We've been wanting to visit Backdoor Bistro for quite some time, and decided that our 26th Wedding Anniversary would be a nice occasion. We couldn't have been more pleased. We had set a 5pm reservation but arrived early and were promptly seated. The restaurant has a charming feel, and while not large, it still feels roomy. There's also wonderful seating outside that looks directly into the square. While the dinner menu wasn't available till 5 pm, their All Day menu and Happy Hour specials were. Our server, Dominique, was happy to offer suggestions while we waited till 5pm. Before I go any further, I just want to say, Dominique is an absolute doll. She was so nice to my Wife and I, and really enhanced our whole experience. Dominique provided exceptional service, and we both want to say thank-you again. We decided to try the fried polenta and paired it some Turkovich Sparkling wine. Absolutely wonderful. Such a great start. Polenta was firm and creamy, and bubbles are always nice. When it time for the dinner menu we still had some Turko left, so we decided to get some raw oysters as well. They came out chilled to perfection and soy mignonette sauce was magnificent. For our entries, we both decided upon the Lamb Bolognese since we brought a bottle of Cab Sav with us. Only $20 corkage fee which I think is perfect. I did look at their wine menu, and there are plenty of fine selections. We just something specific from home for the occasion. The Lamb Bolognese was creamy and delicious. Kudos to the chefs on this one. Definitely coming back for it again. We finished up with a little cappuccino and expresso. Dominique was nice enough to bring us a little brulee for our anniversary, and it was perfect. Thanks to the whole staff for a wonderful, and fun evening. 26 anniversaries and this will probably be one that we remember well. We both look forward to visiting again.

    Chilaquiles Verde

Backdoor Bistro is probably the closest Vacaville has to fine dining! There aren't many places that emphasize farm to fork freshness or have such an extensive wine menu. November 30th and they were already decorated for the holidays. The interior is a little smaller than expected. There is some outdoor seating as well. We came here for breakfast. I ordered the chilaquiles verdes with duck carnitas and my partner order the lemon ricotta pancakes and a peppermint mocha. Check out their seasonal drinks! The peppermint mocha was a hit. It was consumed very quickly. The lemon ricotta pancakes came with a small metal pitcher of real maple syrup. The taste was light and delicious! Personally he would have liked the option to add seasonal berries, whipped cream, or a pat of butter. But they were still wonderful as is! I really enjoyed the chilaquiles! The green sauce had a bit of a kick but it wasn't overwhelming. The portion size was filling without leftovers. Personally I really like duck. I think this is one of the few places that consistently has duck on the menu. The duck was moist and flavorful. I was told by an acquaintance this place has really good oysters! So I'll have to come back during the dinner hours to try those too.

The Highs: The Polenta fries were good. Really enjoyed the sauce. They come as a set of 4 big fries. The service was pretty good. They kept the water cups full and were attentive even though it was busy. The Lows: We both ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes. They were way thinner than I like my pancakes to be. They were ok. Not my fav. We also ordered the Mac and cheese. It was a little soupy with shells versus elbow macaroni. Also not bad but not my fave. The In-Between: We decided to come here for brunch. I did reservations online about an hour in advance and we were seated right away. It was bussling inside so we asked to sit outside on the patio. The tables were a little rusted and wobbly but no biggie. They ran out of brunch menus at first but we were able to look it up on our phone. Our server was Sam. She was cool. The food came out fast enough.... Maybe 20 minutes after we ordered. Overall the experience was ok. If we were to return, I'd definitely try other things.

Food was a 3-4 star, polenta fries and potato chips were good. Risotto was decent, not very creamy and was just warm. Chicken sandwich was good flavor, but bread to meat ratio was off. Had a small piece of chicken in a large room temp bun, could've been amazing with a buttered and toasted bun and a bit bigger piece of chicken. Enjoyed the ice tea. Staff were friendly. There were a lot of people enjoying their afternoon and ambiance as intimate and lively. They brought me a nice birthday dessert, which was a pleasant treat. Definitely would recommend if you're getting appetizers and drinks, on the fence about recommending as a lunch spot. Would give 3.5 stars but rounding to 4.

Ambiance was cozy and staff were friendly. I had dinner on a Tuesday night around 5pm so it wasn't busy. Got seated immediately and staff were attentive. What i ordered: Polenta Fries (4/5): These weren't bad. Super crispy and great seasoning, but i don't think i'm a huge fan of Polenta. However, my bestfriend enjoyed every bit of it and highly recommends. I do think i would've enjoyed it more if it wasn't so thick. Entree (4/5)- My mistake for not taking a picture of the menu and this item isn't currently on the menu anymore. The fish was cooked and seasoned pretty well and it was on top of a lemon risotto. The lemon zest complimented the dish very well and provided a perfect balance. I ordered the Backdoor Berry Bramble (4/5): Not too sweet and not too strong. I wish it had more of a strawberry flavor, but it will do.

I had lunch here for the first time yesterday. I had never been to a farm to fork before so I was interested. I ordered the shrimp fried rice with the extra egg. The presentation leaves something to be desired, but I was hoping the flavor would make up for it. Unfortunately, it was nothing to write home about. There were very few shrimp in the dish for the price. The service was great but I won't be going back.

The atmosphere was cozy and festive during my holiday lunch with dad. He and his wife ordered the portobello mushroom burgers and they were tough in the middle so that was a bit disappointing. My risotto with salmon was delicious but a little too heavy on the butter. The cranberry cheesecake was a sweet birthday treat, compliments of the staff. Would definitely come back and try other dishes.

Ate outside with a dog - staff were very friendly and brought water for my dog. It is a very cute space with pretty flowers and trees. I had the short rib hash and it was delicious. The meat was cooked to perfection and the cilantro cream complimented the meal well.

Bahn Mi: 4/5 stars. Not bad! Fatty part of the pork was not appetizing. Cut that off, Chef!

Not bad! A little pricy. Wish the prices reflected the portions a bit more. The food was tasty, though, and very fresh. The cocktail I ordered was delightful and we enjoyed our experience. Worth a try, especially in Vacaville where nice options that aren't chains are hard to come by.

The only reason I didn't give a 5 star is because there was a fly buzzing around our table and the waiter that I told didn't do anything about it. I highly recommend getting that zapper for the flies because some people can't relax when there's flies around them while they're eating. I decided I will personally just buy myself a purse fly zapper to take care of the problem myself because other restaurants for whatever reason just don't have a fly swatter either, maybe it's not allowed.

Our cocktails were amazing and we shared some French fries which were some of the best I've ever had. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. These were thick fries that reminded of chips you get in the UK at a chippy shop. My lasagna was pretty good, though it did seem a slight bit bland. But very cheesy indeed. My wife loved her spaghetti and ravioli dish which she ended up taking home. Pietro's #2 is a staple in Vacaville just as #1 is. I won't say which one is better, but you can't go wrong with either one.

The inside has a nice chill vibe and there were a few TVs playing one of the college Bowl games. Latausha was our server and she was very courteous and friendly. We started off with some focaccia bread which had nice flavor, but I was expecting the bread to be warm and it was cold. My wife thought the parmesan cheese was a little salty. We ordered the calamari strips to start off... they were fried perfect and coated with a nice panto crust. The zing from the lemon juice kicked it up a notch. I went with the steak sandwich... the steak and juicy and tender; which the bread was nicely toasted and had a nice garlic flavor. We were seated immediately, which I always appreciate. The space is pretty big with a modern feel, and there's plenty of parking out front (no circling the lot like a hawk -- love that). Even though they gave us the lunch menu, we went à la carte. Ordered: tandoori chicken, butter chicken, coconut shrimp, butter naan, and rice -- all medium spice where applicable. The tandoori chicken was tender and well seasoned -- no dry chicken nonsense here. The butter chicken was exactly what you want it to be: rich, creamy, tomato-forward, and comforting. But the one that caught me off guard a bit was the coconut shrimp -- creamy, slightly sweet, and a little more mild than "medium" heat, probably because of the coconut milk, but still really good. And listen... the butter naan? Fresh, warm, and absolutely necessary. Both the butter chicken and coconut shrimp were made for dipping. No shame in wiping those plates clean. Service was great. Staff was kind, checked in on us without hovering, and kept our water filled without us needing to flag anyone down. Overall -- easy, enjoyable lunch. Good food, good service, no complaints.
