Been wanting to try this spot since my move to Herndon and had my first taste of Sully's on 7/18, walked in and was immediately drawn by the very hometown local feel of the place. Greeted by the female bartender right away as we settled in. Ordered 2 draft beers for happy hour and the buffalo chicken dip and steak and cheese eggrolls. I cannot say enough good things about the food! The portions are generous, the pricing(even off happy hour) are very inline with the portion size and most of all the TASTE!! The buffalo dip has a plentiful amount of chicken and just the right amount of heat. The eggrolls were perfectly cooked and just the right amount of Philly! I had a cup of chili, which was AMAZING and obviously housemade. I returned to Sullys on 7/26 and again had the buffalo dip, it wasn't a one off! The portion and taste were there! So consistency is not a problem with this hidden gems kitchen staff! Again I had the chili, it is, for me at least, the sirens song that lures me to Sullys. My friend has the cheesesteak with whiz, it was HUGE and from what I could tell between his bites, delicious. For me it was the tater tots I kept stealing off his plate. This is now my favorite restaurant/bar in the NOVA area. The food is amazing with a nice dive bar charm. I actually went here in back to back days which demonstrates how much I liked my first venture. To start, I ordered the buffalo chicken dip. this was absolutely scrumptious and enough for about four people to eat their fill. I would recommend getting the mix of chips and bread foe the dip. You can't go wrong with this creamy concoction. For my main course, I got the Surf and Turf Mac and Cheesesteak. This will definitely be my staple for whenever I go back. The shrimp was fresh and the Mac on top added a gooey yuminess to the cheesesteak. Fries or tots as a side - they are both good. I also ordered (on my second trip) the Buffalo chicken sliders. I wasn't too hungry so was looking for some more light fare. This was the perfect choice. Three flavor packed sliders with a side of fries accomplished exactly what I was looking for. It was also a good balance of BBQ sauce to chicken for each slider. In all, this is a hidden gem in Herndon. It gives off a dive bar atmosphere but has a hipster like food menu that really can't be beat anywhere else in the area. read more

Don't let my lack of check-ins fool you: I have been here MANY times. One of my best friends lives within walking distance of this pub so it's our usual Saturday night hangout spot. While there are other nearby bars, we mostly like this one for its great menu, excellent rotating draft beer selection, and general affordability. The fact that it is usually pretty quiet and reasonably priced makes it even better. The bar staff are generally pleasant and attentive to our needs when it isn't too busy, though I am a bit surprised they haven't acknowledged us as "regulars" yet (perhaps they don't like us much, haha). This place has excellent wings, sandwiches, and other assorted bar food, and the locals must know this as I see them handing off many delivery orders every night. The rotating drafts are quite good no matter whether you are looking for a Miller Light or a locally-produced craft golden ale. They have plenty of parking around the back, though I cannot say much else about that element since I usually walk here. Prices are reasonable for what you get, and their Reuben is absolutely fantastic if you're looking for an easy pick for dinner. One issue with coming on Saturdays is the live music. "But wait, live music is a good thing!", I hear you say. It's only good if it inspires a lively atmosphere and still allows you to enjoy yourself and the company of your friends. The DJs who set up here think that cranking up the volume is a substitute for uninspired choice of music and the bar being mostly empty. If the energy level of the place is going to be low either way and there's never any dancing going on, it's honestly just better to not have music so patrons can at least hear each other talk. It gets pretty deafening even at the table furthest from the DJ, so I can only imagine the hearing loss inflicted on those right next to the speakers. They have a digital jukebox, that's more than enough for a small-ish bar in my opinion. My friend and I will continue keeping this place as our hangout spot for the foreseeable future, though I do recommend checking out the other bars on the street for some variety. If you want some more energy and dancing, Jimmy's across the street is a good bet, and if you're a craft beer fanatic then Aslin Beer Company down the street would be worth checking out too. I still like Sully's, though! Overall: 4.0 stars ----- Pros: - Great bar food. - Excellent rotating draft beer selection. - Prices are reasonable for what you get (and apparently they give you your first delivery order with no delivery fee if you like that sort of thing). - Pleasant (if distant) staff. - Lots of free parking in the back. Cons: - In order for live music to be enjoyable it has to be: 1) good, 2) not deafening, 3) able to inspire energy in its listeners. Went yesterday (sunday) at noon to sully's for brunch and to enjoy the dolphins game. My girlfriend and i sat the bar because we couldn't see any waiters and there was just the bartender, so we were trying to make it easier for him. He then proceeded to take a good 5 mins to even approach us, then all he did was ask if we knew what we wanted. After we ordered some mimosas, he took another 10 minutes to eventually bring us the regular lunch menu saying brunch had ended. It was just a very off putting experience, and it seemed like customers were just not wanted at the time. The bar was empty, not busy, so I'm not sure what the point of the bartender being stand-offish. Just seemed like they wanted to not serve brunch anymore. Or they didn't want anyone in there at all. I'm not sure but i don't know if thats the best idea for an already struggling bar. The menu he handed us even clearly states brunch is from 10 am-1 pm on "football sundays". Oh well. As a dolphins fan i had to walk over to jimmy's (a bills bar) and ask them to show the game. They greeted my girlfriend and I warmly and it was just a much better overall experience. If you don't think it's dirty after your experience like I did, just check out their health scores and past violations. The upside of this place is that the service is very friendly and they have a decent selection of beers. Though the server didn't know what kind of beer the house beer was and also thought a lager was a "lagger". The place was empty and our table was pretty dirty. The food was awful. The fried deviled eggs tasted like they'd been fried in old oil. I've had some amazing scotch eggs and these were the worst I've ever had. The blackened chicken tacos were bland and just horrible. They literally didn't have any blackened seasoning on them? The fried chicken sandwich wasn't even good and that's hard to do. It lacked any seasoning. The burger was over cooked and had no flavor either. It's weird that these are all basic bar food items and yet they were all somehow horrible. Poor girls was so overworked there were at least 8 tables and she was by herself. I felt sorry for her. Lunch was awesome, hubby came here for lunch and got Ruben Eggrolls and sliders. Wonderful. He loved the atmosphere and the bartender so much he wanted dinner here. Completely different. He said the Buffalo Potato Skins were bland. Actually there were a "neat concept but poor execution." I had gotten the Pot Stickers which were extremely under-cooked, still cold on the inside and the dipping sauce was EXTREMELY hot. The good things are atmosphere, food, and beer selection. What really irked me though is that the price of the beer isn't listed. It's $10 for a pint. Or I should say "pint." A pint is a mathematical measurement of 16 fluid ounces, but they serve about 13 ounces. If you are serving beer in a 16 oz. glass, that's the amount of liquid that can fit in the glass TO THE BRIM. If you aren't selling "a pint" then simply say so that customers can make an informed decision. It's not just pretty pricy, it's really pricy. Across the street is a brewery where you can get 12 oz. for $7 which I still think is a rip off. So do with that information what you will. read more

I got takeout from Sully's a few months back, and my order was wrong. Props to the manager when I reached out, who sent me a gift certificate (though I've never used it since I only order delivery thus far). I love that tots are an option. Their cheesesteak I've had a few times and was good, though not on the level of Rai's (who I understand is the same ownership). Their fried deviled eggs are maybe my fav item, though they are heavy so you gotta be in the mood for a little heft. Burgers I've had a couple times and they were ok, but not on par with some others local favs like Big Buns or a few others. Tonight I had my least favorite thus far, which would be the Fish & Chips. I subbed tots, so no complaint there (I like their tots).. But the fish should have been 50-100% thicker, and the breading beer-battered. It was more like overly-crunchy, overly-salty chicken nugget batter. The best fish & chips have thick, supple fish, this was way too much breading-to-fish ratio, I only ate one of the two fillets and couldn't put down the second. This is Herndon's best local watering hole. They have tasty, stiff drinks that are very inexpensive during Happy Hour. Serving sizes for meals and appetizers are generous and the food is tasty. The menu is actually fairly extensive. We especially enjoy the deviled eggs and the club sandwich. On a nice summer day this is a great place to stop by to wet your whistle and grab a bit. read more

The worst thing though is at night the DJ plays music that is so loud, even at the furthest table away from his speakers, you have to yell to be able to have a conversation. Half of the bar becomes a beer bong competition where they beg you to participate multiple times because too few people want to join but they still ruin half the bar for it.
