banners on the wall, to the old school bowling ball return system. There are also lots of old photos up the staircase and on the second floor, too. The food we tried--a hot dog and a giant pretzel--was good and better than your average bar food. The cocktails, er, prescriptions, were nice looking and decent but a little odd. I had a mango whiskey sour. It was boozy and decent but a little strange (mango?). I would suggest ordering traditional cocktails, perhaps a White Russian, instead of the ones they offer on their drink menu. The two bars are gorgeous, by the way. The prices are high, of course, and definitely not Dude-friendly. The "hidden" speakeasy--a tiki bar, of all things--is at the front entrance. This place was a lot of fun. I would gladly return.

It was a busy night apparently, but the lane next to us was empty for the duration of the time we were there. Interesting, but whatever. My cousin, who competes in local competitions, said the lanes are kind of whack as the pins go down a bit too easily and reward the crappier players. Not sure what he meant by that, but I did bowl better than my usual average of 65. Prices are decent and we took advantage of the 3-game special where the third game is half-off. Balls are in pretty decent shape and they have small to X large for everyone. Pro tip: there's a pretty good bar in here, sort of a hidden spot for locals here. If the usual popular sports bars are too crowded when a big game is on, I usually just come here. Lots of beer on tap, the screens are pretty large, and their burgers and fries are pretty good. Their cocktails are pretty solid as well. Happy rolling!

I came back on a separate day to offer my patronage and support. Parking is plentiful. Interior has an old school look and feel to it. Quite nostalgic! Very clean and organized, but not super bright. Most house bowling balls were old, dirty, and chipped. I don't use a house ball since I have my own personal bowling ball. They may want to invest in some new balls... just saying. Their bowling games were $9.50 per game that Saturday night. I ended up not bowling. I would love to return to take advantage of their Early Bird Special at $4.75 per game which is a great deal from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM on the weekend. League rate is $5.00 per game which is a steal, too (please note league must be hosted by Action Lanes to qualify). Bowling shoes are $5.00 per pair which isn't bad, but I have my own shoes so I don't need them. Please check out their other rates and promos online. I wasn't a fan of how the helmet smelled though and of how the smoke smelled from the GoKarts. It was my first time trying it out so I don't know if that's normally how it is. I also didn't get to try the batting cages because they were closed 15 minutes before midnight, even though they advertised this spot closing at midnight. The Laser Tag activity was a pretty big space and I didn't find it stuffy at all, which was good. The VR next to the Laser Tag though was stuffy but at least there was an overhead fan. I personally don't trust how well they clean and disinfect the head masks, that's why I didn't try it. The arcade area was pretty limited in terms of games but they're always a good activity to do as an alternative from the other activities that have lines. Didn't get to try the mini-golf or the "bowling" area due to time. I like the outdoor patio and the ambiance of the string lights when you want to get some fresh air. Lots of families seated wherever they wanted and kids had a lot of stuff to play around with. Looking to see how this spot will compete with Round1 opening up soon in the mall. The water cup station is super handy, but they didn't want to refill the waters near the end of the night and the cups also, so we had to ask at the bar. I like that there's a good amount of staffing here who were all working hard. There's a few bathrooms spread out in the place. Parking is big in the back, just gets pretty dark.

This sucks. My autistic son's birthday, he wanted to go here. But yall closed the whole facility…read moredown for a private event. We drove from Ventura for this place.. It was just 3 of us. Mom, dad and son. He has no friends, and he sees the other kids having fun but we have to turn back. I doubt M2B cares though.

If you like classic video games, this is the place to come and play…read more The name Neon Retro Arcade is well suited! It's a small place, exceptionally clean and family friendly. Staff alike were very friendly and helpful. We came early evening but do not let my pics fool you- this place gets busy and crowded. It's really light on your wallet too; all you can play for a full hour. (Pay per player) Restrooms available. Parking structure directly across the street. Highly recommended!

Neon Retro Arcade is an Old Town/Old Pasadena must…read more It's a kid friendly hub, but just as fun for adults if not more. Open daily from Noon til 10pm, 7 days a week. Everything is set to free play with a paid admission fee. You can do hourly pay or a set price for all day play. There's probably about 60 different arcade style games ranging in many decades including 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s favorites. Pinball, Mario Kart, Mortal Kombat, Marvel Vs Capcom (my jam), Super Smash Bros, Basketball Pro, Pac Man, NFL Blitz, Rampage (arcade game of my youth), Donkey Kong, Tron, The Simpsons and so many others. Soft drinks, great lighting, a spacious layout. Neon Retro offers cool holiday deals and specials, hosts fun events, IG giveaways and keeps the fun going all year long. It's still only $15 for unlimited hourly play or $25 for a day pass. No food is served here other than snacks (think chips and candy), but so many places closeby to eat before or after your Neon Retro Arcade fun!! It's not a barcade like EightyTwo or Player One so it's alcohol free. They're all welcoming and very personable. I do know they have a capacity limit and weekend tend to be the busiest until around 4 or 5 pm. Nights and weekends are definitely lower in foot traffic, but still great energy. I don't make it over too often, but highly recommend experiencing once or thrice. They just had a cool 50% off hourly prices for Bonus Level Loyalty Club members, and yes it's free to be a member :) Local street (meter), paid lot and garage parking available. Gender-neutral restrooms. Great for groups or just you.
