After being stationed in Lawton my fiancé and I have made it our goal to find the best little local places here. This Backporch is our new 'go to' for a drink or dinner. This establishment is walking distance from our home and is located in a relatively nice little retail area. It's one of the few places that you can safely 'bar hop' at because it's right next to a lovely little wine bar (Chianti's) and there's a dive bar a couple blocks down the road called Red Dirt. This place is brand new; it opened its doors less than a month ago and it's still getting its footing. With that being said the service here is still better than some other local restaurants that have been open much longer. All of the servers are younger women and it's rare that we get a waitress who just doesn't legitimately seem happy to be doing her job. We've been here multiple times and the few that recognize us as regulars typically make a point to at least say 'hi' as they pass by the table. This is the second 'Backporch' to open in Lawton. There is another one on the other side of town. I do think the other one has a bit better of a set up, but each Backporch carries an entirely different collection of draft beer- which means you can hop between the two locations and get a totally different set of beers on tap. This has lead my fiancé and I to hop between these places, sometimes within the same day, because we like the general atmosphere and enjoy trying new beers. The beers here change almost daily- as soon as one keg runs out, another different one replaces it. They only keep two or three 'staples' on tap- and the rest are changed out. They try to make a point to carry at least one local Oklahoman beer as well; which I like seeing local businesses support other local businesses. Backporch serves a basic array of 'bar food' options. Their main staple is burgers. The burgers are thick and often loaded with a lot of toppings. Personally, I don't like really big thick burgers- so I opt for the salads. Their salads are some of the most unique and flavorful I've ever had. The Mexican Salmon salad is spicy and hits my Mexican food craving perfectly. The salmon is always perfectly cooked. The Thai Crispy Shrimp salad is sweet and tangy- and adorned with six deep fried shrimp accented with sweet chili sauce. Again, a very flavorful option. And the BBQ Beer Can Chicken Chop salad is like a barbeque chicken burger without the bun. It's rare that I actually look forward to eating salad- but the salads here truly are worth trying (even if you're not a lettuce liker- I think they'll change your mind!). They also have a few other greasy spoon options including sandwiches, baja tacos, and chicken tenders. The appetizer selection is a bit limited and very stereotypical. Almost all of the appetizers include the same thick cheesy queso- so if you're not a cheese eater, it'll be tough to find something that fits your fancy. My only real complaint for this place is that the seating is quite uncomfortable. They do have booth seating, but the booths are wooden benches (very easy to maintain, very uncomfortable to sit on). I'd like to see them put cushions on them at some point. They do have an adult bar area with high top tables and cushioned tall bar chairs (that swivel). And they have smaller tables with wooden chairs. I love booth seating, because I find it more private and easy to talk between the people I'm dining with. But their booth seating is terribly uncomfortable. They're also advertised as a sports bar, but have a very limited and poorly placed TV selection- and rarely play the sound for the games. If you are truly interested in getting a good viewing experience you'll probably need to head elsewhere. Aside from that the food here is always decent. It's not my favorite culinary place in the world, but I like how well-maintained and service oriented Backporch is. I love the ever changing beer selection and like the fact it's walking distance from other bar establishments in Lawton. A great little place to start or end an evening out- and by far, one of the overall best places to visit in Lawton. read more

One must have patience, especially if you come with more than four people. Although they say large parties are welcome, they are ill equipped to handle them. Food was okay, but nothing special. The service was the best thing about the whole experience. read more

Great atmosphere but the beer on tap has become a so pricey. The same co/op on tap was actually cheaper at the wine bar a couple doors down.

We were seated as soon as we arrived, we had a reservation per manager Amanda. She is an OUTSTANDING manager, every time we visit this restaurant she is always going out of her way to make sure your experience is perfect. Our waitress Shelby was awesome as well. We always have a great time at this establishment and visit frequently. However after last nights run in with the manager Rachel, we will NOT be back. I have heard about her behavior from some of the staff and yesterday evening experienced a very unpleasant encounter with her myself. She was asked a simple question about the price of beer and immediately started raising her voice and acting very childish. Spoke to us like we were scum of the earth, very discriminating, spoke poorly about our table to other employees, very unprofessional, and just down right a very nasty attitude. I can not believe the way she acted towards our table after being asked a very simple question to which should've received a very simple answer. Instead her anger and attitude got the best of her. The original location set a high bar. This one failed miserably. They made my drink wrong, then brought me the wrong wings. When I told the waitress I would like to just stick with those wings so I can be done with it (I'm always leery about what might happen to my food if I send it back), she kept asking if I was sure, which I found frustrating. Just left back porch draft house and had terrible service from our server A R. We were a party of 5 people on a very small high top. We did not mind because seating was limited. She did not clear dishes when they were empty. We only saw her once after the food came out and she did not bring the beer that was ordered until we asked for the check. Best place in town hands down. Jalapeño popper burger is a killer! The hand cut fries are to die for! Not to mention the chocolate mouse cake they have!! Ahhhh, it's heaven in your mouth. Horrible service! Go to the one on Gore and don't waste your time here. Been here 5 times and have not yet had a good experience. Food is great but the service is bad. Each time I come in there is 2 hostesses there talking for a good min before your greeted at the door. I picked up food one day and walked to the bar and the bartender said to me someone is sitting there and I never sat down. I said I was picking up and she tells me to go down to the end. Very rude and seemed to only tend to one group of people. Manager never helped her staff and stood in the corner talking with other employees and bad mouthing employees. Made the table next to them get up and leave. I sat there for 12 min before someone asked me what I would like to drink. The manager walked past me 3 times and said nothing as well as the 2 bartenders. I will give Gore location 5 stars as each time I walked in there the staff immediately greets you and are very nice. Management walks around checking on tables and are very polite. They all work together and the bartenders were amazing. Cache location is horrible! read more

Back Porch West has caused me great problems. The problem is now I go to this one and have not been to the Back Porch on Gore Blvd. Brittany is the manager and she is Special. Great food, friendly staff. Have my special place to sit. The food: I have had everything and have my favorites but everything is good. We always enjoy going here, Lunch or dinner. We went Friday July 7, 2017 at 7 PM. the place was busy with live music, it had a great ambiance. We were a little disappointed in the service. We waited over 40 minutes for two dinners. The waitress told us at about 20 minutes in that our ticket was not hung when we asked why others who came in after us were being served. While the original Gore Blvd Back Porch is still awesome, this new BP location suffers the same fate of the failed Saltwater Grill... Truly terrible service. No idea if it's a staffing issue, or poor management, or a magical combination of both... but if you're craving BP, drive across town to the original location. read more

So last night my family and I went to the newer Back Porch West on NW Cache road in Lawton. The wait staff was fair to good. We did find our waitress just a bit unresponsive, smiling vacuously and sailing by after I had created eye contact with her, clearly wanting something. Twice. Actually had to call and flag her down and it was not packed and busy. Otherwise she did okay and I left her a good tip. On to the food. Our orders came in average time and were complete and correct. The burgers were excellent. The normal fries, however, were heavily encrusted with far too much salt. All three orders were served like that. I call that a shameless bid to have customers buy more drinks. My wife's entire order was left barely touched because of this salting. The sweet potato fries were not over-salted and were perfect. So we had a side of mayo. 25 cents! I mean a tiny spoonful! A quarter! They also served (upon request and for another 25 cents apiece!) a weird looking and tasting attempt at honey mustard, which we found absolutely inedible, and a side of regular mustard. I had a side of what was called "creamy cole slaw". It was also inedible and horrible tasting. I called the waitress over and she took it away and said she would adjust the bill. Enter the bill: 4 adults eating, no military discount available, some 58 dollars without tip or tax, just the bill. I didn't check it and signed it first.....then saw that the slaw had not been removed from the bill. I reengaged the waitress and she disappeared again, returning with the manager. There endured some discussion about redoing the bill, but that I would be double billed until the bank sorted it out because of pending charges and their inability to just pay us back the two dollars in cash; in fact saying that they did not even possess a traditional register and had no cash to give us to prevent the double billing. My wife asked specifically about cash paying customers and the manager would not answer her about that at all, dancing around the answer and finally and perhaps a little grudgingly allowing that she would retrieve the 2 dollars from petty cash. All that over a 10 minute period over 2 bucks, inconveniencing us and cementing in us that this place probably won't last long.....and certainly won't exist from any more of my money. Surcharges for condiments in an already expensive burger sit down restaurant is ridiculous and unacceptable. Poor managership is the problem with the Back Porch. I suggest you stay far, far away....and if you want a delicious burger, go to McKenzies in Lawton....or drive a little out of town some 45 minutes to Snyder for the best burger in the state with always solid service at the Bait Shop Burgers.
