I rarely write reviews. But this experience tested my patient. I feel if you are reading my review then it may help you. Owner and myself used to belong to a business group. I remodeled my office and the builder wanted to have their subcontractor install the floor. I told the contractor that I know some one and will go through him. So I did had Baila Floor installed my floor We installed cork floor and were given 10 years warranty. Based on his recommendation I had to change casters on some of our work stools so floor can be protected. After couple of years some of the plank started showing wear. After few requests floor manufacturer sent some one for evaluation but they refused to replace. I had some extra planks and requested that at least send some one and replace those planks. In spite of numerous phone calls and in person request, it never happened. After 9 years when some more areas of floor got serious damage I approached him again. By then the floor manufacture had changed hands and I was told that the same material is no longer available and that I have to replace the whole floor. Company provided material but I had to pay his labor. Which I agreed. I was charged $1500 to have old floor removed. I had agreed not knowing what is involved. I happened to be in the office when floor was being removed and it took two workers only two hours. It was like picking loose pieces sitting on the floor. I was shocked that I got charged $1500 for two hours of such an easy job. When I asked him to give me some understanding as to why such high charges he started offending me for being not serious and me being offensive to him. I told him that I will pay what I agreed and signed, but at least I need some explanation for the charges for this particular part of the job. But I never got any satisfactory explanation. read more

The mechanics lien went stale and my attorney has contacted this shady company via letters to remove or face a petition incurring costs for me and them. The owner is an unethical and unprofessional individual who filed a chapter 11 and has no integrity in doing the right thing. I even have a judgment from the CA Contractors License Board for him to pay a miserly $120 but did he pay it? Of course not! I would avoid this company like the plague! read more

Baila floors was recommended to us by Farmer's insurance as they were part of their Certified Installer program. Baila was prompt in the pre-sale process but completely dropped the ball after that. They only gave me 3 flooring choices for a quick install. However they missed their materials delivery 3 times, once blaming the floods in east coast, another time blaming the wholesaler while I waited onsihem ote with the loading dock for my building reserved. Eventually they got the materials in the unit, but kept delaying my install date. By then Farmer's insurance was so tired of them that they kicked them out of their Certified Installers program. All in all a completely unprofessional organization, Michael is soft-spoken and nice but proved grossly incompetent. A relatively simple job took me 3 months to get done because of their incompetency and false promises. read more

We came to Baila Floors because of the strong Yelp reviews, and were very disappointed by our experience. We purchased flooring, a runner, and a carpet. The sales experience was good, Michael was helpful and responsive. Our construction crew installed the flooring and we had no issues there. Getting Baila Floors to install our runner and carpet was a nightmare. It took FIVE APPOINTMENTS to get them installed due to cancellations, no shows, and mistakes on the installer's part. Baila Floors did not offer any compensation for the inconvenience, didn't seem very concerned or apologetic, and we had to contact them repeatedly to resolve the issue. - June 15th: installer cancels appointment - Aug. 29th: installer doesn't show for appointment - Sept. 5th: installer arrives nearly 2 hours late. installs runner, brings the wrong carpet - Sept. 17th: installer doesn't show up for appointment - Oct. 1st: carpet is finally installed read more

I would back up other reviews on Edward Carias of Baila Flooring and pass onto you that the company is not your focus, its the installer you want in your corner. And you'll know that I'm truthful when I tell you this story. I have a single family home in Redwood Shores and I asked Baila Flooring to let me have Edward based on my due diligence in his customer reviews (2/2017). After the whole downstairs was re-floored, including 2 bathrooms, Edward turned to me with a grin and told me he didn't like my bathroom water hook ups for both toilets and sinks, so he at his expense, changed them out for new hardware. initial consultation was good concerning color matching for flooring, counter tops for kitchen etc. The terrible experience started when Michael stated he could also take over the project of sanding the entire house' hardwood flooring. The initial person spoke NO english and the whole kitchen needed to be redone. The result was that they sanded the floor so thin that as of today (over 1 year later) the floor in the kitchen only cracks open. This does NOT happen with the rest of the house. When we complaint they did not want to take any responsibility. Most likely we have to rip out the floor in the kitchen soon to redo it all over. read more

Ernesto came to measure on Monday, the install was done by Tuesday afternoon. My situation was probably a bit unique --I just wanted to swap out carpet on my townhouse that I am putting on the market soon, so I was not picky about the carpet and just selected a neutral-colored one that was in stock and readily available. After that, I was handed off to Martin, the project manager who coordinated times with the installation team. The installers showed up Tuesday morning right on time, and got to work. By mid-afternoon they'd finished the job and cleaned up. My only issue might be it ended up costing a bit more than I had initially wanted to spend --but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for, and we definitely, definitely got our money's worth. Quality job all-around! Their showroom happens to be down the street from my office, so I stopped by to settle the bill --if you're in the area, the showroom is actually pretty well stocked with all kinds of options beyond what you might see if you just make a home appointment. This review is for Michael, the owner. I was looking to change all of our carpet in our two story home to engineered wood. I went on their website and effortlessly schedule a consultation for two days later. Michael arrived 6pm on the dot and brought with him a wide variety of samples based on my description of what I wanted. I was impressed with his knowledge in wood flooring as well as his infinite patience in answering my questions. He also offered many helpful suggestions. Michael is very responsive with both calls and emails. In the end, we're going with someone different because of a friend's referral, but no one I spoke to was as professional as Michael in customer service. read more

I did some online research through yelp and called around several places to have them come out and run some estimates. Out of everyone who came out and provided guidance, I remembered Michael the best since he was a cat person and was friendly towards our cats. Some flooring stores provided questionable suggestions on how they would install the floors. Since I live within a HOA structured community, I had to adhere to HOA rules, which required floor padding that met a certain criteria. I chose FCI since they were offering the Friends and Family discount on Yelp, plus Michael was willing to meet me at a price that fit within my budget. He knew I was leaning towards bamboo flooring and offered me a better value than the Teragren brand they carried. I only wanted flooring in my room and closet, which was less than 200 square feet, and I was getting some very high quotes like over $3000 from some places for engineered floating maple. Michael gave me the option to move out my own furniture of he offered furniture removal, but the quote was a bit high compared to other companies so I chose to remove the furniture on my own. I selected my color and confirmed a date with him to have their installer come. I asked how they picked their installers and if they were part of FCI, he explained that they rank their installers based on previous jobs and go with the ones that rank the highest. The thing with bamboo is that it has to acclimate within the environment for a couple of days before installation to get used to the moisture and temperature of the home. I set up the appointment with Michael's colleague, my window was between 12 to 2pm and of course, the installer shows up exactly at 2pm. The installer, Aram, comes the week before and delivers nine 60-pound packages of bamboo flooring to my place. Aram has to bring one package up at a time. This takes like close to 45 minutes. After he leaves, I notice that the color of the bamboo was not the one I selected, so I call up Michael to let him know. He owns up to the mistake and says he will reorder the correct color and have it delivered again. This was kind of a hassle since I had to take off from work early again. To make the delivery process faster this time I helped Michael's colleague dolly up the bamboo and help him take down the other ones. Aram and his colleague Jose comes and installs the bamboo flooring. I ask that they do not use the mold in the closet since my closet organizer would not fit otherwise once I try to reassemble it. He helped me find a solution and did not proceed with any work until he had my confirmation on how the floors would be laid out. Aram explained the process along the way. At the end of the day he did a great job, I was so impressed with his work. He and Jose cleaned up the place, removed all the junk and even wiped down the new floor. He could have swept up better on the balcony, as there was still some dust. The best part was that he didn't mind the cats roaming around and closed the doors when he worked so my cats wouldn't walk into the room. FCI ordered an additional box of bamboo that was left unused. I asked Michael if I could get a refund and he explained they ordered additional boxes for jobs as they can't predict correct calculation after the cutting process. I guess the additional bamboo could be used to repair damaged pieces in the future. This was the first time we have experience with bamboo flooring so we didn't know what fumes we were breathing the next day when we walked into our unit. Apparently, the smell of the bamboo was so strong it filled our entire unit. We tried airing it out for 24 hours, then 48 hours but the smell didn't go away. I contacted Michael and Aram with my concerns and they were helpful. Aram stopped by to show us the glue he used. We got someone to come and test to make sure what we were smelling wasn't harmful as one of our cats vomited outside the bedroom door one night. We discovered that the fumes came from the finish used on the bamboo and that we had to "bake" the room, meaning turn up the heater all the way up while opening a crack of the window to let in the fresh air while baking the room to get rid of the smell. Through this week ordeal Michael was patient with us, he didn't demand the other half of the payment and let us seek out help to make sure everything checked out. In the end, we made a good choice going with FCI. Price was still a bit high but the service, job quality, and dealing with professional people made up for it. read more

After visiting the showroom I would highly recommend it to anyone who needs a first hand look at all of the options. I've visited a number of showrooms in the area who also offer the same lines of carpet and hardwood but the overall layout really helped me identify the different choices. Michael, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable as well which made the process of understanding the different price ranges and unique options to choose from much easier for me personally. The pre-finished hardwood samples were filled with new styles and finishes. I was amazed at the variety of bamboo choices, some of which surprised me because they almost didn't appear to be bamboo at all. I would recommend making a visit to have to opportunity to really understand what modern selections are available. I know it made an significant impact on which decision I would make. read more

Baila Floors taught me a $9,000 lesson. Learn from my mistake. I hired Baila to install a tile floor, stone countertop, and tile backsplash in my kitchen. They were not the cheapest estimate but I completely bought into the whole "Diamond Certified" contractor thing. (Fairly sure that's a scam, but can't prove it beyond my experience.) I should have known something was up after I asked for a reference on the particular floor tile I was having installed. They contacted a past customer that lived in my area but didn't get a response. A short list of grievances: *Uneven floor tiles *Countertop split at the seam a few days after the install *Backsplash tile cut unevenly *ALWAYS late *Frequently didn't show and had to rescheduled their work (after I'd taken time off from work) *Forgot to buy ALL the materials, and had to reschedule work *Had to push back first day of work because all workers called out sick *Told me sink install was included in estimate then said the plumbing wasn't part of that. (cost me $300 to hire a plumber at the last minute) *They didn't pay one of the contractors so he called me, drunk, left a voicemail demanding I pay him or he'd put a lien on my house. Then sent me several texts saying the same. *Would go dark for weeks at a time, then claim they had tried to contact me *Harassed me for payment on invoices already paid, or not yet received *Promised they'd do rework then demanded I pay for replacement material to fix their poor workmanship *Wanted to send the drunk contractor over to fix his work. (later back away from this demand) *When their subcontractors didn't get answers from the Project Manager I was forced to be the main point of contact and coordinate work. (on numerous occasions) *The boss for one of the subs went on vacation half way through the project and told me that he didn't trust his workers so the work would have to wait till he returned 3 weeks later. *The owner promised me things would improve a few times, they never did. And finally, I was recently told that many of Baila's customers were refusing to pay them. Makes sense given the experience I had. Why 2 stars? Well, they at least did something. They didn't take my money and run. If this was a rental house and I didn't have to live with it myself I suppose it would be ok. However, I could have hired some guys from the Home Depot parking lot and gotten the same (maybe better) result. In the end, I'm looking to hire another contractor to completely redo all their work. Don't make the same mistake as me. If the quality of the end result matters, do yourself a favor and find another contractor. This is a short review of my experience. If you're on the edge of hiring them and want to hear the whole saga, DM me and I'll send you the full story. It's also worth noting that I never, not once, asked for discount. I've only ever asked them for a quality installation and this levelheaded partnership approach got me nowhere. At one point, they did promise me a $500 discount, but never gave it to me. Not shocked. RESPONSE TO MICHAEL'S COMMENT: 1. I emailed you last week informing you I was leaving a poor review. 2. I have no reason to lie. The job was supposed to start July 5th and since then I haven't once asked for a discount and I don't want a freebie. (Anyone who wants to see the invoices, payment dates, emails, photos, or listen to phone messages I'm happy to provide.) 3. My phone number and email address haven't changed. I haven't hired a contractor yet, if you'd like to come to the table and revisit. Again, I only a quality installation. However, I'm not going to pay you for the rework. 4. Your sub approved the change to the floor install. Even so, the counter top and back splash are enough points to indicate a trend of poor workmanship. (As you've said, it's not your fault if this was couple of bad subs. This is easy enough to fix, send over a better sub and let go of the bad ones.) read more

Summary: did a very sloppy job and made up excuses More details: My parents had some water seep under their laminate floor in the hallway next to the bathroom. To avoid water damage, we took out some laminate pieces. But putting them back turned out to be tricky, so we looked for professional help. My parents also wanted to install tile floors in the bathrooms. Ernesto from Baila floors claimed that they could do all that and use existing laminate. The two guys who installed tiles actually did a decent job. One exception was transitions between existing carpet and tiles, which looked somewhat uneven at places. They did not want to put anything on top of the transitions, saying that this is a standard practice. Maybe so, provided that it would look good as-is, but it did not. Then it all went downhill from there. Ernesto and Sean showed up a few days later to put back the laminate and finish up. They could not really do a decent job with the laminate, i.e. they could not make the laminate pieces snap together, so the result looked very sloppy. Ernesto claimed that he warned about it ahead of time (which he did not) and that the laminate was damaged by water (it was not). But the worst part was that when they put the baseboards back, there were huge gaps between the baseboards and the walls (as wide as 1/4 inch in some places). Although touch-up and painting was not part of the contract, leaving such gaps and saying that we should hire a handyman or a painter to caulk it is unacceptable. Frustrated with the results, I called Ernesto a few days later. He promised to rectify some of the most glaring issues and said that he would call me back to schedule a visit. Update 11/13/2012: FCI sent another contractor to fix some of the issues. Most of the scratches have been disguised and some have disappeared completely, but a few still remain. The baseboards have all been painted, but unfortunately, some of the color from the baseboards got on the doorframes, which are a different color, so the doorframes need to be re-touched. Also, some of the gaps between the baseboards and the flooring were filled with filler and it has now come apart, so there is a visible line of goo on the bottom side of the baseboards, then a line of space, and then another visible line of goo on the flooring. I hope they can fix this soon. Right now, I have no estimated date of completion. *********** FCI is a big company with locally owned franchises. The locally owned franchises help you through the design/purchase process and then subcontract out the installation work to local subcontractors. I chose to work with FCI because I wanted them to manage the project, and I thought there would be some standard of quality. I was very wrong. I hired the Palo Alto FCI to completely re-floor my condo - tile in the bathrooms and bamboo flooring everywhere else. On a positive note, the tile contractors were great - they were on time, they were very professional, and their work is amazing. I'm very happy with that part. The bamboo flooring has been a long unfortunate story. Some of the highlights: - they started on 7/25 and I was told it would take 4-5 days to complete. It is now 10/20, the project is not finished, and there is no end in sight. - there are many scratches, some are fairly deep, that the contractors left in the flooring. I have had masking tape on my floor to make the scratches easy to locate (and hopefully fix) since August. Many scratches still remain, although some were "fixed" with a minwax marking pen by an FCI subcontractor. - the baseboards were an epic disaster. Some baseboards were missing, the paint was peeling off, many were cut too short, leaving large gaps at corners, and because the concrete subfloor was not completely leveled, there are many large gaps between the baseboards and the bamboo flooring. - many transition pieces (between flooring and sliding doors and between bamboo flooring and tile) were either broken due to nails being driven in to the wood too far or some transitions were just missing altogether, exposing the concrete subfloor. I could go on and on. I took pictures of all the issues, compiled a list, detailing each issue, and sent it to FCI. FCI periodically (about once every 2-3 weeks) sends over a contractor to fix 1-2 issues (there were over 60) on the list. I am then left having to harass them to fix the rest of the issues on the list. One prime example was they sent a guy to repaint the baseboards. He painted most of them, except for the ones in the closets. That was several weeks ago. The baseboards in my closets STILL need painting. The worst part is the communication. If I don't constantly initiate communication, they ignore my project completely. Weeks have gone by with no progress. Save yourself. Hire someone else. read more

In June of 2016 we decided to put our house in Sunnyvale up for sale. The house needed to be painted and the carpet needed to be replaced. We soon discovered that underneath the carpet there was a hardwood floor. We shopped around and got a few bits from different company's and then we call Ernesto with BAILA FLOORS. Used Balia Floors to install carpeting in three rooms. Michael showed up with a nice selection of samples and helped my wife pick a great color and pattern that matched the rest of the house. They were on time and very professional on the install. They had to move a giant billiard table which had not been moved in fifteen years. My husband and I have been talking about replacing our carpeting throughout our house for two years; and just couldn't agree on a solution. The problem: Our house is 20 years old with tall ceilings and I wanted to keep the light airy feeling with an updated look. My husband had his furniture and I had my furniture and a friend designed and made our dinning room table as a wedding present and there's a grandfather's chest which has resulted in an eclectic combination of furniture. It has been difficult to agree on what to do to pull it altogether. We are also on a slab floor that had evidence of cracks (old entry tile as major cracking). The solution: The Floor Coverings International designer came to the house and made suggestions and explained why this solution would work or that would work well with the walls, fireplace and our furniture. She also talked to us about our lifestyle, traffic patterns and long term goals (were we staying or moving in a few years?). I felt she understood the challenge and the 'look' I wanted to accomplish. It was great to have some one to bounce ideas with. The results: We chose a med/dark walnut Armstrong wood floor downstairs and a burber neutral carpet upstairs for the bedroom and office. They also installed white 3" baseboards that really add an updated look. The extras: I really think they took pride in their workmanship and treated my home as if it were their own. We moved out while the work was being done but they kept us informed. They took extra time to level the slab floor so the new flooring would last. When they removed the downstairs toilet they found it was all rusted and suggested a new one. We bought it and they installed. They did any neccessary trimming of doors due to the new floor thickness. I have a new house and love it. I have been working on remodeling my guest bathroom for about 6 years now....doing a little at a time. Finally, it was time to demolish the OLD linoleum floor and install some new tile. I had a particularily tricky issue to deal with....the shower stone had been installed several years ago and I did not have any left over tiles I could use for style and color matching. :( Laura H. (Design Associate) from Floor Coverings International was just awesome! She came to my home on numerous occasions, bringing all types of tile samples in the effort to find some that went well with the existing tile. She was patient with my indecisiveness....and offered her truthful opinions about each sample we considered. She even put all the tile samples into a computer program with my bathroom layout, so I could visualize how it would look with the white vanity and granite, etc. After many trips to my home, Laura then offered to meet me at several of the flooring distributors shops, so I could continue to search for just the right tile. After that, I went to Other vendors tile stores to look at their tile offerings. I didn't find ANYTHING that was as PERFECT as the tile that Laura had suggested to me initially. She is a Master at selecting just the right tile color, style, and design. I couldn't have done this without her assistance. The prices were great.....I was on a strict budget and so Laura did her very best to get me the best price on the tile and on the installation. Laura immediately scheduled my job and then, the Project Manager, Cesar, called me to assist with the scheduling of the work...in just 2 days! Two tile installers arrived, on time, on the scheduled day. along with Cesar the PM, and Laura! All were there to ensure that everything went perfectly! They were fantastic! The installers removed my old flooring and installed the new tile (in a diagonal pattern) efficiently and expertly. Everything was neat and tidy when they finished their work. The tile looks Fantastic and enhances my bathroom so much that I couldn't wait to finish the rest of the work! I came across Floor Coverings International at the San Jose Home and Garden Show. I met Michael the owner of FCI and he was very personable, listen to what I had to say. After we talked I got his business card and said to call him when I was ready. I went over to the store and was introduce to Chevonne who was the design associate. I set up a time for her to come over with some samples, and with her help I was able to pick out the vinyl color and accent strip to go with the vinyl. Then I was introduced to Adam who was the project manager on all the jobs. We set up a date to start the installation of the floor. The installation was a two day job. The works where very detailed in there work and did a great job. The job was done on time and once the job was done the works cleaned up after them self. I then needed to get counter tops Chevonne and Adam introduced me to a Granite place. This was great because this place had left over Granite that was free and I only had to pay for fabrication and installation. That was a nice savings. Then I had Chevonne help me with the back splash. She helped me pick out the color and a few accent peaces to go with the title. Then Adam gave me a call to set up a day. And said it would be a two day job. Once again the works did a great job they finish on time and then cleaned up after them self. All in all I was very please and would use them again. RP read more

We had a great experience working with FCI and our first contact with them was through the San Jose Home Show at the Convention Center. We called FCI along with a few other companies and their professionalism and flexibility is what ultimately guided us to go with them. Our original plan was to try and match the original hardwood floor on the first floor of our townhouse and to update the carpet and bathroom flooring as well. Adam, our project manager, worked with us to find the right flooring colors and to find alternatives as I wanted a vinyl bathroom flooring that was similar to the hardwood floor we were installing. The installers were quick, clean, and respectful and FCI was quick to address any issues that arose. They were focused on our satisfaction and were willing to work within our budget when we unexpectedly decided to replace the original hardwood floor as well. No issue with the floors that I got polished through Baila Floors. The rating is for the painting services that they referred called as Payless Painting, who did a horrible job of painting all the doors without using primer nor sanding. The paint was literally peeling off within a week. The painter doesn't not respond nor does Baila Floors who referred me Chris the guy who runs the Payless Painting services, Gilroy. This company did an ok job under very difficult circumstances. I'm renting but the landlord left it to me to pull the 40-year-old carpet and rehab the 81-year-old hardwood. Budget I have--but not for a house I don't own. We pulled the carpet ourselves, but needed an old heater return patched in the dining room and all the tack strips carefully pulled up. Landlord insisted on licensed, bonded labor. Michael's an awesome salesman. Somehow I went with him even though he came in 15% higher than the other two bids. His crew did a solid job on the patch, wood filler notwithstanding, but wouldn't touch the tack-strips for fear of putting in scratches that weren't going to be sanded out (apparently the routine is to sand, restain, and polyurethane). Management had to step up to it. They did the same job on the tack strips that I would have...they just did it much faster. I can tell on my floors where the guy just wanted to finish and go to Disneyland (literally...he did exactly that the night he finished). The patch isn't razor perfect like the 1929 original, but it's still an impressive job. The tack strips came up quite rough in spots, but my patience wouldn't have been any better and it would have cost me a month on my knees to do it myself. I wrote the check. Three hours feeling around on my hands and knees later and I had the last 3 dozen or so nails and carpet staples out. The floors look positively regal after just one coat of Johnson's Olde Fashioned Floor Wax and a loving buff. Move in day: not a scratch. Y'all can keep your polyurethane for those silly composite wood-like floors. Nothing beats the real thing. Don't take me too seriously. Refinishing furniture is a hobby of mine. I'm a mechanical engineer on actual spacecraft for a living. I'm a really bad customer. I look a lot closer than most would and can hardly help wanting to pitch in. I'd recommend this crew for a straightforward sand/stain/poly job, the bigger the better. They'd make quick solid work of it. Their installers are pretty good too. Ask them about getting your own herringbone pattern done in 2" tongue-and-groove red oak. It's a lot harder to install than it sounds. This is a difficult review to write. We bought floor covering from Flor because we wanted the product to cover the floor where pets had made big stains in the carpet. We were told about the product Flor by our daughter and that seemed the answer. One can replace square tiles one by one if a pet soils somewhere. We bought the Flor product at their store in Palo Alto and then asked for installers. We were told about Michael at Floor Coverings International which I called the next day. Michael came out promptly and was knowledgeable and polite, and we thought that everything would be OK. I was to call him when the tile arrived. Well, the first shipment of tile was damaged, and the second shipment some of the tiles got lost in the Midwest. That meant that the installers could not finish the job because they ran out of tiles. New tiles were ordered for overnight delivery, and they arrived as ordered. We then set up another time for them to finish the job. They were to arrive between noon and 1 PM yesterday. Well, they did not arrive until 3 PM and we were waiting for them, not being able to do anything else because we needed to be there to direct them where to put the furniture. The work itself was well done and the floors look terrific, so in the end I am relieved. However the communication with us was questionable at times, and I lost some confidence in them prior to their finishing the work. For instance, they were sent to the wrong address to do the work and my wife had to go and pick them up and show them where to go. they had the correct house number but the wrong street. I received a call from someone else to schedule the work and I had no idea who he was. I had to call Michael to make sure that he was legitimate, which he was. Those kind of communication snafoos were worrisome. Again, in the end the work was done very well and we are very happy with the product. I give them a low rating for all the angst that it caused us when and whether it was going to get done. Tom Addendum: I have had a chance to cool off from the uncertainty of yesterday. The guys did a great job of putting down the flooring and cleaned up beautifully,etc. In retrospect I do believe that Flor and UPS made life difficult for Michael and FCI, but it sure was a chopped up job with all the damaged goods and missing product,etc. The end result is so satisfying that I needed to change my evaluation of the whole job.
