Backyard Beans is a locally owned coffee shop with several locations in the Philly suburbs. Wanting to try out a local spot, I stopped by the downtown Lansdale location when passing through the area. There is a circular ordering area with a few high top seats and adjacent tables as you enter, with additional seating in the back. Interiors are a bit utilitarian and spartan for my tastes as I prefer a space that is more warm and welcoming. The exterior mural on the side of the building did give the place a bit more character. Many of the drinks only come in one 12 ounce size, so might not be the place if you prefer larger drinks. The mocha latte I ordered was a bit bitter and not excessively sweet, but otherwise strong. Service was a bit on the slow side, but they were experiencing a bit of a morning rush, so I won't hold it against them. While it's not a place I'd venture out of my way to visit again, Backyard Beans Coffee Company seems to be a solid coffee spot for locals and offer an ample menu of food items for those seeking something to eat. read more

I've tried a couple of drinks from backyard beans and they were good. The star of the show there is the backyard blt! It's consistently perfect. The bread holds up to the delicious basil pesto, lettuce and tomato. The bacon is NEVER floppy, ever. Add an egg and it's even better. OK after a lot of thought i really have to redo my review. The people are still friendly, the coffee is still good. So why scale this down to 3 stars? service. It's horrible. The counter is close to the door and the problem is that with slow service the line either goes out the door, which they discourage, OR it stars wrapping around the room. And the line grows. Service is slow and this all goes down to the set up and the people. there is just a single cash register and if you just want to walk up and buy your beans and leave- you're stuck in the line behind all the people placing coffee order and far too often you get some FNG who has questions , lots and lots of question and while the staff is being friendly and making sure their client understands the products, the line just grows. I understand this person wants to know what they are eating and drinking but as they have it explained why there is special cinnamon or fresh shaved chipmunk (jk) or the differences with dark and light roast beans and all the different pastries. Other people are waiting to just hand over cash. I've lost count of the number of times my wife and I have gone in for beans and while waiting to pay for the beans, we gave up on the idea of also buying cups of coffee ourselves because we don't want to wait any longer for the drinks AFTER waiting online. That's right they are actually losing business (drinks unsold) because the service is so slow. The beans are good, the people are nice, the prices fair but it desperately needs a reorganization to make service better. read more

Backyard Beans is LEGIT! Wonderful coffee shop in Lansdale worthy of competing with big city coffee shops. Their coffee is fantastic and food options are also high quality. Breakfast burrito is great and also huge, make sure to ask for their hot sauce. Nice ambience and plenty of seating. Does get busy over the weekends, so be prepared for long lines. Service is good but not exceptional as staff is generally stretched thin when very busy. All in all a gem of a find with great coffee, food and ambience! read more

Backyard Beans is part of the reason why we wanted to move to Lansdale. The food is excellent. I wish they served it a little later into the day. I always get the ricotta avocado toast and my husband gets the shore points sandwich. The coffee is always amazing. I wish they had larger sizes but I understand why they don't. Big difference between this and Dunkin (sorry Dunkin we still love you but the inconsistency is disappointing). The ambiance is very relaxing. There is plenty of space to sit down with a large room on the back for more privacy. The baristas are always so sweet and kind. There are clear regulars who work remotely from the shop. It's also a great casual meeting spot. We always bring visitors here and try to stop by as often as we can. Backyard Beans is the best! read more

Well run curated bean shop in downtown Lansdale Borough. Multi angular bar setup with stools and smaller tables around the edges and rear rooms. Seems a hangout for some regulars, but a quick order and go for others (like me). My Chai Latte Skim Milk was ready in a few minutes and hit the spot. Sipped on the drive home, and again with an apple cider donut from the home kitchen. They went well together. Their in house roasted beans were tempting, but decided to wait on a bigger purchase until I was sure they knew what they were about with java and fire. Maybe next time. read more

This is a great spot to study and grab a drink or meet up with one or two people. I was disappointed by the latte I got which was presented so wonderfully. The espresso tasted burnt and bitter which my colleagues also tasted in their drinks. So I tried an iced tea which is always a safe bet. The snacks and cookies were tasty, but I expected more for the cost. However, the breakfast burrito with bacon (~$13) was large and fantastic! The friendly staff recommended I get the spicy salsa in the side and I think I'm a convert for this breakfast burrito. I would give the burrito five stars, but since this is a coffee place and I've had several coffees from there now, I was still disappointed. Perhaps next time it will be better. read more

The best around! At most coffee shops, the coffee is decent and the food is subpar. Backyard Beans takes it to the next level with having excellent coffee and espresso drinks (I usually get a latte or dark roast coffee) as well as delicious food options with locally sourced ingredients. Their Main Street sandwich is the best BEC around. And their house made hot sauce is so good I would buy bottles of it if I could!! Their pastries are also homemade and out of this world. My go to for years now and many more to come! read more

The food here is pricey and not that great of a selection. Nothing on the menu entices me but I will settle for what they have. The service is great every single time. They're so nice. It's a great place to study. They have a back room and it's quiet so it's a good work area. I don't recommend going to do work on a weekend as it's busy and not very quiet. But during the weekdays it's mostly quiet. I love their matcha latte it never disappoints. I also like how you can adjust the sweetness as desired. Nothing bad to say about this place at all. I love coming here even though I'm not a fan of the food but it's honestly not even a big deal. I wish they had parking I don't really mind walking from public parking places but it would be better if they had a parking lot because it's cold in the winter to walk back and forth. read more

I love the coffee here! I've been a few times while visiting family in the area. The coffee shop itself is cute and has a good bit of seating. It does get pretty crowded and people bring laptops to work, have meetings, or just catch ups. Come earlier to avoid a line and waiting. Even if there is a line it tends to go relatively fast. The staff is super nice and friendly. I love their seasonal coffees they are so fun and creative. I also recommend their breakfast it's very good. I like the breakfast burrito it's delicious!! This Saturday 5/9/20 I was in the mood for an iced latte and jug of stay home a-latte. Curbside order has been available. But today was their first Sat with drive thru. I pre-ordered curbside pickup at 10:14a & received an email notification that my order would be ready after 10:45a. I pulled up early (10:42a) and called anyway to notify them. My order came out at 11:25a. The guy that delivered it to my car apologized, explained the situation and was honest... they weren't prepared for today. For my wait, Backyard Beans threw in a gift card and coupon for my next visit. Much appreciated for being transparent with me and the comp gc/coupon! I think many businesses operating during quarantine are still finding the best way to handle daily operations. There will be some hiccups. I get it. I'm so glad Backyard Beans is in my backyard. This place is excellent! The coffee is always very good, with blends rotating as different coffees are harvested. A few years ago they roasted in the shop, but now they roast the coffee in their nearby roastery, which opened up more room for seating. They do both single origins and blends, which are all so tasty, and sell whole coffee beans to take home (they can grind it for you at purchase if you don't have a grinder at home). Specialty drinks are good as well, changed up to match the seasons with tasteful and unique flavors. I'm a bit of a traditionalist, and often go with an Americano, but love to sample their other drinks too. The food is great too...Lots of great breakfast sandwiches and delicious pastries. Portions are on the smaller side of just right. The cinnamon buns are worth the trip on their own, but of course should be consumed with coffee. And the vibe is very chill. The baristas are all very friendly and it's just a comfortable space to spend some time. The shop also gives away burlap bags the bulk green coffee ships in, which are great fun for coffee geeks like me. A must try if you find yourself in the area. Drink local! read more
