I was in the area for work and wanted check this place out. I know that this place is more of a day program for either neuro divergent or developmentally disabled young adults rather than a straightforward restaurant. The food experience was two stars at best however Ive added an extra star because of what they do. I got takeout. FYI the food is super inauthentic. Chicken Burrito Bowl - the chicken had decent flavor but zero spice, was cooked fresh and cooked perfectly. The pico was practically all onion though. Needed way more tomato but cilantro and lime proportions were good. Ground Beef Tacos - ground beef was a bit greasy and the crunch taco shell was stale. The crunchy taco shells are Old El Paso.. the boxes are in the kitchen. There's no spice heat in the food. They had no hot sauce available (?!?). They also had no guac the day i was there which is like 35% of the burrito bowl experience. Soo yeah, the experience definitely leans toward the negative. Its balanced out by what they are doing as a day program and the fact that there isn't an alternative option nearby. read more

Heard they were selling Onlyville Coney Island Hot Dogs. I walked in about 4PM, only customer in there. I ordered 3 dogs with the works, waited for almost 20 minutes. When my order finally arrived the bun was stale and mealy, almost like saw dust and the expected hot dog inside was a COLD dog. One bite was more then enough, total garbage. Requested and received a refund. Can't see how this place will be in business long. Would never step foot in there again..... read more

Definitely not Mexican food, but it isn't Tex-Mex either. I don't enjoy speaking ill of individually owned businesses so I'll be as blunt and professional as I am able.. yeah where to start. Took nearly 30 minutes for my friend and I to get our food. There were 3 other people in there with food when we ordered. Gotta work on timing. The carnitas tacos had no crispiness It was literally pulled pork, no seasoning, no crispiness. I thought they were just naming their carnitas "pulled pork" so people who have never had the joy of carnitas be pleasantly surprised. Nope it was just pulled pork and that's weird. I had the carne asada tacos named as "steak" tacos the corn tortilla was crisp and brittle like a taco bell "shell" again, weird. And they came without salsa. That's not a taco, so I asked for some salsa and they pointed me to a bin with, get this, some Louisiana style vinegar based packets and I think another was Sriracha? Bizarre. Like a fever dream where things take on literal meaning. I think when they researched salsa they confused it with hot sauce, which is fine, but you have to go with the correct country of origin. I asked for salsa again describing a pico style salsa. I received a small to go ramikin with chopped tomatoes, which tasted tinny, like from a can. Not a shred of onion, chiles, lime, salt nothing. Which points us back to my initial posit that this place wasn't Mexican and it wasn't Tex-Mex; you, the dear reader, are finding out why now. No onions and cilantro for tacos, just lettuce and cheese like Taco Bell. No idea what kind of research the owners did for a menu, if at all. This is either a family style taco bell, dreamt up by a New Englander-who thinks Taco Bell is Mexican food-or an Aaron Sanchez and Cladette Zepeda nightmare collaboration fever dream. The churros were decent but hard on the edges which meant they were either frozen and reheated, or old. I've been to Rte 12 taco 3 times now and yet to be disappointed. Prices are very reasonable. I've had tacos, chicken wings, fried Mac n cheese and the chili cheese fries. All so good! There have been many other restaurants at this locations. I think this one is a keeper! They need more local support unless your a taco hell fan. A roadside dive worth the stop in my opinion! Update 7/2018- very disappointed with the wait times lately. The staff is s very friendly but clearly needs some common sense training. First of all I'd like to start with I know the location is new for these folks. And their not entirely finished with the interior work. The place looks like it's gonna be great when it's finished. Second the wait time was over 30 mins for 3 tacos a burrito and some chips and cheese. Third the food was somehow cold and soggy when we finally got it. The rice was so starchy and stuck in a pile. And she said she just made it fresh. The fish tacos were ok. The cabbage slaw was in huge slices- didn't like that so much. The hard shell on the chicken taco was soggy not crunchy which ruined the taco completely. The tomatoes were not fresh - too ripe or sat in the fridge for a good time. Beans were cold. The burrito was also cold and nothing special. The nachos omg - cheese wasn't barely melted and was a huge chunk of cold mess. Sorry but I would not recommend this place. Maybe they just need to work out some kinks but 30 mins should be MORE than ample time to have the food we ordered prepared delicious and hot. read more

After seeing all these poor reviews of my beloved Route 12 Taco, i decided to do some investigating of my own....Twas a warm muggy June evening, i ordered the classics; a steak burrito with a large french fry (; After being quoted 15 minutes for my meal, i waited 20 and casually strolled in and paid for my meal. They said it was nearly ready and they would bring it out to me. 40 minutes later after waiting on their splinting picnic tables, i decided i had waited long enough. I went inside expecting my plump warm burrito waiting for me and to my dismay, somehow my food had managed to go below room temperature. My french fries were so cold they made me french cry. In conclusion, my findings are consitent with the negative reviews. read more

This place is up the road from me and is only open a few hours per day and when you call in your food is never ready for the time they tell you to pick it up, they are closed for dinner and on mondays. The place up the road is way better and more professional. read more

I havnt actually eaten from here yet although writing a review in regards to customer service- I called on a Friday night around 7:30 and had a lengthy order- probably 6 things total. And was on the phone for about 5-7 min with the person taking my order. Once my order was complete he says ok take out is taking about an hr!! Don't you think yu should have mentioned that before I gave you the long order! Needless to say we gave our business to another restaurant that only was taking 20 min for take out. The Rt. 12 Taco we all know and loved is finally back after being closed since December! We get takeout from here frequently (probably on average once every other week or so) and the food has never truly disappointed. We were a little wary/worried after seeing all the kvetching about the reopening on Griswold Now on FB BUT we decided to take a chance and they certainly gave us the quality food we've always loved. I usually get the fish tacos or chicken quesadillas or the chili but tonight got the pulled pork quesadillas and I think that's going to be my go-to from now on! Guacamole is fresh and wonderful. Had the chicken enchiladas with refried beans and Santa Fe rice. The beans and rice were good. The enchiladas were ok but they were a little heavy on the sour cream and we cold in the middle. The staff was very nice and the restaurant was very clean. Overall it was ok. I'd give them a second chance but would try the tacos next time. read more

I had high hopes for good tacos but was sadly disapointed. The service was extremely slow especially for an assembly line taco shop. My family got a mix of various types of tacos. Well we will start with I was the first one through the door and 4 to 5 people behind me got their food before me . It's a Saturday and there's no prep there's no chicken there's no lettuce cut very unprepared. In the roughly 30 minutes it took to get three hard tacos and two taco salads I watched a huge service failure even though they wear gloves I witnessed them take raw chicken and touch the seasoning bottles with the same hand the raw chicken was in and then place it back down on the counter very scary . So in my conclusion even though the food was tasty but by no means a 10 they have a broken process . not being prepared , the place was dirty I had to clean my own table there's an inch of dust on the air conditioners, there's dead bugs laying all over the place no one came out to clean the eating area or change the trash cans that were overflowing . I don't write this review to deter people from eating there everybody has to have their own experience, unfortunately for me it was not pleasant. read more

I was apprehensive when my buddy decided we would eat at this little hole in the wall. I was even more concerned when we went in as the inside needs some work for sure. We ordered the steak fajitas and a burrito. The food was fantastic and fresh. Portions are good as well, we are two bigger guys and we were full when we left. The wait is a little on the long side but it's well worth it for good fresh food at a reasonable price. If you aren't in a rush I highly recommend it. My craving for taco salads typically goes unsatisfied as our local eateries usually serve the standard fare. So, my husband and I were thrilled to hear that a new place had opened up on Rte 12. I was hesitant as I usually am about trying a new place for the first time, but I was very happy to find that my hesitation was not necessary. Route 12 Taco is fantastic. From the second we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly employee who took our order and who was patient as we navigated the menu for the first time. They have a very reasonably priced and inexpensive menu. After paying, we moved to the left side to wait and were able to see into the kitchen area and watch as they made our food. The employees in the back were just as friendly, asking us about more options. Did we want salsa with that? How about some taco sauce? Did we get our plastic utensil packages by the cash register? We felt very well taken care of. They do have benches outside, but we had already decided to eat at home, so maybe we will eat there next time. And there will be a next time. The food is great. We loved it so much that we ordered from there again last night. Each item that we have tried so far has been delicious and encourages me to try other items on the menu, which is actually a big deal for me as I find that I usually stick to a select few items on most menus once I find I like something. I imagine that Route 12 Taco is going to be a big hot spot for us. Try it. You will not be sorry. read more

Went here for lunch today. My wife ordered the taco trio with steak for the meat and I ordered the same thing but with sour cream. Hers came out perfectly. Mine came out as ground beef. While the folks there are extremely nice and took back my tacos apologetically, when they replaced it, they left off the sour cream. One bite and I could tell it was dry. Not wanting to embarrass my wife, I didn't go back up to them ANOTHER time. Instead I watched her eat her crunchy tacos (she uses hot sauce for flavor and to combat dry tacos, I am not a fan of hot sauce) and then we ran right up the street to buy a small sour cream to add. By the time I added the sour cream, my crunchy tacos were a soggy disgusting, flavorless mess. Our whole meal came to a little over $20 so that I could watch my wife enjoy crunchy tacos. I feel like I donated half of that, against my wishes, and am now the only one who has not eaten. read more
