They did our floors about 5 years ago. Due to dogs they needed to be done again. First experience was great. This time not so great! 1. Wood floor installation great. 2. Sanding not so great. Areas of un-evenness due to excessive sanding. 3. Staining ok except they missed spots around doors. Too lazy to take doors off for access. 4. Finish - missed spots had to come back which took weeks Started project June 28th Final touch up 8/5. Communication: Calvin responds quickly but workers do not speak english. They do not seem to care about end product with the exception of the worker that did the wood floor installation. Next time I will go elsewhere. read more

Six years ago we had Amber Flooring come in after a kitchen restoration to redo our floors to accommodate a new floor plan and also re-stain the rest of our hardwood floors to match. They did a wonderful job and we didn't hesitate to call them back to do work again. I'm sorry to say that we were extremely disappointed with our recent experience. I'm giving Amber flooring 3 stars because the crew that did the actual hardwood installation was amazing! They were very detailed and did beautiful work. It was the staining crew that fell way short. They didn't put plastic up to protect rooms that weren't being worked on during the sanding, they didn't bother putting any painter's tape on any floor moldings and didn't even try not to get stain on walls, doors, stairs or moldings. We had to have professional painters come in to clean up the mess they left behind. Very disappointing. read more

Had them come out for a walk through of property in fall 2022. They sent estimate a few days later. Estimate was OUTRAGEOUS for wood floors. I was dismayed and baffled anything could be so expensive. Sales rep never followed up with me once such as "making sure you got the proposal, happy to answer any questions!" I did a lot of homework after this situation and ended up scoring the biggest find in the world. Found an extremely reputable hardwood floor company with jobs all over Atherton, etc....I kept seeing this other companies signs on construction sights. The owner was charismatic, upbeat, and wanted the business. He knew I wasn't going to pay over six figures (which Amber Flooring's estimate was 6 figures + for a 3500 square foot home- just for floors...yep!) The company I hired were beyond professional, literally a pleasure to work with, did the job from demo to install with 20 days. That is right 20 days. Men working long days and weekends too. I just paid the last invoice today. Totally job for gorgeous thick oak planks was 46K. Amber was approx 65K more. Please message me if you want more info on the other floor company as I feel so strongly about my decision to not work with Amber. We had amber install new vinyl plank floors in our townhome and are very happy with the results. The floors are beautiful and really put the finishing touch we wanted in our new home. We were lucky enough to work with Rob who was great for many reasons. He was super informative when we first reached out. We had no idea what we were doing and Rob talked through the whole process with us while also showing us the various options we had. Once we chose a product, Rob was incredibly easy to work with. He was super responsive to communications and on the rare occasion when he didn't answer his phone, he returned our calls almost immediately. As first time homeowners who were purchasing new floors for the first time, we feel very lucky to have ended up with someone from Amber who did such a great job helping us through the process. I thought was are paying a lot for good quality flooring. In reality these people trashed our house, banged up every door frame and some of the walls which took me a month to fix up on my own. They left a huge mess with saw durst covering everything inside, bloody band-aids and random junk. On top of that the floors make a ton of noise (they are 2 years old now) and are not glued down at all. Worst experience ever. read more

We had partial wood plank floors replaced, new plank floors installed to match (in previously tiled areas) and all floors on the first floor refinished. We went from a natural white oak stain to walnut finish. The newly installed floors matched perfectly - in both design, grain and finish. We needed special borders around our rooms - and it was absolutely no problem for the team at Amber Flooring. They were meticulous every step of the way; board replacement, new flooring, staining and multiple coats of clear coating. I could not recommend them any higher. read more

I felt I should update this review to respond to comments from Eldar D. who doubled down on their poor customer service by lying repeatedly in his response. I will address each below: ED: "As with many older houses, in this case an 80 year old floor, much has happened in their past lives, resulting in a majority of rusted nails." That simply not true. As you will see from the photos I uploaded, the majority of the nails were not rusted. As shown by by the after photos and confirmed by 2 different inspectors the nails rusted after Amber cut corners by not setting the nails and then used a water based product on them without warning us rust would be a likely result. ED: "This was pointed out to the owner and General Contractor upon the initial review of the floors, prior to any work taking place. It was recommended to Jay (the owner) that if he wants to mask those rusted nails (as they cannot be eliminated), a stain would work best. Jay declined and went against advice by choosing to use a natural water-based finish, which enhances those rusted nails. That is a bold faced lie. I was packed and well out of my home before anyone from Amber showed up. Certainly no one "warned" me and Jason L. The general contractor says he wasn't warned either. My first contact with anyone from Amber was a meeting set up by my contractor which occurred after you had ruined my floors. Your rep then unapologetically told me to hire an inspector because this was a "preexisting condition" even with photographic evidence to the contrary. ED: "There is nothing that we, or for that matter any other flooring company can do to remove those rusted nails, short of full floor replacement. This was offered as well in the initial review of floors prior to any quote. Even the action of setting these nails, which we did, would not alter the rust surrounding the nail itself." That's more B.S. Eldar D. I also brought in another flooring company who, after critiquing the poor quality of your work, said they could "fix" it by resetting the nails (as should have been done initially) and refinishing the floors. This would cost about $2K, required me to move out of my house again for a week, and take another 1/16th of an inch off my floors. All those things suck for me...had Amber done this right the first time we wouldn't have to make such a choice. ED: "Upon the conclusion of our work, the customer Jay enlisted two inspectors who refused to release the reports. However, the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) inspector agreed with our conclusion, saying that the floors and their conditions, including the rusted nail heads, are of pre-existing conditions, as shown in attached picture Now you are just living in a fantasy world. The two inspectors (both NWFA credentialed) not only released the reports, they gave their opinions in person to me and the general contractor who hired you. They didn't agree with you or the contractor from AT6 who plead your case. One said I should sue you in court the other said "any flooring professional worth a darn would have set the nails." The photos clearly show a floor that went from about 20% visible nails to 90%, That was you Eldar and you crappy work. And the readers should know the NWFA is hardly a consumer watch dog. They likely side with the vendor 99% of the time since they are an industry "self regulating" group made up of other flooring contractors and chemical suppliers. Eldar, when your own kind are throwing you under the bus it's time to face reality. ED: "We urge you to make the reports by the inspector's public, and if it is discovered that any of our work created the rusted nail heads, we will return your payment. As it stands, your statement is defined as slander, further evidenced by the list of negative online reviews on Yelp you have made to several companies. Finally your first and only attempt at resolution. Thanks Eldar a full refund is the least you could do for ruining my parquet floors. I am going to hold you to that since I have not completely paid my general contractor. When I can get him to finally tell me how much you charged (it is all lumped in to the $500K I paid for my remodel) I will remove the cost of the floors since you have generously offered in writing to refund the cost. Regarding my reviews...I am hardly the only person that has given you a low review. In fact Yelp has 20 Amber floor reviews (1/3rd of all your reviews) at 2 stars or less. That is likely 50% or more given how many fake reviews you have listed. Not sure if you use a troll farm or just have your family add fake reviews but you aren't fooling anyone. It's obvious from the ones Yelp "unrecommended" and the 2 recent reviews from people with no history that you pay more attention to your social media then you do to the quality of your work. read more

I really wanted to give them 5 stars because there was so much promise in the beginning. Amber came as a recommendation so I had high hopes for an easy and seamless experience. Calling them and getting someone out to do a bid was easy. They have someone in the office and she is organized and responsive. That is where the great service ends. Amber came in at a significantly higher cost on the proposal than the others that I was considering. I was hesitant, but decided I didn't want to go cheap on my floors so I hired Amber. I was told it would be a quick 1/2 day job. The installer showed up and had no idea what to do. I had to walk him through the area where he was replacing flooring. Anyway, he did a fine job, but "forgot" to do the insides of the closets. (I specifically had this as a line item in my proposal) so not sure if he was just lazy or dumb. I call my contact at Amber (Calvin Bustos - he did the estimate and he is who I have been dealing with since) and he apologized and said he would send someone in next week to finish. Welp, that was in March. It's June and I still don't have flooring in my closets. Good times. read more

Recently, my wood floor around kitchen refrigerator area was damaged by painters. Amber Flooring came to my house to repair the damaged floor. It was a bit tricky, since I did not have full length of floor planks left. Ernesto Ramirez of Amber replaced the damaged area with the materials that I have, when it is done, i could not tell the difference with the whole kitchen. Nice job. He was very courteous, skillful. I have to say that Amber Flooring is the best. Top-tier! I highly recommend them without any hesitation. I have developed numerous properties so I had high expectations of the company I was going to hire for my own home. They did not disappoint. They exceeded any other company I have worked with in the past for flooring. They are highly professional, very responsive with incredible follow-through. And if there are any issues, they will make it right. Customer satisfaction is a major priority with this company! First off Andrew, their representative who has had 20 years contracting experience himself, came out multiple times to consult on a very challenging floor project. Not only were we going to install new flooring, we also were going to level them prior to the installation, as our condo is in a 100 year old building and the floors had quite a bit of slope and sag. Andrew gave us considerable advice on how to go about this unusual project. All of this advice ( generously given) so we could hire a contractor to level the floors before Amber would come out and do their "magic." When this process was completed, Amber went into action. One week prior to floor install they delivered the new wood flooring so it would acclimate to our environment. Now this is how it is supposed to be done! Don't let any flooring company show up on the day and then install the wood they brought in the back of their truck. That how so many low-level flooring companies will go about their business. You will end up will all sorts of issues of separation, gaps, etc.. Amber's commitment to excellence is presented every step of the way! What impressed us so much was that they had a 3 separate teams of specialists for each stage of the flooring install. 1. The installation team. This is their absolute focus.This team installed the floor to perfection and one of them was the detail / edge expert! Amazing and beautiful job. Wood: Red Oak. 2. The sanding / staining team applied the color beautifully. What was so impressive, as well was their vacuum system they use when they sanded the floor. This absolutely reduces the dust as it sucks it all up at the same time! Please note that Andrew knew exactly what color we wanted by what we described to him. He brought out 5 different stains for us to look at. After they were applied on the floor, we ended up picking the one he thought we would like. Gorgeous color. Stain: Dura Seal - American Colonial. 3. The polyurethane team - They too did a wonderful job. Polyurethane: Bona - Bona Traffic (for its scratch resistance) - Semi-gloss . Updating to three stars from two because we used them on a third job and they did fantastic work, and my poor experience with the one rep was 6 years ago. Again though - they were a subcontractor on this latest job and, like my first experience with them, it was a very large project. I don't know if the problematic salesperson still works there, but I would still advise caution when contacting them about small jobs where they are contracting directly with you as the homeowner. All three of these people were key in making our floors into ones we love and will cherish forever. Amber Flooring exceeded our wildest expectations. I reached out to them as Tulip Flooring, which they recently acquired and so I was worried as I did not know the work of Amber Flooring work and only knew that Tulip had an excellent name and reputation in the community. Kim Ferguson from Amber Flooring met with me at our property to look at what we were hoping to do, which was to simply protect the already beautiful, existing wood, which was a red birch that we thought was unfinished. She inspected the floors carefully and determined they had been treated with something and that we needed to do a light sanding. Her team did a marvelous job. She gave us the option of keeping the floors the same color they had been by using an oil based finish or transitioning to a more modern look and feel with the environmentally conscious water based products. I was hesitant to go modern in the space and loved the existing color but also did not want to discount Kim's suggestion. She offered to provide sample boards to help us make the right choice for us. When after her suggestion, we felt we might decide to go with the lighter, environmental conscious finish, her team even did a sample on our newly sanded floor to show us what it would look like to make sure we would be happy with the change. Her team executed the work immaculately and with great care, even making sure to go under appliances a bit so that we would not see the color change. Three rooms in the contract, they left the site without completing one room. We had to call them to them come back to finish. Accidentally over paid them, so I asked that they send us the difference. They told me the check had been shredded. So I sent a second check with the corrected amount. 3 months later, my bank notified us the original was being returned. read more

Amber Flooring installed new hardwood floors in 2 bedrooms and a hallway of my 1,100 square foot- 2 bedroom bungalow, as well as refinished the original hardwood floors in the entryway, living and dining rooms. They were the only company I spoke to who understood how to install new floors in the bedrooms without removing the original baseboards or resorting to using quarter round trim (there was only the original sub-floor under the old wall-to-wall carpet). They undercut the original baseboards, and matched the new floors perfectly to the existing ones, down to every detail. Calvin was extremely kind, responsive and patient with the many questions and concerns I had prior to the work starting. He communicated every step of the process clearly and was always available if I had additional questions. He was very knowledgeable about how to achieve the best aesthetic results allowing me to trust his expertise and the process. The work was done on time, and on budget. I am very particular about small details, and the floors are perfection...I could not be happier with the end results. We had a challenging experience with Amber. We hired them to install oak in the kitchen, then sand, stain and refinish the oak floors in the living room, dining room and kitchen to match. We asked them to use a water based coat, rather than oil. First, their office staff was confusing and often difficult to reach. Each time I called I ended up talking to somebody different. The project director they assigned to us, Mark, seemed competent and knowledgeable, though, so we felt reassured going forward. Each day they came out to do the work, a different crew arrived, so it seem like there was no continuity from one day to the next. For example, the crew that arrived on the second day did not have the key to the house that the crew from the first day had used. Also, my contractor was concerned that they never did a "scrim" but I don't really know what that is. Rather than use a water based coat, they used oil, so we had to scramble to find alternate lodging for a week. The worst part was the quality of the finished product. The dining room and kitchen had tons of bubbles in the top coat. To their credit, when I asked Mark to look at it, he agreed that there were too many bubbles and said they would come out and do a recoat. Unfortunately, after the recoat, there were lots of shiners (bare nailheads) and even several small holes in the floor! We've had such a poor experience with Amber, that I don't trust them to fix it again. So we're just going to wait a few years until we need a new another recoat, and then will go with a different company. read more

We had several contractors evaluate whether to tear out added flooring and reveal and refinish the original wood from the 1910's. They all said "Not worth the time and effort". People would rather keep piling inferior product on top of beautiful wood than make the effort to refinish. Not Amber Flooring! Tony immediately said "We can do this". Amber flooring removed: carpet, vinyl and bamboo flooring and revealed beautiful fir and oak floors! They were not daunted by the task. The underlying flooring, though not perfect, has lovely character and warmth and could never be replicated in todays world. We couldn't be happier with the result! Tony is very communicative, timely and the staff at Amber Flooring are easy to work with. Tony did make an increase in price adjustment which we felt was excessive, given that he physically saw the job when he gave the original bid.
