So it's fair to say we had enough alcohol to call it a night, but this Mamet swizzle was so delicious I had to order another one. We were seated in the main bar area and both ordered a beverage. I got the Amazonia, a gin based drink with agave lavender and lemon juice with a macha rim. Caleb got the El Presidente, which is a rum based drink with orange liqueur, vermouth, and pomegranate. The drinks were really good, and as expected in a place like this, a bit on the expensive side, but at Swizzle you have a mixologist preparing your cocktails, which always heightens the quality! Loved the speakeasy vibes, the DJ spinning great music, and the super cool bartender who made the experience even better. Years ago I'd come here after the beach, sit on the balcony, people-watch, and cool off with a strong, frozen drink. In that sense, the place is exactly as I remember, with cold drinks on a hot Miami day and a fun atmosphere. Unfortunately, the billing experience completely changed how I felt about our visit. When the check arrived, I noticed the suggested tip percentages were unusual (around 7%, 8%, and 9%). I was planning to leave my normal 20% tip, but then the gentleman behind the bar explained that a 15% gratuity had already been added and the listed percentages would be additional. To be clear: I always tip, and I generally tip well. But adding a gratuity without authorization or clearly disclosing it up front is a big deal. A tip is supposed to be voluntary, and quietly including one, especially in a setting where you're already prompted to add more, feels misleading and wildly inappropriate. That part honestly overshadowed the visit for me. The drinks and the memories are still there, but check your bill carefully before paying. I enjoyed the nostalgia, yet this practice alone makes me hesitant to return. This practice of discretely tipping themselves is borderline theft.

Yes, the drinks were expensive, but all the drinks everywhere were expensive, so we knew that going in. We each had one drink, sat outside near the pool for awhile and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We visit it from time to time for some pool and to have some of the dishes we had on our first date. We love their pizza and wings. Everything is super flavorful, well seasoned. Never too salty. They also used to serve tots which I remember being great but I'm pretty certain are no longer served. The only reason I give it a 4 is because of the cigarette smell. Other than that it's a great place to chill and play pool. Actually one of the only places you can find where you just pay $1 or so per game as opposed to paying by the hour.
