I love coming to this place! It's really good Mexican food, and the Margaritas are usually very strong. It is a small place, but it seems a good size for the amount of people that come. In the summer you can sit outside too! My wife and I are within walking distance of this place, which is a plus since it's just street parking in the area. The first time I went here was after Freaknight a year ago. So as you can imagine, I was starved by the time I woke up the next afternoon. My friend lives close and we had crashed at her house, so we thought it was about time to check it out. I ordered the hot cakes..i know, but it was the cheapest item on the menu for $6! Service was extremely slow but it was a busy day, so it was understandable. I had a fly in my tea so I had to order another cup, they brought that quickly! Overall, I wouldn't have returned if not for the fact that my friend loved the food. Maybe it was because I ordered hot cakes at a Mexican restaurant! I had to give Baja another chance. I returned a few days ago, we went much earlier (9:30 to avoid the brunch rush) and the service was really good and fast. This time I ordered the Huevos a la Mexicana. The scramble came with potatoes, refried beans, and house-made corn tortillas. It was very traditional and homey. The tortillas were delicious! The rest of the dish was maybe too homey, in that I could definitely recreate the food in my kitchen at home.. This was a bummer because the prices felt pretty high. The portions are huge however so that was a plus. I'm not a big fan of Mexican food but the atmosphere of the place is really nice and cultural (the mural on the wall is so cute), which I love! I am from New Mexico and thus was craving some real Huevos Rancheros - their version of this was a complete fail. A very small portion of tortillas, a couple of eggs and some type of mild tomato sauce. Served with a small portion of refried beans. FAIL. The real kicker is - THEY USE STORE-BOUGHT CHIPS!!! I kid you not! That is the ultimate sin for an "Authentic Mexican" place. They used to fry their own chips (as every self-respecting Mexican place should) - so the store-bought chips is an unwelcome development. I do not plan to return to Baja Bistro. read more

This place is great. The food is authentic, healthy and tasty. The staff is fun and sexy. The customers are hipsters and normal people, a fine mix. There are no negatives to this place. Sure, sitting in the sun near the road might make girly men feel insecure, but if you're that worried about road noise, sit inside. If you want good food at a fair price, eat here often. read more

This place is small and quaint, uses fresh ingredients and doesn't drown your food in grease like some Mexican restaurants. Brunch was pretty cheap, fun, simple and a little spicy. We also ordered lattes with our Mexican food because it is connected to Java Love. Ha.. only in Seattle. I am from New Mexico and that would be basically unheard of. I was a little underwhelmed by my breakfast burrito because it had more potatoes than eggs and not much flavor but I got some sour cream and some pico and that livened it up. I came here after a night out with a friend and I really love the interior of the decorations and the people there are super friendly. They have cute white cups for your coffee and have cute outdoor seating. I got a chorizo torta and hangover is cured, it was so good and the bread is super fluffy, it's not hard and your mouth will not hurt from all the chewing. I was excited to find a place where I could sit outside, enjoy the sun while I read my book and get a quick bit to eat. I asked the waiter for their most popular item, he that it was diffidently the Pork Burrito Verde served wet. Three of my favorite things! When the burrito arrived I was excited, at $8.95, I thought the burrito was a good size and the portion of sour cream served with it was huge. Biting into the burrito was disappointing. The pork was cooked well, but the flavors were just not there. I was so disappointed. There was none of the tanginess that I associate to verde sauce, I could not taste the tomatillos, nor could I taste or see the cilantro. Even the refried beans were bland, I do not know how you mess that up. The saving grace here was my friend's breakfast burrito. His burrito was stuffed with meat and eggs, but again not full on flavor. If I had to go back, I would have the breakfast burrito, he may not be much on flavor, but at least I know it will fill me up. read more

It's was the kind of beans-and-rice heavy concoction that gives Seattle its reputation for sub-standard Mexican. Overcooked pork, uninspiring spices, and a predominance of starchy white race wrapped in frijoles a la Sysco. I love the vibe of the place, but the burrito did not live up to the billing. Also the waiter balked at our adding a table to accommodate 5 peope so we had to cram into a space for 4 because he insisted the place was going to get slammed, which never happend. We were expecting avocado and guacamole with our order but when we asked about it the waiter told us the Costco order never came. Avo, being an important component of Mexican food, could have been purchased at the Red Apple down the street, if they cared. Or we could have been told before order that avo was not available and we could have gone to one of the other 2 Mexican restaurants on the block. Very disappointed at what has happened to this neighborhood haunt. The food has declined in quality. I asked for the chicken enchiladas and asked if I could get cheddar on then. I was told they don't carry cheddar. It's on there menu as part of the cheese enchilada. Then the food came out they had put mozzarella cheese on top of the enchiladas, unmelted! The enchilada sauce was just crushed red tomatoes and the meat was luke warm. The chips were stale and had clearly come from a bag. They used to be fresh made. So we were in the neighborhood and decided to try this place because it looked pretty authentic and we have yet to find really solid Mexican food in Seattle. Man were we disappointed. It was all pretty terrible so I'll start from the top. No parking. Which isn't really the restaurants fault but worth noting if you're trying to go here and have mobility issues. We get seated and are given chips and salsa. The chips were straight out of a bag and extremely low quality. Just thick and flavorless. The "salsa" we were given was mostly just water and had no flavor let alone spice to it. I tried to like it I really did but just couldn't get into it. Next I order a strawberry margarita. I'm assured they're good by our waiter and I figure it's pretty hard to mess up a margarita so I go for it. Man I figured wrong. It was less strawberry and more just watered down tequila. And the tequila tasted cheap and disgusting. Which maybe I'm wrong but if I'm paying ten bucks for a drink I expect it to at least not taste like I'm at a some college kegger drinking the cheapest tequila anyone could find. So I flagged down our waiter and told him I didn't like the margarita and can he please take it back. He stared at me for a few seconds then asked what was wrong with it. I told him I really didn't like the flavor and wouldn't be able to drink it. This seemed to aggravate him quite a bit and he swooped my drink away without another word. Not the best customer service for sure. Now for the food. We ordered the poblano peppers in crema sauce with homemade tortillas and I must say that was the only decent thing we received. Still needed salt though and was cut into hard to eat strips instead of smaller more manageable pieces. Then we get our tacos. They are the most bland tacos I have ever had. Literally no seasoning no spice nada. The pico de gallo didn't even have lime juice in it. The pork was in a green sauce that tasted like someone poured it out of a can then mixed it with some water. Then the steak was literally not seasoned at all. Like no salt no pepper and certainly no spice. I tried my best to dress them up a little with some salt and some tapitio but it really couldn't battle the complete lack of any type of flavor. Oh did I mention there was no cilantro, no onions, and no salsa on the tacos? Yeah. Just a pathetic sprinkle of cabbage. Whoever runs this place cooks like they have never had any Mexican food in their entire life. $33 bucks later we left totally disappointed and without our Mexican food craving satisfied. If you like food that actually tastes like something and good customer service DO NOT go here. You're better off getting Taco Bell. read more

Food was good. I've had better chips at the Matador. I ordered the fish tacos and a chicken torta. The tacos were the better half. Pico and slice of lime came on the side and all the ingredients were pretty fresh. Fish was fried which was a surprise. It came with a spicy pink sauce which was pretty good too. The torta was OK. The toasted bun was buttered. Made it really good. But, the torta usually has steak on the menu; I ordered chicken which was kind of mediocre. And, it kept falling apart. Avacado was everywhere!
