Literally the only reason to get off a cruise ship in Nassau. The wife and I got off the ship solely for this place. We decided to walk (about fifteen minutes) to get here and we are so glad we did. Outside the door was a woman giving samples of a local alcohol, and while it was delicious we didn't want to buy any because we would have had to check in and pick it up later after our cruise ended. The inside of the place was very small and bustling with other people and workers. You can see directly into the room where they were making the cakes fresh. It smelled so good in there. A worker told us to try all the different samples and we did! Our favorite was the original rum cake and the coffee one. We decided to buy six and they told us we would get a FREE shot at their outdoor bar if we show them the receipt. The rum cakes are delicious and dangerous because you can finish one on your own within moments because they are so sweet, rum forward and small (in a good way). We even had the worker helping us box our cakes pick her favorite couple to put in our box. Prices are reasonable and if you can't make it here, they also over shipping on their website! The rum cake is a 20 minute walk from the port. Try to walk there in a group I definitely wouldn't walk there alone because it is a dangerous area. Once we arrive there was a very long line. Be patient when getting there they are getting orders in and out so know what you want before you get to the front. The staff is very rude and direct. The samples they had were the piña colada and the pecan. You are not able to request for a sample of a different kind of cake. They do have a plethora of flavors. I like Irish cream so I decided to get the Irish cream cake. The cake was delicious and moist. It was perfect you will be a little tipsy after eating it. They were reasonably priced they are about seven dollars each and they do have different sizes but for the travel size it is seven dollars. When in Nassau, do yourself a favor and visit the "Bahamas Rum Cake Factory". If you're a fan of this irresistibly delicious cake as I am, this is the place where it all started. This was my first time ever visiting the city of Nassau as well as my first time checking out the country of the Bahamas. And what made this convenient is that the cruise ship that stopped here (as Nassau is one of the main ports), we had a guided tour that gave us 15 minutes to check this place out. Located directly on Bay St. and nestled in between Devaux St. and Christie St., this place has been in operation since the year 2000. And ever since 2014, it has been recognized as the official rum cake of the Bahamas. This place is relatively small but still big enough to accommodate tours from various buses and shuttles. Inside, you will find samples of their original rum cake and I've got to tell you, this was moist, sweet, and absolutely delicious. You will also find other very popular flavors in their gift shop including Piña colada, pineapple, key lime, and several others. There is also a small area selling several Bahamian hot sauces, marinades, sodas, and ever apparel to take back home. The staff/employees were very accommodating even though our tour group thoroughly enjoyed the factory. The exterior of the building was colorful and absolutely stood out even when driving on busy Bay St. I ended up purchasing several boxes of their original rum cake (priced at $7 USD) to take home as well to give for family & friends. Best of all, this place accepts cash, debit, as well as Apple/Google Pay. And what makes their factory special is that the cakes have roughly a 2-year shelf life if left unopened. All in all, this place is excellent but keep in the mind, the cakes are quite sweet. So if that is to your liking, I would highly recommend visiting this place. I walked by the Rum Cake Factory at 8:00, and they didn't open until 10:00, but the person inside invited me in anyway, and gave me samples of this delicious and moist rum cake! I tried the Pina Colada and the banana. You could definitely taste the rum inside! I promised to stop and buy some cakes on the way back, but on the way back later that afternoon the place was packed with a food tour, so I kept walking. I was so lucky to get the place to myself before they opened and sample and see the crew making the cakes in the back! What a fun place, and the building is painted just beautifully! Visited this place because of the amazing smell when we rode by! When we walked in, the customer service was pure trash from the dark-skinned woman. She was curt, telling us to go to the left instead of saying, "Hi, Welcome." The young man, who handled the samples, was very pleasant and welcoming. The best rum cake I've ever had! Our taxi driver Craig Sherman of Sherman Taxi and Tours gave us a personal tour of Nassau. The Rum Cake Factory was one of the number one spots he took us to. Our guide brought us here on a tour through Nassau. The rum cake was really good, but I wish the driver would've been more specific on what was going to happen. This was our first stop right off the cruise ship, and just felt like the vibe was really uneasy still. Like alot of the guest were sketched out and unsure when he brought us here. Looking back I really wish I hadn't rushed through and made a purchase. The place was spotless and very well organized, and the staff was super friendly, and the cake that my wife and I sampled was really delicious. My advice to the owners would be to see if they could become the last stop on the tour and not the first. Midway through our tour the driver dropped us off at the Atlantis hotel. We paid him in full for the tour, and he said he'd pick us up in an hour. Some of the people were really reluctant to pay, but did, and once he came back and got us I feel as if we were all a bit more comfortable and it was at that time that people started to make purchases over near the queens staircase which was our last stop. We still would've had to come back past the rum cake spot, on the way back. So maybe that would help bring in more business. I took a Carnival Cruise from Miami, Florida and this tour I took stopped by the Bahamas Rum Cake Factory and I'm glad it did. When we went in, they gave us some samples and I was hooked. It was so moist and delicious. I tired the chocolate and coffee one and I knew I had to buy some to take back home. Then price was very reasonable and they took Visa so that made it nice and easy. Initially when our "tour guide" took us to this store front for a tasting I was irritated believing we were scammed. After the first bite of the sample my opinion changed immediately. Tasting these rum cakes is mandatory when going to Nassau. They were also reasonably priced. It was great seeing the women in the back package up the cakes as we shopped. The kitchen area was also very clean reaffirming our want for these cakes. There were so many flavors for example pina colada, pineapple, amaretto, key lime pie, Irish cream and others.
