Seriously Backstreet is my guilty pleasure. I have been coming here for about 4 years now and I always get the same thing every time. I get a turkey on squaw and I add fresh cranberries at the salad bar. It is truly food heaven, everyone I bring here gets completely hooked. What can I say. This is a diamond in Riverside. I always enjoy my lunch here. The freshest sheepherder's bread. I always get the roast beef, with the extra juice on my meat. I don't even have to order anymore as he knows what I want. Then, make sure you get a piece of fresh banana creme pie. It is the best,. I ask for an extra plate as I make my way thru the fresh garnish bar. They have pickled beets, pickled cucumbers, fresh green onion, freshly made dill pickles, and pickled cauliflower, carrot's, and yellow chili's. You walk outside and find a nice table, and enjoy your creation. The girls will come by and remove your tray and make sure your dining experience is A+. The ambiance of this place, combined with it's great tasting food is what really makes this place a local gem. The outdoor seating is elegant and simple and the staff here truly serve from the heart. Kristine was very much a big part of the great experience I had there, she was very attentive, polite and genuinely showed happiness for her establishment. This being my first time I ordered a roast beef sandwich on squaw bread, it was piled high with a generous portion of roast beef topped with what I think was swiss cheese and covered in a nice Au Jus sauce. GREAT! The potato salad was a great side portion and with the unlimited veggie cart all for $11 I left full and with a few bucks to spare. Stopped in and had a pastrami on rye bread, beans and cole slaw. Was a Nice sandwich nothing I'd kill over, but then again pretty good size for your money, then me n the wife had some pie. The banana & lemon pie & the BANANA was the Bomb and I will say the lemon was ok. There open only for a few hours a day and only weekly and also be prepared for the parking, we park on the corner of Brockton n Nelson and walked over. I heard about this place from a morning news segment and decided to give it a try. I had the pastrami sandwich. It was piled on pretty high, but not the best. Good, though. the bread is not special, but not bad. It's an average deli, but at an expensive price. The Potato salad tasted store bought. My wife tried the spinach salad. She was not impressed. Some of the people on here have said the staff was rude, or uppity. We had a very pleasant experience with the staff. They could not have been nicer. The parking is terrible, but you can park in the center across the street. Not sure if I will be back. There are better sandwiches for about the same or less money. If I lived in the neighborhood I might go from time to time. About a 30 minute drive, for me. It's quaint and nice, so it's worth a visit if you're in the area. read more

Backstreet is a gem. Never a bad experience. Fantastic meaty sandwiches (I'm partial to turkey, pastrami, or the special - pastrami & roast beef), delicious sides (especially the potato salad and baked beans), and a great salad/side bar with pasta salad and veggies. The garden setting is great to dine in and there's also some indoor seating for the really hot summer days or cold rainy winters. Love this place. Love it. read more

I'll admit that the food is really really good, but I have a hard time paying $12 for a sandwich... even if it is big enough that I can split it in between two meals, if I load up on the pasta. If the weather is nice, it's really a great place to go for lunch and sit outside. Backstreet is one of those shops that bring a small town feel to a bigger city. Their sandwiches are the BEST you'll ever have but in my opinion they are pretty darn good. This place is absolutely adorable! I love coming here, even when its hot they manage to keep you cool with their misters ;) The setting is lovely with the plants, fountain and garden decor. Riverside's best kept secret and the best pastrami sandwiches in the world!!! When you order your food, there is a photo of the soup nazi looking at you and reminding you they don't have lettuce. They got 2 slices of bread, spread some mayo on it and a bunch of Turkey. They didn't ask me if I wanted cheese. I had to ask if they put cheese on it, they only have Swiss. The sandwich with a small side of potato salad came out to $11. The condiment bar had a bunch of stuff I would never put on a sandwich. I had to ask for mustard. Prices a little high but the atmosphere, extra meat on your sandwiches, free pasta bar and the hired help that pay attention to your needs is worth every penny. This place was great! The outside is tropically beautiful, lots of plants and trees. The inside is cute, and is filled with nice staff. I work downtown Riverside and have loved this place for years! Our whole office does a phone order because the parking is very tight and the line can get a little long. But it moves fast and the service is tip top! Yes it's a little pricy but the quality is well worth it. I order a turkey sandwich and eat half for lunch along with the veggie bar items that fills me up. Then I eat the other half a few hrs later before I leave work at 430 so its a lunch and small snack. Well worth the price! And very thankful for awesome staff! read more

I came in and communicated that I had never been here before and the house special was recommended to me. The house special was a roast beef and pastrami sandwich. Mannn, that bread. It was the softest bread I have ever eaten and the meat was so great. I ordered a full sandwich thinking I would bring some home, but yup... I ate the whole dang thing. That first bite made me a Backstreet Restaurant addict and I'm taking my husband there this Friday night. I LOVE this place and had a very good first impression. Met up with my mom today for lunch.I've been wanting to try out this spot for awhile.It did not disappoint. There was a line out the door !There are misters and even a fan to help you cool off in the Riverside heat while you wait.I ordered the jr. meal.It comes with 1/2 sandwich and a side choice of either chips,coleslaw,or potato salad.I decide on a pastrami on sour dough with a mayo and mayonnaise mix as the topping.There is an endless condiment bar which includes great sandwich sides like pasta salad,different types of pickles and veggies.I added raspberry ice tea.Ahhh raspberry ice tea.I actually get giddy when I see that as a drink option.There was both indoor and outdoor seating .I chose outdoor for the ambiance .The peaceful garden setting was something I was looking forward to.My pastrami sandwich was delicious and the meat was so tender it melted in my mouth with every bite.The potato salad was just okay.It had a slight tang to it.I prefer a smoother taste.The wait staff works together to make sure your cup stays full and your tabletop stays clear .I decided I wanted to add a piece of the banana cream pie and stood back in line.An employee who noticed me politely told me that I didn't have to wait .She followed me back to the table ,took my order,then brought the pie to me.The pie was light and delicious.Everyone from the sandwich maker to the cashier was friendly and polite .It seemed like the staff worked well together and enjoy what they do.I was impressed. read more

A friend took me here for the first time....its a moms an pops kinda place..its hidden an u wouldnt expect the outside patio to be so gorgeous..the food was really good..they have a lil veggie bar to go with your sandwich too...they saw me struggling with my child...the lady offered to hold my tray an get my son a highchair right away..other places jus point where the highchairs are at..how nice is that!!.other places wouldnt even help like that.let alone help me hold my tray!!..that is amazing service!!..i will definitely be back to show my husband this place..the portion of food is a lot too..in the pictures it doesnt look like a big sandwich but it is packed with meat!..good job guys!..my friend said to check yelp before you make a trip down there first though because their hours are a little weird..but overall nice people, nice scenery, and great food! read more
