Buho knows itself - the description of Latin-inspired comfort food is so accurate. The chicken mushroom burrito reminded me of a Midwest casserole - in a good way. It was hearty, plentiful and filling with a creamy sauce that added comfort and warmth. I found it enjoyable to add some of the hot sauce at the table for a bit of contrast. The burrito is big - definitely enough for leftovers. We also had the churros which are served stacked up like Lincoln logs. Also hearty and satisfying. Not over fried like some churros can be and the full tilt Mexican ice cream was great and a fun nod to another neighborhood establishments. Atmosphere was nice - casual and cozy but with nice furniture and upkeep and cool art. Service was fast although there was a full restaurant and only one server and one bartender. I will say now that we are four years I prefer a menu to looking at a QR code on my phone - having phones out doesn't always have a good psychological start to a date night. Popped in for happy hour and it steadily got busier and busier! Definitely a spot that is very popular. The street tacos were a great deal and loaded with meat. I think the only flaw for me was that 2/3 tacos were just "ok" in taste. Service was ok, we were there for about 2 hours and got checked on maybe twice. Music selection was good. One of my new favorite bars in White Center. Delicious food and drinks and the staff is fantastic! The ambience was inviting and comfortable. They had a great menu for Cinco De Mayo and have a daily happy hour menu. The menu pricing was super reasonable and quality of the food was outstanding. Delicious! Service - wonderful! Woman gave us suggestions for drinks and food, based off of what we wanted! They were perfect! Food and drink - between the coffee and mimosas, we were having a blast! Pleasant surprise - the huevos rancheros...I love the crunchiness of the tostadas, plus the combo of the green (milder) and red (slightly spicier) sauces, made this brunch dish have more pizazz. Buho burrito with chicken was wrapped so nice and cleanly, but it was dry. We requested a side of crema for it after we had trouble getting a few bites in. The Asada fries were ok. Something was missing flavor-wise and I couldn't figure it out. I added the pico de gallo from the burrito plate to the fries for some acid. Overall it was a decent quick meal. Perhaps the food suffered because it was late night and close to closing. Service was great and we will back to try more of the menu when we can get there earlier in the night. read more

I came in here on a Friday afternoon to get some drinks and a couple appetizers. The place is owl-themed, which I found very interesting. I ordered the Cucumber Jalapeño Margarita, a half order of chicken nachos, and a half order of carne asada fries. The drink was okay, probably would try a different drink next time. The "half" orders of the nachos and carne asada fries were surprisingly massive portions! It was enough to share between myself and two other people. The food itself was pretty decent with some good flavors. I'd probably come back and try another drink. read more

Knowing the owner is notorious for having a tantrum when confronted with honest and critical feedback, I have no expectations this review will change the experience of Buho. This review is for you, person who is thinking about trying this place. Buho is utterly disappointing. Like, we audibly sighed after trying to eat the food and feeling defeated. I'm sitting here writing this during another long stretch of no service. I just want to pay my bill and leave. They charge $18 for fish tacos that are sloppy, with overcooked freezer burned tasting fish and hard as a rock avocado. I'll sum it up by saying this: IF YOU ARE FROM SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, YOU WILL HATE THIS FOOD. Don't waste your time or money. It ain't cheap and you'll be as angry about it as I am right now. But this was me giving Buho a second chance. There won't be a third. Edit: They finally brought me the check. They did not offer any discount, despite my complaint about the unripe avocado (when I asked for ripe avocado, they told me they only had unripe and brought me pineapple salsa to make up for it?). Best ambience around it's so mellow and the lighting is dark but elegant paired with really unique decor. Their burritos are killer and I would highly recommend you get it smothered! Don't sleep on their happy hour it's hands down the best in white center and the grilled cheese tacos are only available during happy hour. Asada fries and nachos are also outstanding and their selection of tequilas and mezcals is far reaching. There is even a small back patio that's pretty secluded and great on nice days. read more

Post covid, this place has been on a steady decline of disinterested employees and temperamental bartenders. I'll not go into details, as it's not very important to me to smear a bartender for quite possibly the worst eye roll in human history - all for asking about a bottle on the wall (the humanity). Food is still pretty good, but I just can't look past d.bag bartenders or servers for that matter. He extended himself gracefully with a friendly demeanor in what was obviously a snit situation. Anyone not in the industry would not recognize the conditions ... ONE PERSON SERVING THE ENTIRE RESTAURANT; bartender, server, busser, a THREEE PERSON JOB. Pay this man what he is worth or hire a server. WTF is wrong with you? The food: French fries were TOPS. The best in the city. Tacos were "a little dry". Cocktails: JFC... so good. Value... exceptional. We left fat and happy. BUT really, hire this man a server if you want to keep him. And just an FYI, I don't know him, never met him, I just walked in, scanned the place and saw it immediately. This place has had my absolute favorite burritos of all time up until recently. The last three orders, the pickled cabbage or pickled element in the burrito hasn't been included and I'm absolutely heart broken! New management, if you've changed the recipe, please change it back! This place used to be amazing..tonight though.... I ordered the asada fries and mushroom chicken burrito. The burrito was soggy....usually this burrito holds shape, strongly. I cut it open only to find yes, soggyness. And a very distinct chilli smell. That's not supposed to be there. The fries.... soggy. The question was put into another container and it looked like chilli cheese. It tasted nothing of quaso. The streak that was supposed to be asada? The same exact mushroom chicken or pulled pork mix with chilli and something kinda orange....possibly the "queso". I was so disappointed with this food. There was no Pico de Gallo in the fries. There was a couple of tomatoes parts....very soggy. No green anywhere. The burrito used to br fully covered in a cheese fry....now only half. I had to send It back. Yikes.. this is not Mexican food . Very disappointed with the flavorless creamy food. I asked for some salsa since there was none in the burrito. Wait staff gave a quizzical look and asked again what it was that was needed. He returned with a warm yellow/green sauce that had absolutely no flavor and was kind of bitter?? "Carne asada fries" were also just drenched with cream and flavorless thousand island looking sauce. Bizarre food experience. Added a star for nice ambiance and decent cocktails. Awesome bar and restaurant located right off of 16th. Loaded with lots of tequila and mezcal specialty cocktails and slushies. The food was super yummy and filling, loved the asada fries. The items are big so two items will fill 1-3 folx no problem! Service was excellent, attentive and fast. A shoutout to the art inside! Each booth has hand painted boards, the bar had a mural, tons of weird spooky lighting and the bathroom had super cool wallpaper. Those details make this bar very unique setting it apart from any ol' dive bar on the strip. From the music, to the art to the service to the food and drinks, this was a lovely experience. Upsetting lack of flavor. Ordered takeout for a group and we got the Búho burrito, a potato burrito with chicken, pork quesadilla, shrimp tacos, carne asada fries, and corn. The only items that were decent were the potato burrito and the quesadilla. Not really good, just ok compared to the other items. Shrimp tacos: uncooked corn tortillas out of a bag, which became mushy and fell apart. No flavor in the shrimp, and the pineapple jalapeño salsa also had zero flavor. Carne asada fries: Limp, greasy, and again, flavorless. Corn: You already know what I'm gonna say -- just no flavor and all cream. read more

A friend and I popped into Buho to give it a try. Great decor and ambiance, I love the booths. The service is relaxed and friendly. The margaritas were strong and delicious! The food is inventive Mexican, not super traditional, but good and ample. I had to resist not eating all the nachos. They had plenty of cotija cheese and a creamy queso. Yum! I had the mushroom-chicken burrito. It is huge! I'll be eating it for days but I'm not complaining. Great mushroom flavor with shredded chicken and cheese. My friend had delicious shrimp pineapple tacos. I'm definitely trying those next time. We came back later for dessert. Just got this to go through DoorDash so we haven't been to the restaurant/bar itself, but was floored by how satisfying and tasty it was! We got the Buho Burrito and Green Quesadilla, and found both to be full of flavor while taking a unique approach to what are two relatively common dishes. What we found so refreshing was that while all the ingredients you'd find in a burrito or quesadilla normally just blend together, in both of these everything seemed to stand out on its own. We used to live up on Capitol Hill and would frequent Bimbos (a bar serving food similar to this), and while we have plenty of fond memories of (usually late) visits and enjoying a late night burrito, Buho blows it out of the water in my opinion (while still scratching that same itch). The bar is interesting. I think it has a unique design concept and I appreciate the booths. I think what threw me off was the service--specifically, what I assumed, was the "server". It took a minute for them to come take our drink order and then we kind of just waited for them to come back and take our food order but they never came back. It was confusing because it seemed like the person was a server but they were also at the bar eating with their friends and having a conversation so I didn't know if they actually worked there. It's wild cause they seemed pretty busy so I don't understand how they had time to do that but again, I'm assuming they were a server. We later moved to the bar because we assumed that's where we had to order food but that definitely threw me off. I left a tip but that was for the bartender because they did more than the other person. The food was not great. I heard good things about the carne asada fries but the amount of carne asada was minimal and it was just covered in what seemed like thick cheese that came from a can. One of the bartenders seemed cool. I could understand if they were understaffed on a busy night but overall I didn't feel the environment or the hospitality so I probably wont come back here. read more
