In a downtown that still has its signature edge, that gated entrance is a game-changer. I pulled up, parked, and immediately spotted the full Portland welcome committee: one guy sleeping on the sidewalk looking down on his luck, and a couple of zombies shuffling across the street. Classic PDX. One of them wandered over and, with zero hesitation, asked me for a hundred bucks... or at least to buy him something to eat. We had a good laugh about it. I told him, "Hey man, God bless maybe next time." There's something about this city where the best food and the rawest street life sit right next to each other. It's history. It's real. And yeah, it can feel a little intimidating if you're not used to it, especially if you've got your partner or family in tow. But here's the beautiful part: once you step inside the gate at Midtown Beer Garden, that whole chaotic energy stays outside. It's clean, welcoming, and surprisingly chill. You can actually sit down, enjoy your meal, and not worry about getting hassled. The selection is huge everything from legacy carts to fresh concepts and the vibe makes it easy to do a mini food cart tour. I've stopped in multiple times now, and it never disappoints. Parking can be a little quirky downtown (as expected), but once you're in, it's worth it. You're only about five blocks from the riverfront, perfect if you're planning a walk, some light hiking, or just wandering the city. Shade + bathrooms + security + killer food options = a rare win in this part of town. Look, downtown Portland has always been a mix: some of the greatest cooks, the most interesting people, and yes... a few characters who keep life spicy. Midtown Beer Garden threads that needle perfectly. It gives you the authentic Portland experience without forcing you to eat your taco while dodging drama. Depending on the day and time you come through, most of the vendors are open and serving up some serious goodies. 2 of the vendors I was looking for were actually only open during lunch when I came during dinner on a Monday. Still had plenty of options but they did feel to overlap a bit. The seating area is nice, and the bar area is split between the garden in the middle of the garden. If everyone in your group is undecided, this is a good place to come downtown and it's kept well as far as cleaning, and not a lot of peddlers around. If you're within walking distance, it's ideal. If you're driving... good luck. Parking can be hit or miss and the idea is that you want a good value for your food. Stopped by the Beer Hall Food Court at PDX -- suggested by an employee at hotel sharing this is one of the larger "pod" with 30+ vendors. Food trucks in Oregon changed since I since my last visit 7 years ago. Now, they're more like food "cart pods" (station) with picnic table area and isolated in different districts (towns). I understand from chatting with a local that 5 years ago, the city of Portland allow alcohol- brewery and wines to be served at food courts. This food court is fenced in and has a security guard. We came late (around 9:30ish so half an hour before closing) to check the place. The atmosphere was relaxed, with plenty of communal seating and a mix of travelers and locals allowing everyone to blend in. There was a local beer on tap (at the entrance) so this was the last cart to stay opened as crowd never stopped ordering. I grabbed seats & quickly ordered food from a couple of carts--only the burgers and mac & cheese stands were opened. The smashed burgers tasted good, but the patties were flattened a bit too much, making the meat-to-bun ratio thin and causing them to fall apart easily. Overall, good place close to hotel to grab dinner, with lots of options, in one place. read more

Refreshing little oasis in the middle of downtown, tucked amongst a bunch of high-rise office buildings, where you'd least expect. Some nice planters with a bunch of greenery soften the urban vibe, and you have a diverse array of carts ringing the perimeter -- even a separate beer/cocktail cart --- with a seating area in the middle, all fenced in from the outside. A security guard or two keep watch, which I appreciate in this sometimes shifty part of downtown. Carts range from Indian to Mex to sushi, to Middle Eastern; I opted for El Pilon, which features mostly Colombian snacks like arepas and empanadas. My empanadas came out perfect, crispy on the outside and steamy hot fillings within (one chicken and one chickpea, which I highly recommend). Just the right amount of food to carry me through a couple of hours til dinnertime. The counter lady was all smiles and gracious too, so a great experience all around. The vibe at the Midtown pod is friendly and the place is welcoming so I'd definitely put this on my list of regular stops. I really like Midtown Beer Garden. The space is clean and offers a variety of vendors...that one is bound to find something they like! There seemed to be very good vendors here. I saw a bunch of places here had really good ratings...but the sad thing was, I didn't have enough time in Portland to try them all! Shout of to the dogs/cats bakery Bring! Treats for Dogs that was so kind, friendly and sincere! I got my dogs some treats from this place...and honestly..my dogs could barely contain themselves when seeing these treats! I also loved the Jianbing from Bing Me! Next time, I would like to try a different type of food from this Beer Garden again! Really nice selection food trucks. About half were open on a Monday evening. Picnic tables with umbrellas. The entire area is fenced with security. There is a stage but nothing going on when we were there. There was a decent amount of people. It was fun. We had a couple beers from Fracture, they were decent. I liked this beer garden/food truck pod more for the space and cleanliness. We were able to have a whole picnic table to ourselves even though it was a pretty busy. Music was playing and the variety of food offerings was almost overwhelming, but worked out great because we all got to choose something different: Korean tofu rice bowl, carnitas quesadillas and a New York hot dog. It's been a few years since I had a JianBing but I never stopped thinking about the ones I had at Bing Mi... so on this trip to Portland I found their food cart at the Midtown Beer Garden! Midtown Beer Garden was a great introduction to the unique permanent food truck park culture that has taken over Portland. I immediately loved the ambiance with the string lights, large picnic tables, and charming food trucks lining the park. It was lively on a Friday night which made the atmosphere all the better. For dinner, I chose chicken fried rice from the "Great Tang Chinese Food" truck. Traveling from a City with a large Chinatown and award winning restaurants, the fried rice I had at Great Tang was somehow, hands down, the best I've had in a very long time. The portion was enormous too; a lotta bang for your buck here. The woman operating the truck was also incredibly friendly. I also enjoyed a beer from Fracture Brewing which is housed in a cute airstream trailer in the center of it all; also with friendly service. Bonus for this food truck park were the ample and clean restrooms on-site. Door code needed, but the security personnel on shift happily gave me the code. This will always be a go-to stop whenever we're in Portland and will be something I recommend to friends who travel there. read more

BEASTED! After walking around all day we circled back to grab dinner at the Beer Garden. We decided on here because we thought it would be nice to have such a wide variety of cuisines all in one spot. I ended up getting the Vegetable Coconut Korma dish from Best Taste of India and LOOVVEEDDD it. I got medium spicy but could've definitely gone up a heat level since I usually like my food pretty hot. I would definitely recommend this stand. My friend ate at Shawarma house and really enjoyed her falafel plate as well. Both spots were great and came out relatively quickly. Such a cool concept and would definitely recommend to anyone in the area because i'm sure you'll find a stand that peeks your interest. There's tons of seating and heaters near the tables too if you want to stay and eat. Overall. great portion sizes and fair prices! Definitely worth a stop. read more

Nice food truck park, but it seems a little slow in the winter. We visited on a Sunday in late November. Only a few of the food trucks were open, but the ones that were open seemed good. They have pretty good heating for the covered picnic tables. Even on a vey rainy day, it was comfortable. Just don't expect all the food trucks to be open in winter. read more

In town for business in July & had the amazing good luck to find myself right down the block from the midtown beer garden. An amazing assortment of food trucks & the delightful Fracture Brewing in the center. Whenever I am in a costal area I lean into the fish & seafood & was fortunate to have amazing sushi, but I was tempted by so many unique options. There are several rows of covered picnic benches, everyone sits family style. After ordering I received a buzzer to wait for my food. I was fortunate my spot was still there when I got back (so I'd recommend going with a buddy to hold a spot). read more

It was closed..Believe it or not on MONDAY August 4th,2026..I was searching for 'puppy treats' I was sooooo..happy when I saw this little wooden structure..with puppy treats..in it..sort of like a gumball machine..I would have paid $3 or 4 dollars for this little egg shaped container with 3 or 4 small treats. It was EXACTLY what I needed. My friend and I reasoned that if we bought something we would get a 'token' to use in the machine .There were NO SIGNS or amounts..but I was SOOOO.. FRUSTRATED..even when I asked the lady in the cart opposite it I GOT nothing but. strange looks and she was nice.They moved the 'doggy cart' to an actual place..but I was 2 blocks from home..I may have gotten cranky. or bitchy. by person number 7..but that's not a crime. CAN I suggest either REMOVE it or INFORM the other carts when a paying customer asks a simple question .Other than that midtown beer garden is GREAT read more

Cool spot with sooo many options - both food and drinks! I visited on a beautiful Tuesday evening with a group of coworkers. There were no more than a few people ordering at some of the food trucks, so the food came out very quickly! Plenty of picnic table seating! I opted for the The Loaded Beast Mac n Cheese. It was a giant portion and super creamy! They provide you with a buzzer so you can come back to get your food once it's ready. They had security guards walking around. I did notice they had to ask someone to leave. I appreciated they had that so that we wouldn't be approached while trying to eat our meal. read more

The beer selection here is fine, but not great. Service was fine, but not great. There are long tables available nearby to sit at while you drink, in an Oktoberfest vibe. They charged me 25% more than I owed and selected to pay at the POS, despite selecting no tip. read more

Came here in hopes to try the Bing Mi noodles only to find out they didn't sell any (they sold it at their main locations... so I feel misled by some people's photos posted on Yelp). They did have a good Jianbing, very large so it's sharable. Also tried a this one meat pancake looking thing, forgot the name of the snack and the food truck, but within reason because it was okay and not spectacular. Was also let down that for something called a "beer garden", the main bar didn't have a big selection of beers... and they were closed for the hour we were there because they were on a beer run to restock so I didn't get to try. Kind of sad that it's one person running it and not being up to par, and having to leave mid-day to get more. I'm sure it's rough out there nowadays without the help. I could get over that I couldn't get my beer at a beer garden, but the downside was that a good chunk of trucks were actually CLOSED on Saturday... so the options were slim. I will say though that there is a guard on duty and the bathrooms have keypads so that's convenient. And for the cold, they have a plethora of heaters. But I will say in my opinion, my first experience there was mid. I wasn't too impressed but I still had a good time catching up with my friends there. read more

It's really nice that one of the oldest food cart pods in town got a makeover. The new redesign of it makes it a very welcoming place to go to. They have also installed bathrooms in the area, as well as having a crew to clean up the place and security guards at the entrance. Some of the cats here have been around for a while, and then there are some new ones. Fracture Brewing is the cart that provides the alcohol. Hopefully, this is just the start of making the downtown area a place to visit again. read more

Why was this place not a thing when I worked two blocks from here. None the less I am grateful it is here now. It is super cool, was tons of places to sit. It feels very safe, as it is fenced off from the street, and a security guard posted at the entrance. Downtown needs our help, so please don't let the area discourage. My favorite food pod in downtown area, possibly in the city. Ton of choices here (maybe 20-25ish carts) w/ some notable heavy hitters as well as your standard gyro & taco carts of which there are about 3 each I believe. My favorites here are probly stretch the noodle & Tokyo sando. Ton of seating, it can get quite crowded & they have a little stage for live music sometimes too. read more

This is where I go for a delicious meal and beverage now that Nob Hill's options have become so limited for me. So far I have only tried Bing Mi and Shawarma House but they were so delicious!! I am eyeing up Cod Father to try next. I love the the ample seating, outdoor heaters and the fact that the seating is covered under tents, bike parking setup, and how accessible this is from transit downtown. I have to talk myself out of going constantly, it's just that good. You will not regret your visit! THEY ARE EXTREMELY POOR NEIGHBORS! This business plays outdoor music 24 hours a day and has allowed construction within the cart block from closing to opening (9 PM to 9 AM), contrary to Portland neighborhood noise regulations. The food court is backed up against an apartment building with windows facing that direction, and management has repeatedly failed to return any/all communications to discuss resolutions. read more

We came here just by convenience when we got to Portland- wanted options and couldn't decide on a restaurant. So many different options. I got these tacos pictured. Had a gyro from somewhere.
