Our family enjoyed our visit to Backyard. The wings and carne asada tacos were amazing. Our waitress was attentive and very apologetic for the people sitting next to us. My wife had to go and complain to the manager. "Sports BAR"... means BAR not a romper room for kids. It was just so bad. Service was great, Michelle was wonderful but the food was just below average by a lot. We got a green goddess salad with carne asade ($25!!!) and it was the most expensive salad we've had. I wanted to love it, but it missed the mark. I thought there would be cornhole, but any yard game was removed. Honestly, that wasn't the biggest letdown. We were one of 6 tables filled in the place (and lots of workers, I didn't see our server working another table), and we had to continually wait for service - wait to have our order taken, wait for a refill on soda, wait for the bill. The burgers were mediocre. If the service was good or food was good, it would have offset the experience, but it just didn't deliver. The ambiance is really cute - it's a great fun lively place. Looks cool, but DONT BE FOOLED!!! I don't even have words right now. We came and requested to sit outside... partially because we have a five-year-old. To our delight they had outdoor toys like Jenga, connect four, etc. My son met some other kids to play with while we sat at a high top table and waited for our food. Just before our food arrived, the servers came out and started taking the toys away from the boys as they were playing. We approached them and asked if there was a problem. They tried to tell us that the boys were throwing the toys and playing inappropriately. My husband and I, who were sitting a few feet away from them, knew this wasn't true so we asked more questions. My husband and I take our kids behavior seriously and keep a close eye on them at all times, especially since we ourselves are both educators. The staff members continued to tell us that the kids were playing inappropriately and that they were not playing Jenga as it was supposed to be played. This was correct. The boys were not, they were playing with the toys imaginatively and acting like they were in a spaceship or a car however they never threw the toys or did anything disrespectful to the patrons around them as the women tried to claim. The "manager" then tried to tell me, when I objected to her false claims, that they needed the space for people that were arriving and that she was sorry that she said that and she was incorrect in her claims. I continued to press and say this was a family space and that it was intended for people to play in (as they had toys out there for them to do so), again they tried to tell me that the boys were playing inappropriately. The manager tried to apologize and tell me she was new and make excuses for the false accusations she made against the kids but at that point I was done. Don't try to say my kid has done something wrong. Review the video footage. It will clearly show that the kids did NOTHING wrong, and were playing like kids RESPECTFULLY in a family zone. DONT GO TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT IF YOU WANT A FAMILY ENVIRONMENT !!!! Sarah J, you should pay attention to the number of negative reviews lately, and use it to rethink your management approach. We sat at the bar & were immediately greeted. We had the turkey melt which was excellent with bacon, arugula, grilled red onion and Brie cheese, which made it absolutely delicious! I would like to start with I really really hope they are understaffed. Walked in today for lunch around noon. The hostess was there and then she wasn't. And a pretty large line formed, then once she finally came back, we were sat at a table near the bar, we sat there for at least 10 mins. Multiple servers walked past us, no one ever came to greet or acknowledge us, we finally decided to go eat somewhere else. It's unfortunate, they have a decent drink list. Had friends in town so went to check out this new spot. It was packed and I was grateful I made a reservation as we sat right away. The food was bar food but good. The drinks were the main star for sure. The tv options stole the show as the ncaa tournament was on and we were able to keep up with several games at once. We ordered a beer and espresso martini. Martini was on the sweet side. It took about 16 minutes after having empty drinks for a bartender to ask us if we wanted anything else. During the 16minutes a bartender actually took our empty glasses, but neglected to ask if we wanted anything. We ordered the potatoes skins even after reading some of other reviews. It was fairly disappointing. The turnaround time from Order to delivery was good. The cost was overpriced for what we got. The potato skins were flavorless and for less cost, we could have gotten something much better in quality and quantity at another local restaurant I'd recommend to the restaurant to either add spice to their meat or reduce the meat and add toppings like sour cream and bacon to improve it. This place has a lot Of potential with all the TVs for sports and things to do with family and friends. They had a live band playing. This is a dog friendly restaurant. Juliet did her best, but given the circumstances of the kitchen, being so far away from our table and even the bar was not an easy access for her. I was standing there for what it felt like a ver very long time before I decided to walk into the room next door which was there kitchen and ask w loud voice.... anyone here?? Then I walked to the bar to the right.... No one there. After a while a woman so far away saw me standing there but wouldn't come to the door so I called her with my arms I waved energetically, and that's when she came. Looking like annoyed and surprised I was there. She was not welcoming at all but instead made it look like I was an idiot and just said, "you can sit wherever you want"!! If that's the case Backyard, then why don't you just put a note saying that somewhere at the entry? I have no problem sitting anywhere but how am I supposed to know?!! I was coming with 12 people. Came to Backyard for St. Paddy's day and got lucky... lucky in the sense that we had great service at the bar thanks to Hailey who made great drinks, was very attentive, and lots of fun. On the other hand when we originally checked in with the hostess for a table she quoted us 20 minute wait, after 35 minutes we checked back in and were told we were second on the list behind reservations which made sense. Well 2.5 hours in total after eating and drinking at the bar we decided to leave. On the way out we asked to take our name off the list due to the crazy wait, the only response we got was an "okay", no apology for never being seated or taking responsibility for misquoting us originally. Setup is great. Has lots of potential. A few cornhole and giant connect 4 games. Lots of light and air and the walls all open via giant garage doors. Dog friendly. Cool environment for sure. But.... This place is new enough to have clean menus and tables. My son and I were given dirty menus and seated at a dirty table with dirty chairs. I used the menus to scrape (a fair amount of) food off of eachother and the table and chairs off. Ordered a coors light. Few minutes go by, they're out. Ok a miller lite. Few minutes. It's out too. I'll take anything on tap that's a light beer I said. Well we ate some basic nachos with really brown guacamole slapped on top center that we avoided and when we were done the server came by and finally brought the one drink I ordered almost an hour before. Had to go to the drug store for pepto an hour later too. Still sick to my stomach 5 hours later. No idea what happened to the nachos but either the cream or cheese sauce is spoiled or the beef was bad. To be fair the server was very nice and offered to comp the beer. I said thanks but declined. I mean, I did drink it. I paid. Tipped above average. Won't be back. I wouldn't have posted the review had I not had to go get stomach medicine after. These were not crazy nachos. Wasn't sure what to expect checking this place out for the first time, during a big game (ASU Peach Bowl). Our party arrived early and waited in line but was able to get seated before kickoff. The bars and dining areas were well staffed and management was floating around tables consistently. We didn't wait long at all for drinks! Maybe we lucked out with a great server based on some of the other reviews...? Food was a little slow but well worth the wait! We had an amazing experience there! The food was really good. The restaurants decor was super unique and it's just like you're sitting in your backyard . Taylor was our waitress and she was super sweet and kind. My sons pizza took way longer than expected and the manager was really nice about it and was extremely accommodating for the mess up.
