My family and I ate here a few days ago and the food was great like always, they had music playing and the ambiance was great. As for service they went above and beyond. Everyone was super nice and helpful. While I was walking out I accidentally dropped some tarter sauce and tried picking it up, the employees they were super nice and I was so embarrassed that I didn't only drop one small container of tartar sauce I dropped two. I did try to pick it up as best as I can, but the employees were super nice and they took care of it really quick and they were really nice about it and didn't make me feel bad at all. Yesterdays meal was terrible. My order: Forgot name of plate..... four fried shrimp, one fish, calamari (crumbs) fries, coleslaw and a glass of ice water. Friends plate. Fish and fries. Everything on my plate was OVER FRIED, dark brown, tasted the same and seemed to all be fried in the same oil and basket. No individual flavors. Nothing seemed to be battered in house. ALL FROZEN PRODUCT FROM FOODSCO TYPE STUFF?!!?!! I mentioned to the waitress but she just smiled. I asked for oil chili but was given tomatoes purée with chili seeds. Said this is all they have. Not flavorful either. Looked across and person had fish taco with salsa. She should have offered that. Coleslaw was beige, wilted. Should be light green and crunchy. The ice water was unfiltered city water. You could taste dirty pipes. Gross. I asked for lemon and squeezed a bunch of juice into it so that I could have something to wash down the dry food. Suggestion: they should buy a brita filtered pitcher to use when serving water. I can't see myself paying $4 for a glass of soda. I usually bring my own water bottle as I don't do sugar fattening soda. Ordered a hamburger with a baked potato to go. Got home and they gave us fries my dad couldn't eat for health reasons and a burger with a thin patty as thin as a slice of deli ham. He fed the patty to his dog, threw the rest away and ate oatmeal and boiled eggs instead. Lol When we pulled up before we walked in we said there's no cars here. I hope it's not a sign the foods bad. It was 5:00 pm dinner time. After our experience inside our questions were answered. We ordered the wrong things. In past we always come here on weekends for menudo, Cajun steamed shrimp, seafood soup. They provide a really good oil chili with it. Not sure why they didn't have it today. If I return I won't order fish, shrimp, calamari, fries. The fries should be fried in their own oil. Not with the seafood. And the food was so dark I believe it was time to change the oil. Calamari were worm shaped. Small like crumbs. Long story short they need to step up their game in the kitchen and the frozen product quality they serve. Oh. And don't overcook everything. When you take food out of hot cooking oil it continues to cook after you take it out of fryer. Terrible waste of money on yesterday's meal. read more

I can see what some of the reviews were referring to about how confusing it is to walk in and then walk to the register to order. I did not look over the menu because I wanted fish & chips. I went with the three piece and a soda. It bad for under $19 bucks. The wait was not long at all. Time to eat. The fries were decent. They were a battered style fries. As for the fish, definitely bland. Plenty of fish but even with the tartar sauce the food was bland. I had to toss in some Salt to give it a seasoned flavor. Honestly, the name threw me off at first--I mean, how could a place that sounds like it serves only American food have menudo? But this is the perfect example of don't judge a book by its cover! They actually have a full Mexican menu, and the menudo did not disappoint. The flavor was solid, and they serve it with all the fresh ingredients on the side so you can make it just the way you like it. The broth on its own is good, though I found it really comes alive after adding a little salt and those final touches. Even one of our boys went all in trying to eat his bowl while wearing a white t-shirt... let's just say the menudo won that round . The t-shirt didn't survive, but the flavor made it worth it! What really made the experience even better was the customer service. The staff was super friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which completed the whole experience. Don't let the outside of the place fool you. Have been here a couple of times for the fish and chips. They are always cooked well and never have been greasy. Had the calamari and clams last visit. Calamari was soft and not chewy or tough. Clams were not over cooked. Liked the calamari more than the clams. Servers are friendly and orders come out quickly. read more

Love this place! The owners work extremely hard and are extremely pleasant. They walk the floor and make conversation with their customers, and the food speaks for itself. Here is where things get a little awkward and a bit hard for the owners. When you have employees that don't work hard to take care of the customer. We went in after Church to have breakfast. We sat down after ordering and waited for our server to come and drop off our drinks. Well, Im going to say that she must have still been asleep. The server was a bit subpar along with her looks and rolling of the eyes. NOT COOL. The owners work hard to make the place an amazing place. Look, that's all I'm going to say. Workers think like this, it's not your to ruin. If work is to much or it's just not for you, it's time to go find a job that you would enjoy. Just made a huge order of all sorts of food and it was great. Everything we liked, it might seem simple but it's one of the few restaurants that actually gets coleslaw right. But fish, shrimp, etc all on point. Had a late lunch today with my friend. Second time I have been to Fish & Chips Restaurant. I loved the cole slaw, the flavor of the breaded fried shrimp, and their crispy fries. Let's be honest here, upon first glance, it's not much to look at. The entrance is confusing. Instead of being at the front of the building facing the street or even the front parking lot, it's at the back of the building off to the side. To get there, you pass the employee entrance after climbing a couple sets of steps unless you were fortunate enough to have parked by the employee entrance. Very curious, indeed. When you enter, the counter is directly to your right and that's where you order your food. The menu is absolutely massive for such a small place! I can't believe they have such a huge menu, to be honest. Four burgers (in a fish & chips place???), chicken sandwiches (umm...fish . & . chips ... ), salads (at least they have seafood on them), pozole, menudo (sigh...again...fish & chips place...what part of fish & chips seems like it should include menudo???). Definitely fish on the menu, though and plenty of it. It's the rest of it that's totally out of place here. We both ordered fish & chips plates as well as clam chowder. The food arrived quickly, which is good because we were very hungry. The chowder got there first. It's a classic New England clam chowder; creamy and chocked full of potatoes and clams. It's good but definitely needs salt and pepper to bring out the complexity of the flavors. I finished my small cup fairly quickly and was left wanting more (so long as I added salt to it, of course). My husband ordered a bowl but he wasn't as happy with it. The fish and chips platters came not long after the chowder did. I was a bit confused by the timing of the delivery of the food. Servers really need to be aware of how long they give guests to finish their first course. We hadn't even really started our chowder before the platters arrived. As for how the fish and chips were, well...I'm not exactly impressed. The fish is battered and fried perfectly. The issue is flavor - or lack of it. It's all terribly underseasoned. Look, if you're going to do this, do it right. The batter on the fish is devoid of salt. It's beautifully golden and the fish is cooked perfectly and still juicy, not dry or anything. The fries, too, lacked seasoning. They were better than the fish, though. Fries require to be seasoned straight out of the fryer. Salt. Plenty of it. It's not difficult. Same for the fish. Season before battering, season the batter, and season after it's out of the fryer. You don't need a heavy hand, but you do need to add it. It's flavorless without it. And speaking of flavorless, the tartar sauce is begging for some lemon juice! It's so bland. It's like it's just mayo and a bit of relish and maybe some onion mixed up. It's not good. Tartar sauce is supposed to be creamy and tangy, it's supposed to compliment and uplift the fish, not drag already bland fish further down. You achieve a perfect blend of creamy and tangy by starting with mayo and lemon juice then add your relish to it. I use sweet relish because it offsets the mayo and lemon juice perfectly with a hint of sweetness. A little bit of salt, white pepper, and a dash of garlic powder and you have the perfect tartar sauce. It truly isn't difficult. I'm not sure we'll return here. We may just to see if any of the other seafood is as bland as the fish or if it actually has some flavor. We'll see in a few weeks or so. read more

Two days ago when my family decided to have Fish And Chips for dinner my mother decided to press her luck and try something different and what my mother discovered was simply amazing. My mother found out that Fish And Chips had flautas on their menu and so when my family received our Fish And Chips order my mother tried their flautas and fell in love with them and I could swear that these flautas could easily win an award for best tasting flautas in the entire universe and needless to say my mom enjoyed every bite. Oh my god. First of all, wow! This spot is so fire, my bf and I are addicted already. We tried the Cajun shrimp, 3 Piece Fish & Chips, and Clam Chowder. All three are must tries!! But the star of the show was the Cajun Shrimp, that sh*t was so freaking good. Had a nice spice & the flavor was amazing . We're from Sac and have been looking for a Cajun shrimp like back home, and we've definitely found it. Comes with a lot too. The only bummer for me was the chowder had bacon. That was totally on me for not asking, but just fyi for any other pescatarians. The flavor was good af though. The place is so clean and has a nice home-y vibe. My husband had business in Salinas and I was craving some good clam chowder. He offered to pick up lunch on his way home if I found someplace and ordered. Yelp to the rescue!! I called and ordered clam chowder ( family size) and a side of bread as well as a cod sandwich.. I wanted more but it is a 2 hour drive home and I thought some of the menu items wouldn't be very good after that long in the car. The sweet man that answered the phone was very friendly. He and my husband actually had a fun conversation while he was there. The menu looks great! And I hear the oysters both cooked and raw are super fresh! When my chowder got to me I was so impressed with amount and size of clams in it! So good! The menu is pretty extensive for a counter place, with a number of interesting looking choices. We got a four-piece fish and chips dinner and a shrimp and fish combo dinner. We opted for breaded instead of fried shrimp and baked potatoes instead of fried. Service was good and so was the food. The fish pieces were substantial, not skimpy like in some places. This place is the best. I love coming here even if the wait is long. It is a small joint and super busy so you have to go at the right times. They give you so much food that you just have to take home and enjoy as leftovers later or the next day. The customer service is good.
