I am all for supporting local businesses! I pulled up Yelp in search of a place to try. This place popped up so I thought I'd stop by & give it a try. Stopped in on a Saturday for early lunch. It wasn't busy at all. There was only 1 lady working. Not sure if she was the owner. She wasn't super friendly, no smile or anything when I walked in & I said '"hi" but she wasn't rude either. I think she does everything from taking the order, making our food & baking & prepping?! I ordered the special which was the chicken artichoke with a little side pasta salad. It was ok. I read a few other reviews and sounds like this business has been here for a while. Maybe I need to try something else. I'm not sure. Stopped into Baguettes for the first time the other, in search of a coffee drink. While being next door at the aquactic center for a birthday party. Talked to the owner (Paula) who was very cordial, as I asked about their drinks. She noted she had coffee that's French pressed which I'm familiar with since I've had my own. While talking to Paul's I learned she makes all of his break from scratch every morning amd has done so for the 18 yrs Baguettes had been open in that plaza. When you walk in you have a mini bar to sit at and chat with the friendly lady behind the counter. You see the yummy treats in the case to choose from. I asked for a glass to get some water in the canister. I ordered the Alaskan salmon patty and substituted mustard for the pesto mayo with broccoli salad. After I ordered, I got to see the cute dining area with the little chef showing specials. I enjoyed my sandwich with the pretty little thank you sticker at the edge. This little sentiment makes me feel valued as a customer. I would return as a customer to try some of the other sandwiches and maybe a sweet treat. My friend recommended Baguettes & I was like cool. I LOVE sandwiches. It's located in an old strip mall & appears to be small when you first walk in. But there is a dining room full of plenty of places to sit. And a dog friendly patio outside. I ordered the grilled ham & cheese panini and didn't omit anything, I'm usually a little picky. It had ham, cream cheese, homemade sweet apricot preserves and sliced jalapenos on house made sourdough ciabatta. I loved it! Ate half & was full but ate the other half as soon as I got home. Hubby took a bite & said it was good. Mine came with house made chips & salsa. I ate every bit of that, was the bomb! My friend order ed Angie's turkey sandwich. It had turkey breast, cream cheese, house made plum pepper jam, alfalfa sprouts, granny smith apples served on sourdough focaccia. She said it was good. She had house made soup & said it was good! I recommended to my sister & niece and they will be going there soon! Paula is a little quiet, probably busy concentrating on your order but friendly if you strike up a conversation. This is one of my favorite small businesses in Elk Grove. Service is friendly and fast and the café is really cute with plenty of seating. I popped in on a Saturday during lunch and ordered a Cubano sandwich and one of their popular turkey Panini sandwiches that comes with avocado, bacon, and a delicious chipotle aïoli. The pulled pork on the Cubano sandwich was amazing, the pork was tender, and had the most delicious flavor. And I absolutely loved my Panini sandwich, especially the bread which was so soft and fresh. However, I think my favorite thing was their homemade tortilla chips and salsa. The tortilla chips were out of this world, they were actually flour chips and had a wonderful almost Smokey seasoning to them. The salsa was so unique, it also tasted as though the peppers may have been roasted which gave it a nice flavor and had the right amount of kick. Highly recommend Baguettes! read more

We ordered the California Turkey and the Roasted Turkey Panini. All the breads are baked right in the shop, and they taste amazing! The focaccia had a nice dusting of herbs and was soft and tasty. It came with tortilla chips, which they also made in-house, along with a nice, smoky salsa. The food was delicious, well proportioned, and made with care. We tried this place again to see if it was the same as when it opened. We arrived late lunch and there were only three cars in the lot and I think 2 were from the place. I poked my head in and made sure they were open. I ordered the zupa soup and the tri tip special. The soup has Italian sausage in it. It had good flavor but was kind of cold. I suggested that she make the soups hotter. She said it was boiling it the pot so I just turned it off. Are you not supposed to have food at a certain temperature. The sandwich was just ok , not much meat in it. When I got to the end I opened it up and there wasn't anymore meat in it. My wife got the California turkey and it was had focaccia bread but it was really soggy and didn't taste to good. Her avocado was cut weird and stuck out of the sandwich. It needed to be sliced thinner or smashed down. The turkey wasn't made by they like before.I It tasted like from package meats. I guess they want to make more money and skimpy on quality like when they opened long ago. Oh well read more

Today is my birthday and I wanted to treat myself. I tried the Brie and the Ham & Cheese sandwiches and todays seasonal salad was the broccoli salad. My boyfriend and I walked here with our dog. We ordered coffee and a homemade slice of carrot cake. The owner was very welcoming and set up a table for us to sit outside with our dog and even offered him water. The French press coffee and the carrot cake were delicious! On our way out, we ordered a Reuben sandwich to go, and it was very flavorful. The bread and brisket were obviously homemade and so good. I love coming to Baguettes! My sister and I have Paula's food at least once a month (she might go over more haha ) We have never had a bad experience to date. If you get your food early enough, you'll be lucky to get fresh fried chips and homemade salsa as a side - too good! We always get the veggie sandwich- it hits every time. Fresh veggies loaded onto focaccia with a hummus spread. My mom flip flops between the roasted turkey panini and the California turkey. I'll have to snap photos next time I'm there of our food. It's not small either, there is a seating area around the side. Paula is running her small biz just fine! She's as friendly as it gets when you're running it all alone. We support it! read more

Absolutely LOVE this place! Hands down the best deli we've found since moving from the Bay Area a few years ago. The portions are perfectly sized, everything is home made and flavor does not disappoint! I love the brie and apple sandwich, but also loved the red pepper jam from the turkey sandwich so I'll often add the jam for a pleasant mix of the 2. Every sandwich really is great and you can't go wrong. Hubs loves the piggies and the club and Paula's homemade sides are a fantastic addition! Soups and sides change daily for added bonus! AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I could give it less than 1 star I would have. My husband and I went into Baguettes yesterday to grab a quick sandwich before heading home. What a mistake! The sandwich tasted like it was drenched in mustard - probably to cover up the rancid meat inside the sandwich. Since yesterday afternoon we have both been violently throwing up. We didn't even get to the dessert, it smelled like almonds that had gone bad, so straight into the trash. Never again! UPDATE: We both do not have covid (AS WE DO NOT HAVE ANY SYMPTOMS!) - as the owner suggested. And she can keep her nasty smelling desserts. I won't even bother reading the negative reviews on this place. Why? Been going here for years and the quality of the food is beyond reproach. One of the best Reuben sandwiches I've ever had can be found here. The breakfast sandwiches are outstanding as well. The owner's (Paula) creative takes on many of the 'traditional' sandwiches are great. All of the bread is homemade as well as the brisket and tri tip being done 'in-house'. It's been awhile since I was last here. I are here before the temporary move to EG Blvd. I'm newly retired and have been on the lookout for breakfast spots. I was not expecting to see a dining area around the corner and was even more surprised when Paula told me that this expansion was made 6 years ago! Where did the time fly?? Today's visit did not disappoint! I had the ham, apricot preserves and fresh jalapeños on grilled ciabatta - every bit as yummy as I remembered ordering all those years ago! I chose pasta salad for the side, figuring I'd be package a 1/2 sandwich and it up for lunch later but it was so yummy, just finished it right then and there! Based on the response from the owner less than 10 minutes after my review, I would say I hit a nerve! I was actually going to say in my review that I didn't feel like the person that I presumed was the owner was very happy. Now I know she is in fact the owner & Paula, you really should look at moving on. It's crystal clear that this does not bring you joy & it translates through to your food & the attitude you give your customers. I watched as the lady in front of me asked nicely what the soups were & you rudely replied "they're listed here" & walked away while pointing to a small board near the register. Please. Instead of getting defensive for what wasn't even a horrible review, maybe reevaluate your career & if it's something you even want to do anymore. It doesn't seem like it is. Plenty of other locally owned places to spend my money at! Also, from searching past reviews I'm not the only one who has mentioned how rude you are! Mixed feeling about this place. Came here prior a few years back prior to the pandemic, was in Elk Grove for some work training this week and for lunch, a local referred my to this place and I'm so glad I came back (twice for seconds). The food was fresh, handmade and super delicious!! Chatted with the owner, she's a one person show, but man, she holds down the fort! The first impression was a bit awkward for me. Not being here before I walked in and wasn't even greeted. I grabbed a menu from the register and went and sat at an open chair. No one acknowledged me or my friend. Finally my buddy asked do we order at our table or the counter. From a gentlemen who was standing behind the counter the entire time. You get a free treat when you check in here FYI. The pastry I chose to try while here on my visit was the cinnamon roll which I was told was baked the night before. After a brief wait the roll was brought out and sadly it was not hot and gooey.. the way I prefer my cinnamon rolls. Rather it was barely warm and dense. I ordered the breakfast sandwich but for my meat I asked for turkey. The sandwich was pretty good and very satisfying. The side of potatoes was greasy and I didn't really have enough room to eat them after finishing my sandwich. Next time I come in I will order just the sandwich and pass on pastry.
