We came in for Sunday happy hour and the experience started off excellent. The atmosphere, drinks, and service were exactly what you want on a relaxed Sunday afternoon. Until about 3:30 PM, everything was a true 5-star experience. That changed when a gentleman who said his name was Matt arrived. From that moment on, the tone of the entire space shifted. Because he was the only man working out front, it was very easy to see who was responsible for the change in energy and service. We witnessed him speak rudely and dismissively to staff on multiple occasions, particularly toward female employees. What was most troubling was the clear sense of power and control in his interactions. At one point, a female staff member was about to grab us a drink, and he stopped her, telling her we needed to wait -- despite there being no apparent reason to do so. It felt unnecessary, uncomfortable, and inappropriate. Other patrons noticed as well. Conversations at the bar reflected shared discomfort, and we ultimately decided to leave early because the situation made the experience unpleasant. Every other employee working that day was wonderful -- friendly, professional, and clearly trying to provide great service. They deserve full recognition. Unfortunately, one individual, he said his name was Mat, brought the entire experience down from a 5-star visit to something we would not repeat. Barrio Brewing, this is something Human Resources should be aware of. The behavior we observed toward female staff was not acceptable and directly impacted guests. The ambiance was that of an airport lounge which makes sense given the location but did not have the energy you might be looking for in a brewery of this type. Excellent fresh beer options on tap, the Rojo ale was definitely a good choice. Food was what you would expect for a place like this. The brat was slightly overcooked on a dry bun but for the price point it really wasn't a major issue. Cool little spot tucked into the airport. Their IPAs are always great - I had a Citrazona and a Hipsterville. Ice cold and super tasty! Food was average, nothing to complain about but also nothing memorable. I got a southwest chicken panini with fries - kind of dry and probably would order something else if we came back. The prices are a bit more than they should be based on size of portions. We went for breakfast . . . small portions, potatoes out of a bag and no unique flavors. 3.5 stars... Decided to stay a bit more north this trip to the hot box, and Yelp led me here. No, you aren't lost... it's in an airport! Cool little joint, and don't worry about TSA, because there is none.. Raspberry wheat was the beer, and a Reuben was the grub... well seasoned pastrami and a firm kraut atop a thick bread, which in my opinion should have been on the flat top to get crusty. Served with fries, which had to be replaced...limpy! Great beer selection, though I only stayed for one. Ambiance is industrial layover, service was prompt and friendly, and prices were ok. Great aviation decor with a commanding view of aircraft operations at Deer Valley Airport. I work near Deer Valley Airport and when Barrio opened, we were all looking forward to another venue opening in the space. The previous restaurant had outstanding food and always had a good breakfast and lunch crowd. After several visits, we are totally disappointed and rarely go to eat there. The food is mediocre to OK and the service is pleasant but slow. We were hopeful that perhaps the place would improve, but after a number of months, we are going to give up eating there. read more

Planes, brews, and good food Barrio Brewing is Arizona's oldest brewery, founded in 1991 in Tucson. They have their main taproom restaurant in Tucson, another at Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport, and this month, they opened at the Deer Valley Airport in North Phoenix. There's lots of indoor seating, two tvs behind the bar, and a tabletop shuffleboard. Our favorite part is that they kept the model planes that hung in the previous restaurant. It's nostalgic, and kids love them. Currently, you can't take alcohol outside up on the deck, but hopefully, they'll get that license. Most of the seating has great views of the runway through the large windows anyways. I really enjoyed my Barrio bacon jam sliders with the upgrade to beer battered fries. Not that they needed it, but the sliders and fries were even better with the tasty buttermilk ranch. (If you're someone who judges by the ranch...this is a winner.) The kids' meals included an entree, side, and drink for only $7. They were good portions and my daughter was excited for "real" Mac and cheese that wasn't just kraft. Everything else was very reasonably priced, including the happy hour menu. Our bill for two adults and two kids was $72, including an appetizer, cocktail, and beer. That's a great price that's hard to come by when eating out nowadays. The food truly was fresh and very good, so the price was an added bonus. Our server Michael was also very friendly and attentive. After your meal, be sure to head outside and up to the deck. There are plastic tables and chairs under shade to watch the planes come and go. Speakers overhead let you listen to the tower communicating with the pilots. With the flight school on property, there is plenty of activity, and the kids love seeing "pilots" walk around. We have some great memories here over the years between awaiting Santa by helicopter and also building airplanes as a homeschool lesson years ago. Me and 13 other friends went here on a Friday evening. I had called in advance to let them know and they kindly reserved a table by the viewing window. HOWEVER, the owner made sure to inform me MULTIPLE time they wouldn't do separate checks for us. Did not give me very positive vibes before going in. The menu is nothing special, primarily sandwiches. My burger was ok although it was missing an I gradient listed on the menu, which they supplied after I asked. The waiter was amazing, super funny and since we were his only table, did a fantastic job of serving. Since this location is at the airport, you can look out into the operations, which can be interesting. The dining room is very nice. We were really impressed! The airplane decor is really cool and the views of the runway while you enjoy your meal are so impressive. Food and service were stellar! I had the Baja Fish Tacos which are made of pan-seared cod and are seriously incredible. So light and delicious! My husband had the pork carnitas which were equally impressive. Both are served with their homemade salsa and chips - salsa was slightly spicy and smoky - delish! Our daughter ordered the chicken tenders which were surprisingly AMAZING - step above what one might typically expect - super good! Our waitress, Shannon, was bubbly, fun, and attentive. This place is a true Arizona GEM and such a great concept for drinks/dining with free entertainment. I never thought I could enjoy an ice cold beer and a meal while watching airplanes take off and land right in front of me. It's also a kid approved place! We have finally found a place we can take the kids out to eat and they have something to interact with and have fun doing! Having a bite to eat and I was asked to leave. Why? Beats me. I have no idea. I wasn't talking with anyone; didn't have words with my server. Wasn't even on my cellphone talking with someone. I don't smoke, so that wasn't it. Hadn't had anything to drink prior that day and had taken a hot, steamy shower at least 5 hours before: my clothes were clean; I didn't smell bad; hadn't spoken with anyone other than the greeter and my server. Don't know what offended them, but clearly, something put a burr under someone's blanket. Was it how I was dressed? I had a clean navy-blue T-shirt on, one painted with an American flag on the front, dark, clean shirts, clean shoes. I was also wearing a bright red instructor's hat with a USAF A-7D patch on it... nothing too political about that, unless someone mistakes it for a MAGA hat. I said "please" and "thank you"... didn't say anything beyond what I wanted for my adult beverage and lunch. Anyway, I was asked to leave just after my order arrived. Put cash on the table -- no tip this time, though. I don't get it. I asked the server why I was being booted out, and she (?) said I'd have to ask the manager about that: I asked for the manager's name and phone number, and was told to send an email. Why not a phone call? Email the manager... who never responded. I called to talk to the owner, but was told to send an email. Of all the weirdest things in life... I'll never understand what happened. Maybe it was "Hate a Stocky, Tall, Muscular Man" Day. Maybe it was "Hate a Stocky, Old, Tall, Muscular Male" Day. Maybe it was "Crap on a White Man" Day. I dunno... One sip of my beverage, and a small bite taken from my sandwich -- then told to leave immediately... none of the normal courtesies. As long as I live, I'll never understand what happened. Whatever the reason, they could have stopped me at the front door and spared me the humiliation and embarrassment of being loudly demanded to leave, and I could have saved the $35 or so that I paid for the sip and bite. We visited for the first time tonight for a rare date night. We enjoyed the food, drinks, and the service was great. We arrived at 6:30, had our food by 7 and were planning on hanging out and having a couple beers before heading home. Unfortunately at 7:15 the staff began closing up and stacking the chairs on the tables where we were sitting. I understand if it is a slow night wanting to get things done before closing time, but it was pretty distracting and we felt like we were getting pushed out. To the staff, I would suggest holding off on stacking the chairs on the tables until closing time or at least until your guests have left that section. We will likely return but apparently 6:30 on a Saturday night is too late. read more

After several recommendations from family and friends, trying the new airport restaurant on a Saturday night was a last-minute decision. The renovations have turned this place into a bright and comfortable spot with the ongoing entertainment of the airplanes visible through the wall of windows. Perhaps reading the reviews first may have changed my expectations. After being seated by the windows and having our drink orders taken, I realized that every table in that area had at least one toddler and all of them were mobile. Staff was attempting to navigate food/drink trays while little boys zoomed cars along the floor and raced to look out the windows. It was very loud. The beer was really good. The limited menu is easily doable and pairs well with the beer. We ordered a dip which never came and my daughter requested no tomatoes on her sandwich but it had them. When questioned, the server said it was not on the ticket. We decided not to make a big fuss since considering the decibel level, she may not have heard us. The apologetic manager did offer to make us churros for dessert. Other than that, our sandwiches were large and tasty. I have had kids/grandkids and know how hard it is to find family-friendly places. When I looked at reviews, the first thing I noticed was about kid's birthday parties. I realize in these times, a business cannot turn anyone away, but little ones do not stay seated long. There is a secondary room; maybe it could be made even more kid-friendly and safer for other patrons and staff to cater to that particular group of patrons. After all, what child doesn't like airplanes? We will give it another shot but probably during the day. read more

Had a breakfast meeting for about 50 of us at the Barrio Restuarant and Brewing Co. recently. The setting is great and you can watch planes, mostly small, take off and land from the largest privately owned airport in the country. So, being that the setting was good, I cannot say much for the buffet breakfast that we all had. Water, coffee, iced tea or soda was available. The food was fried potatoes, paper thin pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs and sausage. The bacon appeared to have been fried then deposited into serving pans with all the grease and fat included, the bacon was swimming in it, none of it was crispy, it was all coated in grease. The sausages were a bit better, cooked crispy with only a bit of grease. The eggs were standard, just eggs scrambled and cooked. After eating what was offered, your plate was left with a pool of fat and grease, not very appealing. There was no toast, bread, rolls, fruit or anything else that would constitute and reasonable breakfast buffet. I should say, I do not know if this is what was contracted between the folks who put it together and the venue, so that may have been all that was paid for. I must say, looking at what was offered and how it was presented, it was one of the worst, most unappealing spreads of breakfast fool I have seen in quite awhile. I am sure ordering from the menu would be a better option, so I cannot give an opinion on the total menu or quality of food for Barrio, all I can do is comment on what I and we had. I found out that the cost of this was $25 per person....outrageous price for a totally subpar buffet read more

Our server was terrific but an appetizer plate was on the table that needed a rewash and a short toothpick was left in my husband's Sonoran dog which could have ended badly had he not sliced it. If you're expecting fancy, stick with the Scottsdale Airpark! The beer was good. The food, we were there for breakfast in a Sunday morning, was tasty! I had the Monte Cristo, browned to perfection, and flaky! The jam, raspberry, they could sell and I would buy it! My husband enjoyed the Rojo Chilaquiles. He would've liked it spicier. He said the coffee wasn't bad. Our waiter/ bartender, Austin. He was on fire! Don't mistake his energy for anything but that. He knew the menu, was attentive, but not irritating. He works long hours. We were excited to check the Phoenix location out since we loved the one in Tucson. We were very disappointed; the service was slow and took forever for us to get our beers. Once we got our 1st round of beers and ordered our food now that is a whole other story. Beers yes were good; food maybe could have been good. We ordered some wings assuming they would come as an appetizer, well we were wrong they came with our meal, which everything but one sandwich was cold. The Sonoran Dog was soggy and cold from sitting in the kitchen too long, the fish n' chips were lukewarm, the Southwest Chicken Panini was actually hot, but extremely dry. We ordered a Southwestern Burger, but it never came out. Instead one of our party members was given the wings and no burger. The sad part is that the server asked what kind of fries he wanted with his burger and then told us we never ordered a burger and thought it was just fries as a side which was not the case but even if it was they never came either. So while we were all eating our cold food waiting for the burger that they cooked well done. (they never asked us how we wanted the burger cooked) We did order another round of beers, after 20min we had to flag someone down to see if they were coming. Yet again no one knew anything about it. Needless to say the burger was not eaten. They did take it off our bill, but when the manager asked us how things were we told her not great.
