Come here often as they have a small kids area that is actually useful. They have a decent happy hour and the bar food is pretty good. I think the pizzas are the best thing on the menu. The beer is a must. They even have a kids menu that comes with a cookie (or not). The service is excellent especially the way they handle themselves around the chaos of the children's area. The servers always seem to be around when you need a beer and even like the kids! Inside is high ceilings and a relaxed vibe. There is a bar area for adults only. It is always clean. Sometimes the music is a little loud. Parking can be tricky when the lot is full, but there is street parking along Powell. Recommend for the beer and the kids area. read more

Stopped in at Hopworks Brewery to try their Heatwave burger for Portland Burger Week. Their food and service did not disappoint. When I entered the restaurant, I was greeted by a friendly woman. She took my order for the Heatwave and garlic fries. I waited about 10 minutes to get my order, which came out piping hot. The restaurant was clean and the vibe was chill. I loved the music playing and it could be heard both inside, and outside where they had additional seating. I couldn't wait to get home and try the Heatwave! Out of the burgers I tried for Portland Burger Week so far, the Heatwave was my favorite. The burger itself is a nice size, especially compared to other burgers that I tried that were smaller in circumference. The burger has fresh jalepeños which give it a nice spice and crunch. The spice is balanced out by my the sweet mango sauce. The ham and cheese add an extra special touch. A bunch of co-workers surprised me with a gift card recently, and I was in the area running errands with my daughter, so we decided to stop. I was quite surprised how quiet it was for a Sunday afternoon, but was happy to find parking and get seated immediately. The menu has something for most everyone and the prices are reasonable. We opted for a couple burgers and pretzel sticks for an appetizer. I also added a beer to the order. The service was great and the order came out quickly. The food looked delicious. Went here for the first time with my partner and his grandparents, I got the turkey pesto stack with Cajun fries and ranch and ketchup on the side. The sandwich itself was really good, the spicy aoli and pesto combo were phenomenal. I'm not much of a IPA drinker but my partner said there were a few on their menu that were pretty good. Also, the staff was pretty nice and outgoing making sure everything tasted right and if we needed anything else which was nice! The whole vibe in there especially the bike rack decor was pretty rad. When visiting Portland in the past, we used to go to Hopworks at their previous location in the Mississippi District. We were sad when it closed but very pleased indeed when we discovered this location on Powell, not too far away from our Airbnb. Stopped in first for a couple of happy hour beers - a very tasty German lager and an equally excellent honey golden ale - along with a couple of nicely crunchy and salty pretzels and a cup of cream of broccoli soup. Liked it so much that we stopped in the next evening as well and enjoyed the same libations all over again. A nice relaxing place to hang out for awhile - we'll be back when next we head to the Rose City, which is pretty much every other month these days. Highly recommended! read more

My friend and I went for Nacho Week. The service was bad and the nachos were fine (which is why I'm adding a star). They were the type of nachos where all the stuff is on top of the first layer of chips (about 10 of them) and the rest are plain, dry chips. Not worth it though they tasted good. The customer experience was bad. No other way to say it. We walked inside and when asked about inside or outside, we said we wanted to sit on the patio. The person at the register told us no problem and to go and sit outside and someone would be with us. Ok, great. We went outside, sat down and waited. And waited some more. We waited over ten minutes before my friend went in to see what was going on. My friend was told someone would be out to take our order. A few minutes later a waiter came out to say they weren't told we were outside (huh?!?) and sorry about that. Ok, fine. We order the nachos. We had asked the waiter how large the nachos were and they suggested get one to start as they were quick to prepare. Great. We ordered one serving of nachos and waited. Again. We were contemplating leaving when the waiter came back out and was surprised we had not received our order. They said they should have come out by now. My friend asked how long it would take as we didn't want to wait anymore and they said they'd go and check quickly. Ok, fine. We were hungry and trying to be patient but really, what the hell is going on? We got our nachos and the waiter dropped them off without a word. Not a "sorry it took so long," "do you want to order anything else" or "do you need anything." Literally a drop and run. If they didn't want to serve the outside tables then simply don't sit us there. It would have been fine. Don't put people outside and then forget about them. My son made a reservation at Hopworks for a family get together. We had 4 parents, 4 grandparents, and 4 children, ages 4 months to 4 years. Our server was great. We had a very good meal and an even better time watching the children playing with their siblings and cousins and other kids in the play areas. The adults easily moved around the table as the conversation flowed. This may sound simple but I don't think it is. I think it's a good place to eat and chat with friends, although I probably wouldn't stop by if I only needed something quick (unless I was preordering obviously). However, the food was quite good. My daughter is a beer lover and I am not. This place has lots of beer to choose from. I took sips from the 2 that she got. I did like the taste, but I would never be able to finish a whole glass! Hopworks with the logo "The Hub" is seen fairly often seen in cans in Washington and Oregon. They also have two other locations at PDX and in Vancouver so their products are fairly accessible in the Pacific Northwest. Just the other night I had one of their beers and was very impressed with it. Despite it being all over this my first experience with it. The beer that I enjoyed was the Chuckle Cones. A very refreshing IPA with a nice blend of sweetness, fruitiness and a cutting clean flavor profile that gives this beer a very refreshing finish. Pleasant first experience into Hopworks beers. It's a fun ambiance and the staff was mostly reasonable. (The first interaction we had was waiting at the host desk and an employee walked by and politely smiled at us but gave no indication of helping us, or whether someone else would be coming by or what. It would've been nice for her to be like, "Welcome, someone will be with you in just a moment!") The food itself was not great. We had burgers for mom and dad and a kids burger. Didn't think about it, but the kids burger seems defined by its NOT having lettuce and tomato. I feel like that would've been welcome. It was very try. I got the Whiskey Bomber which was also somehow dry. It ostensibly comes with BBQ sauce but I couldn't taste it and could barely even see it. The taste was, like, fine for a burger but by no means special. The onion ring all came out in my first bite. Fries were room temperature or colder all around but had a reasonable flavor. Pretty salty in a fine way. At the end of the meal we did not get the cookie that comes with the kids meal, but we kinda figured it wouldn't be great and we didn't need it anyway. If this was like the small town's local burger place it'd be a good enough option, but I don't get any reason why we'd want to come back in a city as big as Portland. read more

Great beer, food, service and ambiance! I've been here twice now, both times with my baby. The brewery is large with plenty of booths, a private room for events, and outdoor seating. We've sat in the kids area, which has a fun little corner with tons of games for littles. It's nice to have someone waiting on you at a brewery as it's become a little rare these days. Our servers have always been very friendly and attentive too. We've gotten a flight, a couple pints, some apps, and take home cans both times. They have a good variety of IPAs, and usually a sour on tap. Their canned beer is very affordable, so take a look at the fridge on your way out! read more

I happened to have a spicy BBQ chicken pizza that was much to my liking and my wife had the "best salad I've ever had" with the Ferocious Fennel Citrus Salad - with salmon added. I tried the Ferocious Citrus house brew which was... ...okay. Then I tried the Loganberry Cider and it was sensational.
