Regrettably, our recent dining experience at this establishment fell short of expectations. The inside of the restaurant was excessively warm, the parking situation sucks , and the overflowing trash bins were a stark reminder of the lack of cleanliness. Furthermore, the flavor of the meat was distinctly unusual, and we have no intention of returning to this location in the future.

This place has great food! I had an OG burrito with asada, very flavorful and fresh. I'd recommend and return for sure!

Quite a good experience. Came to fix my car nearby and was super hungry. All the restaurants nearby didn't look appetizing at all not even remotely so I decided to try some Papi Tacos. Consome was served hot in a cup of - consome is basically a soup with some onions. It is mostly liquid with nothing in it so don't expect to get full with it. Quesadilla was the best part of the menu for me - plenty of meet, cheese and juice. A taco was quite small that in the beginning I thought that that wouldn't be enough for me to get full. Service was quite good - I was asked whether i need the food here or to go. And then they even asked my name. Small details but they matter. Place is clean and located at the gas station. Restrooms are available with the code that you have to ask the staff. Generally clean and pleasant. Thank you for having me

This is a standalone spot that's connected to a gas station. I had to take my car in for service nearby and thought getting some tacos would be a good idea, because tacos are always a good idea. I saw on the map that papi tacos was close and I remembered in the past that I came up with the name Papi Churro for a Churro spot. I think they should call it Papi Churros just to make it more catchy. Anyways, the burrito here was pretty good. It was fried and I've never had anything like that. It comes with a pretty large cup of consome which is like the juice and drippings from the beef. You have to eat with a fork. Quick service and the food was legit. Not much of a vibe here. Think gas station diner...mostly workers nearby getting lunch. I'm okay with that. I'd rather pay for the food rather than fancy decor.

I've had my eyes in this place for a while. But each time I wanna go they are closed. Meaning I wanna go late at night. If I'm being honest this would hit late at night. Anyways to the review. Must I say I went inside and it felt quite open. You can see them cooking which is always a plus. You can see their kitchen was nice and clean! Had some plenty of seating with high tables, regular tables and even benches!!! The menu was nice and simple and didn't feel overwhelmed. The cashier was nice and I asked if I can sample the agua de Sandia and I will say I loved it. It wasn't too sweet and seemed pretty fresh!!! I ordered the OG plate which had plenty of items. The console was hot so be warned of sipping it!! Everything was sooooo good. Probably the best Burris I've had in a fat minute. Everything was soooo good!!! My friend said she gave it a 9/10 since she forgot to ask for no onions but if it didn't she would've given it a perfect score. Anyways the food is soooooo good. Don't sleep on it. Next time I'll try the burrito!!!

Go with the quesatacos, all 3 meats were very flavorful and seasoned well. The birria burrito was just a bit too greasy. This place is worth checking out. The employees are kind and the location is pretty casual as they have plenty of seating and parking up front.

I ordered the loaded baked potato OG and will return to try their queso taco! It was perfect for dinner. Their menu is al a carte.

yummy food and good prices! inside was nice with a good amount of seating. it threw me off a little since it's located in a gas station but don't let that deter you! menu is simple and everything is priced so well for what you're getting! got the og burrito with birria and it comes with a side of consome. the birria was super tender and not super fatty like places i've had before! my only complaint is that their red onion was cut into very large chunks inside the burrito, other than that it was a great size for the price! also got a side of beans and rice, beans were standard and the rice was super flavorful. i'll definitely be coming back to try the churros as well!!

Papi Tacos & Churros in Santa Ana absolutely hit the spot. I got the carne asada burrito 10/10, packed with flavor, juicy meat, and wrapped up in a perfectly warm tortilla. The pineapple agua fresca was also a 10/10 super refreshing, just the right balance of sweet and tangy. And then there was the birria quesadilla with consome... yup you guessed it also a 10/10. Rich, cheesy, crispy on the outside, and absolutely loaded inside. The portions here are huge and the prices are great. I usually have a pretty big appetite, but this meal put me in a full on food coma, I literally went home and took a nap right after. To top it off, I shared the quesadilla with my brother! Didn't even have room for one of their famous churros (next time for sure). Service is quick and very friendly, which makes the experience even better. The inside is modern and vibrant, with great music playing that adds to the energy of the place. Bonus: there's a gas station right next door where I grabbed a Mexican Coke because let's be honest, what's Mexican food without a Mexican Coke? This place is pure comfort food heaven, and I'm already planning my return trip.

O.G. Plate. Birria Taco, birria quesataco, birria mulita and a birria quesadilla. With consume.
    Mike S.

I had the O.G. Plate. Birria Taco, birria quesataco, birria mulita and a birria quesadilla. With consume. (I swear the consume had a hint of mole in it. Yum) I also couldn't resist the churros with dulce de leche. So good. So sweet. Good price for what you get and the service was super. They also have carne asada, grilled with mesquite and pollo asado, smoked with mesquite. But the birria is why I came here. Cooked for 16 hours. Everything was super delicious and fresh. Even the red and green salsa was delicious. I'm nearby for work and will be back in a couple of days.

Pollo asado burrito and birria quesadilla with consumé. Red and green salsa

This place delivers from the first bite to the last sip. I ordered the pollo asado burrito and it was genuinely excellent. The chicken had a beautiful char and a deep smoky flavor that stood out immediately, far more pronounced than anywhere else I've had pollo asado. It tasted intentional, bold, and perfectly balanced. The birria was just as impressive. Rich, tender, and deeply flavorful, with a consommé so good my friend literally drank it straight. That alone should tell you everything you need to know. We planned on trying the churros but waved the white flag. Next time. The space itself has a great vibe. Clean, inviting, and thoughtfully designed, with a pop of red that adds warmth and personality without trying too hard. Service was smooth and friendly, exactly what you want when the food is doing this much of the talking. This is the kind of meal that lingers in your memory. Already looking forward to the return.

I came here with my family to eat, and it did not disappoint! Food was great, we tried a little bit of everything on the menu. Their churros for dessert were especially amazing. Service was good, it's fast casual and this place is next to a gas station, but it was still super clean and overall an enjoyable experience.

    Christian U.

Papi tacos and churros doesn't look like much on the outside . It's right next to a gasoline station. The food price point is mid to high but the quality of their birria is on point that's what there known for .the ambiance is ok not bad but not great . The service to be honest fell short and that's the only reason why I'm giving them a 3 star rating . The workers there were dry and not very helpful . Seemed like they diddnt wanna be there which I get and understand but there's no way to give customers looks

Ask the Community - Papi Tacos & Churros

Is there a Halal certificate posted?

It's posted on their website. The physical space has a clean look so their certificates of the restaurant in general are not in the front windows like other places.

    Do you do catering?

    Yes

Hi is the meat here halal?

All the meat here is halal, as it is at their other locations.

Is the entire menu zabiha halal? If so, is the meat hand or machine slaughtered?

The entire menu is certified zabiha halal. I'm unsure about the hand vs. machine slaughtering but the certification is personally enough for me.

Their salads are delicious, and the quesadillas? Chef's kiss. I'm actually really picky about quesadillas because, for some reason, the cheese at a lot of places messes with my stomach. But whatever they're using here agrees with me perfectly. Honestly... not even a 1,000/10. If you haven't tried this spot yet, you're missing out.

There's plenty of indoor seating and some outdoor seating as well. Food came relatively quickly as well for all of us, and drinks came out right away. Wait was maybe 5-10 minutes but all the food was freshly made! FOOD: They don't have too big of a menu, but that's not bad. I tried the carne asada, el pastor, and the mushroom tacos + queso tacos. The tacos were a lot bigger than larger tacos, coming at roughly $4 per taco. I would recommend the queso tacos because i LOVE cheese but the regular tacos are good. The quesadillas were very filling and there was a lot to them as well if you want something that'll fill you up more than a taco. SERVICE: Service was good. Everyone who helped us was very nice. PARKING: There is street parking and parking lots around the area for you to walk in--all of which are paid parking. You can use an app for the lots or use coins for the street parking. I've gone here during the day and night and I haven't had any issues with parking at all. INTERIOR: The interior is very simple: warm tones with benches. If you have a big party, you most likely will have to split up between multiple tables. For us, a party of 10, we divided it between 4 and 6, though the 6 was a tight fit. BATHROOM: Clean. Nothing crazy when I went there. I'm pretty sure you can use the bathroom too even if you don't buy anything. LOCATION: This place is in downtown Santa Ana, so there are a lot of shops for you to look around, eat at, or shop at if you go during the day. Very fun to eat tacos here and then go on a walk afterwards :)) TLDR: A very good taco spot to go eat if you want good tacos. They're open till 10pm weekdays and midnight on weekends as well. Decent variety that's fresh and very flavorful

It's hard to find a good Taco Tuesday but they do a great job helping the community and keeping the prices $1.50 for basic meats like pollo, asada, and al pastor. I personally love my lengua and this truck has some of the best I've tried! It is a bit pricier but definitely worth it given the taste/quality. A couple things about the condiments--green sauce is spicier than you think, red one is more of a salsa and not that hot. Radishes are unfortunately not very crunchy/juicy at this location so I don't get it as often as I would at other taco spots. If you're ever in a rush, they do phone orders AND DoorDash. First off, I really love that they use charcoal to cook their meat. That smoky flavor is something you just can't replicate with other cooking methods, and it definitely stands out. They also give a generous amount of sides and avocado with every taco, which I really appreciated. I ordered the tripe, chorizo, and carne asada tacos. The carne asada was good--nice flavor overall, though it could use just a touch more salt. Still very enjoyable and easy to overlook. I'd give the asada a 8/10. The tripe taco was where I struggled a bit. I usually like tripe with a bit of bite and crunch, but this one was way too crunchy. At one point I genuinely wondered if I was going to crack a tooth . It also needed more salt.If they cooked this a little less honestly this would be much higher on my rating. I'd rate the tripe a 5.5/10. The chorizo was well cooked and flavorful. Like many places now, the seasoning was lighter so you can adjust it yourself, which I don't mind at all. I'd give the chorizo a 7/10. Overall, this is a decent taco truck with some solid flavors and good portions. Worth checking out, especially if you appreciate charcoal-grilled meat.
