I've been a big fan of Bailey Plumbing (aka Gladiator Repipe). They did the plumbing for our kitchen remodel (water, gas and waste lines), replaced our crumbling cast iron waste pipes, installed a tankless water heater, installed a pressure reducing valve, replaced our main waste line(s) that was clogged with tree roots, and added hot water recirculation lines - and more. The work was well done, and while not cheap, I thought it was reasonably priced for the quality of labor and the effort required. Unfortunately the most recent experience was a disappointment. We heard the sound of running water in our bathroom. Called on a Saturday to have a technician dispatched. The cost of the dispatch was more than I expected ($170, less than a year ago it was $60), but that's not the problem. The problem is that after arriving promptly, REP quickly located the leak (I pointed it out to him as I had found it in the time between the call and his arrival). He took a photo - there was a pinhole leak in a copper elbow located at the bottom of a floor joist. The elbow was installed when we made an addition to our house over 20 years ago. REP disappeared into his truck where I guess he was wrestling with the billing system. He came back after about 20 minutes with a bid to replace the elbow of $3000. Yep, $3000 to replace one exposed 1/2" copper elbow. It was in a crawl space, but it's under our addition. It's tall enough to sit up, and we even have a piece of old carpet in there to keep the dust down. And the access was very close to the leak. I told him that figure couldn't be right. That's what I'd expect to be charged to replace a whole water line. He went back to his truck - meanwhile I called dispatch. "Yes, that must be wrong"... is what dispatch told me. Another 15 minutes passed and he came back in with a bid of $1600 which he said resulted from talking with one of the owners. I also declined. Assuming I paid $40 for parts, and $400 an hour for labor (in 2024 the maximum prevailing service rate was $250/hour), I expected the replacement of a single exposed elbow to take at most an hour... so something in the neighborhood of $450 would have been reasonable, IMHO. I'm not unhandy and have done a fair amount of plumbing myself... so I ordered the fitting(s) I needed (already had 1/2" copper pipe and all the tools on hand). And in about 2 hours (including 2 round trips to the hardware store), and about 45 minutes of effort I replaced the defective elbow myself. I had to make a second trip because I realized the scrap piece of copper tubing I had on hand had a nick in it - necessitating another fitting and a short length of extra pipe "just in case". My out of pocket cost was $21. OWNER RESPONSE: About 4 days after posting my prior review, and having sent an email, an owner of the business contacted me and said the price should have been about $510 - which is a bit higher than I'd expect, but much more reasonable than the $3000 or $1600 quotes. They indicated it was literally the first week on the job for REP. He also let me know that one of the main reasons for high prices is that insurance costs are impossibly high - I don't remember the exact figure he quoted me, but I believe it was something like $900 per DAY. Unfortunately this episode of overcharging wasn't the only recent negative experience. I've been referring people to Bailey Plumbing for the last 9 years. Recently a friend and a neighbor both complained about the service and costs of plumbing by Bailey Plumbing. I don't know all the details in these cases, but it makes me less likely to recommend Bailey Plumbing/Gladiator Repipe. Their staff and ownership are all like-able, thoughtful people, so it pains me to be negative at all. SUBSEQUENT FINDINGS: Since my prior review, I had a thorough termite inspection, and in the report, it was noted "it appears when waste lines were replaced, workers left soil piled up above the concrete pillars and in contact with the support posts" (this gives subterranean termites a direct path to wood). Bailey Plumbing are the ones who replaced the waste lines for us. The inspector didn't find evidence of invasion by that oversight, but we now have a $300 line item to "remove soil from posts". read more

Called them because Gemini indicated they could be a good resource. We have a blocked gutter drain. We need to have a camera see whether it's a blockage or if the pipe is crushed. If blocked, we wanted to have them do a hydro-jetting service to clear. The good: They were very quick to respond and was able to come out immediately (within an hour). And the person who showed up was nice and professional. The bad: they quoted $549 for the camera and $4,800!!!! for hydro-jetting. When I said no, he lowered the camera price to $329 (more reasonable) and indicated it would be applied to the hydro-jetting service. But that price for hydro-jetting is ridiculous. I told them no. Unfortunately, I'm out the $59 inspection fee. Gemini indicated this service should cost $600-1,200, depending on length and other factors. I'm going to call around. If the price I was quoted by Bailey is not out of line with other quotes, I'll come back and edit this review. read more

Well i had planned not to leave this review because i own a big part of the prob ... Had a pipe burst. Bailey Plumbing responded quickly. Got to the underlying issue quickly. My bad... I did not ask for an estimate from the outset. When you are dealing with a leak above your family room it's understandable. So Bailey did the repair and then I got the invoice. $2300 to replace 9 inches of 3/4 inch copper pipe. Wow... As I have other plumbing work in the mix I engaged another plumber on a more significant repair. So two pictures showing the Bailey $2300 repair of 9 inches of 3/4 inch copper with 2 bends vs the $1350 repair to replace the 1-1/4 inch shutoff and PRV of my 26 yr old house. Bailey Plumbing... just say no? Ridiculous pricing although the techs were capable and personable. Owner maybe looking to take advantage of the emergency I was dealing with?? Not a place I would seek out. A number of better local alternatives. read more

Had the worst experience with this company over the last week. I called them to schedule inspection of plumbing and drains. Explained all the details about my house to the office and what is needed (including camera for drains as my house is on a concrete slab). The office lady confirmed that we do 62 point inspection and everything is included and our plumbers know what to do. I scheduled the inspection and they charged me the inspection price right away ($169). So, first they came out on Wednesday (a guy named Alex) and showed up without a camera. He told me that he can do plumbing inspection but does not have camera to check drains. I asked him to reschedule and at this point he had seen everything in my house to know what to do and said he will come back with the camera next time and we rescheduled to Friday. On Friday I get a call from the office that their camera is broken and they need to replace a part and have to reschedule to Monday. At this point, I wasn't sure how good they are and asked them if they want to continue or just cancel and refund me if they cannot do the inspection given the slab structure of the house. Again, the office person said that they know how to do it and they do it all the time and it is just a broken part that they need to repair to be able to do the inspection. So, I rescheduled to Monday. On Monday they came back out with the camera and told me what they will do and said that it is about $1150 extra to run the cameras in the drain. They also mentioned that Friday they got called into an emergency and there as no broken camera. They tried the blame the office girl for not telling me this but I also had the inspection guy (Alex) who came to my house the previous week and just said that he will come out with camera next time. he did not tell me anything about extra cost which now going to cost me $1300 instead of $169. Their office manager (a guy named John) had also been in contact with the inspection team everytime they came to my house and he did not bother to let me know about this extra cost in advance either. Worst service, no professionalism from manager, office staff and plumbing team. Also, wasted more than a week of my time. I would run away from this company and find someone else. Today I encountered one of the scariest moments I've had on the freeway. I was genuinely terrified by a Bailey Plumbing driver's behavior on the freeway. I was going 73 mph when he started tailgating me so closely there was barely a foot of space between our cars. I switched lanes three different times to let him pass as I don't NOT want to be hit. He was so reckless I feared for my life. He then followed me to every lane every time and continued tailgating for nearly 45 minutes. At one point, he even sped up just to pull next to me and stare into my car, which felt like outright harassment. This was extremely aggressive, unsafe, and dangerous not only for me but for everyone on the road. This was harassment. It was a smaller thin set man. My husband and I own an older property and have had trouble with the sewer since not long after we bought the place. By May of this year, one of the bathrooms was totally unusable, and the other was backing up frequently. We tried to get help from a plumber we'd used before. They struggled to get us an estimate of the work, and didn't seem like they could handle the job. A second plumber came out that seemed a bit more capable, but we weren't sure they had assessed the issues sufficiently. The two estimates we got from these companies were also wildly different from each other. After searching online and seeing good reviews for Bailey Plumbing, I called and was immediately impressed with Becky's and then John's professionalism. This continued as Sal helped move the project from estimating to completing the work. When our plumbing was still backing up a couple of days after the crew had completed the job, I contacted the office (Becky) feeling very discouraged. This was late on a Friday afternoon, but Bailey sent Randy out immediately. Randy was outstanding and took care of the immediate problem, while also scheduling more in-depth work early the following week. The crew came out again (Sal, Randy, and Charlie) and made sure everything was in tip-top shape before leaving. Roy Lopez was friendly and respectful throughout his visit. Roy demonstrated his ability to identify the problem, investigate, and find a logical solution. As a bonus, Roy was relatable and kind to our kids. Our kitchen sink was backed up and bringing in water. This was our third time having to unclog our kitchen sink, unfortunately. We had called around to couple of places and Bailey Plumbing was able to come out the same day. Despite placing preventions by using a netted drain strainer, disposing oil in glass jars, running hot water after doing the dishes, and not putting anything down the garbage disposal, our pipes had three blockages that Roy was able to break through. Roy started off with a smaller machine, but moved onto a heavier-duty machinery and got the job done. It may have something to do with the older pipes further down the line. Roy suggested we could get a camera down there to confirm and assess our next steps. read more

I have not used them, but a neighbor did. He had a leak in his water main. They came out on a Friday after hours which was great and quoted him over $6,000 dollars.. without knowing how much work was involved. they found the leak right away and had to remove a 12 inch by 12 inch peace of concrete which took 30 minutes. There was a pinhole in the pipe about 3 inches down and they replaced that section, It was about 18 inches long. I'm not sure but I also think they replaced a valve. Any ways, 2 guys 3 hours and maybe $30.00 in materials. $6,000 bucks what a rip off. I would never use them and everybody I see I tell them not to use them. read more

I am very grateful for Elijah & Charley that came to my work to resolve our awful plumbing problem! They arrived in less than one hour of the call and got immediately to work. Our client toilet was clogged and filled to the brim. Our office staff attempted to resolve the issue, but it was beyond our capacity. Elijah and Charlie arrived and quickly got to work. Searched google and called the after hours number to set up an appointment for estimate. Rep took down my info and said a service tech will call back in the morning. Received call the next day to setup an appointment for the following day with a $89 charge to come out and inspect - first red flag (my second and third quotes provided free estimates). I scheduled for next day estimate between 2-4PM. Next day comes and I receive a text a quarter past 2PM that tech was on the way. But, it's now 3:50PM with no arrival and text since 2PM, so I call to check and the rep says they were meaning to call to update me, and that the tech was in traffic. Second red flag, doesn't commit to time schedule. Tech arrives, is friendly and knowledgeable, but the price is beyond gouging; he checks for line pressure and suggests a new pressure regulator with less than a foot of 1" line needing replacement along with a new gate valve (mix between pvc and metal material to be replaced). The repair quote was $3600 with 3 hrs for dry/curing time, and the tech keeps asking me what I was expecting to pay. I give him a ballpark number $1500 (assume $200/hr for 5 hours and $500 for parts - more than fair). He evidently lowers it to $2700 saying any lower and he'd be in trouble. I decline the fix. I call for a second quote with free estimate from a National chain, but they won't be out until tomorrow; so, I try a third company with also a free estimate. Third company is a local licensed plumber and he's out fixing it for $850, same day, new regulator, gate valve and line repair with labor included - get a second or third quote! read more

Elijah arrived near the beginning of the window and immediately diagnosed the problem as a busted tank. He was able to source a replacement water heater and have it installed that day. Super knowledgeable and courteous worker and he deducted the $40 service fee from the overall bill. I would use them again. read more

So, it's 6:30 PM, the water supply to the house has been off for 3 hours due a leak on our side of the water main (resident's responsibility) and I've just broken the 3/4" PVC fitting going into the main! I don't have a 3/4" extruder! Now what? I'm stuck! I was referred to Joe by a long time and well-respected contractor friend. Best referral EVER! Joe took a look at the pictures I sent and even though all his crews were done for the night or out of town, he volunteered to come over personally and take care of it for us. Bailey Plumbing came out to fix a leaking water line under my house. I knew exactly what the problem was and explained it to the plumber. He assessed the problem and gave me a quote of $3,100. This would work if their shop rate was $3000 an hour. I called the company and they lowered it to $2,200. That's still $1,700 more than it should have been. I told them the maximum it should be is $500. I did not fall it. That sad thing is that there are people out there that don't know about plumbing and they will pay this crazy high bill. I got another plumber to come out the next day. He did it in about an hour and charged $500. I paid him $600. Honesty is a good thing. I'd say if you want to call them just make sure you get other companies to quote the job. read more

They charged our credit card without our permission and forged signatures on the invoice/work order. They charged us $1000 for the permit from the city of San Jose when the permit only cost $257.68. Needed help with a sump pump under the house that had stopped working. Called at 1030 & was able to get someone out the same day by noon. Elijah was extremely polite & professional. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. Currently have a gas leak. Tech ran a pressure test. Was clearly low pressure. Pressure test is $800!! Didn't want to check below the house due to the smell and safety concerns. Instantly said all pipes needed to be replaced. Quoted $12,000-13,000 Returned an hour later which gas had been shut off and tech "couldn't" turn back on for safety concerns. Asked him to check the area where the smell was coming, he then went under the house. Inspected all piping and could not locate the leak. My husband is the one who suggested it was probably in the area below ground due to moisture. Quote to dig up and replace pipe = 2500 Quote to redirect pipe (no digging) $3000 Quote for us to dig up and they replace pipe $1700. We dug up the pipe and found the corroded area where the leak was. We called the office to have them come out to fix the following day. We haven't heard from them. Called the tech to follow up we wanted the pipe fixed. And haven't heard back from him. So we called a local company and they are fixing the area of issue for roughly $400. I'm $800 out from this joke of a company (Bailey plumbing). We got taken advantage of to say the least. read more

We recently had a water softener system installed by Bailey Plumbing. The staff (Elijah and crew) were extremely helpful, patient, and flexible. We moved the position of the water and salt drum as we wasn't sure and needed to actually look at the item before making the decision. The staff was very cordial and gave us the space and time to make up our minds on the final installation plan. Prompt response but extraordinarily expensive quote as noted by others. I called them out to look at our natural gas water heater which had stopped working and they came out in an hour so that was quick. There's an up front $40 trip charge - which is fine given gasoline and labor costs. After trying to light the pilot and some discussion, it was either $675 to *start* to take the heater apart to repair it or $4200 to replace a 50 gallon tank water heater. They convinced me that any repair wasn't worth the cost since the heater was at or near the end of its expected life anyway. That was maybe worth the trip charge. BUT the $4200 to replace the water heater is about double the going rate. (A new water heater is $1100 at Home Despot and plus 4 hours at $250/hour.) I ended up with another quote for $2400 on my first call for a second quote. I can understand a little higher but 1.8x is gouging. *ALWAYS* get a second quote!! read more

Bailey Plumbing is a sales company and not a plumbing repair company. Their business model is built around upselling and not fixing your problem. The thermocouple on my water heater went out. I knew it was the thermocouple because it went out previously. Bailey Plumbing sent out two technicians, who were both as polite and courteous as possible, but it was clear their mission was to sell me something rather than figure out what was wrong with my water heater. They take a look at it, poked around, then tell me it could be anything and they didn't know what was wrong with it. I asked about the thermocouple and they said "could be that, but first we'd recommend replacing the water heater for $7K." I told them that was not happening. I kept asking them how much to change the thermocouple and they would not quote me, giving the excuse that "their iPad did not have a quote for a thermocouple" so they did not know. I then requested that if we were triaging, what is the cheapest thing we could try to do to fix it rather than immediately jumping to the most expensive option of replacement. They said the replacing the heating unit for $1100 would be the cheapest. I said thank you and sent them on their way. I called another plumber that someone else recommended to me, Shamrock Plumbing, and I described to him over the phone what the water heater was doing and he immediately said, "thermocouple." He came out the next morning and changed the thermocouple in about ten minutes for $150.
