Baja Grill as the locals call it is off on the side of a strip mall, but nothing like a strip mall restaurant. It features an aquatic theme with a large aquarium and lots of blues and yellows. The food is mostly Mexican fare, and usually delivered quick and hot after you've eaten too many free chips from the chips and salsa. The salsa by the way is delicious. I get the chimichanga when I visit, they, like most locations I've visited over the years pack meat into the chimichanga without cheese (I once worked for a restaurant that put cheese in the Chimmi - was so darn good. But the cheese and sour crème served with the Chimmi is quite good and it's a filling and tasty meal. The Mexican rice and refried beans mix nicely with the Chimmi. I'm often there after attending a sporting event at Jacksonville State, and if you are doing the same this is a great stop before you head home. They have a ton of space, lots of tables, friendly servers and and large menu. Check them out when you're close by. read more

We have been here a few times and it's been fine. the first time we came it was great, but every experience since has gone steadily downhill tonight being the 1-star night! I won't bore you with all the details, but we got take-out to bring to my in-laws. My food was ok. I get the same dish all the time and for sure it was chintzy and ehh. But my husband got a steak quesadilla for $8.50. But what he got was crappier than a taco. He decided to DRIVE all the way back (4 miles) and when he talked to the manager, the manager said, that is what it is supposed to be.. My husband was appalled and said this is barely the size of a taco and there's hardly any steak or cheese. To which the manager replied, "No sir, our tacos are way smaller." CRAZY!!! Then the manager said we can put a couple pieces of steak on it. My husband said no thank you and asked for a refund (We had bought 3 other people dinner!) The manager flatly refused. It's your basic American Mexican restaurant but it's always delicious, the salsa always slaps, and I've never had a bad experience when eating in restaurant. Their take out system could use some work though. I've never had a take out order be correct unless it was ordered through door dash? I once got enchiladas and they didn't put sauce on them? My grandmother ordered a chicken salad thing (idr what it was exactly) and they didn't give any lettuce? It's always a wild time when you do pick up so make sure you check your food before you leave. Great abundance of parking is always nice, and the inside is also a basic but nice feeling space, even if the music can be a little loud at times. read more

What a beautiful restaurant! Been here twice and they don't disappoint. This restaurant is huge and it struck me when I walked in how clean and eye appealing it is. The bar is massive and not a chance they don't have a drink you want. The menu is pretty large and lots to choose from. The dip I had (yep that's a dip) is more like a meal! My wife went simple with a couple of tacos and was very happy with them. Very nice place with a smiling staff and the food was out quickly, was hot, and had really good flavors. I tried cutting the waiter some slack because it was a very busy night but it's hard to cut slack when we could see the guy standing at some computer for almost 20 whole minutes doing absolutely nothing! We had somewhere to be and were trying to catch their attention so that we could get the check, but it was almost like they were doing everything they could do avoid eye contact with our table!! I have never left a review for any business. But after eating at this joke of a restaurant, I have to say that this absolutely, by far, the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. The server didn't know what a margorona was. (It was the daily special every Saturday) It was the worst margarita I've ever had. I ordered a taco and a quesadilla. The taco was just meat and small amount of cheese. The quesadilla was the same size as the tiny taco. My wife's taco salad had some very weird tasting chicken in it. We couldn't eat most of our meal because it tasted terrible. We were charged more on every item than what the menu stated. $2.50 more on two items. I asked for hot sauce for the bland food, since there is none on the tables, and I was charged a buck and a half for a thimble sized cup of hot sauce. When we questioned the manager, he tried his best to explain away everything. Not one apology. The food sucked. The service was bad. The manager has no people skills and if you can't even make a decent margarita, I don't know what to say. Worst Mexican food I've had in my life. I will never go back. Zero stars. read more

This was my 2nd time to Baja, and It wasn't too shabby. The chips could have been salted better, however, the cheese dip FLAVOR will blow your socks off. Texture wise, I like my cheese a little thicker. I don't like the cheese to drip on my shirt on the way to my mouth. I'm a fan because this is the ONLY Mexican place that I have returned to on a regular basis. That being said, I'm from California and the Mexican food here in Alabama in general is horrible, it's beyond horrible, actually. BUT this place is tolerable, hence the 4 stars. Service has always been good when I go. Margaritas are really good. I've tried a few different things on the menu and have liked it. I will say that I have gotten the taquitos three times and all three times they have been filled with something different when the menu says ground beef. One time I got ground beef. One time I got shredded beef and one time I got steak chunks. I am really confused. Is it like a "meat of the day"? Hahaha. Used to love this place ... but DID NOT have a good experience last night! Worker bringing our menus was not friendly. She appeared to be unhappy with her job. Our napkins with our silverware were laying on the dirty plastic menus. Our waiter "Jose" was nice but neglected several items, 1)extra napkins...(for a 7 yr old with cheese dip), 2)serving spoons to dip fajita ingredients, and 3)keeping me with water to drink. My friend and I went Sunday after church and they were pretty busy. We were seated very quickly but the waitress walked past us, looked at us didn't say a word and proceeded to wait on another table that came in after us. Having grown up in California and my dad being in town from California I figured it was time to try this place out. I have given it 4 stars because I have finally come to terms with the fact that Mexican food in the south pretty much just sucks and I might as well start grading on a curve rather than using my own personal standards for this type of food. Using my own standard this place would get 2.5-3 stars. As others have said the interior looks awesome and the staff is great. The food had decent flavor but lacked spice (which is the norm down here). My Chimichanga was barely fried so the texture was strange and as I said before, it lacked spice despite being the "spicy chicken" variety. My dad ordered some sort of burrito and said it was "eh, not gross but not great". His plate was also severely chipped in several spots around the rim. I'm ordered a taco salad but since I'm a vegetarian asked for no meat since the menu stated there were beans. I also asked to add the green peppers, onions and cheese sauce that comes on the fajita taco salad, the waiter said this was not a problem. There were no beans when it arrived. He said they no longer add them... What?!? (would have been nice to know before I ordered). I had 1 slice of green pepper and a TON of onions, hardly any lettuce, no pico and had to ask after it was served about the cheese sauce (this was brought out separately). My meal was terrible, it was basically a plate of onions and absolutely not worth the $8.50 I was charged. The people I were with ordered fajitas and they had no green peppers as stated on the menu, only onions as well. Maybe they were out? Maybe they changed that menu item as well...
