A nice bar and dining restaurant with a big screen TV or the big games. the bar food was excellent including the Italian beef sandwich and this place is decent enough for a return visit although its location and lo is pretty generic and simple enough. Brought out French onion soup-cheese on top was burnt black. The fact that the cook and waitress thought it was ok was very irritating. When I looked at the waitress and pointed to the black cheese her response was "what?". NY strip was well done even though it was ordered medium rare. We have continued to go here always hoping things would get better... they don't. The owner never thanks us or talks to us unless something is wrong then he makes you feel like it's no big deal. Flyers in the mail states 13.50 for NY Strip and shrimp dinner. When you get there, it's 14.00. Response? It's probably too expensive to have them changed. We paid 14 because they wouldn't honor the flyer I got this week in the mail. Waitress asks if everything is ok as she walks away. I won't be coming back, this place used to be good but tonight it was not. The food was nasty, I wish we would have left. I had the philly cheese steak and the onion rings. ICK on both of these. The philly cheese steak sandwich a joke. It was some kind of lunch meat that simulated roast beef on a stale bun covered a few pieces of raw green pepper and onion, had a gob of liquid cheddar cheese poured on it and microwaved until it was a soggy mess, nothing grilled at all. Served steaming hot just like you would expect after 5 minutes in a commercial microwave. I sent it back and they put it on another stale bun. Wonderful. The onion rings were not to great either and very greasy. Hard to mess up bar food but tonight was a $36 mistake. Much better choices nearby. read more

Had a hankering for bbq. I had the grilled pork chop. It was excellent! Had a wonderful light smoked flavor and was perfectly cooked. Baked beans and onion rings were yummy and homemade. The service was good and all the staff was very polite. Good prices and a large menu selection. Will definitely go back again! read more

My family ended up going there because of a disagreement on where to go to dinner. We had never gone there so it was decided it was neutral. Ended up being the best fight ever just because we found this place. The food was amazing. The fries, the burgers...Even my daughter's grilled cheese. The waitress, Ashley, was literally as nice as possible. She was just phenomenal. She even brought us a dessert that was rang up accidentally. Ordered the Friday fish special- the choices were baked cod or all-you-can-eat fried cod. I chose the baked. The portion was so small that I called the waitress over and asked where the rest of my meal was. I got the standard answer-- "that's the way it is". Always great service. The owner really tries to make sure you are well taken care of. You won't know he's the owner until you go a few times and recognize his friendly face when he comes to the table to see how you are doing. My son loves the pizza, steak fries, and the ice cream and he eats for $1 on Tuesdays :) we've had burgers, steaks, chicken fingers and have not been disappointed. My aunt from out of town came with me once, she said that the French onion soup was as good as they said it was. Also, love the bread that comes premeal. Just a good backyard grill, good prices, good daily specials. Never have any problems bringing kids here, and we don't drink so I cannot comment on the bar. drove to rockford to watch a drum corp show and stopped at backyard grill for dinner with my husband and sister-in-law. this place is a blast from the 80's past! but i'm not criticizing the color of their walls - i'm a foodie not a judge on design star. i ordered the mushroom and swiss burger and onion rings which was surprisingly delicious. you can tell the onion rings were not from frozen onion rings by the fresh taste of their beer batter. my burger was prepared just right. and service was very friendly and attentive. read more

We ordered the Fried Fish dinner and onion ring appetizer. The onion rings came out far under cooked, very blaaaah. Then came the "all-you-can-eat" fish dinner. I could smell fish as I attempted the first bite; I'm not suppose to smell that kind of fishy smell when eating fried fish, am I? I moved to the cole slaw...omg...it must have been last months cole slaw! If all this wasn't bad enough; my beer glass sit there empty, as I needed to wash away the obsurdity I had just violated my taste buds with; the server passed by without even offering a refill!! I have NEVER left a resteraunt without tipping generously. Tonight I did. I have also NEVER left a restaraunt with the iverwhelming urge to go home and brush my teeth.
