Based on the response from the owner less than 10 minutes after my review, I would say I hit a nerve! I was actually going to say in my review that I didn't feel like the person that I presumed was the owner was very happy. Now I know she is in fact the owner & Paula, you really should look at moving on. It's crystal clear that this does not bring you joy & it translates through to your food & the attitude you give your customers. I watched as the lady in front of me asked nicely what the soups were & you rudely replied "they're listed here" & walked away while pointing to a small board near the register. Please. Instead of getting defensive for what wasn't even a horrible review, maybe reevaluate your career & if it's something you even want to do anymore. It doesn't seem like it is. Plenty of other locally owned places to spend my money at! Also, from searching past reviews I'm not the only one who has mentioned how rude you are! Mixed feeling about this place. I want to support local but both times I've been, the only lady working has had a sour & unfriendly attitude bc she appears to be super busy. I get being busy but you could at least be a little welcoming. Maybe hiring help would not be such a bad idea. The 1st time I ordered the turkey & Brie sandwich & despite the almost 20 minute wait, it was a tasty sandwich. The chips & salsa that came with it were good but a very small portion. The next time my mom & I both ordered the banh mi. I guess my expectations should have been lower but this was a serious miss. The bread was just not it. Maybe toasting it would've helped a little, but probably not enough. The pork was dry & there was a sauce on the sandwich that isn't really a traditional topping. Hard pass. Came here prior a few years back prior to the pandemic, was in Elk Grove for some work training this week and for lunch, a local referred my to this place and I'm so glad I came back (twice for seconds). The food was fresh, handmade and super delicious!! Chatted with the owner, she's a one person show, but man, she holds down the fort! The first impression was a bit awkward for me. Not being here before I walked in and wasn't even greeted. I grabbed a menu from the register and went and sat at an open chair. No one acknowledged me or my friend. Finally my buddy asked do we order at our table or the counter. From a gentlemen who was standing behind the counter the entire time. You get a free treat when you check in here FYI. The pastry I chose to try while here on my visit was the cinnamon roll which I was told was baked the night before. After a brief wait the roll was brought out and sadly it was not hot and gooey.. the way I prefer my cinnamon rolls. Rather it was barely warm and dense. I ordered the breakfast sandwich but for my meat I asked for turkey. The sandwich was pretty good and very satisfying. The side of potatoes was greasy and I didn't really have enough room to eat them after finishing my sandwich. Next time I come in I will order just the sandwich and pass on pastry. This place has the best sandwiches in Elk Grove. Most everything is homemade, including the bread and desserts. There was great customer service. The only suggestion for improvement is to make the lemonade and iced tea homemade too. Not sure about the tea, but lemonade was def from powder. read more

There are so many hidden gems in Elk Grove, but Baguettes is our new favorite place to go. It would help if they cooked the potatoes longer so when I pierce it, I can pick it up. That was not the case, I had to pierce deeply if I can get my fork in so it can be edible. Tuna sandwich looked like fish out of water cut up and had olive oil and some seasoning that was eeek I could not even lift the bread without all of the fish dropping in the basket. The hype has been real, the reality was average. Don't get me wrong, it was tasty and I didn't run into any customer service issues. I just thought $24 for a sandwich and a breakfast burrito was a little much. Plenty of friends and family have raved and posted tasty pictures from here. So, when I had the chance to swing by, I made it a point too. I don't know what I was expecting, maybe a little more La Bou like. Their menu definitely surprised me. I wasn't expecting that many variations of sandwiches, breakfast options, and burgers. Kudos for the variety, which made it hard to decide what to order. I was in a time crunch so I went with the California Turkey (sub Garlic May for the Chipotle Mayo) for myself, and the Breakfast Piggy Burrito for J (sans onions and potatoes). I was offered a side and chose the chips and salsa. The interior is somewhat like a little movie set, with overhangs over both kitchen areas to emulate awnings of stores/cafes. Inside there is various seating all throughout the restaurant. However, you order at the register and then sit and wait for your food. My order was to-go, so I just sat at the table near the door to wait. They weren't crowded, so it wasn't an issue. I did notice they also offer wine and beer, if you are staying. I could get down with that! The wait for the food wasn't bad. I was a little anxious, becuase I had a champtionship game to get to at Barthalomew down the road. Since I thought this was more like a La Bou, I thought it would be quicker. Luckily, I made it just in time. The nice young gal brought my bag to me and I was on my way. When I finally sat down to eat, two things popped out at me. The focaccia looked amazing and the chips looked fun and different too. Not your average out of the bag tortilla chips. They were fried flour tortillas in different colors, homemade. I loved them. The salsa was a little to spicy for my bones, but I ate some of it, until the spice built up too much. The portion was decent size and all the ingredients seemed fresh. The focaccia was really good and had great flavor and texture. J enjoyed his burrito, but said it wasn't anything special. He used the salsa, which he said gave it a little more flavor. Overall, it was decent. It wasn't something I'd necessarily rave about to others. But, I would try it again. Their menu is so vast, many things sound pretty good. I appreciated that with a Yelp check-in you get a free brownie. The employee even let me switch it for a homemade chocolate chip cookie instead. Except, the cookie wasn't good. At all. It lacked any flavor or sweetness. I told J it was like eating a gluten sugar free cookie. Ugh, that was not up to par. I will say that the broccoli salad and chicken salad were lacking in flavor so I must have COVID. I should of went for the chips and salsa. It's sad that a place with such great food has such atrocious customer service. My sister and I went back for Sunday brunch and waited over 30 minutes for our food. There were only 8 other guests at the restaurant and they were already eating their food. In the meantime, we kept asking about the status and were told repeatedly that it was "almost done". After 35 minutes, my entree was delivered, but not my sisters. We inquired AGAIN on the status and were told they were backed up because they had to do a catering order. After 10 more minutes, her sandwich finally arrived and we asked to see the manager. The owner came to our table and told us that they had call-in and catering orders they had to fulfill. We told her that since it was a Sunday, she should have anticipated for such demand and that this was the 3rd time we had the same issue. The owner the asked us, "Well, what do you want? Do you want me to comp your food?" Personally, I think an apology would have sufficed, but her response really angered us and we responded yes. She then asked, "Are you still gonna eat your food since you're getting your money back?" At that point, we wanted nothing to do with this place and said no. The owner then grabbed both our plates and stormed to the kitchen. We sat for a while fuming and wondering what to do next. No one came to give us our money so we went to the cashier stand. The cashier was taking orders so we waited. However, when she completed her transaction, she walked away. We waited AGAIN and no one did anything. So we approached the closest staff member and asked for our refund. The cashier came back and said, "Hold a sec, while I help these customers." So, we waited AGAIN and finally, another staff member gave us our money back. I have been to many restaurants and have never been treated this rudely on purpose. Came back for lunch today... Baguettes is the only sandwich that I crave! It was around 2pm, so I was pleased to walk in and not have to wait in line like last time! I decided to try a new sandwich so I went with the California BLT. I was expecting a cold sandwich - but it was actually grilled, panini style! It was warm, gooey and cheesy! I love how they added avocado and arugula - they should've renamed the sandwich! I love their homemade chips and salsa but I tried the broccoli salad today instead. It was really good! And normally I don't like crunchy broccoli. The sauce was good and not too heavy. Employees weren't overwhelmed with orders like my last visit and they followed up with people and asked how their food was, and also acknowledged everyone as they left, which was nice. When we were having our morning coffee we turned on the tv to Good Day Sacramento and saw this place!! We decided to jump into the shower and check this place out!! As we walked towards the door there was a display board of the specials! We walked thru the door and received a big SMILE and a cheery HELLO!! They offer a nice variety of food here. Breakfast and lunch stuff!! Oooooh! We were here early in the morning and they said they serve both!! They have a really nice homie feel decor! A hip country chic!! They used wine barrels to make their tables! Very cool. I ordered their burger special. It's a burger with tender beef brisket and onion rings inside the burger!! Fantastic concept!! It comes with house made fries!! This comes with house made sauce. It's good. Too much sauce though. I would ask it on the side next time. I wish it comes with pickles, though. That would have made it complete!! I also ordered a coffee! It's a nice size French press coffee!! GREAT touch!! Loved it!! I saw cinnamon rolls on tv! Made me drool! They were out!! BUMMER!! I finally got to eat here when I had time to kill in Elk Grove. Their menu is so compelling. It's super quaint inside and the tables are really comfortable and arranged really well and the lighting is relaxing. I got the brie and apple in salad form and it came with basic vinegar/oil and mayo with a partial baguette on the side. It was delicious and fresh and I enjoyed every bit of it. Came to Baguettes for lunch one day and it was packed! This place has you order food at the front and then they will bring your food to you when it's ready. I did not expect to wait 40 minutes so this is not an ideal place to go on your lunch break. The ambiance/decor was very cool, it resembled a country home with barrels as seats. Now for the food. I ordered the french dip with chorizo chili. My gf ordered the philly cheesesteak with the tamale soup. I was a fan of my sandwich because the pieces roast beef thin and the au jus was tasty. I was here for lunch today and it wasn't really busy, there were just a few people there. I ordered the cheese and ham panini half sandwich with chips and salsa and a drink. It cost about $14. The sandwich itself was average. The bread kept falling apart though, it definitely needed to be toasted longer. I was disappointed when I saw that the chips were store bought, because they use to be homemade. The salsa was great though! I think $14 is way too much for this, it would be a lot better around the $8 mark for the half sandwich and a side. I asked about Vegan options and there was one item with the word Vegan in it.. other than that, I was offered vegetarian options and it seems to occur a lot. People mistaken it for the same thing. So, that's what I had.. the item with the word Vegan in it.. i had the Vegan Burger for breakfast with their own version of fries which is unlike a shape of any other I've seen/had. My brother thought it was great.. The burger, I know I didn't like it with foccacia bread. The patty is made of quinoa and I don't know if it's that these nutrient rich components make you full faster or it was whatever for me but I had half of the burger and I was done. For a deli that was touted by friends and fellow yelpers as THE spot in Elk Grove, I was sadly less than impressed. A delis bread and butter should be their food, but my first experience (yes, I will give them another shot), left me underwhelmed. I do give them points when it comes to creativity on their menu. Every sandwich was a twist on the traditional, with some classic ingredients and an odd combination of special additions. I ordered the french dip sandwich. The meat itself was particularly flavorful, was kind of hard to chew and required a lot of au jus to really enjoy. The bread tasted like a cheap store-bought roll. The strange addition in this case - a whole roasted poblano pepper, seemed out of place in terms of texture and flavor. I was also disappointed by the side of pasta salad, which was just a cold, mass-batch mix of noodles and beans with relatively little flavor. A deli is all about sandwiches and there is plenty of menu to explore here. Hopefully my second go-round turns out to be better than my first! read more

Sorry Elk Grove, I am not a fan. I have had this place bookmarked prior to the relocation, and for whatever reason continued to fail to go. Recently I was in need of some carbs in a big way so I went on over to Baguettes. When I arrived their was only one couple ordering (which I was happy about since I read reviews about their pace of preparation) so soon after I placed my order of Poblano French Dip and the Portabella Special with blue cheese potato salad. Within 10 minutes I was paying my tab of $23 and out the door. Once I arrived home, I was instantly saddened by the size of my sandwich and the pale look of the bread. I took my 1st bit. . .the bread was on the gooier side (not cooked long enough) but the beef was tasty. I decided to continue to eat while dipping the sandwich in the au jus. . . Bleh!!!! The au jus was salty and of course made the bread more gooier. I gave up and just ate the meat from the sandwich. I don't know if my hopes were too high but Elk Grove loves this place, this Yelper does not. Gooey uncooked bread, salty gravy and super high prices; this did not satisfy my need for carbs that particular day. So later on in the day I went to the Nugget up the street, paid $8 for my favorite, The Fire Cracker, and was very satisfied with this purchase (twice the size I might add). I've lived in Elk Grove my whole life and if you know anything about the culture here you know this little town is hard pressed for good 'easy' cuisine. I had a delicious pastrami sandwich that I cannot wait to have another one next time! We both had a bowl of tri-tip Chili soup that was so tasty!! Everything is made from scratch at this place! So I had to write an update based off of their burgers. Holy. $#*!. They are amazing! I literally am someone who does not normally like red meat, but I couldn't pass up the Banh Mi burger! They pickle their own carrot/daikon mixture and top with jalapenos. But the real star is that patty. That mouth-watering, soul-enhancing patty. When it comes to service you have to be willing to wait for good quality. Each meal is made to order. Sure it is counter service, but you are eating better food then you will at almost any other restaurant in Elk Grove. Enjoy a beer or some fresh french press and get ready to DIG IN! read more
