C is for Chantilly, VA I went here one beautiful sunny Friday on May 13, 2016 for a Meetup group happy hour event. I ate the quesadilla, which was decent (nothing to write home about either), but it took a long time for it to come out. The patio area was nice & spacious. This is a good place for a drink but not for the food. Also, I remember I was talking to this one chick who lived in BFE aka New Baltimore (east side of Fauquier County), and we had a nice conversation. The organizer of the group knew her and asked her to come over there. She said she would come back. Well, guess what? She never came back! On a positive note, on this beautiful day two years ago, I made a friend here who I had met one or two times before, but I talked to him more here. He had a lot of insight, but said that the female organizer of the group essentially c***blocked me, which is what she does if she senses that a guy is talking too long or whatever. I very much enjoyed this establishment. Prices are low for a relatively expensive area. Their philly cheesesteak with whiz is awesome. I totally recommend that with a good beer. My girl got the teriyaki salmon. That was a bit small for the price but the mashed potatoes were awesome. We stopped here on the way to the airport to grab a late lunch. The food was delicious. I had a Backyard roasted salad with salmon. I highly recommend it. We'd give a zero star if we could. We DO NOT recommend this place. What we experienced yesterday was beyond belief. An unmasked waiter came to take our order. He admonished us for wearing masks and said something about Chinese spewing lies. All that food was at a very reasonable price. I think it was like $14. If you get the same dish on a different night, it would be around $24. The steak was cooked just right. The vegetables were a bit too buttery for my taste but it was okay. We also ordered the chicken quesadilla from the kids menu and it was huge portions. Only have of it was eaten up. I was impressed to see how much food was provided. The waitress was nice and waited patiently for us as we took a while to order our meal but by the end of our meal, she was no place to be found. The restaurant was not very busy at all so we were puzzled as to why we weren't able to locate her. I frequent this place for lunch, drinks, and sporting events. Lots of TV's to watch your favorite team. The bartenders are very friendly and helpful. On top of this, the food is remarkably good. Outstanding babyback ribs, handheld sandwiches, and salads. The only drawback to this place is that they allow a couple of bad apples who are always intoxicated to remain there a bit too long. The dinner we have were pretty good. Service is prompt and attentive. The manager even came by a few times to see if we were okay. We had chicken quesadilla as appetizer , burger and prime rib for dinner. The burger was good and tasty, the prime rib was tender, however, the seasoning was uneven, some part was well seasoned and some part was bland, the same for the mashed potatoes served with the prime rib. I hope the chef can season the food evenly, to improve the over all quality of the food. Second visit today, much improved prime rib, seasoning just right for the whole plate this time. Tuna sashimi is more like sesame tuna salad, it is pretty good, but it was not what we expected. We had combo fajita this time, the taste is good, but shrimp is a bit overcooked. My family and I stopped in today being new to the area and sampling local restaurants. We all got sick. The floors were dirty and there was clearly growth on floor side of bar. We ordered the sampler and mozz sticks which is mostly fried food and should be safe. the ranch side was warm and spoiled. The wings tasted like someone had just put hand sanitizer on before tossing them in Buffalo sauce. Our server left a lot to be desired as well. He was rude and short like we were inconveniencing him by being there outside normal meal hours. He took our order, delivered our food and never checked on us again. Burger #2 was waaaaaay overcooked (was supposed to be medium rare) and lacked all the toppings requested. Largely tasteless - I didn't finish it and threw away what remained. Finally, the onion rings were tasty, but we only received six rings. That's over $1/ring. Not alot of bang for the buck here - would definitely not order these again. Overall, not so great. So we headed over there to check out the food. The initial experience was okay. I had mentioned that I had a $25 certificate. They were cool with me using it, but then told me that I could not use it towards their daily special (steak). That bummed me out. After we ordered, our waitress mentioned that her manager approved of us using the $25 certificate for part of our order, while getting two of our three steaks discounted. I guess our order was pretty sizable. My family loved the steaks they ordered! Perfectly cooked to their desired pinkness. I had the chicken fajitas. The dish was great and delicious. My son had the chicken quesadillas, and he really enjoyed it since he ate like half of it. One small complaint. Even though the place didn't look very busy, our waitress was missing a lot. My glass was dirty on the inside, definitely not cleaned. Next thing to go wrong was how long it took for the food to come out. It seems like a lot of business professionals come here for lunch and it was not busy so I don't understand why it took so long to come out. Fortunately the food was good. I got the ka pow shrimp tacos. 3 tacos for $13 was definitely overpriced, something I wouldn't have minded if the service and cleanliness was better. The waiter also disappeared for long periods and when we asked for the check, he brought them out and left them on a table behind us and disappeared again for another 10min. Saving 15% from checking in was not worth it. I definitely don't see myself going out of my way to eat here again, maybe grab a beer and watch a game but I can't imagine what service is like when it's busy when it's so bad when they are slow. I think I watched all the characters on stage at a Jerry Springer show suddenly get up and start grinding on each other. When a couple of loner 55-60 year-old white guys creepily tried to get in on a booty-dance "sandwich" set to gangsta rap music, I just had to pull out the camera phone. Naturally. It was dark and the few pictures turned out crappy, so I put the phone away. Suddenly, a random girl came angrily over to our table and copped an attitude with me, saying she was going to kick me out for taking videos of HER to put up on YouTube. I said I was not and asked her if she worked there. She went off in a huff to a bouncer/manager, who came over and told us to not take any more videos or pictures; however, because of the lack of signs, they sure as hell weren't deleting what I had already taken. I also looked around and made sure I wasn't a) in a strip club, or b) back in eastern Europe at some sketchy club with angry Russian bouncers and a "FACE CONTROL" sign on the door. Nope, still a sports bar in Chantilly. Moral of the story: if you're going to be ashamed of something, DON'T do it. Not only was the girl ashamed of herself, but so are the people running the place. They obviously don't want word getting out what it's really like on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights (their feature nights, by the way, on their website) so that you too are duped into checking out the place. They don't follow Covid bar protocol. People sit shoulder to shoulder with no intervention. Never in my entire life have I seen an off duty bartender get drunk and extort guests to leave 90% tips. I guess you see something new everyday huh Message to the owner, you may want to talk to your staff about the drinking policy and how they conduct themselves. Never in any situation should your staff be walking around demanding people tip a certain amount. To go over to someone and tell them 20+% isn't enough and then they personally write in their own amount is beyond appalling. Located next to CVS, Backyard Grill stays open the latest on the weekend compared to other bars in the area. Which is the ONLY reason I come here, I promise. I have found that the later you visit Backyard Grill, the better. It's always fun to see drunk girls dancing and flirting with men. Drunk girls humiliating themselves in public is my idea of a good time. On Saturday nights, they have a live band and a DJ. The DJ tends to get more patrons but I actually enjoyed listening to the live band as I made my journey to the restroom. I have always known the drinks to be decent in taste and price. As for the food, it's a bar. Nothing to write home about. But if you are trying to soak up the alcohol, I would go for the chicken wings. read more
