Wide variety of fresh made bagels & spreads, ordered "Everything Bagel with Bacon & Scallion Creamcheese" & "Plain with Strawberry Tofu spread" + a large coffee & a bottle of water = $9.80. The bagels is mildly chewy and fresh. With toasting, it adds another crispyness on top of the chewy texture. The bacon & scallion spreads is a new twist for bagel shop and the spread goes well together. The lighter berry yogurt tofu is just as good with the plain bagel. Food: It's all reasonably priced (especially for Brooklyn) and offers a wide selection of breakfast/lunch sandwiches. They proudly boast the use of Boar's Head meats. I ordered up a toasted everything bagel with 2 eggs, turkey bacon, and cheese. I know breakfast sandwiches could be considered a simple meal, but this was delicious. Asking for a simple peppers and onions on an egg and cheese seems pretty standard for breakfast places. But they looked at me like I was asking for a foreign off hand beef No, we don't have peppers. All we have are the ingredients in this one sandwich special. I don't even know what's on that menu. Asks the woman cooking everything, she says, ummmm, no peppers. So you don't have peppers that go on the Western that you feature? Annoyingly, she recognizes what I was showing to them, that they offer it in a sandwich. New York is supposed to be known for the bagels...where are these amazing bagels? No bagel in NYC is yet to beat the Noah's Bagels in California, and it's a chain!!! Bagel Smith has ok bagels but a good variety. Any kind of cream cheese that you can think of they have. It also helps that they have a good selection of coffee (including an iced hazelnut coffee $2.50 for a medium size). Nothing has tasted spectacular but it'll do the job of a bagel with cream cheese. The one thing I'd like to point out - watch how they make your bagels. I have been here twice and both times they have no only gotten the cream cheese wrong but also the bagel and they forgot to put tomatoes in the order. However, when they'd bring the order to the counter they'd recite the right order. WEIRD. Anyways watch your order because I have a feeling this place is 50/50 on getting it right. I will say this though - when I came in the last time to have them redo my order the guy behind the counter not only fixed my order but he also gave me my money back. Ok, in all fairness I stumbled into Bagelsmith after a night of drinking and running around Brooklyn, but I was ridiculously happy to discover 1) They had vegan cream cheese 2) They had PUMPERNICKLE EVERYTHING bagels and 3) They are open 24hrs. I used to come here several times per week when I worked in Williamsburg, and they frequently would get my order wrong (and I wouldn't find this out until I got to work). One time I got a muffin that was still liquid in the middle, completely uncooked!!! (I spent probably 10 minutes trying to convince myself this is how it was supposed to be, but my coworkers advised me otherwise). They gave me another muffin no hassle when I came in to complain, though. Went back to Bagelsmith to give it another whirl and they hit it out of the park! Got a toasted ET with Veggie CC and it was magical. I have been back twice since - Lorimer and Bedford locations. I love that there are real veggies in the veggie cream cheese - carrots, peppers, herbs, etc. It's such a sad excuse for Veggie cream cheese when shops have regular cream cheese with a few green onions and tout it as "Veggie". I normally go to Baker's Dozen in GP (best bagels around, hands down), but I have come here on three occasions after getting off the L. The first two times, I got a simply toasted sesame with plain cream cheese. I have to say the bagels just did not taste all that fresh, and were quite small. They had a chewiness to them that reminded me day old bagels. I think this is more the style/method they prepare the bagels, not that they were actually day old (or at least I hope not). My most recent and most definitely last time here, it was a travesty. Let me tell you about it... Imagine you had a somewhat sleepless night. You've commuted already about 45 minutes through rush hour, and all you can think about is just a fat bacon egg and cheese on a bagel. Mouth watering, walking through sweltering subway station after subway station, taking transfer after transfer, only to emerge from the subway station into the searing summer sun. Although you want to go to your regular haunt, your eyes fall onto a hand rolled, fresh bagel shop just 15 feet away. It was OK two times you have been, and you weigh out your options: walk 20 minutes to get your fix or just bite the bullet and go to the OK place. You being the slave to your desires that you are, you cannot resist the hunger. You go to wait on line, it's about 9 people long. You place your order, and you are all standing there. The line does not seem to be moving, no one knows why. You look ahead quizzically. The cashier and a customer are exchanging words and money, but for some reason there is no movement forward. You are stuck in line limbo. No one likes line limbo. You notice those around you are likewise antsy. All of a sudden you see your bagel has been prepared, sitting in a bad next to cashier. Yet still about 5 bodies separate you from your prized possession. Your perfectly prepared pouch of provisions. Yet you cannot attain it, but is OK as the result is inevitable. You will consume it. Finally it is your turn, you exchange your money, you do not care that it took you 10 minutes to walk 5 feet, it is goddamn bacon egg n cheese time. The sandwich is finally in your possession. You wait, though, until you get to the park. You want to relax while eating, you want to enjoy this scintillating savory snacks while sitting on a shaded bench. At the park, you gleefully unwrap your bacon, egg, and cheese. You are immediately hit with the sweet aroma of bacon with subtle hints of egg and dough. Salivating you take a monstrous bite, and with each chew you realize something is amiss. Wait...it can't be...is this...is this a whole wheat bagel?? As a carb lover--as a TRUE carb lover--you know that whole wheat anything is never as good as its regular counterpart. Pizza, bagel, bread, you name it. Dejected you look at the sandwich. It is a sad sandwich without a shine, there is no glow to it anymore. You become disillusioned, but you are still hungry so you eat on. With each bite your hunger decreased but your resentment grows. Why, why have the bagel Gods frowned upon you? Suddenly you realize it is because you rejected the true bagel shop, you have strayed from the right path and you flirted with the false bagel finaglers. You seek repentance and swear that you will only patronize the purveyors of perfectly prepared bagels. You have learned your lesson and you will spread the word. read more

I came here at 11:30 am on a Saturday and was pleasantly surprised to find there was no line. I ordered a multi grain bagel lightly toasted with walnut raisin cream cheese and bacon. While the bagel wasn't the huge NY bagel I'd been hoping for it was still a respectable size and was filling enough. The bagel lightly toasted was perfect - wasn't too hard or too soft.
