On paper this place looks solid. It's a great location, the restaurant has a neat design/exterior and the menu (on paper) is killer. That's where it ends, hard stop. We ventured out to the area for a rare night out with another couple and I left embarrassed for recommending this place. Our entrees, salads, apps, and a soup literally all came at the same exact same time. Annoying and incredibly unappealing for a "fine dining" restaurant. No apology, just threw the food down/. Red flag one. Repeatedly forgot drink orders, instead of apologies and quick fixes. Passive aggressive responses about how long ago the order was placed. Completely forgot items we ordered. The lobster roll was a complete swing and miss, not even close to being on par with east coast or southern expectations. My wife's meal (steak frites) was cooked to mimic beef jerky. We came here expecting to enjoy a night away from our kids, have some cocktails and hoping to enjoy a nice meal. Instead I left thinking we could have had a better experience at Applebees. I wouldn't come back here if they offered a free retry. Better options out there. read more

We have enjoyed BirdDog in Mattawan so were both surprised and delighted to discover Lady Bird while visiting Fennville recently. If you can arrange to arrive between 3-5, there's an advantageous happy hour. We enjoyed oysters, a creative shrimp cocktail with gazpacho, lobster roll and smashburger. Ladybird was our first lunch stop and wow... what a way to kick things off. The vibe was spot on fun, relaxed, and just a great place to hang out. Our waitress was amazing and super friendly, which always makes a difference. But my chicken sandwich... listen... I'm convinced they gave me the whole chicken. It was massive but also SO good. Juicy, flavorful, and worth every bite. Paired with a yummy glass of wine? Perfect lunch. We will absolutely be back and next time we're coming hungry for dinner. read more

Had lunch there today and what a great discovery! We get so tired of the fried food/tavern fare and bar scene in these resort towns. This restaurant is one street back from the main street and is a hidden gem. Fresh food, interesting menu and drinks, great service, indoor and outdoor seating and very reasonable prices! Sometimes things don't go as planned. The staff at Lady Bird this morning was challenged by rain, two coffee machine failures, short staff, and the business of an opening weekend at the start of the summer season. Regardless, they rose to the occasion and ensured we had a delicious and graciously served brunch. I especially appreciated how the team clearly let potential diners know - as soon as they came in the door - that food would take around an hour to get to the tables of those choosing to stay. The integrity in setting realistic expectations for diners was refreshing and made me want to root for them (and not against them). We had brunch there today, our party of 8 were seating quickly at noon on a Sunday. Service was good, food came out timely and most importantly it was delicious. 3 of us ordered their standard breakfast -- 2 over-easy eggs, bacon, cheesy potatoes, green salad and sour dough toast. 2 ordered the Wagyu pastrami Benedict which they said was excellent. I took away one star because I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich to-go and my husband said there was too much sauce and it overpowered the sandwich. It was too sloppy to even hold. He didn't eat it and he hadn't eaten all day, so that's saying something. Maybe if the sandwich had been eaten at the restaurant it would have been ok, but then the cooks need to know to skimp on the sauce or better yet, put it on the side for take-out. read more

Just finished dinner at the ladybird restaurant with 11 of my friends I had the filet mignon one of the best I've ever had and we split the BLT salad, which was fabulous as well. Service was great. Ambience was great. It was nice to have outdoor seating and enjoy the wonderful summer evening .Matt, the owner of the restaurant , came up and was very accommodating and it was definitely worth the evening out. Yelp asks the question what could improve after giving this restaurant a one star rating. Well, where to begin... We were a large group of 9 adults. The reservation was made 24 hours ahead, so plenty of time to bring in additional servers to help with a busy Sunday night at the restaurant. Instead we had one very harried server who was waiting on several outdoor diners on the patio. Not really fair to that server and there was definitely some attitude shown. And the walk to the kitchen is far when any additional request was made...so the wait time was long or the item never received. This included our first round of cocktails and the wine that showed up at the end of the meal. The starters ordered were probably the best thing on the menu. Do not order a steak. Medium cooked request was served raw with an outside sear. The cake we brought in and offered to pay a service charge to slice, never happened...in fact, the front host when I went to give my credit card before the meal began (I wanted to pay for the table)...said to me...oh, you're the table with the cake...and he was very disgruntled when he said it. Considering that Saugatuck/Douglas has a limited amount of nicer restaurants to go to...all basically with the same uninspired menus...best to go to the Lake Vista SuperValu store and cook at home or your AirB&B. This place ranks as one of the worst experiences our group ever had. The nearly $800 bucks spent would've gone a whole lot farther at SuperValu & a whole lot better tasting without the attitude. Really enjoyed the food and the place is adorable, but the service left more to be desired. Generally it felt like our group was a bit of an afterthought and they didn't really care to have us there. We were not provided with drink menus and had to go to the bar to ask for them, then they forgot one of the drinks and had to go to the bar again to ask for it. We were never checked in on after delivering the food except to clear plates/pay, charged us for two of an appetizer when we only received one (but didn't noticed until after paying/getting the printed receipt as the tablet to pay on was already on the tip screen when it was given to us). Also, a heads up that the prices on their online menu are not updated and in person are about 15% more than what is listed. read more

Shocking how badly this place failed. We were here on a Tuesday before 4th of July, busy but not insane. We got there and were told our party of 8 had a table being cleared and we'd be seated immediately. After 15 minutes, we were finally seated.The waiter told us the kitchen was a bit behind and we should order quickly. We ordered the fried olives appetizer and our entrees, we then waited one hour and 20 minutes for it all to show up with our meals at the same time. We ordered 3 of the special kiwi lime mocktails. Waiter showed with 3 red drinks, said they subbed raspberry since they were out of kiwi and hoped it was ok. We didn't see him again until the food arrived. If I had to guess it looked like the restaurant just opened that week. It was so disorganized and they were way understaffed. The price points for the quality of the food was absurd. We had a steak and and horseradish with fingerling potatos that came with fries, was overcooked and tiny. The fries tasted like they sat a bit and the gravy tasted like a can of Heinz brown gravy and the white sauce had no horseradish. We had a nicoise salad that was somehow the saltiest thing I have ever eaten. When I asked where the potatoes were in the nicoise salad, the waiter went to get some and returned saying the kitchen was out of them. I guess that is why we also got fries subbed. Generally a good restaurant will advise and give the opportunity to change an order when they are out of what you ordered. Not here, they just sub away. We also had an order of ribs that were tough and way too salty. The food was all something you would expect at a 2 star bar when everything else was closed, but priced like they have a Michelin star. I have no clue how this place has such a high rating. Maybe it is the captive vacation crowd or paid reviews, but it's absurd. We were offered $5 off our $300+ tab when we complained. I'll start with the good: The cocktails were very tasty and it's an aesthetically pleasing setting. The brussel sprouts were also worth mentioning. Not so good: The menu didn't have accurate description of our food items. The salt and pepper shrimp appetizer don't say anything about being deep fried- the shrimp and the green beans are battered and fried. The beet salad didn't say anything about greens and it was 90% arugula and parsley (which my friend is allergic to) and there was only 1 tiny dollop of goat cheese and 1 small slice of grapefruit.. oh the deviled egg was awful too. $18 for a tiny sprinkle of caviar on an underwhelming deviled egg on a plate of cream. Really. F_ckin'. Good. We were PLEASANTLY surprised when we chose Lady Bird for our business lunch. Working in 12 restaurants, we notice (and yes, often nitpick) the little things. From the decor, to the menu, service, presentation, and (duh) the food, we wholeheartedly enjoyed our lunch. As a Saugatuck native, we're always happy to find a restaurant that chooses upscale and STAYS on brand. We ordered the crab cakes, tots, mac and cheese, and the chicken sandwich. All dishes tasted as good as they looked. Specifically, we'd like to compliment LB on the chicken's honey (maybe) rub that was just the right amount of sweet. Further, the tots were dynamite and even had little scattered bacon cubes in the dish. Again, great dining experience from entrance to exit. We look forward to our next Lady Bird outing! read more

I spend almost every weekend in the summer with family in Saugatuck and weekends in the off season. One of my favorite restaurants. The food is always great and I love the change up of the menu with each season. I have not had a bad dish here. Cocktails are also always delish. This is NOT a nearly 5 star restaurant. We came here for lunch on Tuesday, June 4. Please note, although the Yelp description prominently mentions breakfast and brunch, the restaurant does not open until 11 AM and has absolutely no breakfast items on its menu. We had the chicken sandwich, the lobster roll, soup, lunch salad, and tater tots. The tots were way too hot and spicy. The chicken sandwich was very disheveled looking. The lobster roll was listed on the menu as costing $32, which seemed high enough, but was $34 on the bill. And it was kinda meh. Service was OK. Decor is nice. My guess is the food might be better at dinner, but at $100 (including tip) for lunch for 4, they would have to do a lot lot better to earn the scores others have given. I will not hurry back, and a rating of 3 is about right. read more

We've been to both Bird Dog and Dog & The Bank. We know the quality of these restaurants and know what to expect when we go to either one of those places. I think we had high hopes for Lady Bird? I couldn't tell what was happening. It wasn't overly busy. Everyone wasn't running around like there weren't enough people on the floor to help out. The hostess was very nice. Our server was nice but disorganized/distracted? We ordered our appetizer of deep fried olives as soon as I sat down. We weren't totally ready to order so we figured she would give us a few minutes. Approximately 30 minutes later our olives arrived and THEN she took our order(!). I ordered the swordfish and my husband ordered the chicken and BLT salad. Another 45-50 minutes later...no food, no salad and our server was no where to be found? We finally had to get going and got up to pay for the olives and be on our way. The table behind us looked like they were ready to leave as well without getting their food. I would love to say they were simply packed to the gills with people, but it didn't seem like it. Not sure what could've been done to expedite the food? Maybe they were short handed in the kitchen? I'm not sure. We are happy to wait for excellent food but that just seemed much too long when it just didn't seem like it should take that long. The inside was half empty! Maybe it was an off day? Fantastic restaurant in Saugatuck! I literally can't stop thinking about the halibut with pea mash -- I'm debating whether I should call them for the recipe! The Mac and cheese was very good. The shaved Brussels salad was also very refreshing on a warm day. We sat inside in the dining room, but there was also a bright bar area and a few tables outside. I chalked it up to them being new and decided to give them a try a year later. Well apparently nothing has changed. We were seated and after 15 minutes of not a single person stopping by our table to take a drink order or even to say they would be by in a few minutes, we cut our losses and left.
