Simply put their known nonsense good food, friendly service, chill ambience, and if you know, you know, the fish burrito is where it's at! I've been here countless numbers of times and I have to admit it's the only item I've ever gotten not because I don't have a large pallet but because it's just that good! You can customize it to an extent for example, I get mine with extra rice and extra cabbage. The rice is super fluffy. The cabbage is shredded super thin. This is a very popular place for fish tacos, burritos, and platters. They have chicken and steak as well, but I think the emphasis is on the fish. I had the blackened fish burrito. I found it very good. There was plenty of fish and it was very tasty. I thought it was a little in the dry side, though. I also had the charbroiled fish taco as well to try it out. I think the blackened was better, but adding some salsa from the salsa bar helped. My friend ordered the fish platter and tortilla soup. He said he gets it frequently and thinks it's great. Used to love coming here. They messed up my wife's order , we had ordered a taco plate with fish and asada tacos . We got home and my wife bit a taco and was chicken , she checked the other one and was also chicken. We had just gotten home from the kids practice and were all hungry so I call and they ask me to bring back the tacos that my wife already bit into. People would say that these are the best fish tacos. I say they are very, very good. The lines out the door do speak for the place, although I'm a bit picky when it comes to soft tacos. I would highly recommend their fish, have it in a taco, or in ceviche, it's super fresh. However I am not a fan of their non-fish tacos, or their rice and beans. The so called general manager, Mr. Oscar was like a senseless robot not offering any solutions to their poor handling of their customers. I have been coming to this restaurant since 1995, or 31 years and it was considered to be one of my favorite places but as we all know, in addition to good food, is a great service that makes you keep coming back. Orders: Blackened Fish Burrito-well seasoned fish with shredded lettuce was a light & healthy choice. I only wished there was rice & beans, but still good nonetheless. Enchiladas & 1 soft taco-great enchilada sauce with plenty of carne asada(additional cost). The meat was charred to give it that crispy edge & the seasoning was perfect. Although I initially wanted the soft taco's after seeing it for $5 each I opted for the burrito at $12 & it was another good alternative. I've been to Baja Fish on several occasions. My regulars are the shrimp enchilada plate- delish, carne asada quesadilla- to die for, and their shrimp ceviche- mouth watering. Today I decided to try their chicken bowl- it was lackluster. The chicken was boiled chicken, probably just with water and salt, white rice, beans, lettuce and some chopped tomato and onion. The bowl of food was large- but absolutely no amount of salsa could get me to have more than 4 spoons before I had to stop torturing myself. I'm glad I stepped out of the box and gave something different a try, at least now I know how the chicken bowl tastes. I'm definitely going back- I love Baja fish. read more

As soon as someone stands up to leave, their table is magically cleaned and ready for the next guests. I ordered the Shrimp Burrito ($17.00) add Sour Cream $.76, Pico De Gallo $0.00 and Avocado $2.32. Yes, it was expensive but it was delicious. The shrimp were large, plump and plentiful. The two taco combo was $13.25 and comes with rice and pinto beans. They used to have really good buttery herb rice. Now it's just plain rice with a touch of butter but still ok. Pinto beans were good. You used to be able to choose from a bunch of different kinds of fish but now its just one white fish option. We were here in 2014, 2016 and now 2024. Why only 4 stars, you ask? The prices are a bit high. We got cups for water and there are 3 water symbols on the fountain drink machine. Guess which one is plain water and not seltzer water? Not one bad plate on the menu(: My number one favorite is the carne asada nachos. The chips, cheese, guacamole and sour cream come in generous portions. The carne asada is tasty and grilled to perfection. The salsa bar is always consistent, fresh. My second favorite is the potato tacos. If you have never had an opportunity to eat a potato taco, you must come here. You won't want them anywhere else, It's quite a treat. The presentation alone will have your mouth watering. This restaurant is located near the market near by South Coast plaza. It is a crowded place, especially on the weekends. There are outdoor tables and an indoor seating place. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. When places are so popular and crowded, sometimes they get dirty. The salsa bar always has three to five people waiting for it. The pico is excellent. The guacamole is very good. Their rice is the best, ever. My shrimp taco was lacking shrimp. My fish taco was lacking seasoning. It was okay. I have been coming here since 2006 since we live in the area, and have to say that the food value has really gone downhill. We just went for two carne asada burritos which they now add beans and white rice inside. That's fine if that is your taste but what is not fine is the absence of meat in these burritos. This is now what I would call latin fusion food and has ingredients that are not of low quality, but are just not to my taste. Regardless of your food preferences, I think anyone who orders two $17 carne asada burritos, expects that it will include a reasonable amount of carne asada for that price.
