If you can't eat at Moobongri, order it for to-go! Ordering was super easy. We called to place our order, and they said our food would be ready in 15 minutes. When we brought it back home, everything was still warm and nicely packaged. I was craving some chicken soup for the soul (Sam gye tang) after a very long run. Sam gye tang is a popular Korean chicken soup, and so soothing for any recovery. This one in particular was amazing. What stood out was the broth, with a slight creamy texture, and so good. Husband was kind enough to pick it up, and he said the place was pretty busy. I can see why. I would definitely recommend, and also looking forward to going back in person one day.
Love that this place is open late ~ arrived at 11pm for a late night bite. Seafood pancake and pork belly soup was 5/5. So hearty and warm and so flavorful! You can salt the pork soup to your liking. The spicy beef and veggie soup was 3/5. Not bad but would skip next time. Felt like it was too overloaded with veggies/bean sprouts. Banchan was really fresh.
The food was mediocre, but the service was one of the worst I've experienced. Especially from this guy. The restaurant wasn't busy, yet we sat for nearly 20 minutes before our server finally came to our table, despite me trying to get his attention multiple times. When our food arrived about 30 minutes later, I asked for rice at least five times and was completely ignored. I eventually had to ask other employees because our server never followed through. What made the experience even more frustrating was that it felt like we were invisible until I started speaking Korean. As soon as I spoke Korean, the staff suddenly acknowledged us and became responsive. The difference in treatment was hard to ignore. Between the long waits, lack of attention, and poor service throughout the meal, this was a very disappointing experience. There are plenty of other Korean restaurants with better food and far better customer service. I won't be coming back.
Sometimes you get a craving for soondae and this place hits the spot. We were debating between the non-spicy and the spicy version of the soondae soup and we're glad we went with spicy. Don't worry for those who can't tolerate high levels of spicy, it's not that bad. Generous amounts of soondae and other meats are tucked into the creamy broth, and with this order came a plate of more soondae and more slices of meat. The steamed dumplings were delicious, stuffed full of meat filling, and the vinegary dipping sauce went very well with the dumplings. Banchan were fantastic and we definitely had some refills of the radish and cabbage kimchi. Even the chives with sesame oil was a great palette cleanser. More likely than not there'll be a wait for tables, so it's best to come during non-prime hours.
Anytime when it's cold or raining, Moobongri comes to mind. We love coming here for their variety of hot soups! Our favorites to order are Soondae Guk and Samgyetang. They have so much more to offer on their menu besides hot soups and they are all winners! I love the kimchi banchan here - it tastes so good! Service is attentive, friendly, and quick! They do get busy so I always try to come before the lunch/dinner rush to get seated right away.
The soondae soup was fairly rich, flavourful and fragrant. The soondae was also great without an overwhelming blood smell. I really liked the side dishes as well, especially the fresh kimchi and radishes. Yet, the portions were on the smaller side and the prices were quite steep. Service was fast and the restaurant was spacious with plenty of seats and parking.
It was nice and quaint when I visited. I shared the Bossam and Cheese Pork Katsu; these two dishes were good to share between two people! The Bossam had a clean taste and the veggies/sides was portioned perfectly for the size. It was fun pairing a bunch of random stuff together with the steamed pork. My favorite combination would probably be cabbage, radish, garlic, and a slice of meat. The Cheese Pork Katsu was good and had a nice crispy texture. Most of the cheese for our dish was melted to the bottom of the plate.
Great Korean comfort food! This restaurant offers a wide variety of Korean food and always seems to be packed. Their most popular dish is definitely their soondae soup which can be had regular or spicy. Side dishes are included as well as a good selection of toppings to choose from. We got the soondae soup and seafood pancake. The soondae soup was very comforting. I could see this being good for hangovers, when sick, or even when you're just in the mood for some hearty food! The seafood pancake was definitely plentiful and filling. It was crispy on the outside and packed with seafood and veggies on the inside. Definitely recommend both of these dishes! This place definitely gives off a family vibe, yet good for a casual dinner with friends too. Highly recommend to those in the area looking for great Korean comfort food!
Soup that warms up the soul! Moobongri's food tastes like it came straight out of a grandmother's kitchen. Super fresh, high quality ingredients in every dish. I definitely recommend getting any of their spicy soups. I went with with the spicy beef soup and it was definitely on the hotter side! Really great Korean restaurant!! We got the regular soondae soup which was phenomenal and definitely the favorite of the table! It made us want to get a plate of soondae next time we go! There's a lot of add-ons that can be added to the soup as well! We also got the Oyster Hot Pot which had a lot of oysters in it! Highly recommend! And can't wait to go again!

So comforting having piping hot soups to order. The dumplings and soondae are also delicious as well. They have a variety of seafood as well that I'm coming back to try next time. Great service.

Short wait outside, don't open the door to go in, sign the waitlist that is a sheet of paper right outside the door, they are using every bit of space to enjoy delicious food! Great variety! Ben loved the short ribs, yummy broth and rice and I loved the dumplings. Friendly service. Banchan perfect

Really solid Korean food. We got the intestines. Our favorite was the seafood pancake. The texture was amazing. Service was fast. The cold noodles were good to with the mustard and vinegar. Not to loud. Can get crowded on the weekends. read more

Always come here for their Galbitang and their banchan. The service is great, they are always happy to refill your banchan and love the flavor and depth of their galbitang. This place is 5 min drive from me so it's my go to for this particular soup! read more

Absolutely loved this place. The food was fresh, flavorful, and came out hot with great presentation. Every dish tasted authentic and made with care. The meats were tender, the banchan had amazing variety, and everything was seasoned perfectly. Service was just as impressive--friendly, attentive, and welcoming from start to finish. The staff made sure we had everything we needed and checked in often without being intrusive. The restaurant was clean, comfortable, and had a great atmosphere for both family dinners or a casual night out. You can tell they take pride in quality and customer experience. Definitely one of the best Korean spots in the area. Looking forward to coming back again soon. read more

I am still on a hunt for an authentic and tasty Korean place in Irvine and sadly I don't think I've found it yet. As a Korean, and as I really wanted Moobongri to because the people are so nice but I knocked two stars because of taste. Again, the service is really nice and attentive AND they are fluent in both Korean and English. I went to Moobongri and ordered their soondae, pork kimchi stew and spicy beef rib stew. The side dishes were okay - the kimchi was sweet which is a huge miss for me. The soondae was mostly just clear noodles, not much flavor but I did like the salt that came with it. I usually opt for the salted shrimp dipping sauce but it didn't taste good because it had an interesting gamey taste. The kimchi pork stew was sweet as well. I guess an overarching theme for this place is that most of their dishes are just too sweet. read more
Moobongri is the real deal for traditional Korean comfort food. I came specifically for their soondae specialties. We ordered both the spicy and non-spicy soondae-guk, and both were flavorful. The soondae platter itself was generous. Everything arrived piping hot in traditional stone bowls that kept our soups bubbling throughout the meal. The banchan selection was solid, and service was quick and attentive. If you're adventurous with Korean cuisine or already love soondae, check this place out. read more

Called ahead, wasn't too busy. They prepared a table for us ahead of time as we were about 5m away. They have a variety of different Korean dishes but as the name states, they seem to be known for their soondae. Food was amazing! Didn't disappoint and there were so many foods I wanted to try, will definitely be coming back for more. read more
We came on a weekday for lunch and definitely best the lunch rush! The lady was very nice and patient and came to check in to see if we needed anything. Spicy beef short rib- Came with multiple short ribs and the broth wasn't too spicy. This was definitely shareable as well! The broth was very rich and the meat was also tender. Spicy soondae soup- This was definitely on the spicy side! The soondae was delicious, tasted a lot of the noodles (probably made by hand here). They give about 5 pieces of it in the soup and it also came with some meat inside. Both were delicious on a cold day! read more
Decided to come here for the soondae soup! We had tried another location in Vegas and were confident this was going to be a hit again. We ordered the spicy soondae soup with the soondae side. This dish was very hearty and comforting. The soondae has a thin casing and overall slightly chewy. The soondae also pairs really well with the salt they give you. The spice level of the soup was probably more on the mild side for us, but perfect so you can taste the flavors. Besides soondae there are pieces of tender meat and I believe slices of intestine. The side essentially a dry version of the meats in the soup. The banchan include some chives, onion, tiny dried shrimp, spicy pickled daikon, and kimchi. The last two of the banchan are refillable as far as I know. Service was very friendly. Prices are on the higher side, but I feel like that's for how fresh the food is and about on par to other Korean places. Parking is pretty tight here. Overall, this is a solid restaurant for soondae + soup! read more

Love the gob Chang, it's fresh and delicious. Galbi is great as well, very tender and juicy. High quality meat. The blood sausage is just Ok, not really special. It's a little too bland for me. This place is clean and doesn't have that heavy food smell. Many Koreans eat here, which tells me the food must be good and authentic, right ? Servers are friendly and tentative. If they are busy, you can wave at them and they will get what you need right away. read more

omg one of my fave korean restaurants in irvine!! i my go to is always the beef soup which is so comforting and hearty! this time i also tried the galbi which was soooo goood! not cloyingly sweet or burnt which is something i run into other korean spots! their soondae is always to die for and pairs so nicely with either their soup or just a side of rice! also love the free refills on the ban chan ! read more

The wait was a bit longer than anticipated for a week night but nothing ridiculous. The inside ambiance is casual, clean, and quiet. Service is relatively fast though. Ordered the Bossam (size small) which was the perfect size. Came with green cabbage, Napa, kabocha, bean sprouts, a few mushrooms. Overall was yummy to eat - especially with other banchan. Also ordered the spicy pork belly soup which was yummy (putting the little shrimp in was extra delicious!) didn't try the soondae this time but intrigued to try it next time! :) read more
