First trip to Brooklyn for Manhattan only visitors:) Came over to Smorgasburg, enjoyed that event then browsed the artsy fleas! Grabbed an awesome pizza next door to Bagelsmith. We were up on a bus trip and departing Manhattan at 6pm. Wanted a meal for the ride home. We ordered everything bagel sandwiches. The young man taking the order was friendly and accommodating and while they were not busy we waited but in the meantime I spied the coconut macaroons dipped in chocolate. The little cashier said they were "delicious." OMG was she right! Ate one while waiting then ended up buying 3 more! Took our sandwiches on the run and enjoyed them immensely on the bus ride home with comments from envious friends! Def be back when we cruise over to the Boro again. read more

Bagels are good but the service and organization of the interior is awful. The employees all seem to hate their job and it's impossible to tell in the cluster of people who is waiting in line or for their order. For the amount this place charges for bagels, the least you could expect is to not be treated like the Soup Nazi. I like the idea of supporting local business, but the Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks across the street have become much more welcoming options. If you love bagels and hate people, then look no further. Also, don't bother asking for them to toast your bagel. They either ignore this request entirely, or have the world's weakest toaster in the back. It's possible that they just hold it under a desk lamp for a few seconds. I'd like to mention that I've never written a Yelp review before. Due to the numerous times that I've left this place losing faith in humanity, I feel it is my duty to warn others (and the owner). Why I went in for a third time? Fool me once, fool me twice... fool me thrice, and I deserve it. I could have gone back in and asked for my money back, but instead I just took a bite, spit it out and threw the rest in the trash and just kept walking, and that's that. No need to go back in for a couple bucks. I'll explain. I get my bagels well done with cream cheese. The first time, I asked for it well done, walked home, started eating it and it was raw. I ate half, got pissed off because I hate wasting food, and threw the rest away. If you like a toasted bagel you'll know the complete disappointment of a raw one. Its like going for a sip of Sprite and coming up with water, or getting diet sweetener when expecting sugar. Its a bit of shock. Went in again a few weeks later, asked for the same thing I always get (from Verb - they've got it down), and I told them what happened last time. The girl told me that their toaster won't toast bagels well done. Whuuuuuuuu??? But... ummm.... like... you're... a bagel shop... you can't... Well, give it to me as well done as you can. That's kind of ridiculous that your toaster can't handle it... It was barely toasted. Here's where my stupidity comes in. I went back months later because I wanted to see if they had an egg bagel (shaking things up a little) and the Bagel Guy Store on N3rd was closed(down?). You know how the story ends. Went to Verb. Got my well done sesame bagel, and all is right with the world once more. Maybe Bagelsmith should get a new toaster (and I'm familiar with the bagels are so good that they don't need to be toasted thing - not that Bagelsmith is saying that - and that argument from some bakeries/bagel shops is hogwash). Being new to the neighborhood, I am in need of a bagel shop. My husband and I decided to try Bagelsmith on a beautiful Saturday mid-morning and had a disappointing experience. The shop itself is fine-very crowded, but most bagel shops are. We didn't wait long before ordering and we got two wheat everything bagels with very different toppings. We probably waited about 5 minutes before our names were called and we were on our way. All that was fine. We walked with our bagels to the park and sat down to eat. That is when I discovered that both bagels were exactly the same. Even though mine had a post-it that very clearly spelled out my order, it had the same toppings that Austin ordered. We were hungry and didn't want to walk all the way back and wait, etc. so I ate about half of mine. We agreed that the veggie cream cheese wasn't as thick and rich as we were expecting. It was kind of thin. Mine also had toppings that I wouldn't normally order so it wasn't super enjoyable. That being said, the bagel itself was very good. Any English language dictionary could offer a reviewer a plethora of words to describe something. The only word that comes to mind when I think of Bagelsmith is 'blech'. Don't bother looking for that in the dictionary, just go to Bagelsmith. The only reason I ventured into this Bedford Avenue bagel shop is because The Bagel Store ran out of bacon. I would've at least given The Bagel Store a chance sans bacon if I knew how awful my egg sandwich was going to be. The only resemblance their bagels have to "real bagels" is their shape. The taste was more like puffy day-old air, no flavor or texture. I don't think they even gave me a whole egg in my sandwich, and the bacon I was so desperately seeking, tasted like it came out of a pre-cooked package and nuked for half a second. It tasted like a sandwich made by someone who just didn't care. Summarily my cat Rosie who is basically a walking garbage disposal, wanted nothing to do with it. A piece of sandwich fell on the floor, she sniffed it and walked away. I don't know why anyone would go here. I don't get all the great reviews. This place sucked. read more

I really liked this place but they jacked their prices over the weekend. My regular bagel/coffee combo used to cost me $4.50. Today I found out it now costs $6.25. You're crazy if you think I'm paying that for a BAGEL AND COFFEE, two of the most cheaply produced items one could possibly ask for. It's a shame because I liked this place and the people there, but I won't be going back. I've been going to Bagelsmith (both locations) for a few years, but the Lorimer location is reliably better. The last 2 times I've come here, the orders have been totally botched (one time ordered and paid for salmon cream cheese, got scallion on the wrong bagel, another time all the veggies were forgotten...). The prices have jumped ($2 for a small coffee?) and their ordering system is awful. Plus, even when it's slow, the waits are long. Not sure what happened, but I wish this place were better because it's 2 blocks away from me. read more

Went here this morning for the first time. I got the salted bagel toasted with butter it was great. Its been a long time since I had a salted bagel. The girl at the register however was a little salty too, so I am not giving 5 stars. You see I had to go to the register girl because I lost my voice and well it helps if someone with a voice can yell over the counter where you normally order bagels. But register girl says to me get this "in the future you order over there" so I said to register girl I would have but I lost my voice and it hurts for me to yell over the counter thing, so register girl not wavering says to me "the girl over there can hear you". Right before you hit the L train and go to work who needs the attitude. I will go back but I will order my bagels in bulk and freeze em to avoid the little snots that work there. read more

Wonderful bagels with a wide variety of cream cheese and tofu cream cheese flavors. They also take credit cards for any amount, which is awesome when you spent all your cash the night before. The only problem is the store is a little disorganized and it can be hard to make sure you get the right order. read more

This review is not about the bagels but the customer service. I had a horrible experience in the morning when getting a bagel and coffee here. I asked for cream cheese on the side with my bagel and for an iced coffee. The people at the register tried to make me buy 2 sides of cream cheese and didn't understand that I just wanted 1 side. It took a minute for them to take the charge off and they were extremely rude about it. Then, they gave me my iced coffee with the top not sealed and it spilled all over the counter and onto the floor. And, they just ignored it!! I asked if they had something to clean it up and they pointed to the napkin holder for me to grab 100's of napkins and try to soak it all up myself right under their nose. I am completely appalled by what happened and hope that the management teams reconsiders who they hire. read more

This place used to be the BEST! Its quickly gone to hell in a hand basket since they turned over the only competent employees they had leaving them with new employees who have no training or background on bagels in general. Bagels are a thing here in NY there are certain basic facts employees need to know. What scooped means, what light means, approximately how many people a 1/4 pound of lox will feed. The revolving door of employees just continues. The food is excellent bagels are great but they've held people hostage because they are the only bagel game in the hood-not really for much longer. From registers going down to employees walking off the floor because they are unequipped to deal with anything customer service related. There is never a senior person onsite someone is always calling someone for help at another location as people stand in line waiting. Josh is the only person who is worth keeping because he tries to think on his feet but he still needs a lot of training. Today I was told -the minis aren't fresh are you sure you want one, the two girls at the front (especially the on on the register ) so nasty really and its because when i was there last the day the register shut down i tried to hep them get their shit together i mean they are ill equip to have any customer service interactions. Anthony I see all your scripted responses on yelp to the obvious decline in service but yet no changes made. You need to clean house get ownership in there for a month and get things back in order-today i paid for my order-only to find out my CC was declined and the girls at the register just handed me a receipt and let me go with free food.The attitudes of the girls up front is beyond deplorable-try retaining a secret shopper so you can see the cold hard facts. People I'm in the service industry-the place is a complete shit show-used to be so on point....its like the blind leading the blind. What is there to say about this classic New York Bagelshop at the center of Williamsburg, Brooklyn? I remeber this place being there about eight years ago right before Brooklyn became the place to be. It was good then and it's great now. Everything you could want in a bagelshop: great bagels, great spreads, fresh OJ, and a very nice selection of muffins. If you are a fan of whitefish salad order it here, and if you are thinking: wtf is that? Then, I highly recommend you be adventurous and give it a try on your bagel of choice, but if it were me, I'd go with an everything, not toasted, lettuce, tomato, and onion. The chocolate chip muffin is delicious and loaded with chips, and the blueberry is very good as well. The staff here is typical New York-we-ain't-afraid-of-gettin'-real-wit-you, which I personally love, but it might be a bit of a culture shock for those coming outside of the tristate area. Now the fact that they are 24/7 now was a big and pleasant surprise for me. They are making fresh bagels around the clock too, so no matter when you come in, the bagel is top notch. This place is not really a "dine-in" spot, but if yo really have to, there's a nice bar at the window and a bench outside. The pricing for this place is pretty fair for a NY bagelshop, especially for the quality you are getting. I haven't tried all of the menu items, but other patrons seem to be ordering all over the menu, consistently and habitually. If you are new to NYC and you have not been over to Williamsburg, I highly recommend stopping there, and if you are hungry for breakfast, a quick bite, or a late night snack then head on over to Bagelsmith on Bedford Ave. read more

Workers literally walk by, making eye contact, without offering assistance. I thought compared to their busy mornings, I'd have great service without the line. i'm gonna go out on a limb here and declare love for this place. that said, i've never ordered anything at a breakfast time, or what i guess would be a busy time for someone to want bagels ( i don't believe in eating breakfast food at breakfast time) but i have faith in them. i've always had great bagels here, and heard rave reviews from a friend for their berry tofu too. i've also had one of the greatest choc chip muffins of my young life at this place, which is saying something. there are a lot of places like this around, but this is my favorite of the moment. actually...i kind of want to go there right now... read more

All I want you to know is this: I was a teaching assistant, and the month before the semester started, the professor I was working for took me out to get drinks at this little underground Japanese place in the East Village. Anyway. He forgot I was a vegetarian and ordered all this food I couldn't eat so I just kind of sat there BUT THE THING WAS he order like, 50 lychee martinis and I am SURE you see where this is going. The next morning I woke up in a Williamsburg apartment that wasn't mine and a friend, who conveniently had a car, drove me six blocks to Bagelsmith because I was near death and when I put that WHOLE WHEAT EVERYTHING WITH LOW FAT CREAM CHEESE in my mouth every damn tastebud and neuron in me sparked to life, and that, my friends, is how I even made it here, to tell you about the bagels. Just left Bagelsmith. Horrible experience. I'll be honest it is almost 5 am on a Tuesday morning but when your place of business is open 24/7 you should offer the full menu at all times. The guys working the counter wanted nothing to do with us or our hot orders that needed the grill. A direct quote was 'our grill isn't on if you want something from it it's gonna be a very long time.' Basically he was trying to get us to order anything that was easiest for him to make. I'll admit we came in at a very late hour on a Monday going into Tuesday but we went there because friends told us about it. If i wanted just a bagel with cream cheese i would have just gone home. We wanted breakfast sandwiches and the guys working acted as if it was the craziest thing we could ever request. Just close late night if you don't want to serve customers at all hours. read more

I love Bagelsmith but recently (yesterday) I went to Bagelsmith and was disappointed about the amount of cream cheese that was put on my bagel. Usually I go to Bagelsmith and have a delicious bagel with the right amount of cream cheese (or a little too much). But yesterday the bagel I received did not even have enough cream cheese to cover the entire bagel. I had the olive cream cheese which is amazing, but I barely had enough to cover half my bagel and it was thinly spread out. Of the two serendipitous occasions where they've competently executed my order, I was nonetheless disappointed by the hasty preparation that somehow warrants 7$ and a 10 minute wait. Really good bagels. Unbeatable for the price you pay. Open 24/7 which is a huge bonus if you are up early or out late.

This used to be a staple for me after a long night of bar-hopping when I needed a quick and satisfying dose of carbs before going to sleep it off. Even when the line is long, the staff takes care of your order quickly and it definitely always hits the spot. But over five years of living in the area, I've slowly expanded my bagel repertoire and realized that, while the location(s) and hours are convenient here, and the bagels are actually quite delicious, they are just nowhere near worth a 4 or 5 star rating. If you've got a bagel craving at an odd hour, chances are this is the place for you (unless you happen to be near Bread Brothers on Bushwick, which is arguably much better, even if the service is a lot slower and not as friendly). But if you're looking for a good bagel experience in the city... You're probably not going to find it in north Brooklyn. Apologies to my fellow Williamsburgers, but if you've had the bagels in south Brooklyn or, especially, in Staten Island, you'll start to notice each time you get a bagel here that you are more and more let down by the experience. read more
