    World famous Calamari Strips
    Tammy P.

We were looking for a place to meet some old friends in between Sac and Bay Area so found this spot in Yelp so thought we would check it out. On Friday around 5:30pm we were able to find parking out front on the street. You go in a side entrance which has a few outdoor tables and when you walk in, if you go right there is a bar area and left is the restaurant area. Looks like a place that families and older couples like to eat. We got there a little early so asked for a table for four. We were seated in about 5 minutes and while waiting for our friends ordered a drink. They offer beer, wine and cocktails. They have a large menu and have specials also. I ordered the Pear Collins and hubby had a beer. Once our friends arrived our waitress took our orders. We started with the Tequila Grilled Prawns and the World Famous Calamari. I ordered the Beet and Goat Cheese Salad and hubby had the Chicken Asiago Fettuccine. Our friend ordered the Pork Chop. The pork chop was huge and she said it was delicious. Hubby liked the pasta but although there was plenty of salad and beets, there was just a big glob of sour cream on top. Service was good and our waitress was very friendly and took good care of us.

Merchant & Main Grill & Bar is a fun restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, yes right on Merchant Street near Main in historic downtown Vacaville. Five of us ate lunch outside and it probably was not the best choice in the hot sun. Service was amazing and they did their best moving umbrellas to keep us shaded. I was surprised that the menu was so varied. I expected bar food and this was much higher quality. We had raw Washington State oyster shots. We ordered more. Yum! The steamed Manila clams were also delicious and we finished all two pounds. M&M's World Famous Calamari quickly disappeared. I was craving lamb chops (I'm always craving them) and the Rosemary Marinated Lamb Chops were perfectly seasoned and grilled. Dad enjoyed his salad and Mahi Mahi taco. Draft Modelo beers were perfect for the heat. It was an enjoyable afternoon and the food and servers were excellent. M&M is definitely a local restaurant we will return to.

We came here for lunch on a Monday and decided to sit outside amd enjoy the nice weather. Kayla, our server, was very courteous and helpful. We started off with the Chili's Lime Wings which was a great choice. The wings were nice size portions and great flavor. My NY Steak was delicious and she enjoyed her Chicken Marsala dish. And whoever was the bartender didn't skimp on our cocktails they were great.

I've been coming to this place for decades however, today was super busy and there were only 2 waitresses so the wait was longer than usual (4 stars). The salmon special was a tad bit on the dry side (4 star rating). The atmosphere is warm, cozy, and inviting in the dining room area. There is also a bar area where you could sit and eat. I recommend this place if you're in the area.

Whether you're look for to get a really nice dinner or just hang out at the bar for one of their weekly specials and drink, this is the restaurant/bar for you. Every time I visit I receive a warm welcome. This particular review is on their dish called Wharf City Pasta, Tosemary Marinated Lamb Chops, and Oyster Shooters (forgot the pic of the shooters). Basically, it was all amazing, the cream in the pasta was heavenly. The lamb chops were cooked perfectly and those mashed potatoes were not only fluffy but also perfectly seasoned. If you enjoy Oysters, these will melt in your mouth. They really open up the pallet and you can't wait to look forward for your meal. We chose to sit at the bar because we always have great conversations with the other patrons and it's nice to be able to order your drink and they come up really quick. Literally, my only real issue if any is that they don't have Bullet Rye or Orange bitters, I never asked if they had Luxardo cherry's, but if they did, I'm an Old Fashioned kind of lady. Especially if it is smoked with a nice orange rind and clear cubed ice. I'm just being extra though. Stop in and try all the drinks they have, they are devine.

This was a nice lunch for four. The offer for Champagne is included and we all had Eggs Benedict. Nice quiet meal. i would return.

I would give this place a high 3.5. Service was good, nothing spectacular . Did not have to wait long to be seated. Came during brunch on a Sunday. Did not think it was worth the 27.99 per person . We received a small plate of fruit and bite size pieces of muffins for four people. Champagne and apple cider were offered. I enjoyed my BLATT sandwich with hot crispy fries. My husband got the burger that was supposed to have bacon jam. We were not told until after that the menu has not been updated. But our server was nice enough to provide some bacon strips. Pickles and veggies on both sandwiches were fresh and delicious. It was a nice warm day so it was nice to sit outside on the patio under the shade.

Came in for a Sunday brunch with a friend and the restaurant was a bit busy. We waited about 20 minutes for a table for 2, and were seated near the window that faces the Main Street. Definitely a cute spot with good lighting for photos. The staff were very attentive and verified quite a few times if we needed anything else. We both ordered from the brunch menu and our plate of fruit and bread was presented immediately. Although the fruit and bread feels like it could have been store bought, it was a nice addition to the brunch. Our champagne was also very good, and we both got about 3 or 4 refills each. Smaller glasses, but it was enough to satisfy us both. I ordered a seasonal scramble and it was pretty good. The potatoes were delicious and I feel like it was as a pretty good portion. We also split a warm toffee butter cake for dessert, and it was also really good. I would probably lay off on the whipped cream, but the warm cake with the sweet strawberries was heavenly. About $28 for brunch, plus $5 for half of the dessert, then a tip gave me a total of around $40. Considering the plate of fruit and bread could be considered an included appetizer, and the champagne was free refills, plus a dessert, I would consider this place a solid brunch place to consider.

My last visit this past weekend was another one for the books. My uncle and I shared a few things, but the Macho Nachos and M&M Salad absolutely stole the show. The tri-tip dip was tasty too--though I think I would've loved it even more with thinner cuts of meat. This place has been a staple in my family for years, and it's a must every time I'm in town. The service is always quick, the vibe is that cozy, old-school diner charm, and the menu? Massive. Something for everyone. We'll be back--again and again.

Was brought here for my birthday brunch and may I say very good service. Very attentive and fast. Always keeping our drinks full. We did the champagne and ordered some juices. I got the Union Street Benedict, it was different but yet so yummy. And the potatoes, I was amazed at how crunchy they were. We went at a good time. Almost right at opening. I can tell they must get busy during the brunch menu because for the price.... It was all 10/10.

Tri-tip steak with three over easy eggs

During a recent visit to downtown Vacaville, my friends and I were browsing Yelp for lunch spots when a local recommended we check out Merchant & Main Grill & Bar down the street from where we were hanging out. When we stopped by on a Saturday afternoon, the place was pretty quiet, and our group of six was seated within a few minutes. The menu here is unlike anything I've seen before. Instead of listing individual prices for each item, there's just one price at the top of the menu: $27.99. That price includes your choice of an entree, a seasonal fruit plate with slices of pound cake to share at the table, and most notably -- bottomless champagne or apple cider. You're free to switch between the two at any time, or skip them entirely if neither sounds appealing. Some entrees definitely feel like a better deal than others. For example, a steak and eggs plate with three eggs would typically cost more than a veggie omelet at most restaurants, so the flat pricing adds a bit of strategy to your order. I went with the loco moco, while my wife ordered the steak and eggs. My eggs were cooked perfectly to order (over medium), and the burger patty had good seasoning. Unfortunately, the dish fell short when it came to the gravy and rice. The gravy tasted like a generic brown sauce--something straight out of a McCormick brown gravy packet, and the rice had the appearance of fried rice, with bits of frozen vegetables mixed in, but the texture was more like a pilaf. I wouldn't order it again. On the other hand, my wife's tri-tip was cooked nicely to a medium rare and was far more enjoyable than my dish. My only minor critique would be that the steak could've used just a touch more salt. Service throughout our meal was excellent. Our server was consistently attentive: any time our coupe glasses were empty, they were quickly refilled with champagne. I'd definitely consider dining at Merchant & Main again, but next time, I'll be more selective with my entree.

There are changes to the menu. We noticed our go to items weren't on there: - Ribeye steak - Chicken Shirley - M&M Bruschetta Although they were replaced with other good options!

Back Door Bistro, Vacaville: 2026 Jul 10 (4.29 of 5)…read more Ladies Gathering!! The service here is a 4.5 of 5. We had different servers who attended to us and they're both friendly and looked cheerful. We got there towards the end of Happy Hour and was presented with their Happy Hour menu. The menu is small, easy to read and has almost everything we'd want for that time of day - including the drinks. The food is a 'hit' or 'miss'. Here's my review: Drinks: Both the Arnold Palmer and the Cadillac Margarita were good. My lemonade tea wasn't overly sweet and I could definitely taste the lemonade. The pitcher of Cadillac Margarita looks innocent but may give someone a slow and powerful buzz if you're not used to the drink. (4.75 of 5) Charcuterie: This a complete appetizer board. Overall, there were some hits and misses, however, we agreed this is a well thought out appetizer board. (4 of 5) Crispy Brussels Sprouts: This is the best dish here, featuring deeply caramelized, dark golden-brown edges and a nutty, earthy flavor. Their Crispy Brussels Sprouts is also the best we've had. The seasoning is on-point, allowing the texture to show off its crackling, crunchy bite on the outside, contrasted by a tender, melt-in-your-mouth interior. (5 of 5) Seasonal Tacos: "Oh WOW!" The explosion of spicy and tangy flavours balanced by contrasting textures makes this dish "pop". (4.75 of 5) Beet Salad: The colours were lovely, but this beet salad was over-salted. The vibrant dish featuring beets as the main ingredient, balances the earthy sweetness with contrasting textures and flavours. If this wasn't too salty, it would have been more refreshing. (3.75 of 5) Coconut Lime Bouillabaisse (halibut, jasmine rice, spinach, snap pea, pickled shiitake mushroom, coconut lime broth, basil oil): Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Bouillabaisse means seafood. The only seafood we noticed were chunks of halibut, which were delicious. This dish looks and tastes more like an elevated Thai soup dish that cost too much. (3.5 of 5) After walking in, we decided to sit outdoors because of the loud music that was playing. We're glad we did. The overhang on the veranda was well positioned with plants and flowers softening the cement walkway. The weather was pleasant - with a gentle breeze blowing down the corridor. Parking is easy if you arrive early enough. One last note: Back Door Bistro in Vacaville was featured on "Check, Please! Bay Area"

10 out of 10 I would visit again!…read more Went here for a nice afternoon treat with my husband and daughters. From the time you enter to the time you leave there was nothing but good service. We sat in the middle of the floor at an open table with other families all around us, but in view of the ice-cream station for the person who was making sundaes. Our waitress was kind, very attentive to our refills and making sure we were satisfied with our menu selections. I tried the cheesesteak sandwich- it made to excellent perfection. Coming out on a Dutch Crunch roll, I expected the bread to be a bit hard, but to my surprise it was very nice and soft. Easy to bite and chew. The meat and melted cheese were very delicious. Onion rings on the side were cooked just right and crispy. No one in our party was disappointed. The ice-cream at the end was just enough to top off the experience. I'll say when visiting here, the prices are kind of high for just a night out, but well worth it. Paid a little over $150 for a family of four. I'd recommend you try this spot. It's got the Leatherby's feel but a whole different vibe.

A California Classic That Lives Up to the Hype…read more Some places have history. Some places have incredible food. And every once in a while, you find a place that has both. Fentons Creamery is one of those rare gems. Walking into a restaurant that's been serving families for well over 100 years is an experience all by itself. You can feel the history the moment you walk through the doors. It's nostalgic without feeling outdated, and it's clear why generations of families have continued coming back. The restaurant itself is huge, incredibly clean, and has such a fun atmosphere. One of my favorite features was the massive spinning display showcasing all of their incredible ice cream creations. It's impossible to look at it without feeling like a kid again, and trying to decide what to order becomes the hardest part of the visit. We started with lunch, and it did not disappoint. I ordered the Triple-Decker Chicken Club, and it was enormous. Every layer was fresh, flavorful, and stacked high with quality ingredients. We upgraded to the seasoned curly fries, and that may have been the best decision of the meal. They were perfectly seasoned, incredibly crispy, and served with what tasted like freshly made house ranch that was absolutely outstanding. Honestly, the food alone would have made this restaurant worth visiting. Then came dessert... We ordered the Monster Brownie Sundae, and "monster" is no exaggeration. It arrived at the table looking like something out of a movie--towering scoops of ice cream, rich hot fudge cascading down the sides, whipped cream piled high, chopped nuts, and the classic cherry on top. The real star, though, was their famous Dutch Chocolate Chip ice cream. Without exaggeration, this was some of the best ice cream I've ever had--not just in California, but anywhere. The texture was unbelievably creamy, the chocolate flavor was rich without being overpowering, and the chocolate chips added the perfect bite. It's easy to understand why Fentons has earned such an incredible reputation over the last century. What made the entire experience even better was the staff. Every member of the wait team we interacted with was friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed happy to be there. Great service can elevate a meal, and they absolutely did. Overall, this was one of those meals that reminds you why local institutions survive for generations. Amazing food, legendary ice cream, outstanding service, a fun family atmosphere, and memories made around the table. If you're anywhere near the area and love classic American diners or incredible homemade ice cream, Fentons Creamery belongs at the top of your list. Prices were a little steep, but it was definitely worth it because the portions were massive. We'll definitely be back and next time, we're saving even more room for dessert.

Thick slices of tomato, avocado, and crisp iceberg lettuce with lite mayo spread and comes with your choice of sides. I choose French fries but they have a rosemary breakfast potato I stared to get but maybe next time for sure. My fries were served hot & crispy (not hard). The size of my croissant and mountain of fries covered my entire plate. There is a wait but it is worth every minute. Service is superb. The prices are very reasonable. I also had the peach mango mimosas called Da Bomb! And it was indeed. I got a nice buzz it was cold and refreshing. And not served in a narrow flute glass for only $11. I didn't need a second glass and probably would have stumbled my way out if I had. I've been traveling between Napa and Sacramento for monthly brunches for the past five years. It's a family tradition adopted following the pandemic. Most restaurants that I choose is based on the menu items. Oh and another entrée the Heritage serves is loaded grits. This and the meat lovers omelette caught my attention. Our tab plus beverage and tax for table of two was under $45. If you are a breakfast lover and want a nice breakfast meal in a cozy cafe located in downtown Vacaville where the price is right - you don't want to miss out. There's also out door dining. I don't know the history behind this place or how they been around but this was like finding a gold mine. Not sure how other businesses in the area can compete. Again it's a small cozy spot, warm house atmosphere, not noisy, and once seated food comes faster than the wait time. Excellent customer service. If I was a regular breakfast eater I think I could eat here everyday. I could surly afford it and that's a fact. Well Mac Donald's breakfast is fast and inexpensive and that's the only comparison. There's one restaurant chain I will no longer bother to dine at now that I've been to Heritage House Cafe. If you care not to try Heritage cafe for yourself that's okay. This keeps wait time shorter. lol. Seriously I think you will enjoy their meals, the atmosphere, great service and sparkling mimosas'

I ordered the BBQ chicken breast and ribs combo with two sides, and at around $23, I thought it was a great value. Living in San Jose, I'm used to BBQ meals costing significantly more. Of course, the fresh rolls with the cinnamon butter were just as delicious as I remembered. No one in our group had any complaints. The food, atmosphere, reasonable prices, and outstanding service made for a memorable family celebration. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Fairfield.

Ribeye topped with sautéed mushrooms and onions. Delicious. Ate this quicker than a jackrabbit in a field on fire. Yes sir!
