Unfortunately, this will be the last time I come here. This is my second time at this place. The first time around, everything went swiftly. Today was a turn of events. We went in to get breakfast bagels and after a couple of minutes we get attended by an average build older gentleman, grey hair with rectangular glasses. He asked what he can get us and I proceed to ask, "May I have a flat bagel with..." He tells me, "No you may not." Doesn't say anything else so I'm a bit thrown off. If this was meant as a joke I could have understood, but the altercation just heightened after that. I proceed to ask what those bagels are that looked to me like flat bagels, and without removing his eyes off me says, "Those are not flat." He doesn't offer other options for me. He just stares. I ended up ordering, "whatever was in the whole wheat basket." I felt so uncomfortable after this interaction and I could sense the other customers feeling the same way. I work in customer service and can understand people have bad days, but everything about that interaction was uncalled for. I will not be back because when I think of a breakfast place to visit in the morning, I also expect the people to be at least decent and respectful. read more

I never write reviews but I have to. My wife brought home their bagels and all I can say they are the best bagels in NY. We live in Staten Island, I can't believe he has better bagels. The bageis are PHENOMINAL!!! Then she brought home veggie cream cheese and chicken salad. Everything is top notch. Must go to the Bagelman. read more

I recently went to Bagelman for a bakers dozen bagels using a Groupon certificate.The store itself is clean and is a typical bagel store with bagels and other items available,I ordered my bakers dozen of bagels and found the bagels to be large, fresh and quite tasty.The staff was very friendly and helpful. Bagel man is AMAZING! All the bagels are fresh, toasty on the outside and soft and moist on the inside! They also have the BEST chicken salad ever. I normally won't order chicken salad because I never end up liking it but this chicken salad is to die for!! It has the perfect consistency, spices & taste as well as everything else they have! It's clean, everyone is so nice and the whole place is run to perfection! Highly highly highly recommend to anyone/everyone! Definitely a must have when visiting New York! read more

Merrick has many bagel shops and Bagelman is one of the better ones. I've noticed that Bagelman-Deliman bagels are slightly larger then most competitors. They are also slightly doughy. They get very busy in the morning with all the commuters noshing on the go and running off to catch a morning train. Good egg sandwiches. Tuna is not that good. Staff run at a very fast pace here. This place is so skeevy and dirty I wouldn't even go in there if I didn't work super close by...today I ordered some egg bagels he said no he didn't have them so I said forget it and walked out...now I'm eating pizza at a place who actually wants my money! The last time I went there I overheard the owner talking to a guy about why bagel boss does better than them...well here's why...your place is really dirty! I sat down had a bagel before work...(I was NOT the only one in there) they put all the chairs up WHATEVER that's rude than he starts sweeping around me really gross crap was getting everywhere ! The bagels are decent here, there are some better around, but over all good bagels. The bialies are also good. The service is not too bad, depending on the time of day, in the morning is snappy, in the in between hours it can be a little suspect. I have never had a deli sandwich here though.... read more

Best bagels around! Everything is always fresh and the French toast bagels are amazing. They never short you on portions and the staff is so nice. It has been the same owners and workers for years and this is the only place I'd go. Although the lines can get long, give it a chance. The 2 older women (long dark curly hair) working behind the counter are RUDEST most unprofessional, classless, unhappy, pair of employees behind the counter of a business i have EVER came across in my entire life. And this isnt the first time ive had a problem with these 2 either. Almost every time i go there i get an attitude and i hear them talking loudly about me in front of other customers as im walking out "how i was nasty". VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. First of all, the both of you give nothing but nasty attitudes to customers how could you not expect one back? I was never nasty i was very nice so i dont understand what she is talking about? Maybe the fact that i forgot my boss wanted flavored coffee and she already poured regular i didnt see it being a big deal to pour me a new one. But she huffed and puffed, acted like theirs a coffee shortage and did IN FACT make a big deal. Wow lady, its coffee im pretty sure its not coming out of your paycheck RELAX. So i told her "forget it if its going to be a big deal to pour me a new coffee ill just take that one". This is why i like delis where they have a coffee station for the customers to make their own coffee cus the women behind the counter obviously cant handle it when a customer makes a simple order wrong. If you make it known to a customer that your annoyed over a stupid cup of coffee you shouldnt be working there. Idk what is wrong with these women, especially the one, where they think its ok to behave that way towards PAYING customers let alone their job. If you cant bite your tongue and be kind, friendly, MATURE and RESPECTFUL maybe you should work in a warehouse and not with the public. I also noticed she wasnt wearing gloves while making my food which is very unsanitary. Really delicious bagels (including French Toast if you get there early enough); Probably the best in the area. Assortment of cream cheeses. Good coffee (I really enjoy the cherry chocolate one). Fairly quick service despite frequent long lines. Lines can get pretty long in the mornings. Easy to pick up and commute into the city because of its close proximity to the train station. i work in freeport, and stop in there all the time including weekends and now all of a sudden the prices go up on weekends and back down during the week.........just doesn't seen right that the same egg sandwich should be more on weekends. read more
