Great customer service and solid Korean food! We came here for lunch and it wasn't busy at all so we were seated quickly. We ordered the bibimbap, bulgogi plate, yugaejang, and soondubu. Everything came out hot and fresh and was seasoned well. It tastes like your Korean grandma cooked it. My only complaint is that the kimchi served in the banchan was too sour/old. We have lived in Marina now for 8 years. What took us so long to come to this restaurant? It was early in the day around 4:00 PM. We were greeted kindly and were told to sit anywhere. A former Arby's building yet very clean. We were the only people there. Early right? Don't let that fool you. The food is delicious! This place is a nice find in Monterey Bay for those looking for their korean food fix. They got most of the usuals like your traditional bonchons, rice cakes and grilled meats. We wanted more of a small plate of galbi. Seems like they had this all-out grilled meat package which would've been the only focus of dinner. So wish they had a happy middle ground. We ended up getting the kimchi pancake, soondubu and bibimbap. Pancake was a bit on the sharp side, probably because of the kimchi. The soondubu didn't come with an egg, so be sure to ask for one. The tofu was definitely still, probably just the types of tofu that was available to them in the area. The kibimbap was actually pretty good. And the bonchons were spot on. The service here was very friendly. Like many korean restaurants, the wait staff is more than happy to help you prep your food at the table, which is a very nice and friendly touch. They have 2 seating areas: cook-your-own kbbq grill area and non-bbq area. We opted for non grill since it was late... I have to commend their customer service because it was really good! Still crushing it as of 2026! I called in at like 7:45 PM begging for a last-minute reservation because I was unexpectedly in town with some family and this is our fave spot as a group. They close at 9 but with any restaurant, the kitchen shuts down earlier than that, of course. So I knew we were cutting it reallllly close. When we arrived and rushed in, we were the only ones there. I'm betting the crew would have rather packed up and closed shop early than dealt with random late customers crowding in -- but they stayed open and gave us a fantastic experience instead. So cool of them and I'm hella grateful. It was my grandma's first time trying KBBQ at all, and she loved it so much! The staff was super kind, fun, thoughtful and accommodating. This place has always our favorite place to eat at when we visit Marina and Monterey.. but this last visit was "Ehhh"....unfortunately when there's "All You Can Eat BBQ" for under $25 per person everywhere else, it's hard to pay $99 for the types of meats, not big plates either, but like a small side plate of salad size. The LA Ribs was only 3 strips Plus , we just wanted double bulgogi instead of the chicken bulgogi (not a fan of thigh meat) and that was completely ignored. And I'm not sure how $99 plus 2 soups, $16 each, and 3 sodas came out to $197? Just make that drive to San Jose and you can get hot pot added to your AYCE for under $30 per person!! 3 stars for the traditional smoky grill tho! read more

He helped grill our food and even explained what was being served at other tables when we were curious (nosy). The environment was friendly and welcoming. We will definitely come again. Under new ownership and it neither looks or tastes anything close to back in the late 1990s. Friendly staffs. Tables and chairs are spread out. Free public parking lot all around. We usually come here for bean curd stew, seafood/crab soft tofu stew, spicy bulgogi, bibimbap, and BBQ chicken or pork with lots of onions. Huge cup of cold water included. Prices are not bad at all for casual Korean lunch, but note that BBQ dinners can be costly nowadays. The banchan side dishes are usually much better with the full BBQ meals. We enjoyed the plain banchans too. Soups and stews are extremely hot in temperature. We left with a happy and fulfilling stomach. Glad they are still in business. Old Korean mom and pop style restaurants are always original and best. Definitely great for large parties or groups. Wide interior. Nothing too fancy here. They are not far from the freeway too. Nice. No lines and no crowds on regular weekdays. You are guaranteed to find lots of available seats and tables here. This place still deserves recognition. It's been here forever. My husband and I absolutely loved our experience at Nak Won Korean BBQ House. The customer service was fantastic and our servers helped us better master and cook at the amazing barbecue table. We ordered the BBQ chicken and Bul Go Gi, their tender beef which we grilled. We thought that the tasty marinade made both items so delicious after we grilled it. It was a very special dining experience and we liked having all of this protein without heavy sauces. We also enjoyed many of their side dishes including the potato, rice, kimchee and more. We loved the streaming hot flavorful beef and vegetable soup as well with plenty to take home and reheat the next day. It was spacious and airy with lots of windows. New experience! This Korean BBQ restaurant is located just across the street from our hotel so on our last evening at the coast we came here for dinner. Located in the Marina Square Shopping Center. After looking through the menu I found it difficult to choose a dish. We had never eaten at a Korean restaurant before. Enter Steve, owner and our server, he gave us some great details and helped us pick. Good conversationalist, entertaining, and funny, I ended up getting the Bi Bim Bap and hubby chose Bul Go Gi Dol Sat Bap. Side dishes were plentiful. The meals were okay and lacked the wow factor for me. I thought Korean restaurants have those grills where you cook your own food but this place was not like that. Maybe the grills were in another part of the restaurant but, honestly, I didn't notice it. We found the prices on the high side. Service-wise we had a pleasant experience and towards the end Steve took a selfie with us. LoL! he's a character and a super nice owner. In Korean the name Nak Won means paradise or heavenly place. Our son insisted we try it, so we did. They use charcoal grills, unlike other Korean AYCE places in the Bay Area, which use propane. Charcoal's always better than propane. We wanted to order a huge combo meal, but Steve suggested 3 meats...spicy pork, short ribs, and an un-marinated sliced ribeye (extra marbling). Don't worry about it being un-marinated....the marbling adds incredible flavor. It came with the usual banchan...kimchi, pickled cucumbers/bean sprouts, jap chae. Steve showed us how to use the grill, suggested the soybean paste and dipping sauce, even got us extra lettuce and jap chae. Tip: do not grill on the foil...the foil is used to help warm up the grate. Grill the meat, put a little rice in a piece of lettuce, dip some meat in the sesame oil, put it on top of the rice, dab some soybean paste on the meat, put a slice of jalapeño and a slice of garlic, roll it up, and tear in to it. It's the best bite in Marina. Everything tasted homemade, from scratch. They use fresh quality ingredients. And you don't feel bloated like you would after eating at a typical AYCE place. My daughter and I had lunch here today. She said this was the best Korean BBQ she's ever had and I couldn't agree more. She rated this restaurant a 5/5. I'm giving this a 4.5/5 because I was stuck with the tab lol 2 meat plates: Sliced Pork Marinated in Special Sauce and Sliced Beef Ribs Marinated in Special Sauce. The meat plates comes with 2 rice bowls, 6 palate cleanser sides, sliced garlic, sliced jalapeños, a dipping sauce (very fermenty but I enjoyed it) and lettuce wraps. There's a great balance of salt, savory, sweet in their marinades. The palate cleansers and lettuce wrap are so refreshing. Combining everything together takes it to a whole new level. Food 5/5 Drinks: 1 tall Cass beer (Korean Beer Brand) and a sprite for my daughter. Beer: light and refreshing. Would recommend. Tab $98. In my opinion, a little expensive for the amount of food. "Could've been better" is a very accurate statement for this place. Just so everyone is aware, this is not your usual KBBQ that you may be use to. There is no All You can eat, and the selection of meats are limited. The added touch of some real charcoals under the grate and top of the gas burners offers some extra flavors, but it can run out quickly during a meal. The service is great if they are not busy because we only witnessed one person greeting, attending, and serving on a weeknight. There was a second staff member but she was busting tables and wasn't helping much with anything else. The selection of meats are again limited. There is no sliced brisket or pork belly. The usual accoutrements are non existent, and getting banchon refilled is even a harder task. All of the marinaded meats are very well prepared. It is just disappointing that you really don't get much of it for the price they are charging. read more

IMPRESSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS: I've had their soft tofu soup and manduguk, both of which are good, but nothing special. Ordering togo will get you portions of their banchan. I think both Korean restaurants in Marina are similar in quality. I did accidentally try to pick up my order from this restaurant, when I in fact ordered from the other Korean restaurant in town, and she did not seem amused of my mistake. This was my last dinner in California before I returned to NYC. The interior was lovely with a warm ambiance. There were wooden walls and window panes on the windows. I really liked the tan, white and black marbled limestone table tops. Some of them had a grill to cook meat in the center. We decided to go for the bulgogi BBQ meat, which came in large thin slices. It was fun to watch the bulgogi being cooked and smelled wonderful as well. While waiting for the bulgogi to be done, we enjoyed some of the banchan, or little appetizers. There were 7 total. My favorite was the glass noodles with bulgogi strips, zucchini, onion and a sprinkling of sesame seeds. The noodles were cooked to perfection and the bulgogi was incredibly well seasoned and flavorful. It was so delicious that we ended up ordering a larger portion of it. I also liked the peanuts in sweet and savory sauce, potatoes in a similar sauce, as well as the some of the veggies, which tasted crispy and fresh. We also tried some hearty soup which was chock full of vegetables: Zucchini, tofu, onions, and mushroom. The soup had a light, pleasant taste. Our bulgogi meat on the grill cooked pretty quickly and I made sure mine was slightly charred. I placed the bulgogi in huge, crunchy lettuce leaves and added the addicting tasty sauce, as well as garlic. It was absolutely delightful! I loved the crispness of the lettuce, the yumminess of the marinated bulgogi, the kick of strong garlic mingled with the amazing salty sauce. Everything was full of flavor and mingled together well. We had a good experience here, however at one point there were flames coming up from the middle of the grill and I couldn't help thinking that was a little dangerous. Also, it seems like the grills might need to be updated, as they look a bit worn out. The service was very friendly and welcoming.
