Ever since I moved here from Sacramento, I have been coming to Bag o Crab for at least once or twice a week, because there is no seafood boil close to the one in Sacramento. Me and boyfriend came in as a party of 2 with the possibility of one more as the other party just got off of work and already ate and only coming for a drink. We walked in at exactly 4:30pm and the place was not busy. They asked for how many and I said 3 they then stated to us that we must have the entire party before we are seated. This is the first time this has happened to us. I may understand this as most restaurants do this but for it being 4:30, with multiple booths and tables open, no rush, staff just sitting in empty booths, no waitlist, how can they not accommodate this? I understand restaurants have policies that are important, but what happened to hospitality. Dining out is not only about serving good food it's also about providing thoughtful, welcoming service. When the restaurant is clearly not busy, a little flexibility and basic consideration can make a significant difference in a customer's experience. Shrimp is the only good thing. Drinks are not good; they don't have any cocktails or true bar. They just pour buss balls into your choice of soda or juice. Do not order anything else but shrimp or real protein. Cost is cheap and inexpensive but it it because of the poor quality; octopus ended up being octopus steaks which is the cheapest part of the octopus. Sausage tastes like winnies. Corn is really good! The service was not the best, multiple people touched my table at different times, my server took my order and I didn't see her until she picked up the tab to charge me. The food itself was ok. The seafood tasted like boiled water, and the corn was over cooked/mushy. I got the atomic flavor and it just tasted like oil, seasoning was missing majorly with the seafood. I also ordered it spicy, and I did not have any spice at all in my bag. I really like my seafood with spice heat, so I will have to get the highest level next time for any spice at all. The Cajun fries tasted like sugar was dumped in them, it was interesting to taste sugar on Cajun fries. I ate here once before and had a very nice Cajun fish sandwhich. Tonight I ordered a shrimp po'boy sandwich with onion rings that was totally disappointing. The roll was soggy and un-toasted. There was one thin slice of tomato and a little shredded iceberg lettuce on the po'boy. The shrimp had no flavor and was dried out. The deep fry on both the shrimp and onions only tasted like grease. I actually couldn't detect a flavor difference between the deep fried shrimp and deep fried onion rings. Somehow, they managed to disappear all the flavors except old grease. The portion sizes were huge! Thus 2 stars instead of one star. I usually look forward to eating my left-overs the next day, but these will probably be thrown out for lack of flavor. read more

We got the combo #1 for 35$ that came with two pounds of either shrimp, crawfish, mussels, clams, or octopus. Sadly you can't get two of the same so we did shrimp and crawfish. The seasoning is good! Mild isn't exactly mild, think that hot Cheetos are more spicy. I wish you could add more than one flavor because Cajun and garlic would've been great. Service was friendly and accommodating. I personally think there's more flavor at crab bucket. Both the shrimp and crawfish are big and juicy. The corn was the best out of the sides; potatoes, sausage, and corn. Why does a restaurant "close" at 10 but stops seating at 8:30 pm? I would get fine dining but causal dining? Be for real. We came looking for a party of 5 at 9pm because we knew we were going to be quick and knew what we wanted and we come to find out they stop seating at 830??? A must try ! We arrived when they just opened, got seated right away. I'm assuming it gets busy quick. There was a good amount of people when doors opened. Yes a little robot pulls up to bring you your food but accompanied by staff. I saw a lot of complaints about that and I did not find anything off putting about that . It is rare that I encounter an experience that I wish I could rate below zero. And this is the first time that I chose to eat at an establishment but based on treatment ended up walking out and not dining at all. Usually I wouldn't waste my time on an experience like this but I really believe this is something only management can fix. So here goes. Let me start by saying the name created no appeal to me as a potential hungry customer. Couple that with overall 3 star reviews and I would normally just skip that establishment. But when the wife and daughter are hungry I make concessions. This was no exception, it was a rainy day so I made a point of having them go into the restaurant while I parked. Of note, PLENTY of parking on a monday. I park and enter the restaurant a few mins later where I am told the staff would not seat them until all party members were there as that is the restaurant Policy. I scanned the restaurant and it was almost empty, noting that there were more staff than customers and they were all grouped up passing time by chatting with one another. Since almost all seating is for four or more persons it seems unreasonable to not allow a mother and child to be seating while the other parent parks the vehicle on a rainy day. It felt more like we were an inconvenience to the staff. And I am unwilling to support an establishment with my hard earned money when they choose to treat my family that way. So we left, drove a half mile to a nearby Thai restaurant with 100 reviews and a 4.7 rating and proceeded to drop nearly $100 there for good food that was worth my time and money as well as no disrespect. And for that treatment.... Priceless. Management needs to train their staff better, treat the patron with respect as they are what will ultimately keep you in business. And rethink applying what seems like apparent poor policies on a restaurant that clearly could use more customers. But I foresee a bankruptcy in your future. For those out there looking for good food and to be treated properly, Salinas offers so many better options. Recommend you choose those. read more

I love Bag O' Crab dowwwwnnn! So good every time. Servers are always so kind and it's just a good vibe overall. When they tell you a wait time it's usually pretty accurate which I can respect. The only reason for 4/5 stars is the cleanliness. I came into this place on a suggestion from the hotel. They were quite busy and had a line but immediate seating at the bar. They have autonomous delivery system, which is very interesting to watch. I ordered the fried shrimp for ease of eating after seeing what some people had gone through with their boiled bags. The shrimp was very good with a great batter. My friend put me onto their garlic noodles that are so yummy and shareable (1 order easily feeds 2 as a side). I know people have drink preferences but something about their sweet tea goes so perfect with this meal. The vibe makes sense with the theme and seating isn't generally a problem but I have seen it get very busy as I'm leaving. Unfortunately every time I come in staff is sitting down and talking among them selfs. 3-5 crew members just sit at a table at once. They tell me to wait 10 min before I can be seated when the restaurant is empty. Today at 9:20 they tell me the kitchen is closed already. Hours of operation say they're open till 9:30. This is the second time the staff close the store earlier than what is posted. Before it said it closed at 10PM at 9:30PM they would close the kitchen. Maybe now you should adjust your hours of operation to 9PM. Very disappointing. Is the crew the works here going to keep closing earlier and earlier till the location runs out of business.
