Let me start off by saying that I…read moredon't Usually trust plumbing as they are usually high priced and will do anything to sell the job. Not the case with D and L plumbing. I had purchased my house a few years ago from a flip company. They never installed a drain hole for the washing machine. I was referred to D and L plumbing by a friend. I figured what risk is there if I just call for a quote. Right from the start I could tell this was going to be a better experience than I had dealt with in the past. He had me explain the issue and said he would be over the next day to asses it. He showed up right when he said he would and I showed him the lack of drain and showed him the crawl space so he can see where the drain should have been. He went into the crawl space and walked right over to where the drain should have been and said. " you actually already have a drain here it's just blocked". I was stunned. He went back up stairs and removed the blockage and put the washer drain hose into the drain inlet. I started the washer reluctantly but he assured me it would be fine. lo and behold , the washer started to drain with no issues. I was in awe of what just happened. Remember when I said I don't trust plumbers. I had had 2 quotes for $1500 and $1800 to " add a drain ". Now I am no plumber by any means and I am very uneducated regarding the whole plumbing process. I had thought that since I had gotten 2 quotes that were similar in price, this must be what it is going to cost. Goes to show you how honest and forthcoming this company really is. He was willing to lose the " job " and do the right thing and perform a simple fix. That is how you know a company will do the right thing by the customer and keep you in the loop the whole process. The secretary took my message and said she would call back; I received no callback. At 2:00 PM an older man arrived at my home unannounced. He inspected the job for about five minutes, then handed me an invoice for $175. I told him I had not been informed there would be a charge and that their website advertises free estimates; he responded loudly and rudely and demanded payment. When I refused he threatened me -- saying I would "be sorry" if I didn't pay he kept repeating the fact that I would be sorry so what are you going to do are you going to pay me now ???? I said no I don't think I have to pay you because no fee was ever disclosed to me please call your secretary and ask her she never mentioned a fee ....but He refused I tried to reason with him but he kept on threatening me. So he continued to threaten me, and that he would report me to the town for alleged illegal construction if I didn't pay him. I said go ahead so he left. I then called the office to speak to the secretary as I am panicked I said what is going on why is he asking me to pay him and why is he threatening me ?... I said what kind of business are you running ????... this is crazy....and she said oh well I don't know what conversation you guys had .... And so why did you let him in? I said because he was on my door and I was not expecting him. I was caught off guard you never called me to tell me that he was coming and or that there was a charge so you better have a talk with him and He just threatened me . She said she would talk to him when he got back to the office. Afterwards I was completely shocked and traumatized of this whole incident and of this man ... I tried to forget about it all and move on from this but then a week later had a town inspector visit (after a complaint from this plumber); there was no construction and the inspector found nothing. I was completely shocked that he actually did call and the threat that he made was actually true. So what else is he capable of? I was thinking. What kind of a businessman goes around threatening people???... what a despicable human being I thought I have never in my life encountered somebody like him. Only then I I felt the need to warn others about him and tell my story and experience with person and this is why I'm leaving this review To help others . I called Consumer Affairs and I was told there's no license on file for him and that he also has another complaint against him I was like wow this isn't his first time doing this?... I felt so frightened and taken advantage of, especially being home alone. I reported the incident to Consumer Affairs and am considering filing a police report. I do not recommend this business. Be careful who let into your house especially if you are a woman and home alone.
