I am from out of state visiting family here and as I was walking with them downtown, my cousin looked up this place while we had dinner from next door and thought we out to try this out. I bought two cinnamon rolls there just a few days ago, one for my son, and one for me. I'm very disappointed to say on the quality of the two cinnamon rolls that I paid for didn't look that great, HERE'S WHY! when I got home, I opened the box and the cinnamon rolls were small, you can fit three more in the box. Hardly any icing on one of them, the taste on both tasted like a day old, old and stale. Really good Nashville hot chicken in Portland. The spices were reminiscent of the flavors I'd had in the East--quite numbingly spicy. I was looking forward to a good meal during our visit in portland.... but bae's fried chicken fell short. my mother is a friend chicken connoisseur and we both ordered the wings. hubby got a chicken sandwich. the flavor of the chicken was good, but bite too deep into the brunette and get met with undercooked ick! We returned the batch and ordered a new one, only to experience the same thing. The flats were cooked through, but the large drummers were not. We were told it was due to the chickens being young. I was really excited to come to Bae's to get some Nashville hot chicken . I ordered the strip meal and asked for one of each: hot, honey butter, and traditional along with a beer. I got the "come back" sauce (fry sauce) and the spicy peach sauce but I was really hoping the chicken would be so flavorful I wouldn't need them. I was the only one in the restaurant so the chicken arrived pretty quickly. The strips were juicy and the waffle fries well seasoned. Unfortunately, I used the sauces. I did like the chicken, but I couldn't discern the difference in flavor between any of them other than a super salty one. I wouldn't have bothered eating here for just regular fried chicken. First off, the busy-ness of the place is misleading (they weren't busy, my group of about 9 people (6 adults, 3 children) pretty much was the crowd when we came here for the late afternoon. Even went above and beyond to ensure we tried everything. The wings were nice and crispy and juicy. Chicken tenders were flavorful. Waffle fries were seasoned! All the sides they gave us the option to try were great too! The drinks were strong according to my friend, they had a pretty heavy pour and that's not a bad thing. I have had Bae's on my list for some time and I was thrilled to find one located at the Moda Center. The food was phenomenal and the service was as good as well. It was very hectic, but the host was so gracious and took her time describing the options for chicken flavors. For the first time visiting Bae's I opted for the classic flavor in a chicken tender basket. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the waffle fries were hot and crispy. The sauce I selected was the comeback sauce...so good. And of course it was all washed down with the Portland staple of Widmer Hefeweizen. Very large, open space that is great for chilling + watching a game! The staff is pretty nice as well. Unfortunately, what lacks here is what's supposed to be the star of the show -- the chicken. I got the strips and sadly they were very dry. The signature sauce that they have was good, but it wasn't enough to make up for the dryness of the chicken. While at Saturday Market, stopped in Bae's because I had to have one of their biscuits! Yes, the biscuit. I know most people come here for the chicken since that is in the restaurant's name, but I've been to another location and that biscuit is everything! For context, I don't like biscuits! They are typically dry and dense. Not Bae's! Their biscuits have layers and layers of fluffy, tender, buttery goodness and are easily double the height of a traditional biscuit. They are golden colored and the top is crisp. It tasted like a cross between a biscuit and a muffin. Perfection! The chicken, whether you get the plate, a sandwich or tenders, is very juicy and the skin is a deep bronze color and flavorful. The butter sauce is slightly sweet and fantastic. Not a big fan of their mashed potatoes - too salty. Or the mac&cheese which needs salt. These two need to be tweaked and balanced out! The greens are delicious!
