Love the Sun-Dried Tomato Basil Tofu cream cheese Spread! Food - 4/5 Value - 3/5 Space - 3/5 Decor - 4/5 Creativity - 4/5 First discovered this place at a food tour - our tour guide mentioned the name of the bagel spread... it was a super long name by the way. At the first mentioned of sun-dried tomato she caught my attention. Then came basil (YES I love Basil) ... Cream cheese (YES YES) ... huh and Tofu?? Did I hear something wrong? Is my asian mother standing behind me and whispering "Tofu Tofu" in my ears? The tour guide repeated again and apparently she also read my mind. "You all probably heard me right the first time. I did say Tofu cream cheese and it's delicious..." She was right about it being delicious, I mean how can it not? Everything I love was in there. You actually cannot taste the tofu in the bagel but an added softness and bounciness. Instead of thick heavy cream cheese with bread when you feel sorry for eating it afterward, this bagel was incredibly light, fluffy, and bouncy like a marshmallow without the sugar. It was like magic. I actually didn't feel sickly bloated and bad about eating the whole bagel in one shot as I usually eat half at a time to combat food coma. Did I mention that the bagel itself was chewy, moist and had the right amount of denseness? Definitely try the everything (or sesame) bagel with the sun-dried tomato basil tofu cream cheese spread. I also tried the Lox bagel with smoked salmon, tomato, onion, and scallion tofu cream cheese but it was not very special and pricy compare to other bagel / deli places. read more

Ugh - bagel spot on prime bedford that is open 24 hours?! sounds like a dream come true. Unfortunately, it errs more on the side of a nightmare for the celiac crowd. I know, I know, I should have known that going into a spot called Bagelsmith would be a mistake, but I thought I would pop in to see what options - if any - they have to please this gluten free palate. Immediately, I noticed the bagel and sandwich heavy menu (not shocking), but I thought I would ask about options just in case. Unfortunately the response I got was a pretty rude "nothing" when I asked about gluten free recommendations. While I don't expect every place on the block to jump at overpriced bread or bagel replacements, I think there may have been some other options (eggs? fruit?), but after that not so friendly response I headed on out. Not sure I will be giving Bagelsmith another try anytime soon. read more

I've been here three times so far. Each time the bagels (i always get the everything bagels) have been fresh, not stale or old. I love that it is open 24 hrs, although i imagine if you go at 4am the bagels might not be the freshest but that is true of any place open 24hrs and which doesn't have a huge late night/early morning clientele. I like the bacon scallion cream cheese. My favorite heavenly combination has become an everything bagel with bacon scallion cream cheese, a fried egg and whitefish salad, yum! I also like that there is no credit card minimum. I have two complaints: 1. All of the three times i have been i have asked about the liverwurst which they have written on a board with their other deli offerings, and each time i have been told they "are out". This last time i went the guy behind the counter told me that not only are they out, they are "always out" and pretty much just don't make it ("i don't know why it's up there on the board since we never have it" or something like that). Terribly disappointing, they should remove it from the board along with anything else it seems they probably advertise but don't carry. 2. The young guy behind the counter with the bandana around his head. Each time i've gone he has not been friendly. Very sullen. It seems like he hates his job, never smiles, and is overall a downer. Extra note: Everytime i have gotten my bagel "toasted" it seems more like it's been warmed up. However, i am okay with that since the bagels are fresh enough for it not to matter. read more

I went to this place at 7:30 am when I mistakenly woke up too early, so I'm not too sure how accurate my review of it is. But that brings me to my first plus about Bagelsmith: they are open 24 hours. I originally wanted to find a place where I could get a juice smoothie or something equally as refreshing, but almost everything in the 5 block radius seemed to be closed. And among those open, none of them advertised that they accepted credit cards with no minimum like Bagelsmith does! So that's another plus. I ordered an egg, ham, and cheese sandwich on a roll ($3.25--pretty decent, I think), which I'm guessing I could get 24 hours a day since the grill is always operational--also a plus for someone who's ever gone to a deli at 4 am and had to get a cold sandwich because they turned off the grill. Anyway, the sandwich was decent--not as great as I'd hoped for the price, but it was pretty fast and I got everything I asked for. I guess I am just picky about my egg to ham to cheese ratio, the latter two ingredients overpowered the first in this case. I also bought a small chocolate chip cookie, which was incredibly rich and felt more like a hunk of chocolate with cookie dough in it. So not entirely a success, I guess. I guess I'd have to hold off all judgment until I return to try some of their spreads (which look promising), but so far I'd say it's a pretty decent place if you're in a hurry or up late hungry with no cash on you. read more

I love these bagels! I never get sandwiches or drinks here, I just bring home fresh, whole bagels to make my own sandwiches. The bagels are always the perfect combination of soft and chewy, and very seeded. My favorites are sesame and everything. Love also that they have mini bagels. The prices are great. The staff are not the friendliest but I don't come here for hospitality, I come here for delicious bagels. (Pro tip: go to Acme smoked fish factory just 10 minutes away on Fridays to get the best smoked salmon, and make your own sandwich.) read more

Oh my. Oh dear. Like Mariah, I feel an obsession coming on. I may have just found my newest way-too-close-for-comfort-as-in-one-block-down-the-street-proximity place to get my carbilicious cravings anytime of the day or night. I am inclined to feel that a shop like this will be akin to the late night Jack in the Box runs that my friends and I used to do in high school. We knew it was an indulgence, it wasn't the healthiest choice and most importantly, it was the most delicious thing to ever hit our stomachs at 2 in the morning. But I digress. I will argue that a bagel with some bacon scallion cream cheese is probably the better choice between given a choice between a whole wheat everything topped with lox and a Sourdough Jack. So I will be the first to say that I welcome this 24 obsession, because I don't think I've been as blown away by bagels, cream cheese and lox as I was by the genius bakers at Bagelsmith. They're fast, friendly and super organized. If you get there in the morning rush it's a wonderfully cheerful way to start your day. Heading out bitterly for work just isn't possible anymore after sinking your teeth into an incredibly moist and dense (almost cake-like) bagel. The lox are simply gorgeous in color and texture, perfectly cured and the combo with bacon scallion cream cheese is quite salty but if that's what you're craving it will blow. you. away. I suggest a pairing with OJ. You'll want a little fruity flavor to balance out the richness. This is a gem of a bagel shop and so help me if they ever close or get bought out by a Noah's. Then things will get ugly on Bedford Ave. But until then they will stay delicious. read more

Prices are tuned just slightly high. However, service is typically acceptably fast, and variety of options is also acceptable. Nothing exceptional to write home about (which isnt doing the "Brooklyn Bagel" any justice), but certainly not a place to avoid either. Editing comment from earlier: Gotta agree with what someone said above about the plastic glove in the bagel... the "kids" who work at this place have about 5 cumulative brain cells all competing for oxygen. I usually order the most simple things ever, and they manage to get it wrong every single time (a plain, toasted bagel...). Just now they got it wrong twice - 1) forgot to put my order in altogether, and told me the reason was that i was getting a "fresh one striaght from the oven" (i watched them grab it out of the basket filled with bagels from many hours ago). 2) when they gave me it, just handed me a plain bagel untoasted without a bag or anything like, "here ya go!" Honestly, I cant fathom the amount of food safety violations that occur behind the scenes, if so many occur right in front of your face. Just totally careless with everyone. After a 5 hr flight and a 3 hour time change, a jetlagged West Coaster is bound to be hungry. Unfortunately, it's 4am. With a whetted appetite and a tired body, I wanted something fast and easy. Something that wouldn't keep me up all night gorged with food, but something that would tide me over. I also wanted something that represented New York. Bagelsmith was just that. I had one of their egg and onion bagels with cream cheese, and decided that it was so satisfying, I'd grab another. Later that day, I stopped by again for another helping of bagels with cream cheese. Bagelsmith appeals to me because of its 24hr services, the fact that I can pay with card for any amount, and the high quality bagel and cream cheese available all day. Good bagels 24 hours a day in Williamsburg. No, it's not a blacksmith. It's a Bagelsmith. And, in their own way, they hammer out decent bagels round the clock. I'm sure the drunken hipsters and Brooklyn transplants must love this late night munchie haven. The bagels here are pretty good although it's one of those bagel places that only put the toppings (sesame seeds, poppy, etc) on top of the bagel and not the bottom. Not too big a deal because the quality and various types of cream cheeses make up for it. I had an everything bagel with cheddar jalapeño cream cheese and it was tasty. Place had a few chairs by the window and no bathroom. It is a small place after all. Late night cravings or early morning cravings can be solved here at this helpful 24hr spot. It also doesn't hurt that the bagels are above average either. read more

The sign outside Bagelsmith says it all... "Bagels for breakfast, bagels for lunch, bagels for dinner!" I saw this and I knew I had to go inside. I looooove bagels, I love everything about bagels. Just the word "bagel" makes me hungry. At this point, though, I was already hungry, so seeing the bagels made me even hungrier. I went into Bagelsmith and ordered a wheat bagel with low-fat cream cheese and fresh lox. Absolutely delicious, toasted just the right amount. The people who work are fast, professional, and very nice. I like being able to go into a store and be asked by someone "Hey man, what can I get you?" Its better than some dude who stands there, bored, making your food as if he was working for a high school pay check. Anyway....they also carry a full line of TeaNY and Tea's Tea ice drinks, a huge plus. To think I could get all of this at, say, 2:30 in the morning after stumbling out of Spike Hill across the street not knowing where in god's name I am is, at the very least, quite comforting. And hunger-inspiring. Only thing I didn't like about Bagelsmith (but the quality of the food completely makes up for it) is that it lacks good seating, or rather any seating at all. There's a couple bar stools but that's it. The shop is very small. If a bagel shop is open 24/7, it should have some good seating for drunk hipsters, no? Take away your bagel-y goods and eat them on the go. I'll probably be doing that many more times in the future. They add on four percent onto their prices with non cash payment. Their employees are absolutely horrific - rude, disrespectful and down right unsanitary. When my darling or I get rumbly in the middle of the night, we can stomp on over and get a cheap, filling and decidedly un-greasy snack. You never let us starve. When I stumble off to work in the morning at the bright and too-sunny hour of 7am, you are there with plump, warm bagels and affordable, delicious organic coffees and teas (oh, organic guatemalan, i love you for your chocolateyness! oh, fiji tea, i love you for your delicious kiwi and papaya notes!). You never let me go thirsty, or let me freeze. When I am stumbling back from a run into the LES and back at mid-day on a holiday tuesday and need a quick carby THING to keep me on my feet, you are there, and you never let me fall. I love you because you let me use my debit card, no matter what. No minimum purchase? Really? Really. Although I typically carry cash for quick bagel bites, I love that on days when I dropped some cash in a hat so some poorer person could eat, I can still eat, too. I love you because you have an ATM that does NOT charge three whole dollars for each transaction. No, your ATM requires only $1.75, which is way better than many other ATMs on the street. So even though I can buy a bagel with my debit/ATM card w/o a minimum, I can get cash out at a bare minimum, too. I love you because you have vegan cream cheese-- in a multitude of varieties, no less. We soft-hearted animal lovers, we lactose-intolerant, we cholesterol-wary bagel eaters-- we all love you for your non-dairy offerings! I love you because your dairy and other spreads are delicious, too-- your cream cheese is the creamiest, your egg salad is not dry and flaking suspiciously at the edges, your hummus tastes tart and creamy at the same time. The bagels here are verrrry good! Decent size, nice and plush with a large variety. They just started making blueberry bagels too! The different flavored cream cheeses are really good as well. I like that they let you add avocado to your sandwich. It's not necessarily the cheapest place, but the food is really good. 1 Bagel with lox, cream cheese, red onion, and avocado with a large coffee costs about $15. They make great ice coffee and have soy milk for the non-dairy drinkers. Kinda sad they don't have almond milk or flavored creamers, but it's all good! Be prepared to stand in line, but the line moves quick. It's usually the same lady working the register and she's quite rude, so don't take it personally. Her tone, occasional chomping on ice cubes while talking to you, and mannerisms scream "I hate my job." Highly recommend this place tho! read more

Try it on an everything bagel & I think you'll change your tune about this place. I'm sticking with this magical combo & not going to stray, but if the jalapeno cream cheese is that good, maybe their other mixes are equally divine? I went in to Bagelsmith this morning, after happening upon it on an adventure through Williamsburg. I am very picky about bagels, but their cinnamon raisin with light cream cheese (my standard order) was perfect. Big, round, chewy bagel, toasted just enough and not too much cream cheese... Mmm The service was fast and their system works well for a small shop where the line is practically out the door. Unfortunately they were out of hummus or I would have gone out on a limb and tried the Pumpernickel-Onion bagel with hummus. They were also out of bacon (this I overheard thanks to the guy before me), so I guess you can't go there without a very flexible order in mind! Only 4 seats in the place, so I walked around outside and then came back and a seat was free. I plan to go back regularly, as it's just around the corner from the Bedford Ave L stop. OMG DELICIOUS! I passed this place on the way to the bar at 3 AM and could not stop thinking (or talking) about it for the next hour. After the bar closed, we headed back to Bagelsmith as I counted my change to see if I could afford butter with my plain bagel. But alas! Once I walked in, I was bombarded with a plethora of delectable goodness. These delicious looking cookies beckoned from the right. They feature a variety of flavors of NON-DAIRY cream cheese. My digestive system thanks you! But I prepared myself for disappointment as I only had $1 + whatever change I could find at the bottom of my bag. Hopefully, I asked, "What is your credit card minimum?" expecting the usual "10 dollars" or "We don't take credit cards." Instead, the guy said, "None. No. Freaking. Way. I ended up with not just one but three bagels (to feed me the next day) and a cookie, so I could satisfactorily try everything I wanted to try. Unlike many places that stoke your appetite and then let you down by tasting mediocre, everything here was delicious. My friend offered me some of her cinnamon raisin bagel with walnut raisin cream cheese, which I highly recommend. I have been overcharged every single time for items that they never put on my bagel. Today I ordered a bagel with cream cheese onions, avocado and tomato. It took the stoner behind the counter two times to get it right because he gave me the wrong bagel. I waited for TEN MINUTES. I paid $5. I eat the bagel later and there are no tomatoes or onions. This has happened EVERY SINGLE TIME. I expect to get what I paid for. It's the only bagel shop in the immediate area and I'm here a lot for work but it's not worth the headache. read more

Bagelsmith's bagels are wonderfuly chewy. I didn't care for cream cheese at all until I had their vegetable spread, but am now hooked. The drink selection is impressive for such a small shop (I don't drink coffee but have been told there's nothing special about their brew). My only gripe is that Bagelsmith makes the worst eggs I've ever had--they consistently taste like a mixture of Egg Beaters and grease. The ordering set up is odd and hard to deal with, they NEVER toast my bagel when I ask them to (NEVER- even when I say "you never toast it when I ask- can you please please toast it? I had a pumpernickel bagel with olive cream cheese, and damn, was it good. I've been here a bunch of times, and, what seems to be contrary from a few other reviews on here, I've had consistently awesome bagels every time. I've been here at a variety of different times, too. 9am, mid-day, and, like last night, after midnight. The bagels are fresh and taste great every time. We always come here for breakfast after yoga and before work. Small spot, but the lines move very quickly. They have great fresh bagels everyday. The ones they don't sell are donated to city harvest, this is cool! Best bagel is probably garlic toasted, you can throw anything on here. We typically have lox from here, good portions, typical pricing, no complaints. Coffee is also reasonably priced for this area, but this might change soon with the new Starbucks opening up. Good spot for breakfast even though you can have bagels anytime as it's opened 24hrs. read more
