Instant bond with our server Carly - so much so that we left and decided to come back because the vibe was great as were the food and drink. For a busy Friday night we had some excellent service. In a potentially pretentious location the service was genuine and attentive. I tried the frozen mule (YUM - almost too good I drank it so quickly), and their large blueberry lavender mojito (Double Downer) - super tasty and I sipped it slowly enough to last! The WINGS!!!! I was really surprised their "bar menu" delivered. I legitimately couldn't put the wings down and I didn't even order them - I embarrassingly stole them from my friend's plate all night (worth it). This place is large, spacious and I think beyond the service the music was my favorite part. Super solid playlist - all the 90s, 00s, current goodies you want to hear while enjoying a drink. Update: 3/9/18. I came back with a big group for a Thursday happy hour and it was fun! The place had a decent size crowd this time but I'm glad it wasn't full because it allowed us to play connect four, shuffleboard, cornhole, and air hockey. There was also a special painting class going on that night which was fun to watch. Microbrew beers are $7 for a pint or $14 for a big 35oz mug. (No specials for HH) I still haven't tried the food but I'm going to upgrade my rating to 4-stars for the happy hour fun factor. There's a valet parking lot adjacent. Backyard is a casual bar and grill next to Bottled Blonde. I came with a group of friends after we decided we were not going to wait in line to get in next door. It's a huge place with fire pits, couches, TVs, and many games: cornhole (bags) setup on artificial turf, table tennis, and billiards. The place was mostly empty on a Friday night but it has a lot of potential if the food/service is decent and they can attract a good crowd. It was 1am so we only had one beer and left. I'd come back and try it again if parking isn't painful. 3-stars until I can experience it further. read more

I really hate to leave bad reviews but I know nothing will change unless someone says something. We came here for a private event as the company rented out the entire venue. We were one of the first 20 people and right from the very beginning I could tell there was a lack of management. I asked the front desk if the kitchen was open and they had to ask someone else. Then we sat down at a table and they said someone would come over but no one ever did. (There were less than 20 people inside before it got busy) Another woman came to check on us and apologized for the slow service. We ordered food and drinks with her and the food made it out before the drinks did (weird) but okay I understand with covid and everything going on maybe they didnt have their "A team" working I ordered a margarita and they do not know how to make drinks. A margarita is triple sec, tequila and lime. I don't know why there was seltzer water. Strange. My drink was almost clear (way too much triple sec) Food was very poor quality, bar food, not worth the price you pay. Patty melt was overcooked well done and the poutine was weird..had fried cheese curls. Definitely not a legitimate poutine. 2nd round decided to walk to the bar and try ordering a margarita from a different bartender. The bartenders dont know how to make drinks. You could tell they are not properly trained. She was nice but poured equal parts of triple sec and tequila and finished it with soda water. Disgusting. I couldn't even finish it. I was happy I didnt spend any money and used the drink tickets on it. Music WAY too loud you cant hear anything!! Overall the spot has potential but definitely needs more present management and re-training. Bartenders pours were WAY OFF and definitely wasting money. To the owner/manager: I watched so much liquor be over-poured if this was my bar every bartender would be fired. Owner/management needs to: 1) train bartenders how to pour, 2) simplify the food menu, focus on making a few good quality items 3) turn down the volume a little so people can actually have a conversation(especially since this was a private event) We left after using our drink tickets. My friend was basically jumped by 3 bouncers who tore his shirt and left him with multiple injuries. Also if you go down this list on Yelp, there will be many others that agree. This is an outdoor bar but inside ! Rain or shine, you can come to Backyard and have an entire picnic setting with a full bar a few feet away. This bar is dog friendly, so your pups can join in all the fun! There is turf grass for them to play on (they need to be leashes though). If the dogs are off the leash or too aggressive , they will he asked to leave. There are several games to play! Corn hole, air hockey, a huge jinga set, ping pong and more. There are picnic tables for you to sit but also leather couches if you are throwing a party! This place is great for groups celebrating any occasions. On Wednesday night, it is 1/2 whiskey night. I had a really good experience at this place. Which is actually pretty surprising. I believe some of the hostas are a little obnoxious, and snobby. One of my friends simply asked her how do we get a table and all she did was point to the people that were in front of the cash register, like you couldn't have said that nicely, very poor customer service on her part. However once we were able to get a table, a nice waitress walked us to our table, she literally gave us all of what we ordered in a timely manner, our food came out on time and actually kind of fast. The waitress periodically checked up on us even though it was pretty packed that night. Right now they are all wearing mask, if you were sitting down at a table you can take your mask off, if you walk around or decide to play a game, you need to wear your mask. They do enforce masks so that's great. Some of the waitresses are a little snobby, so get ready for them to get in your face about anything. This is a good place to go to play games, have a few drinks, nothing here is expensive at all, it's pretty affordable. For the food and the drinks, and a table for a party of more than six, I think our tab was 300. Which is pretty good for a pretty casual bar in Dallas. This place is casual, you don't have to dress up, just make sure you have your mask ready. Parking sucks though. read more

First off I want to say the service was top notch and that was because of Dee, from the moment when she first greeted us to the moment we were seated I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Backyard makes you feel like you are at a block party having a good time with the people you love while getting the best service ever. We came here for a friends birthday on a Friday night. We got here around 8 and wasn't crowded. By 10:30-11 there were lines to get in. Drinks were awesome. Vegas Bomb and Green Tea shots are $5 on Fridays which was fun. Food was better than you'd expect bar food to be. (Except their nachos are a little weird). Great music. Great atmosphere. I honestly do not like this place very much at all. I will say it's better than its neighbor Bottled Blonde, but that's not saying much. I mean the place is dog-friendly, love seeing all the cute dogs, they have different flavored Moscow Mules, like mango and blueberry and the food is actually pretty good. What makes this place so bad is the service. Specifically the bartenders. They're terrible at acknowledging patrons, they're rude, no personality and careless. Reminder...if you happen to keep your tab open, make sure before they run your card, check your tab. I went to close my tab and they charged me the wrong amount for two drinks and all I had was one! You don't make that mistake with people's money. I honestly don't even know if he cancelled the transaction with the wrong amount. He didn't give me a confirmation receipt. We shall see. If you must go here, get something to eat, something to drink, be prepared to yell all night, possibly lose your voice. The music is disrespectfully loud. Club loud, not bar loud. On a rainy Sunday, we couldn't take the dogs to the dog park as usual, but did want to have brunch. The challenge-finding a place in Lower Greenville or Deep Ellum with a covered dog friendly patio. Yelp search led us here. First, I love the concept. It a huge, covered, open air place with couches and picnic tables and games. I love the dog mural on the one big wall. Our waitress, Jordan, was great-attentive and sweet. Hubby and I split a Chihuahua burger (with arugula instead of shaved lettuce) and it was juicy, tasty and a bit spicy. We also enjoyed the $2 mimosas (until 1pm Sunday). But, there were some downsides. Many of the picnic table bench seats were warped and made you feel like you were going to fall over. It was pretty loud and not even crowded...I think I am definitely too old to want to be there if it was really busy. And the price point is just way too high for everything. A $14 burger with no sides (okay, there was a piece of watermelon, but I don't think that counts)...and all the prices were like that. This was not my favorite place. I was actually really disappointed. So first we called to ask if they would have the sound on for the Mavs game and were told yes they would. Once we got there, it was a huge run around for a table and took us a solid ten minutes to get seated and we asked the hostess again if the sound would be turned on for the game and she assured us it would as she sat us RIGHT next to the incredibly loud thumping bass of the DJ (at 2pm on a Sunday). We ordered appetizers and drinks and waited. Ten minutes into the game my eardrums are still getting blown out so I get up and find a manager and ask what's up. He tells me they don't do the sound even for the championship game because it just really kills the energy in there. The food was mediocre at best. Service clearly sucked considering they couldn't even tell us between the lot of them that we were signing up for a dance club instead of a sports event. I wouldn't recommend going to this place on a weekend unless you're in your early 20s and just looking to rage and party. For us grown folks, it was just a headache. read more

To be fair, it was definitely trying to be fun and I think if you were with a bigger group, it would have been funner but definitely an awkward spot for small parties. We came here on a Saturday night for a birthday. Don't be fooled by the line, it moves pretty fast. After waiting about 15 minutes, we were in. We did not have a reserved section, but it did not feel crowded at all so the crowd control and wait in line is worth it to keep the place free flowing. There was even a UFC fight that night and we were still able to play shuffleboard, Jenga, and cornhole without waiting long. Although there is only one bar, it moved quickly. There are 2 set of restrooms in the corners of the building. Again, I did not have to wait in line. See the theme here. I liked that in between the sports, a DJ would play music. We decided to try their food out on National Cheeseburger day and shared the Backyard Burger and an order of the Crispy Brussels Sprouts. The burger was good however a little too much on the rare side once you got towards the middle - so we suggest asking them to cook it a little longer if you like it more medium. Went here once for brunch. Loved it. Great environment. Came back tonight with my pup and the bouncer at the door said they have a private event tonight so no dogs allowed in the restaurant but we can use the rooftop and get full service there. He walked us up to the stairs, we went up and it was a ghost town. I went back down and told him no one has serviced us after 20min and he said "oh sorry let me get the manager". Five min later some guys from Bottle Blonde came up and said we aren't supposed to be up here and that their roof is closed. He was perplexed that someone let us up. Turns out the rooftop belongs to BB even though they have the same owner as backyard. Thanks for wasting our time. Your restaurant is basically made for dogs yet you had the whole thing closed off for one event and did not make an effort to update your social media to let the general public know. Came here this morning for my friend's birthday brunch, and even though there were only a handful of tables at the time we were there, our waitress disappeared for long periods or time, or just hung out with the large group of servers near the entrance and we weren't able to flag her down. After we were done eating, we sat for probably 20 minutes just chatting to pass the time before she came bounding over (like she forgot about our table) and hurriedly asked if we wanted our checks. Also the plates she brought us were DIRTY. I am a picky person and am pretty suspicious of most silverware/plates at restaurants, but everyone at the table agreed it was pretty gross. On one of them, there were chunks of sauce still on it. When I brought it up to our server, she agreed and said "Wow, that's disgusting." I had the Brunch Bird, a chicken breast biscuit with pickles and jam (tomato jam?). The jam was incredible, overall the whole sandwich was pretty decent. Chicken was fried well, a bit salty. Biscuit is really dense, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, considering it held together pretty well, which is ideal in a sandwich. Wish it came with a couple fries. My friend got the chicken and donut, which also tasted pretty good. Donuts are kind of stale consistency though :( These seem to be the two biggest hits of brunch. I'm excited to try more of their appetizers though, they seem like they might be the stars. Happy hour! Otherwise, vibe is awesome, especially if the weather is great. Uptown has now spread through Deep Ellum and Backyard is one of the latest establishment bringing in the crowd. I honestly don't know how I feel about it. Yes, the big crowds are back and Deep Ellum is once again as busy as it can be but I'm hoping it'll keep the Old Deep Ellum vibe alive. I noticed that bar service is fast and they kept the patrons moving especially, now that it's last call. The place is really nice and have that open space feel to it and would be perfect for when the weather is pretty. The huge patio is equipped with overhead heaters all over. I would come back to try their food on a much non busy day and maybe that will really conclude how I feel about Backyard. read more

This place seems like it would be relatively chill and fun during the day but beware of the experience at night. The crowd it attracts can be pretty rough and rude, even early on in the night. There were two fights that broke out here the night I went and security was not on top of it and no one was even escorted out. There are lots of tables but pretty much all will be reserved and need to be bought out for the weekend nights. There are a lot of games like corn hole, basketball, ping pong, etc that look like they'd be a lot of fun during the day, especially if you bring your pup since all the artwork in the place has to do with dogs! read more
