Elegant tables with creative art inside the cozy space to the glorious warm days on the porches, this place always makes me smile. A recent visit to say "good evening" before their winter hiatus, we chose the comforts of what I think of as the winter dishes. The sweetbreads, always magic and the sauce is impeccable served as the top starter. The duck, crispy skin, tender and flavorful meat with perfect bok choy and coconut sauced rice is just sublime. The veal, gorgeous and paired with mushrooms and grits of a higher order. Do save room for the dessert, this time the chocolate torte. First off I have to say is that the host or manager read the notes I made when I made the reservation for Mom's 94th birthday. The host, staff, serves could not be more accommodating..They were perfect all around to even lowering the fan and a/c for Mom. I have to tell you that the server and The Food delivered; it was one of my best meals in a long time. Started without a cocktail, sidecar, ummmy...Then switched over to a bottle of Clos du Val. As for the food, I started with the spinach, lobster and shrimp gratin, very good and my entree was the rack of lamb medium rare cooked to perfection. I then chose a chocolate martini to go along with my chocolate dessert which was also very good. Others had a beet salad, mesclun salad and a chilled soup (cucumber dill)...All were happy. Reservation was easy to make and was confirmed. Food was good and varied and well presented. Service could be a little more engaging and perhaps better trained. "The boarding house" style of passing the food at the table does match the $45 per plate charge. read more

Wow...resting on reputation.... Came for my birthday and had been studying the menu and was very excited...I had been to the back porch several years ago and it was fantastic...I think this was in the top 5 WORST meals I had ever had... Started with the Gorgonzola flan which was...grey. Ok - I get it - Gorgonzola is blue...but wow...it also tasted grey. I LOVE blue cheese - but this had the flavor and consistency of a rancid wet omelet. Next came the lobster "wedge". The dressing was so flavorless that I wound up isolating all of the lobster in the hope of getting some flavor but bite after bite of my favorite crustacean yielded the flavor of air. The blueberries were the best part and I hate blueberries. For the main I ordered scallops - which again I was looking for some...any...flavor. It had a miso glaze which is inherently sweet (I cook with miso frequently) but this tasted like fish candy - not pleasant. The accompanying risotto, again, was absolutely devoid of flavor. I left the majority of all 3 courses untouched, and was never questioned by my waiter as to whether everything was ok - dishes were simply cleared and asked if I wanted a to go container. My husband ordered the filet medium rare which was cooked to an imperfect medium well. He stated his tuna appetizer "ok I guess" and his dill soup "Ok"- Left without dessert - on my birthday. The Back Porch is such a Rehoboth classic and we go back several times a year for dinner and brunch. Both are among the best in town and should be tried before they close for the Winter. Our last meal was dinner and I started with my favorite Tuna Blini. It is one of those dishes I just can't skip there, even though I want to sample the menu more. It always delivers and is a blini covered with thinly sliced house-cured tuna, then finished with creme fraiche and a fresh salsa. It is one of my favorite dishes in the area, even though the salsa may sound out of place. Trust me, it isn't. My husband also loved his octopus appetizer. Always order a bottle of wine at the Back Porch. The cocktails are excellent, but the wine list has amazing finds without being too long to understand. The biggest surprise is the relatively low markup. This is a place to try a special bottle for a fair price, but there are wines for every budget. The owner, Dimitri, is always available to talk about wines on the list. We usually end up with two bottles and are never disappointed. We had classics for our entrees too. I love their Rabbit Bolognese, and it is the only place I eat rabbit. Trust me. It's wonderful. My husband had another favorite, the rack of lamb. I also love their filet with potatoes gratin and the scallops, so it is never easy to choose. There are other things that make the Back Porch magical and keep us coming back. The decor is historic, and this building has bones that tell a story. The wood bar has a loft above where old hotel employees used to sleep. Look at the pictures on the walls to get a glimpse of the history. It is down an alley on the ocean block and makes you feel like you are entering a special place that is a departure from the T-shirt stores, fries, and ice cream on the Avenue. You are! Even if you sit inside, take a minute to step out on the patio It is a hidden two-story courtyard and one of the most special spots in town. We sit outside when the weather permits, and it always feels like a special date. The Back Porch has been around for many decades for a reason. It is a must dine restaurant. It closes seasonally in October/November until April/May, so get in while you can. read more

We happened upon this place walking around and are so glad we did! It is reminiscent of a courtyard restaurant in New Orleans, tucked away down an alley, which is what attracted us to it. We sat outside and drank in the ambiance as we waited for our excellent server Alina to bring our drinks and appetizers. We had no idea when we walked in that the food would be the star of the show. (And we highly recommend the pear martini and margarita.) We started with Gorgonzola flan and a beet salad (no pics, sorry). The flan was light, creamy, and savory and was in a well-seasoned bed of spinach. The beet salad had apples, beets, arugula, and goat cheese. Main courses were delightful. I had halibut with sweet potato purée and corn chowder, and my friend had the rabbit. Both were well prepared and the flavors went together perfectly. Dessert was a limoncello cake - lemony delicious! It was hard to choose between the desserts on the menu but this one was a winner. Made reservations which turned out harder than expected. Not that they were busy, just the process was not easy. No link on their website. We were met by the host which had the charisma of a former FSB agent. Once seated in the courtyard the ambiance was nice enough. The food unfortunately was not so nice. For an appetizer we had the cauliflower, it came in large clumps with globs of brown hummus, this was not a plate to be photographed! The taste of better than the appearance. Next up was the entree which was the soft shell crabs on a bed of noodles. The crabs were okay, unfortunately on a bed of warm/cold noodles. Needless to say no dessert. The final bill with drinks was over 150 dollars. Certainly gave me a rumbly tummy and an empty wallet. Won't be back. read more

Not sure why its classed as Mediterranean, I'd say more European. Best restaurant in Rehoboth had a beautiful lunch outdoors today. Food, service, wine impeccable. I love that they know who we are. Shared the food gras, just amazing, then potato leek soup and turkey ceiling, both dee lish. But omg. The Belgian chocolate cheesecake was amazing (we shared this as well). And a great bottle of rose. Price was about the same as mediocre sandwiches elsewhere. But worth a splice if you don't want to share. read more

What a great restaurant in Rehoboth. Meal was amazing, started with the burrata salad (caprese salad on the menu) it was wonderful. Not a true caprese with the 2 small cherry tomatoes so I would wary for those ordering and expecting large tomatoes. But the burrata, arugula and dressing were great. Also shared the octopus which was cooked perfect and a bit spicy for those that don't like spice. I had the filet which was fantastic. No real complaints. Enjoyed the entire meal! read more

It's been years since I found myself in Rehoboth beach de and able to enjoy a night out for dinner. The Back Porch was always a great staple . I sat at the bar with people visiting from DC . & the bartender was a little confused most of the night . The food was ok at best . Funny that three people ordered the same appetizer and we all had the same conclusion ( crab ravioli ) it was bland and forgettable. . The pork dish was huge and Visually unappealing yet tasty. The key lime house was made in house and was very good but dusted with coco powder ( not sure why ). They also offered untraditional Crème brûlée sticking all kinds of stuff not needed in a perfect dish . Overall the place needs a refresh and a rethink of the menu summer dishes . I felt bad for people sitting in the lovely courtyard sitting on $10 plastic chairs when paying almost $100 a person if you had two drinks and three courses . Nice evening, good food selection, well prepared and served. Interesting tuna appetizer, dark fish, more firm than I'm used to, but excellent. Delicious tiered potato served with perfect steak. We four sat on the inside patio on a round table a little too big for four, six would have been comfortable, and conversation needed extra effort. Top rated and expensive but good for special occasions. Our server was good but busy and we had to call on other staff for some of our needs. I'm certain we also left some wine as she neglected to keep us topped up and I didn't see the wine cooler until we exited. Oh well. Flaming Coffee was enjoyed by two in our party, prepared table side. My regular coffee was annoyingly cool and needed replacement. So easily avoided. From Flaming to cool! I have wanted to have dinner here for many years, and despite having worked in Rehoboth years ago I never made it to eat there. My husband and I had an early reservation last weekend, and it was worth the wait. I emailed Dmitry who took my reservation. Originally I had requested the patio but it was very hot and we sat inside. There were only two other tables filled with diners near to ours. Sheri was our server and she was fantastic. Paced the meal just right, attentive but also read that we were content to enjoy one anothers' company and didn't require much. I started with Chef Leo's chilled cucumber dill soup. It was delicious and I ate every bite. It wasn't too heavy and the temperature made it perfect for a summer soup. I got the Boston wedge next: a delightful mix of boston bibb lettuce, blueberries, almonds, lobster meat, and a savory dressing to tie in all the flavors and textures. I was almost full after that, despite wanting to save room for my entree and dessert. I got the pan seared Halibut, served over a tomato corn salad with arugula, blueberries (must be in season?). The fish was cooked perfectly, and I could only enjoy half at this point. My husband ordered the beef medallions and it was one of the better meals he has had in a long time. It was served with gorgonzola flan and asparagus. I really wanted a sweet treat to finish the meal but felt uncomfortably full. My husband got a few martinis (I'm pregnant so had one small glass of sparkling rose). Total was $ 220 including a $ 50 cash tip. I look forward to another kid free dinner next time we're in Rehoboth. read more

LOVE THIS PLACE!! We happened to stumble upon this place while walking around and it's fantastic! Such a great cozy nook tucked away! The servers were very friendly and attentive. I can't praise them enough. They have some great cocktails on the menu and a nice selection of wines. The menu has a nice selection... we were able to find something delicious both times we stopped by. But, my favorite part was dessert-- holy cow so delicious! My husband and I have been going to Dewey beach every year now because after 5:30pm, the beach is pet friendly. This trip had been planned awhile ago and we still decided to go as we were in need of a get-away! We stayed 1 night in an Airbnb in Milton before staying In a hotel in Dewey on Friday-Sunday. The owner of the Airbnb was born and raised in Delaware and her favorite restaurant is Back Porch! She gave it such rave reviews and even said that because of Covid, the previous owners were having some difficulty, so they sold it to the staff and now it's staff owned & that's how good it is! If staff believe in the product. (I did not fact check this:). We went for dinner, and this was the first dinner out we have had since the pandemic... I'm so glad that we were seated on the second floor, outdoor, just like a back porch, on the furthest end! They practiced social distancing and protocols were in place. I ordered the lamb and my husband ordered the rabbit... delicious! I almost forgot the tuna app was so good!! The server was very nice, the food was sumptuous and good portion, and ambience was perfect. Great recommendation! I will be back to try the duck! read more

Came here for brunch and wow it was delicious! Very cute spot for brunch with unique seating options. Really close to the beach so a great spot to go before a beach day! Wait staff was really really nice and super accommodating, we were treated like regulars even though it was our first time there! Prices lean towards the high end for brunch but the portions are HUGE, the food is super fresh, and the menu itself is really unique and fun. We loved our food at this restaurant so much. I had the halibut cheeks, along with my sister in law, and they were delicious. My parents both had the beef tenderloin and they are extremely picky eaters and cleaned their plate. My brother had a mix of apps that he enjoyed. We had a toddler with us and while there was no kids menu we were allowed to go elsewhere (DQ) and pick up some food for her and being in the restaurant for her to eat. read more

Right on the Main Street, Rehoboth Ave., so may be why the cons below are related to price. It is what it is. Cons: The caprese salad that was maybe $14 was beautiful but sorely lacking, of all things, tomatoes. There were four grape tomatoes, you know, the little guys, sliced in half with thankfully, a big ball of delicious mozzarella cheese. There was a healthy service of sliced fava beans and greens but four grape tomatoes a caprese salad does not make, friends. Alas, also $4 for a small glass of orange juice that comes out of a container is well, not worth it. Oh, and yes, I watched the pour so it wasn't my tastebuds. Loved this place but a overall, a bit disappointed in the recent visit, especially when there are wonderful fresh food and healthy portions within a short walking distance. read more

My boyfriend and I ate here last night for the first time and we could not have been more impressed. We have eaten at many of the restaurants in Rehoboth and this is our new favorite hands downs. From the service, the bread, the amazing halibut and veal tenderloin and bread pudding dessert it was spot on. Everyone was so accommodating from the bartender, the waiter and the bus service. I recently went to dine here, has had a good reputation and close to where we were stay, within walking distance. The issue I had with the Back Pour h was I asked the waiter for the kitchen to not put a yogurt sauce that goes with the lamb chops entree, as I'm allergic to dairy. The waiter, Henry proceeded to tell me there are NO SUBSTITUTION as he stated on the menu. I asked to see a Manager. He came back saying the kitchen could accommodate my request, also mentioned there are a lot of different languages spoken in the kitchen that causes a problem. The food was very mediocre, the bread on the table is like Wonder Bread, the Pate was more like a unseasoned Meatloaf. I will not be returning here to spend my hard earned money, they seem to be running off their old reputation. Much better place to eat in Rehoboth Beach! read more
