Later, an Employee comes out and says I have an oil leak and for $140 they can inspect for the problem. No thanks. After oil change I drive away and smell oil. Go to my cousin two miles away and we open the hood to oil spilled all over the engine. I drive back to Christian brothers and the mechanic admits his funnel burped and oil spilled. Didn't bother to clean it up until I took it back. Ends up there isn't an issue with an oil leak, it was the oil he spilled running down under the car.

Thankfully the vehicle is still in warranty phase so I took it back to Kayser in Sauk where they determined that no codes were stored and they performed a tire sensor relearn where all the sensors learn and are now showing the tire pressures again on the screen. Then nothing until I get an emailed invoice that was not clear to me. I called to ask questions and even offered feedback about the info in the invoice. Was told that in his 15 years of running a shop, no one had every said they weren't clear. Well, ok then. I ok'd the work. Then I get a call the next day that in the process of replacing the fuel sensor, he cracked the fuel line. This was Friday afternoon around 2pm. They would quote it for me on Monday. I asked why it couldn't be quoted that day since it had already been there all week. They had previous plans. Ok. Monday comes, they quote was over $1000 for the fuel line and labor. My family are all mechanics but they live in Montana, a little too far to drive. Things happen when working on cars. BUT....they all said they would not charge labor and give the part to the customer at cost. If that didn't make them happy, they would not charge. I wasn't expecting it to be fixed for free but I also was not at fault that the fuel line was damaged. I told him I would just come get it. He asked if I realized it didn't run...smh. I had my car towed back home and had it fixed somewhere else for half that price. I decided to give a new shop a chance and keep it local. My mistake.

Since then, we have taken multiple vehicles in, for everything from basic oil changes to suspension replacements. An anecdote: there was one time one of my control arms broke while driving and I had my car towed there. They looked into the issue, and Chris called me to let me know that Nissan would probably cover this under warranty, because there had been what was almost a recall, but you had to actually experience the problem first (they wouldn't replace them preventively). I didn't know about this, and they could have just diagnosed the issue and done the repair themselves, and I would have been none the wiser. Instead, they saved me hundreds of dollars. Their work has always been reasonably priced and completed to our satisfaction. I'm glad that Aaron, who had been operating as the main mechanic as it was, purchased the business and is continuing on as Syverson Automotive. I also really like the small shop feel -- if there's a question on the work done or recommended to be done, he's right there and you can actually talk to him. The only negative: it can take a bit to get in sometimes, so give them a call a couple weeks before you might want to be scheduled, if you can.
