During our recent long weekend in Santa Fe, the 4 of us decided to order Pizza and sit on the Patio and talk. I was in charge of fining a good Pizza place and settled on Back Road. That recommendation included a bunch of "Best of Santa Fe" awards, so why not? We ordered 3 small pizzas (Cheese for Laurie, Christmas in May for me and Gayle, and some sort of meat combo for Bob) and a Caesar Salad for the Table. I road with Bob to get our order, and it gave us a chance to catch up on family and friend news. Bob and I went to High School together back in Iowa, and our friendship goes back maybe 60 years. So we had a lot to comfortably talk about. Anyway, our choices were good ones, the conversation by the fire pit was fun and deep, and a great couple hours was had by all. I moved to Florida (where the pizza really sucks) and i constantly find myself dreaming of BackRoads pizza... i've been coming here since it was on the outskirts of town during my college days and they would have live music back then. We were in town and this popped up as a good pizza place to try while in Santa Fe. It's set up as an order at the counter, bring it to your table style place. The service was pretty fast and very friendly. The inside had some tables and booths, and they had cute outside seating that looked like it would be a really nice spot to hang out when the weather is nice. While the larger pizza creations sounded really good, we decided to each go with a cheese slice and you can add toppings to it. It was great! The crust was thin but still had a good bite, and the slice was large enough to be finished after just 1. I added pepperoni, mushroom, onion, olives, and garlic to mine and it came out amazing. If ever back in the area, we will definitely be trying their signature creations! read more

15/10 for me! We were driving through and when I tell you we smashed this entire order and slept like babies after. We had the pep- awesome. The Santa Fe- PERFECTION. The pesto rolls we got had me wanting to curl up inside the container they came in and die a happy and content pizza death. Polished it off with a homemade cookie that was plenty to share (even though I absolutely did not share it) and loved it. Pizza was average, except for the price tag. $30 bucks for a large Hawaiian pizza and tip! The staff were nice, at least.

Placed an order online: a small, gluten-free pie, no feta, chicken. $30. We asked the order-taker to repeat the order back to us!!! Wait time? 90 minutes. Yes, 90! Upon collecting our prized pizza, we received one large GF cracker with red sauce, a few bits of FETA (we were told it was a double order, despite requesting NO Feta, and a couple of pieces of chicken. Uh, NO! We refused the pizza (cracker). "We can make you a new one," or refund you." Comedy. Ironically, not a shred of embarrassment or shame for charging us $30 for a small pizza (cracker) that looked like a hors d'oeuvre for a mouse. Even more amusing: we know the owner through family connections. Alas, no compunction whatsoever about calling out Back Road Pizza. And so... we went to the CoOp, purchased two GF pies, random toppings, and a few GF beers for under $30, and called it a night. I certainly cannot recommend BackRoad Pizza in Santa Fe, NM. read more

I'm a hopeless pizza addict, and an ardant fan of excellent pies.  Doing my research before coming to the 505, I read that Back Road Pizza was voted Santa Fe's #1 Pizza restaurant for 9 years running (2012-2020), so I resolved to check this place out sooner, rather than later. My friend and I came for dinner one weekday evening and started off with a couple of small Caesar salads.  These were crisp, fresh, and delicious, with dressing that was obviously homemade - a good start :-) Then it was time for the main event - pizzas! Reviewing the menu, I saw that they offer a wide assortment of toppings for those who want to build their own pie or add extras to one of their pre-configured pizzas.  I've found that when trying a new pizza restaurant, the best experiences are usually had by ordering a pre-configured pie; I consulted with my Partner in Crime, and we decided to share two pizzas: - Norm (pepperoni, house made sausage, mushrooms, and black olives) - New Mexican (pepperoni, green chile, and red onions) We also ordered a pitcher of beer to share, and waiting for our pies to arrive.  When they came, they looked wonderful, and smelled even better - we dug in and found that there were excellent!  The tomato sauce is zesty and nicely balanced, with just the right kick to it; the toppings are obviously fresh, top-quality, and generous applied.  That said, the star of this particular show is unquestionably the dough. Here's a quote from their web site to explain why the dough is so good: "We make a thin crust pizza with a Santa Fe twist: a perfect flour crust rolled in cornmeal for a unique flavor and texture". I am shocked they are the "best" for several years in a row... That tells me there's absolutely no good pizza in Santa Fe. The pizza was not fully cooked and since we just picked up a takeout order, there was no "sending it back". Beet salad was very good - fresh greens a positive. So much hoopla...so true! Grabbing a quick bite in Santa Fe for carrying out was a tough call, but friends and family all said Back Road Pizza was one to try. They were right on in saying it was one of the better pizza joints in town. We ordered a 1/2 & 1/2 Special which was half Veggie and the other half a carnivore's wet dream, Norms! The slightly charred, pizza crust was thin, crisp, and dusted with cornmeal---foldable like New York thin style. Toppings on the meaty side included good quality sausage, pepperoni, etc. The cheese and sauce, with perfect herbs and spices, accompanied the toppings on both halves, perfectly. We also ordered a salad with both Dill Vinaigrette and a Balsamic Vinaigrette on the side, too. Everything tasted excellent and the staff was fully masked up at the pick up window. A slight glitch on the salad was quickly remedied---nothing too big. So if you want a good, high quality pizza pie in Santa Fe, give your money to Back Road Pizza---they'll give you a culinary delight in exchange! read more

Guy Fieri has done us right this time. Got the lunch special it's something like $8-9 for a big slice w 1 topping, drink, and side salad. it was 3:15 when u came in but they were really nice and let me get the special anyways since they still had a couple slices left:) Had a cute outdoor area outback with a few plants and fun inside with quarter tattoo machines. good vibes. fast and friendly service. Ordered 2 lunch specials (me and mom). 1 slice with pepperoni and a house salad and 1 slice with tomato and a beet feta salad. Amazing pizza and we're no where near the east coast lol. Tried Back Road Pizza 's new Detroit style pizza. I've never had Detroit style so have no idea if it is authentic. But, it was delicious. The sauce was pungent and rich, the dough was greasy (as it should be for this) and had a great crumb, and the cheese was flavorful and crisped nicely along the edges. I added pepperoni, which I couldn't taste so it was a total waste. I am glad I tried it, would eat it again if a friend wanted to try it, but probably wouldn't order it over a more typical pizza. I'd recommend everyone try it at least once to see if it is for you! read more

My favorite pizza in all of New Mexico. I have been eating at Back Road Pizza for years. This place has been featured on Diner, Drive-Ins, and Dives. The parking is limited at times. The space itself is pretty large and great for a date or a family outing. They have an old PAC Man and Galaga arcade game, that I have to play every time I stop by. There is also a pool hall upstairs, which can make for a fun night after you finish eating your food. The staff has always been friendly every time I have eaten there. I highly recommend everything on their menu. read more

Decent pizza, especially if you're looking for something late and to-go like we were. We went here late for dinner 2 different nights when we had been out hiking. The first time was just to try it, the second time was because we liked it and knew it was open. We got the Christmas in May and the Green Chile Chicken. Nope. I'm done. I used to love this pizza, and ordered from here ALL THE TIME. But for the last year or 2.. the pizza has become dry, and a bit bland. The last few orders were very disappointing... so i tried one last time today. I ordered the Norm, and I ordered at 3pm in the afternoon when I knew they would not be busy. I SPECIFICALLY ordered the Norm with DOUBLE sauce, and DOUBLE cheese with hopes it would be like the pizza I got here a few years back. What was delivered, was probably the worst pizza I ever got from this place. Double sauce? I didn't see ANY sauce. Double sauce and cheese was ordered (and paid for) and I didn't see any. What's happened to this place? Perhaps ego has got in the way. Well... not for me. I will not return to this place. Perhaps they read my order wrong... but if so, that's on them. And almost 30.00 for a cracker crust, no sauce, no cheese pizza.... no thanks. What a disappointment. Esquina... Mamacitas... or even DOMINOS delivers a much better pizza.
