The beet salad was also delicious, and major appreciation to the kitchen for thoughtfully splitting it into four equal plates for sharing. Small touch, big hospitality points. The lemon ricotta pancake was the one slight miss for me. The powdered sugar ended up being the main character, overpowering some of the balance and richness I was hoping for. The fish tacos, however, completely redeemed things. Flavorful, fresh, and made even better by our incredibly thoughtful waitress, who had the kitchen prepare four tacos for sharing instead of the usual three. Really really wish Mom & Dad were still alive so I could bring them here for a phenomenal meal! Not only is everything really good, but I'd get a kick out of them seeing how much I love the brussels sprouts. We've been wanting to visit Backdoor Bistro for quite some time, and decided that our 26th Wedding Anniversary would be a nice occasion. We couldn't have been more pleased. We had set a 5pm reservation but arrived early and were promptly seated. The restaurant has a charming feel, and while not large, it still feels roomy. There's also wonderful seating outside that looks directly into the square. While the dinner menu wasn't available till 5 pm, their All Day menu and Happy Hour specials were. Our server, Dominique, was happy to offer suggestions while we waited till 5pm. Before I go any further, I just want to say, Dominique is an absolute doll. She was so nice to my Wife and I, and really enhanced our whole experience. Dominique provided exceptional service, and we both want to say thank-you again. We decided to try the fried polenta and paired it some Turkovich Sparkling wine. Absolutely wonderful. Such a great start. Polenta was firm and creamy, and bubbles are always nice. When it time for the dinner menu we still had some Turko left, so we decided to get some raw oysters as well. They came out chilled to perfection and soy mignonette sauce was magnificent. For our entries, we both decided upon the Lamb Bolognese since we brought a bottle of Cab Sav with us. Only $20 corkage fee which I think is perfect. I did look at their wine menu, and there are plenty of fine selections. We just something specific from home for the occasion. The Lamb Bolognese was creamy and delicious. Kudos to the chefs on this one. Definitely coming back for it again. We finished up with a little cappuccino and expresso. Dominique was nice enough to bring us a little brulee for our anniversary, and it was perfect. Backdoor Bistro is probably the closest Vacaville has to fine dining! There aren't many places that emphasize farm to fork freshness or have such an extensive wine menu. November 30th and they were already decorated for the holidays. The interior is a little smaller than expected. There is some outdoor seating as well. We came here for breakfast. I ordered the chilaquiles verdes with duck carnitas and my partner order the lemon ricotta pancakes and a peppermint mocha. Check out their seasonal drinks! The peppermint mocha was a hit. It was consumed very quickly. The lemon ricotta pancakes came with a small metal pitcher of real maple syrup. The taste was light and delicious! Personally he would have liked the option to add seasonal berries, whipped cream, or a pat of butter. But they were still wonderful as is! I really enjoyed the chilaquiles! The green sauce had a bit of a kick but it wasn't overwhelming. The portion size was filling without leftovers. Personally I really like duck. I think this is one of the few places that consistently has duck on the menu. The duck was moist and flavorful. I was told by an acquaintance this place has really good oysters! The Highs: The Polenta fries were good. Really enjoyed the sauce. They come as a set of 4 big fries. The service was pretty good. They kept the water cups full and were attentive even though it was busy. The Lows: We both ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes. They were way thinner than I like my pancakes to be. They were ok. Not my fav. We also ordered the Mac and cheese. It was a little soupy with shells versus elbow macaroni. Also not bad but not my fave. The In-Between: We decided to come here for brunch. I did reservations online about an hour in advance and we were seated right away. It was bussling inside so we asked to sit outside on the patio. The tables were a little rusted and wobbly but no biggie. They ran out of brunch menus at first but we were able to look it up on our phone. Our server was Sam. She was cool. The food came out fast enough.... Maybe 20 minutes after we ordered. Overall the experience was ok. If we were to return, I'd definitely try other things. read more

Had a small piece of chicken in a large room temp bun, could've been amazing with a buttered and toasted bun and a bit bigger piece of chicken. Enjoyed the ice tea. Staff were friendly. There were a lot of people enjoying their afternoon and ambiance as intimate and lively. They brought me a nice birthday dessert, which was a pleasant treat. What i ordered: Polenta Fries (4/5): These weren't bad. Super crispy and great seasoning, but i don't think i'm a huge fan of Polenta. However, my bestfriend enjoyed every bit of it and highly recommends. I do think i would've enjoyed it more if it wasn't so thick. Entree (4/5)- My mistake for not taking a picture of the menu and this item isn't currently on the menu anymore. The fish was cooked and seasoned pretty well and it was on top of a lemon risotto. Super bomb brunch spot. It's definitely a bit smaller inside so highly recommend reservations if you're going at peak times. Everyone was friendly and they were even nice enough to push back our res when our friends were running late. Parking was a piece of cake since they share the lot with the library. The focaccia is a must order, the fried polenta was great and the chilaquiles were on point and stayed crunchy the whole meal (the chips never hold up at most places) which definitely got bonus points from me. We wanted a quick bite, so we ordered off of their "all day" menu which had good prices. My kids thought the burgers and homemade chips were great. I liked my fried chicken sandwich. I also had the gaspacho, which was a good combination of fruity from the melon with the acidity of the tomato. I'm glad we chose this restaurant. We would come back again. I have been here for dinner several times and the food has been good but overpriced. Today i went there for brunch with my family of 5 and spent over $200. My beef shank hash for $24 had 2 bites of meat and the rest was red sliced potatoes and 1 poached egg. The salmon with quinoa was so small and left my husband hungry. The bloody mary drink was thick and spicy like it had horseradish in it. I exchanged it for a black coffee but it was acidic. The waitress hardly checked on us. I was expecting it to be a bit bigger. The chicken was crispy on the outside, but the chicken itself was a bit dry. It wasn't my favorite salad I've had. My boyfriend's burger was really good though! As an update.... We've continued to come here regularly. This is by far the best Vacaville has to offer in the way of "quality" "gourmet" food. Yeah, we've always had our complaints.....kinda noisy (as before) and, while the food is great, the menu seldom changes so, if one comes here often, it can be a bit too much "same as last time." That said, we went there tonight and, indeed, the menu has changed and the new additions (roast chicken and trout, in particular) are great! Now, if they could just make these kinds of changes more often..... Service is wonderful - all of the workers are great (okay, Sam is our favorite, but you can't lose with anyone)! Interior is composed of heavy wood tables and chairs, and restaurant is high ceilinged although it will get noisy since there's nothing to soften the noise. We had some interesting food - Fried Polenta, Lamb Sliders, and an Asian Chopped Salad with their signature Fried Chicken (had better chicken). Also had a Champagne Pomegranate Mimosa for brunch. Dessert was exceptional with the Salted Butterscotch Pot de Creme (Definitely Get This) and a Peach Crumble with Vanilla Ice Cream. My wife and I have resided in Vacaville for over 25 years. We have searched high and Low for a dining restaurant with both quality with reference to the food served and service from the support staff. We found what we are looking for at the "Backdoor Bistro". The quality of the food we ordered was top notch. The service was wonderful and very friendly. The restaurant was a third to one half to capacity, which didn't appear to stress the staff at all. I ordered the "Stemple Beef Burger on a brooch bun, cooked medium. Cooked to perfection. My wife ordered the Steak and Farro Salad! Prepared to perfection. The shrimp fried rice was excellent as well. The price was affordable and not too expressive as compared to the quality. We are definitely very finicky with reference to how food is prepared, so we stayed on the fence until the meal was finished in totality. We really and truly appreciate the owner, chef and waitress who paid attention to our needs as customers. I definitely will dine regularly at the Backdoor Bistro Wine Bar! read more

I tried it out with my wife last night both are first time. Been hearing the hype for years now! Not what I was expecting kinda small portions for how hungry I was. Food is more on the fine dining style with smaller portions. good but I was still hungry I probably won't make it a regular thing only if my wife wants to go! I didn't care for the yellow squash I think it's just the pickling of it or the vinegar that they had used with it again over all the food was good just a little out of my taste element. I'd heard good things about Backdoor Bistro and was excited to try it out. The ambiance is nice with a patio outdoors and indoor dining area. It's rustic and charming. Service is a little slow in the beginning, but became more attentive as we dined. The food leaves a bit to be desired. We ordered a few items: - baked brie: the baked Brie came in a ramekin so the oil sat in the dish and had a sweet jalapeño jelly that also sat on top of the cheese rind. Wasn't as melty as I hoped - burger - I didn't try this but the chips that came with it were good. - beet salad - good if you are a fan of feta. There were not many pieces of beets (maybe 4 chunks) in the salad - brussels sprouts - standard - focaccia with burrata - this was a massive disappointment. The focaccia is basically Texas toast bread with olives. We were excited for the burrata and this was the biggest let down. It was a bowl of olive oil with a smidge of burrata and garlic clove. The garlic was in fact more than the burrata amount. - sangria - best thing there. This wasn't part of the wrong brunch menu but drinks can be ordered from any menu regardless of time. Perhaps this was a go to spot in the past, but unfortunately I would not be able to recommend unless you're coming for a sangria on the patio. read more

Went in on a Sunday morning at 11 with my husband and son. There were 5 tables in use and probably 10-15 completely open. They said because we didn't have a reservation they only had outside tables available and we could sit outside with heaters and blankets. It's 56 degrees outside!!!!! There were at least 7 or 8 people standing around, there was plenty of staff. I could understand if there was a large party and there were large tables pushed together but there were not.
