One of our favorite restaurants in West Seattle. We love the food and the service is always quick and cheery. The decor is quirky, with Mexican decorations and Luchador masks all around. Since the pandemic they added some outdoor seating on the street, which is nice on a beautiful day as the inside does not get much natural light. Thanks to the upstairs area they always manage to keep the place busy and yet we've rarely ever had trouble getting a table. We also get food to go every once in a while. read more

A friend and I stopped in laat week for happy hour drinks and snacks. We arrived around 4:30 as their happy hour ends at 5:00, and the place was pretty empty. We each ordered drinks and shared a chicken quesadilla. The woman who served us was super nice and also tended bar. She made sure we got our second drink orders in before happy hour ended. I planned a surprise birthday/engagement party event with Mission Cantina in their upstairs area, and everything was beyond fantastic. I highly recommend having an event there if you're considering it. From the start, their bar manager Mike was the best possible partner to work with. He was incredibly responsive and collaborative - meeting several times before the event to understand my vision for the evening and walk through what was possible to make it a reality. He made sure everything was aligned to make this special celebration a reality, and beyond delivered the night of. Clay provided amazing service as well - she was super friendly and helpful, making sure everything ran smoothly. It was truly a magical night with all our friends and family, and am super grateful for everyone there that made that happen. Feels like it's been more than 3 years since we were here and as the review lays out. This place had issues. We were craving Mexican and doing a thorough search and despite not liking this place initially, we noticed it had a new owner and a couple positive reviews. All things considered, we decided to give this place another run. Now, unless a place was regionally known or high traffic, I'd change the name, because no matter how good you are, when you assume a name, you assume a reputation and it takes a ton of work to improve that reputation. This area is not known for Ethnic food, there used to be a Chinese place across the street, that became a bar serving bad Chinese food and it appears it finally folded, as I didn't see it. Never ate there, but the reviews all said the same thing, come to drink or sing, but don't eat. We came in late night, so it's a much-limited menu. Originally, I thought the late-night menu was a Happy Hour, but it's the only offering. Personally, I had 2 carnitas tacos and chips and salsa. The tacos were ok, and by ok, I mean they literally were not bad. They weren't fried and they also weren't juicy or bursting with flavor. They tasted like tacos from T Mobile park. At $11 they were also overpriced. No, the menu didn't say they came with rice and beans, but again, I thought this was a Happy Hour and thought a small side may be included. Otherwise, why are you charging $5.50 for a $4.00 taco on a late night menu? The real crime is the chips and salsa. I guess it's been about a decade since some nouveau owner decided to charge for what every other Mexican restaurant serves complimentary. No problem, I'm well paid, but here is the deal. If you are going to charge for what 98% of other restaurants serve for free, your offering better be stellar. The chips were not hot, and didn't taste fresh either. They were room temp, chewy and stale and only a single salsa was served with no refill to the salsa or basket. If I'm paying you, there better be at least 2 salsas and a 3rd if you want me to believe you have real Mexicans in your kitchen. The salsa also had zero heat. When I asked our server about a hotter salsa, she said she had Tabasco and Tapatio. Two items you typically don't find in authentic Mexican restaurants at least unless it's breakfast or they are serving eggs. The service was also really slow as many have pointed out. We also watched this guy introduce himself to a couple tables as the owner and talk them up for at least 20 minutes. Here is the problem, if you are the owner and you want to talk people up, good on you, but if you don't talk to everyone you are sending a message that you are only interested in courting a certain crowd. We drove from the Eastside to give this place another try and were treated as we weren't valued guests. For the 20 people that were there, service would have been faster. The food should have been hot, flavorful and fresh, but this is a classic case of a money grab. This isn't a Mexican restaurant, it's a bar that serves small plates, watered down and targeted to anyone other than those who truly appreciate anything authentic. Do yourself a favor, why don't you put ketchup bottles on the table, replace all-natural cheese with sauce and pipe in some bad mariachi music. Cause I have had far better Mexican food and experiences inside of Disney World, and possibly for less money! read more

Sat, and waited a bit, and ordered a couple of drinks(appears no refills on diet coke and lemonade). Order chips and salsa, and queso dip with chips. Also, no refill on chips even though didn't finish the quest and wanted more chips, so told to order another order of chips. Oddly enough, 2 groups that came to sit close after we were seated had already had their meals and almost finished by the time we finally to oder our main meals. The food was pretty good, maybe a little spicier than anticipated. I had to make sure my daughter checked here food, due to her having nut allergies, since I noticed the rice had pepitas on it. First time back since new owners. Space looks great & staff was on point - welcoming, engaging, regular check-ins and working well as a team. Only negative was on the margaritas (which was a go-to before). Ordered the scratch and the drinks came out with more fruit slices, ice and salt than marg. Wouldn't mind it so much for a HH serve or a $5-8 drink, but $13.... Hopefully they'll get the proportions right going forward! read more

I went there for Cinco de Mayo and I wish I would have gone somewhere else. I arrived with a few friends after the HH and dinner rush. My food was delivered 45 mins after I ordered and it was cold. The amount of rice and beans would have not fed a 3 yr old. Literally, half a cup of rice and half a cup of black beans. Although the service was incredible, the lack of skills in the kitchen showed. This was an unfortunate dining experience. There were only two people working. We sat and ordered fairly quickly. Our drinks never came, including lemonade for the kids. Half the table received their food. The other three plates never came. After 45 minutes we asked to just take the missing dinners to go. Was told only one of the missing meals was made. The meal we were sent home with was not what we ordered. I felt bad for the people who worked there. I haven't been back here in many years, and it was nice to discover that the food still tastes as great as it did before. Service was really slow, at one point we needed to get our drinks from the bar and it took quite long to get someone to run our payment. Be warned: The bacon-wrapped jalapeño poppers are hotter than most other places around town. The filling seemed chunky and upon closer inspection, it was full of seeds. The food was great as usual, my wife had the veggie burrito, and I had the carnitas torta. I had never had one before, and it was phenomenal. Flavorful and so tender. Our server Celia M. was one of the best. She knew her Mescal's, as it was 1/2 price Mescal night, and she pointed us to two to sample. So good. Her knowledge of the menu, and her genuinely sincere attitude should also be commended. And of course the Queso Fundido and Refried Bean Dip were excellent appetizers. I enjoyed my experience at Mission Cantina and I would recommend it to others. We came here for an early dinner on a Saturday (date night!). During COVID-19, they are open for take out and limited dine-in seating. I felt very safe there because they take the recommended safety precautions very seriously. There were rules posted, markings on the floor, a contactless menu, and everyone was wearing a mask. I ordered three tacos (pork carnitas, chicken in tomatillo sauce, and grilled white fish). I thought they tasted good and I'm glad the fish was grilled instead of fried. My husband ordered the chicken enchiladas and he enjoyed his food as well. I thought our server was nice. Unfortunately, this was the worst dining experience I've had in a long time. Heard about the Cinco de mayo pig roast and decided to check it out. We ordered the roast pork tacos and the alitas de barbacoa from the specials (wings tossed in signature mezcal barbecue sauce). The wings were awful, couldn't even eat one. I asked the waitress if she was sure these were the wings I ordered because they tasted like regular buffalo wings (not to mention the wings themselves were soggy and mostly skin/fat) and she insisted they were the wings on special. To add insult to injury, we waited half an hour for our food, in which time I got two drink specials - a cantarito which I was very excited for but was utterly disappointing and a paloma which tasted identical to the other drink.... Great dinner spot during pandemic! It's freezing out, but Mission Cantina has a workaround! There are 4 outdoor cabanas with a mini electric fireplace on the tables. They also offer blankets in case you are still cold. They have call buttons & a mini Bluetooth speaker to connect to. There was a short 20 minute wait for a table which wasn't bad at all considering it was a Friday night. My friend and I celebrated our birthday. Service from everyone was EXCELLENT from the host, to the server, to the food runner- everyone was very friendly ensuring that we enjoyed our dinner!! Food was delicious & guava margarita was yum!!! At the end of dinner it drizzled a little and hearing the raindrops on the cabana reminded me of hearing raindrops on the tent when you're camping. We went back excited that the Mission has re-opened under the mantra of "keep the mission, mission." The staff was excellent, management was great and the ownership team were there looking for feedback on opening week. Backstory time, we have been going to the mission for the last decade probably twice a month before they closed. My favorite meal was the california burrito alitas style, although I've had just about everything on their menu. Tonight we ordered standard fare to see how things are starting out. Back to present. The bartender was superb! Starting off with a smile and friendly banter. He had just started and was enjoying the challenge. We had great margaritas and ordered food. Upon delivery of food is when the night started to sour. I usually order the aforementioned burrito. Unfortunately, this time it was not up to the same standard that I've had many times under the old Mission. I signaled the new GM who came right over and was very open to feedback. After mentioning my burrito was not what I expected, he asked for details and was understanding of my concerns. He then proceded to comp that portion of our meal. The computers were not cooperating and he called the owner over to rectify our ticket. We had to wait for a bit while that happened, and were rewarded with superb customer service. Being opening week, our patience was high and we were polite while they worked out kinks in their system. While this process was happening the owner introduced himself and clearly explained the situation. Everything was eventually rectified and we left with a great impression of what the new Mission could be! TL:DR Overall, this was a positive experience and we will be back! The staff was excellent as always. New management was superb and successfully managed customer issues. The food was good, just not up the previous Mission standards. We will visit again and are certain they will get it right. I give this place a high recommendation for West Seattle, similar to the old Mission. read more

Bottomless mimosas?! Yes please! My friends and I mainly came here to try the bottomless mimosas but the food was right up there with the good tasting mimosas. The carnitas tacos were so fresh and had great flavor. The esquittes was probably my favorite. I love corn! If you are coming for brunch too, they have good huevos rancheros. The Ambiance: Very neat! Love the decor and bar back. Didn't get a chance to see upstairs but downstairs it was good. Well spaced tables and not too loud. The service: Friendly and quick to be helpful The food: here's where I was disappointed. We got the chips and salsa which was pretty good but only came with a small salsa for a large amount of chips. The generous portion though was appreciated. I got the Al Pastor tacos which were fabulous. The pineapple brought a freshness and the meat was well marinated. However it came with black beans and rice which were both really awful. The beans had cotija cheese on them which normally would be great but it tasted very off and the beans themselves were off. The rice was so bad I nearly spit it out. It tasted like plastic and for a Mexican joint the beans and rice really need to be good. My partner got the Carne Asada tacos which tasted like they were over cooked on a dirty grill. Way too much char, not enough flavor, and lots of cartilage.
