My group and I came here twice during our visit. The first time, they had two servers total who were also training new hires so the service took quite a long time. We got our food probably 30 minutes after ordering despite being one of maybe three groups inside. The food was super yummy and fresh. The poke bowl was especially good and super flavorful. I loved the mushrooms in the rice and the avocado smear on the bowl really added a lot of flavor. Because the food was so good we gave True Food a second chance a few days later. This time they had enough waiters, but our food took over 50 minutes to come out after ordering. One of our plates even came out about 15 minutes after the rest of our food (which they comped). Not quite sure what the breakdown was and it's a bummer because they do have very healthy and flavorful food but the wait time made our experience pretty unpleasant. read more

We dined twice here while visiting for a conference. Two very difference experiences. Day one - we arrived right at opening, we were seated quickly and waiting on without delay. Our lunch was incredible and the only complaint was about a couple of items that were not available on the menu. It was so delicious we went back on the second day. Day two - we arrived at the height of a busy lunch service, we were allowed to order to go but sat at a table, the hostess was challenging to work with, and it took nearly an hour to get two entrees to go. Had that been our day one experience, we would not have returned. Day one - Tuna poke was incredibly well seasoned and very flavorful and fresh. Lemon chicken wrap was not as well dressed as the kale salad, so I would recommend something else over the wrap. The tulsi tea was a true delight- so fresh and unique and warming. As a tea lover, I would go back just for that. At opening time, when not busy. Our server was attentive but not overbearing, and we wanted for nothing. Day two - Subsituted salmon for tuna on the tuna poke but was charged as though we got both salmon and tuna. Hostess was insistent to the point of being offended we had tipped on the charge card and not in cash as she does not receive charge tips but had taken our to go order. Lavender matcha latte was delicious, and the O.G was full of bright, fresh flavor. To go condiments and sauces for our order were well packaged , to the extent we struggled to figure out what condiments were on the poke versus the Chinese chicken salad. True food kitchen is beautiful. It's a great place to sit in. The ambience is amazing. It's a awesome place. I would take a meeting with someone but unfortunately the service and the food disappointment went for lunch with my dad and tried the air fried chicken. I had a weird consistency as if it was processed or premade which goes against what true food does so it seemed weird. We also had two side salads which were OK, but one of the salads had roasted carrots in them, but some were so big and that you had to cut with a knife and we're still hard but some pieces really soft, which made it interesting while eating. But I think what made the lunch. The worst wasn't even the food. It was a service. There was only one waitress working in the dining room and she seemed to be training someone which is completely understandable but we waited for 15 minutes to get our check after we asked two people. Can we get to go cups and a check and they told us they couldn't do that which came across as bad service because if you're only server being slammed, you can't even accommodate the tables with to go cups while she's printing our check. Came in for lunch around 1:30pm the place wasn't too busy and it's big enough so no problem. I came over right after the gym and was starving. We were 2 people, we ordered the Jambalaya Pasta that was absolutely delicious and the hummus. I personally didn't really like the hummus I like it made differently, it wasn't bad just not to my liking. I had the market salad and added chicken breast to it. The only thing that was annoying was the chicken was flavorless and dry. Thankfully the salad itself was so good and I was so hungry and needed the protein I just let it slide. The ambiance is very nice! I like the gluten free options. However, during Mardi Gras it's kinda crazy and you can't get good service! I had the gf pizza. It was very flat and not very filling! It had some sort of red pepper topping. I have a pepper allergy so I didn't appreciate that! There was no tomato sauce on it. So it's more like a spinach and mushroom sandwich. I think this place is great in theory but a bit overhyped. It is pricey but that's expected for quality ingredients. I've ordered twice here and it's just ok. I had a turkey burger prior and it was pretty but kind of tasteless. Today I ordered a margarita pizza. It was decent and I could count the 6 pieces of large basil on it. The good part was the tomato sauce was cooked well and wasn't overly acidic. The Brussels sprouts were also just ok. They weren't crispy like I expected and used a tad bit too much soy for my liking. I think the weirdest thing was I ordered an adaptogenic tulsi tea and I guess they didn't have any so they sent salad instead. I'm not sure how that's comparable but ok. read more

Came to the city for a date night and was looking for places that had good Gluten Free options on the menu. After doing a little research we came across this place and - I have to say - it did not disappoint at all. We were greeted at the door by Holly who was our server for the night and did a great job of taking care of us all evening. The atmosphere was what I would call "Industrial Chic" with lots of space and as a result, not noisy and it actually felt very intimate. For appetizers we had the Roasted Brussels Sprouts and the Butternut Squash Soup. The Brussels were very well done and the soup was thick, creamy, and had a delightful sweetness to it. Easily could have been a dessert. For the mains we had a Chicken Parmagiana and a Thai Peanut Noodle Bowl - both very nicely done. And the portion sizes were very generous - both of us brought plenty home for the next day. For dessert we had the Flourless Chocolate Torte Cake with Vanilla ice cream that had a crunchy, almond, caramel business going on for the topping. Just delicious and also glad we split it! I took my mom here for her last meal in the city. She's usually not able to eat out as she is allergic to *everything* so I thought this would be a good bet to find her a salad. I had passed it many times, and always wondered why it was so empty. Thought maybe it was the location or that NOLA folks aren't into healthy stuff. To start, the place is stylish. Their interior decorator knows their stuff, because the whole vibe is sleek and modern and highly instagramable with a limited palette of greens and beige and a fabulously artistic collage against the back wall. The staff are nice, too. They were helpful and attentive throughout our meal. Now, the food... The first thing you notice is that the prices are kinda crazy. I paid 22 dollars for a double veggie cheeseburger with a small side of sweet potato home fries. My mom's salad was like 17 dollars and there wasn't much to it since she had to have most things omitted due to allergies (not their fault, but definitely steep for spring mix). It took a while for our food to arrive, and when it did, I was not just underwhelmed, but confused. My burger was a nice big size with two patties, but the lettuce... how can one even describe it? It reminded me not of greens or any other vegetable, but of fabric or perhaps a used coffee filter, in texture. It was completely and utterly limp (see picture for reference). I hate to be that person, but I called over a server and asked them to replace it. We requested salt too, as there was none on the table or in the food. They took away my plate (unnecessary, they could have just brought me a new leaf) and eventually brought it back with a very scant amount of new lettuce--mostly rind--but at least it was crisp. The salt shaker they brought was literally empty so we had to have that swapped too. Now, the burger itself... The patties were good. They were flavorful and had a nice chewy texture. It was, however, extremely hard to eat as there was no mayo, no mustard--nothing but dry bun. And no acid to add a much needed pop of tanginess. A simple pickle would have done wonders, or a slice of fresh onion or cuke. The onion was bland and softened somehow, so it lacked the crisp crunch I was expecting. I requested mayo and ketchup, and they brought me some in little cups. Sadly they didn't have mustard. The sauces made it far more edible, but there was still something off--something missing that took it from being truly enjoyable to being just palatable. The sweet potato home fries should come free with the meal. Sorry, but if you're paying 20 bucks from one burger, that burger needs to come with a decent side--one that is served hot and crisp, not lukewarm, leathery, and sauceless as these were. My mom enjoyed her salad. She almost never eats out, and it was nice to see her eat something alongside me at the table, so for that I have given a third star. Were I going solely on my own impression, I would have given two. So that's why they're always empty, y'all. I so badly wanted to like this place. Wanted to give them a glowing review, but I had to be honest. There's a lot that needs to be worked out, and I hope they do, because it's a lovely concept. We need more healthy options in this city! As a local who cannot eat in most restaurants in New Orleans (gluten + meat free) -- it breaks my heart to have such terrible service that I have to reconsider ever coming back. My friend has experienced cold food on a number of occasions - which is a separate issue and constant disappointment , but on this night my half of my food came out (a salad) and it took 50 minutes to get the primary reason I suggested we eat there -- salmon. The manager came and offered an empty apology suggesting that a large order for a basketball team that came in well after our order, was a priority, despite their late arrival and ordering well after our table. When they went to leave the chef was begging them for a good review -- disregarding the regulars for one off guests. It was incredibly upsetting, mismanaged and disappointing. I think it actually just comes down to treating people well vs trying to use people you deem more valuable to get what you want. Imagine this -- treat everyone well AND serve hot food and people might spread the news about this otherwise great option in New Orleans. You have the rare opportunity here to cater to a demographic that has SO FEW other options. And you fumble it with basic human decency. Thank God we have a few gems like Lamara and Sneaky Pickle/ Bar Brine that can both meet the needs of people who need different options and prioritize treating all people equally. read more

Maybe because I'm from another urban city with amazing vegan food but this vegan burger left me pretty unsatisfied. It was a little bland and pretty pricy! The kale salad was really tasty with a great dressing. The ambiance was nice and clean but The service was pretty slow, my waiter was training someone which might be the reason for the delay but they forgot my hot sauce for like 10-15 minutes despite me asking twice, and my sandwich got soggy in the meantime. I tried something different this time and it was amazing also. I had the edamame dumplings and ahi tuna bowl. Both were tasty. The bartender/service was pleasant and attentive. Always smiling and making sure I was ok. I also had dessert. It was a rough day and after eating so well, you don't feel guilty. The seating at the bar was a bit messy. I must have missed the after lunch rush and it appeared she was by herself she was playing catch up once I arrived. Overall it was a great experience! I know I'll be back again! Side note, the kitchen is always entertaining unknowingly. First of all, gorgeous restaurant. We were wow-ing like we were "uncouth" and hadn't been anywhere in life. LOL. I ordered the creamy tomato soup, loaded fingerling potatoes, asparagus, and Hangover drink. The creamy tomato soup was definitely creamy with a beautiful tomato flavor. The tomato flavor was not overpowering. I really enjoyed this, though a smidge salty on the back end. The loaded fingerling potatoes were okay. I wish they added more of the toppings as some of the potatoes were very plain. The asparagus were plain with a bit of lemon sauce. That's it. I did not taste any salt, etc., but I am okay with these being basic. The Hangover drink was delicious. The pineapple and aloe vera really came through. I also tried a slice of the Spinach and Mushroom pizza. It was pretty dang good! I loved that burst of ricotta. Overall, I rate this restaurant a 4.5. I am a person willing to pay for quality food and ingredients, but $25 for the plate in this picture was steep! This was takeout. No delivery, service or tip was added to that price. I went and picked it up/ordered it directly from the restaurant mysef. I will say that the staff was very nice & chatted while I waited for my order at the takeout bar. *** Vegetarian Review *** Bougie Blanco Pizza. This was the star of the night and the reason this place gets 3 stars instead of 2. The thin, chewy crust was satisfying, and the shaved Parmesan added a lot to each bite. The combination of black truffle, organic arugula, and house-made hot honey worked really well together. The hot honey gave just the right kick, making each bite a bit more exciting. I'd definitely order this again. Plant-Based Double Cheeseburger. Unfortunately, this was a big letdown. The house-made portobello, beet, and walnut patty had potential, but it was poorly executed. The burger crumbled apart with every bite, offering no texture to hold it together. A sear or crust might have helped give it structure. The bun was served cold--tasting like it had been sitting out for days, which made it pretty much inedible. The pickled onions were overwhelming, even by banh mi standards. I appreciate the effort to go beyond just using Impossible or Beyond meat, but they need to rethink the execution here. Since French fries were not an option, we choose the kale salad. It was completely drenched in dressing, making it soggy and overpowering - so much so that it became inedible after a few bites. On the bright side, it's nice that the menu clearly marks vegetarian and vegan options, making it easy for plant-based eaters to find something. If they can refine some of their dishes, this place has potential. In fact, I've been to their Palo Alto and Pasadena locations in California and every time was a 4-star experience. This review reflects the lack of detail for the burger bun which after one bite, we ate the burger with a fork and just called it a deconstructed vegan burger. And, the same for the kale salad. One bite and nope. Bottom line - there are great options here. But you also need to know the pitfalls ordering the vegan/vegetarian options. read more

Tasty Happy Hour! I'm on business travel in NOLA and wanted something healthy. I happened to arrive in time for happy hour. I sat at the bar and ordered from the hh menu. I've eaten True Food Kitchen several times as takeout and have been downright delighted by my food each of those times. So my expectations were high when I dined in a few weeks ago to celebrate a family member. There was a big group of us. We'd made a reservation a week before, but I was nervous that the service would not be accommodating. Thankfully, they were very kind to my family. The restaurant even comped my relative's meal- a gift they offered when another relative called to make the reservation. Our server seemed nervous and made some honest mistakes (double charged us, forgot some drinks) and some of the plates were over-salted even for our very New Orleans palates. Still, all of these snafus were remedied satisfactorily. It's hard to be upset when all the other staff are super kind. She was maybe new? The decor is open, airy, and green. The high ceilings are accented with faux greenery that somehow manages to be tasteful. I was transported back to some Playa Del Carmen, Mexico restaurants that have very similar tropical motifs.
