The fried chicken was the star--served hot and fresh, perfectly crispy on the outside, and incredibly juicy on the inside. Just good, classic Southern fried chicken done right. The sides were great, but the fried green tomatoes are a MUST. They were fresh, crispy, flavorful, and had the perfect crunch without being greasy. This was also my first time ever trying chess pie, and WOW! It was absolutely to die for--rich, sweet, buttery, and the perfect ending to the meal. The service was friendly and welcoming, and everything came out fresh. Sometimes the best food spots are the ones you just happen to stumble upon. Great fried chicken, delicious sides, amazing chess pie, and friendly service. Definitely a 5-star New Orleans stop!

Well I visited and MAN did I enjoy the spicy fried chicken. The crunchy exterior, juicy meat and hearty sides following by a slice of perfect pie washed down by a beverage of your choose your choice-choo-choosing makes it evident why the chicken crossed the road- to get to Gus's You order at the counter and in my case, take a seat and enjoy one of the many tables in an open seating area it lens itself from one person table, top to multiple people in larger parties. You sit and chill and it's brought out to your table which I think is a nice touch of customer service. What happens next is nothing short of Magic. This isn't Gus's county, famous or city, famous municipality, famous state, famous, or even region famous chicken: it's Gus's world famous fried chicken.

We were 2 people, we ordered the Jambalaya Pasta that was absolutely delicious and the hummus. I personally didn't really like the hummus I like it made differently, it wasn't bad just not to my liking. I had the market salad and added chicken breast to it. The only thing that was annoying was the chicken was flavorless and dry. Thankfully the salad itself was so good and I was so hungry and needed the protein I just let it slide. I'd give it 3.5 stars just because of the chicken

We got our food probably 30 minutes after ordering despite being one of maybe three groups inside. The food was super yummy and fresh. The poke bowl was especially good and super flavorful. I loved the mushrooms in the rice and the avocado smear on the bowl really added a lot of flavor. Because the food was so good we gave True Food a second chance a few days later. This time they had enough waiters, but our food took over 50 minutes to come out after ordering. One of our plates even came out about 15 minutes after the rest of our food (which they comped). Not quite sure what the breakdown was and it's a bummer because they do have very healthy and flavorful food but the wait time made our experience pretty unpleasant.

There was only one guy behind the counter and he was nice. I got their fried chicken, tenders, and dirty rice with a biscuit and one of their daiquiris as well. The fired chicken was very crispy and spicy but was dry inside .It was seasoned very well. My biscuit, tenders, and rice was good. The daquiri was just okay and tasted more like koolaid than anything alcoholic.

Their chicken is spicy y'all, and I hear a lot of complaints about this, so be forewarned that spicy is the only love language they serve on their bone-in and tender chicken pieces. Their chicken burger is nice, but it's just a few tenders out inside a bun - would rather see a full size chicken piece to pair with their excellent burger buns. But... after trying a few different menu items, I'm going to keep going back to getting a 3 piece, biscuit upgrade, witha side of red beans and rice - every time! They just do it right. I haven't had the guts to pair a meal with a daiquiri yet, but all of their desserts are fantastic and too hard to pass up! The ooey-gooey bars, banana pudding, and their giant chocolate chip cookie hit all the high points. I can't wait to try their chocolate pudding, it's next on my list. My only complaint is trying to get there before they close, 3pm on Sundays and 7:30pm early in the week. Thankfully they're open till 9pm Friday and Saturday! Just come hungry!

Old Style Hot Tamales 2004 1/2 Claire Avenue…read moreGretna, La 70053-4448 I had been asking around inquiring about who was one of the best tamale makers in greater New Orleans and statewide. Well 4 out of every 5 said, Old Style Hot Tamales. I called them because I was needing quite a few for an event coming up in a few days. I spoke with the youngest of the children of the Buwes, who built this dynasty. I told Don Buwe about the feed back from my inquiry and told him what I needed, and when I would need them. Don Buwe said let me check, I'll call you back with availability, Hence , I placed my order. It arrived a couple Of days later as I requested, I tasted the product and I can honestly say, " these are the best Hot Tamales I have ever eaten". They were the right size, the right amount of spice, the right amount of meat, and the flour/Mesa was unlike any I've ever tasted. There was a buttery taste, and the gravy was a beautiful brownish red, nat'ually Nu' Awlins y'all, just the right weight for the tamales to soak in, uh huh. Oooh mah gawd,! I think my mouth turned into a tamale conveyor belt! The matriarch and the late patriarch of this company needs to be given the congressional Metal for their Hot Tamale Product. Every event I have in the future will be an Old Style Hot Tamale theme. Dat's right, it's my pawdy and I'll serve Old Style Hot Tamales if I want to. The Buwes have several stands, the website has the locations. You can call and place orders for pick up fresh out of the pot. The Buwes tamales under the same name Old Style Hot Tamales are sold in our local markets. All calls are turned in ample time. If you have a big order call and see if you can be accommodated. This is a family that goes back many decades with a nat'ually nu'awlins product. I met Don and his mother and I was totally delighted. They feel the heartbeat of Louisiana in every way. They have made big changes having the tamale stands accessible for every one since Covid-19. Let's keep these Old Style Hot Tamales thriving, they are uhmmmmm uhmmmmmm good y'all. This is "MO" checking out, be mindful, prayerful and tamale y'all! I will follow up with pics this week.
