awful experience at their NYE party. purchased tickets for a disco themed party on NYE that was advertised on their website through Eventbrite. I purchased tickets and called the restaurant soon after as they started advertising a different DJ for the same night on their website. no one there including a manager knew anything about the NYE event. We showed up in disco outfits for the event to be told at the door we could just go in and our tickets wouldn't scan because they switched parties. I spoke with a manager who said they switched providers however no one (Eventbrite or Back Bay Social) contacted us the disco party had been cancelled. We were left with a handful of confused people dressed in disco outfits and an EDM DJ. Bartender was nice and did offer free shots to the groups that came for the disco party. Still a very disappointing experience with no communication, confused staff, out $200 in event tickets, and we left at 10 pm after feeling frustrated. read more

Stopped in for late night food & drinks - what a mistake! We ordered a couple of beers & wine & a few basic apps. Waitress took our order, brought drinks & then never came back. Later on we are told that she gave our table to someone else. That person comes flying by & we complain that our food has not come out yet and we had been waiting a very long time. She disappears, we never see her again & we get the food finally except for one person's pretzel bites. We tell the food runner & after a long time, we go back to the original waitress to get our check & the pretzel bites finally came out. They took the food off the bill & we paid & left - NEVER AGAIN. After arriving in Boston, we headed towards our hotel and stopped into this spot for a late lunch since we were starving! I shared the Monte Cristo with my son and the hubs shared their burger with my other kiddo. They did not stop talking about that burger throughout our trip and I must say, the Monte Cristo was quite delicious. The French toast huffed sandwich dipped in warm maple syrup was so satisfying. I stopped here during a short visit to Boston, and although our hosts had mentioned that they liked the food, I wasn't sure what to expect. One thing I immediately noticed was that on a Saturday morning, there was no wait for brunch! I also noticed how very friendly and pleasant the staff was, and that they had on masks and gloves. We got an outdoor seating space seconds after we arrived. The menu is pretty standard for brunch items, and all of your desires will most like be satisfied. I got the Taste of Summer sangria which came garnished with some fruits. It tasted very refreshing but also a little watered down. The mimosas on the other hand, came with a more generous pouring of champagne than orange juice! I ordered the breakfast sando, which was very well priced, and came with the unique fries. The fries pretty much came with almost all the brunch entree options, and had a softer middle but crunchy side, definitely something to try! I also tried the Lucky Cristo, which was consisted of equally delicious French toast, priced generously, and filling along with the side of fries it came along with. We had one of the worst experiences ever. The manager came over and said, "You need to take your wife out right now," even though she wasn't feeling well. She eventually felt better, but I've never experienced someone being so forceful in a situation like this. What if someone were seriously sick -- would you still force them out of the restaurant? The ambiance here was warm, cozy, and a little classy which gave an overall pleasant dining experience. The servers were also really nice and attentive. I had ordered the Mediterranean bowl which was super tasty and a healthy option for $16. Went here with about 7 people for a farewell dinner meeting. Food was very good-we shared the Brussel sprouts and the truffle fries. My tuna bowl was excellent-I loved the variety of veggies and crunch! Most of my guests had the chocolate cake and loved it, I had the crepe brûlée which was a little bland. I've been here many times, overall decent, but today was the worst experience. I ordered a cheeseburger pizza along with other items. The pizza was burnt on the bottom. I voiced this to our waiter and he offered us an item free of charge. We waited a while for our order to arrive, so logically, I politely declined. We were hangry and opted to attempt to eat it. The pizza itself was inconsistent. Some slices had only tomato and onions, some with the whole cheeseburger, some with heavy amount of tomatoes. I ended up eating just the top items with a fork since the burnt pizza dough was bitter. When we got the bill we were still charged for this item. I assumed they'd take it off but nope. My friends and I came here for brunch one Sunday morning. Even though we didn't make reservations for outdoor seating, they were able to accommodate us because it actually wasn't too busy (which personally was surprising to me for a Sunday but anyway)...Outdoor seating is minimal but a nice option. They had a few tables blocked off on the street which is where we were seated, and although it's not the nicest outdoor area, especially with all the loud cars whizzing by, the views of the prudential and just the vibes of the city were enjoyable. As for food I ordered the eggs Benedict which was good but personally nothing special. It typically comes with some kind of potatoes I think, but I was able to substitute it for tater tots. My friends ordered the bagels and lox, and the sesame seared tuna bowl. The tuna bowl actually looked and smelled delicious and my friend enjoyed it. If I ever came back for brunch I'd probably try that, or one of the sweet pancakes or French toast. Service was decent, although I had to keep asking for water and they forgot a few times. The drink I ordered was delicious: BBS spritz. Sweet, light, and I would recommend! Overall, I'm giving this place 3 stars because it was just pretty average. Nothing spectacular or anything to really rave about. Nobody likes remnants of what appeared to be Lo Mein bok choy equivalent vomit in the bathroom sink. Someone in our party used the restroom prior to eating their meal and saw "it" in the sink, also getting sick and not feeling good the entire meal. Cleanliness of restrooms is needed here. The drinks and the food were OK. Nothing to rave upon as it's a pretty basic menu - probably due to the color of the ambience lighting. Would consider changing the color of the lights in the basement section to a different color other than red/orange. I felt like a roast beef at an Old Country Buffet sitting out for hours with my party. This place has a basic menu, but plenty for everyone to find something, which I'll credit to this place. My friends and I came to Back Bay Social for brunch on a perfect sunny day in the city. We sat on the patio which was sunny and bright. The tables were the appropriate social distance. We ordered the rosemary's Bebe cocktail which was delicious. So refreshing, sweet, and came in a good portion. Overall the food was really good but nothing incredible. Arrived at 11pm on a Friday night to celebrate my friends birthday. Waited about 5 minutes for a server to then mention we can seat ourselves. She never mentioned this was 21+. We were planning on ordering only food and NO drinks when the manager came to our table to ask us for our ids. We mentioned we were not drinking and therefore did not show any form of ID. He then got agressive and asked us to leave. I tried to reason with him saying not a single worker of his management mentioned it was 21+ and that we were only hoping to get food. He became very rude and told us to leave immediately despite the fact we were respectable paying customers. It's a shame as the restaurant looked nice with a decent late night menu. If you are so adamant about the establishment being 21+ then you should 100% mention that at the doors and check IDS. By no means was I expecting special treatment or the restaurant to go against their policies but I do expect proper decency from the rude manager. Definitely will not be returning. The manager of the night on 3/22 handled the situation incredibly poorly and unprofessionally. read more

I would normally never leave a negative review on a restaurant - I work in the industry myself and I know personally it can be highly stressful. I always prefer to give the benefit of the doubt. But it's hard to do that with an interaction like this. I've been coming to BBS for about two years. I used to work at a restaurant nearby and would come in a few times a week. It's been a few months since I've been in so I was excited to go for my birthday last night! I came in and a new manager I'd never seen before asked for our IDs, took them and said he wanted to see them in a better light. Sure! Didn't think anything of it. But then he came back LIVID, giving us SUCH an attitude, telling us to get out of his bar with these fake IDs and don't come back. Our IDs are not fake. My friends are 23, I turned 24 yesterday and was at that bar for my birthday drinks. Those are all very real, very valid, government issued IDs. I told him that, and he said "there are multiple issues with each ID and we're lucky he gives them back at all." Once again, no, there are not issues with any of the IDs. We are not "lucky" you are giving back our government issued IDs. I told him I'd been coming here for years, he asked how many, I said 2, he said "no you haven't. Get out." He was unwilling to explain what was "wrong" with the IDs. Not was he only incredibly incorrect, but he was incredibly rude about it too. I can't figure out what was going on in his head - is he actually just that bad at his job and doesn't know what a real ID looks like? Is he on a power trip and just wanted to be rude to somebody? Did we offend him in some minuscule way and he was looking for revenge? Our interactions with him up until that point had been very pleasant. And then he switched on a dime. I won't be coming back, which is a shame because the bartenders are incredible, really friendly and sociable and keep up in an often overwhelmingly busy bar. If it weren't for the terrible management I'd recommend this place highly. read more

Not a fan of this place. I ordered the BLT grilled cheese, which was neither a BLT nor a grilled cheese? It didn't seem to have cheese on it, and the bacon was weirdly thick and had no flavor. Plus, the lettuce on it was shredded and the whole thing was so greasy. I couldn't eat more than a couple bites because it was grossing me out, so I added a cup of clam chowder, which was just ok. Wouldn't recommend it. And they forgot to give me the oyster crackers that came with it. I asked three different times for water (from the waitress and from the guy delivering food to tables) and had to wait until the very end of the meal to get it. Our waitress was REALLY busy so I don't really blame her, but it was not ideal. Ambiance was fine, very pubby. If you found something good on the menu and got tipsy enough not to care about waiting around, you would probably have fun. But I'm guessing there are a lot of delicious places to eat in Boston, so I would absolutely pass on this place. read more

So i definitely recommend this place if you're near the library, too. Spent about $20 for a burger, fries, and a beer. I ordered their flagship burger, which came with a small side of hot, crazy-crisp fries. The flagship burger has aged vermont cheddar, smoked bacon, caramelized onions, horseradish aioli on a brioche bun. The bacon was LEGIT. So crispy and delicious. I asked for a rare burger and i got a medium-rare burger, but that's pretty standard. Overall, a solid spot, with tasty food in a casual, chill environment. Went for a late lunch and was quite disappointed. We ordered drinks and were served two of three drinks. The third was wrong and so we kindly asked for the right drink which then never came. We got our entrees and had most of the meal before someone came over and said they were waiting for a wine glass. It was not busy at all so interesting that they didn't have any wine glasses.
