I haven't really checked the reviews for Baja, and I am legitimately amazed by any of the negative reviews, like do you people know good food?!?!? I've been all over the world, including Mexico and this food wouldn't be on the top of the list internationally, but the FOOD IS DELISH!!! I come here just about every week, and they are consistently good. I usually get the chimi, less often the tacos and other dishes. The food is fresh, flavorful, and meat is always cooked perfectly. The ladies and gents that work there are polite, very pleasant, and get whatever you want quickly. There are more than enough seats to dine in, and there is usually good music in the background, thus good vibes! Seriously, forget about the bozos that negatively review this spot. Great food, fair prices, ambience is just ok though. Each of this local chains locations is decorated differently from all the others. No two of them are alike. This particular location is in a strip plaza with ample free parking. I always order the same thing, but I sampled a few different items off of the menu over the years hard and soft tacos. Update 30 mins later, I'm feeling sick to my stomach after eating half a burrito and it feels exactly how incidental avocado ingestion (I'm allergic) feels to me, so either the food was bad or they're not being mindful of the serving spoons. I, a Rhody native who frequently visited Cilantro's when it was in this same location was pleased to see another similar restaurant replace it and decided to give it a shot. Being a first time customer, it was a bit difficult to orient myself and get an idea of the choices with a piñata in the way (and I am a huge piñata fan, but whose idea was it to put it SMACK in front of the meat options on the menu?! Practically everyone needs to look at that screen!! Given the booming surround sound, I had to practically yell to the person taking my order, who still couldn't hear me, and seemed annoyed at my existence. I ordered a burrito and 3 tacos for the fam. None of the meat looked seasoned, and the veggies looked hard. They started prepping my burrito, but the tacos were lagging behind, so I was in a bit of taco purgatory trying to tell the second frustrated person waiting for me to check out. I checked out, brought the food home...It was nothing special. Seriously no better than if I made it at home; the ingredients really didn't meld with each other, the queso was runny, the chips don't have salt on them. For $31 I was unimpressed. Usually when I eat out I expect something better than I'd make at home (despite considering myself a good cook), and I feel like the culinary scene in RI is so competitive that mediocre in RI would be considered fabulous elsewhere. Soups are sooo satisfying. Shrimp, veggies, extra cilantro. Yes please. Husband gets the chicken soup with black beans and veg. It always comes with a handful of chips and a tiny cup of guac, which they make fresh daily. Do yourself a favor and get a side order of chips, guac and pico. Ordering online is more expensive, so I stop in and the place is packed, no one is six feet apart more like 2 feet apart, It's packed more than pre-covid at six feet apart the line would have been 25 feet out of the door. Their website says: "As concerns about COVID-19, we want to assure you that we are closely monitoring the situation and taking additional precautions to keep our teams and customers safe. Effective March 17, it will be takeout only. You can order online or walk in for takeout. We also have delivery available from our Grubhub and UberEats partners. Thank you all and stay safe and healthy! So they are profiting on covid, by charging more to order takeout ahead of time, and then potentially spreading it by not having social distancing. So they are insuring a long line, because people don't want to pay more by ordering online. Been here twice so far. Each time got the taco shell salad, once w/pork and once w/steak. The pork is moist and flavorful. The steak is moist as well but I prefer the pork due to more flavor. Chipotle who? This place is great. I've been here a few times and have absolutely no complaint whatsoever. I appreciate the meat and flavor options - sometimes you want more than just plain chicken and regular pulled pork - so when you can have chipotle or buffalo chicken, or pernil as an option - yes please. The food here is great! It's the people that are the problem. Placed an order online and there is a line of people ordering in person, go to the register and get an attitude. The woman who has been a problem and rude before was wait for it, rude again. Says I have to wait while she clears the line, while in the meantime my food sits getting cold. I favor the Baja company over the other Tex-Mex chains. I was in the area and decided to pick up some food before heading home, back into PVD; do yourself a favor and just head to Thayer St, even with the busy, condensed st. and tons of college students, you'll get your food faster than stopping at his location. It took me at least 40 minutes to get food, being 4th in line. After waiting to order my food, while cashing out the clerk just walked away to answer the phone, and left us waiting 10 minutes to pay. Also, in all my years eating at Baja, I've never been charged for the sauces, and given that the cashier left for 10 min. to answer the phone, she still wanted to charge me for second side of salsa- not happening!
