WHEN TACOS ARE LIFE... Ok so this unassuming restaurant has been around for YEARS and while I have my favorites from their menu, (as in, the homemade horchata and steak tostadas), I recently tried their birria tacos with consome for the first time.... And BOY OH BOY, I can't help but to crave them right now as I type this out. Juicy, succulent and perfectly spiced, the meat just falls apart! I didn't even realize they didn't come with cheese until now because I honestly didn't miss it. As someone who eats A LOT, I found these surprisingly filling, although the platter only comes with 3 (haha I guess that's the normal portion size....heck, maybe even 2 is what others places are serving). Anyway, I had an excellent meal and decided to dine in this time around - service was great! Parking is the only thing that always gives me a bit of trouble as it's on-street so be cautious of that. This place only offers street parking. It's a small restaurant and plenty of tables if you arrive before 3pm. The staff are attentive and explained each dish and were able to make accommodation to some of my family who had dietary restrictions. I ordered some Classic flauntas! My favorite dish with chicken. Each roll had chicken filling and looked large because it has two tortillas rolled into one to extend the tortilla roll! The dish had 3 large flauntas, and it was very crunchy and savory. Toppings were lettuce and refried beans. I asked for no cheese or sour cream and I'm glad they accommodate my preference! Delicious and authentic. read more

So nice to visit again! And indulge in our fave dishes (and satisfy those cravings ...) Excellent friendly and attentive service. We started with queso fundido (so indulgently cheesy and tasty) and chips & refried beans. Then we had various types of tacos: I had the barbacoa, carnitas, and the chicken (which I'd never had before). All were good (but next time, I'll pass on the chicken for the shredded pork or beef). Unfortunately, our all-time favorite - lengua - was unavailable due to the current high cost of beef tongue. (Hopefully, once the Fed stops raising rates and pushes inflation back down, lengua will be affordable enough for these savory street tacos ...). My wife's mushroom quesadillas were also very good. This time we tried something new: the ensalada de nopales. This was very flavorful (muy picante!) and delicious. We will be adding this to our favorites list! read more

I wasn't expecting peas in every dish but not a big deal, a little pricey the prices are not the same online. It's very decorative inside wasn't very many people there's a small bar too. If I was to suggest a plate I would suggest the carne asada burrito and if you don't like peas be sure to mention that! read more

One of the best! Been going here for maybe 30 years. I tend to stay with the small things so I can have a variety of foods and meats, so I'll get a taco, a Gordita and a tostado. My suggestion is to mix and match from that part of the menu. The tortas are amazing, and so are the burritos. Everything I've gotten from the main dishes part of the menu was solid, but that's not my go to. The chips and guacamole are fantastic (the chips are on top of some super tasty refried beans and the chips must be house made), but now we're getting to the reason that I removed one star: The chips and guacamole are $13! The guacamole comes in the sized cup you'd get when you get a soup as a side in a restaurant, and the chips are on a dessert sized plate. They are excellent, but $13? Far too much. Avocados are about $3 retail, how much can some chips and this layer of refried beans be? The rest of the prices are totally reasonable. I don't get it. I'd say a fair price for the chips and guacamole would be about $8 or $9. read more

Cool little spot with authentic Mexican food. Fast service, great prices and delicious cocktails. It's quite small and somewhat cozy. To be honest, everything on the menu looks good. My garlic shrimp had the perfect amount of seasoning, the rice taste great and all the veggies were fresh but chicken was a bit bland. They have some of the best chips I've tasted, grade A guacamole.. it's A must have appetizer. I do think they should have a hostess, it was a bit awkward when I walked in with no one to greet me but overall I'd come again. Street parking only. Used to go here all the time back in the day. I stopped going because there are comparable and cheaper Mex options in town. Can't remember why my wife and I decided to go back the other night, but it might be because my wife loves their potato quesadillas and needed a fix. Anyway, we sat at the bar and had 2 really tasty frozen mango Margaritas. We split some chips which are served on a thin bed of refried beans (nice touch). Along with the potato quesadillas, we had 3 rolled tacos (taquitos) which were also served on a thin bed of refried beans. Anyway, the place hasn't changed much. Quaint and pretty clean. The food is still really good and the prices are still a little more than other comparable options. That said, they serve some unique dishes that will probably bring us back again. read more

This place is just around the corner from me and me and my girlfriend order once every couple weeks for delivery from Grubhub. The food is consistently outstanding. I had to struggle to separate the chips from each other. The amount of beans is minimal. The cheese once melted and cools acts like a super glue. I do not recommend it. A great find for Brown parents wanting to get off the Thayer/Federal Hill route. Very informal spot in an ethnic neighborhood next to a very large laundromat. This is not the Atwells of the fine dining Italian restaurants, Other end. Super gracious server- the opposite of a chain or American-catering. Guacamole and beans homemade and distinctive. I FOUND THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN PROVIDENCE. This place has the most authentic full of flavor Mexican cuisine around. The enchiladas have a sauce that has kick and the pulled chicken inside is moist and full. Even the side of rice is incredible. The homemade chips and guac are a perfect start. The guac is simple; no tomatoes and not a lot of onion. I typically like more in my guac, but the chips made up for the lack of tomatoes. The queso fondito is how queso should be; not the jello thick consistency of a jar of tostitos that I end up settling for. It is stringy and real cheese which can be served with chorizo. I had a very bad experience with their food. I strictly ordered vegetarian meal and ask them to make sure there is no meat at all. I was served with fajitas with a piece of steak. I ask them to remake my order but I have a feeling same plate was returned back to me after some inspection. The veggies were tasteless. After hearing rave reviews from two of my most trusted food-loving friends, I was so excited to finally try Garibaldi. Sadly, my evening there was much of a disappointment, and I can't even bear the thought of returning. Firstly, the waitress insulted one of us right off the bat - a very personal, inappropriate question that should never be asked by anyone, ever. That preeeeeety much set the tone. Then, when we finally got our order it was all over the place and took for-EVER. Ever. Ever. And the food.... Maybe it was an off night, but I was nowhere close to making sweet, sweet music with those flautas. The lights were turned off before we were done with our meal, and we weren't even asked if we wanted flan (which we did). When my friends said they wanted the remainder of their food to go, the server actually asked (eh-hem,) "Can I bring you the box for you to do it yourself, or do you want me to do it?" I'm sorry, what? Who trained this person? The final kicker: It wasn't even that cheap. Like, at all. I probably could have paid the same amount for a mind-blowingly amazing meal at Loie Fuller or Broadway Bistro - seriously. We absolutely love this restaurant. A friend tuned me in just over a year ago and now we eat here often. When you have a craving for Mexican food, come on over to Mexico. Have to be honest and say that I've eaten mostly the breakfast dishes or burritos with just beans and vegetables, but it's worth a visit. Oh and the best part is that they are willing to make the breakfast dishes all the time, no matter what time of day. Closed Mondays, so you must get your fix the other 6 days of the week. I have been going to Mexico Garibaldi since 2009 and I can confidently report that I love this place! It's a great deal: plenty of good food, good drinks and Telemundo in the background. What more can you ask for? My favorite items are the barbacoa de chivo, gorditas, huarache, tamales. Oh, the tamales! Soft, flavorful and filled with well-seasoned meat, you get three for $6. Just writing about them makes me eager to return! I have heard wonderful reports about their mole from dinner companions and my girlfriend smiles each time she takes her first bite of her tacos or enchiladas. I normally don't get alcohol at Mexico, but they have some things to choose from. Of course you shall find tequila if that is what you are in the mood for. I just stick with my horchata and water. I had made plans with a couple of cousins to head up to Providence for some authentic Mexican food, tacos specifically. We were actually headed to a different spot, which in our rush to make the plan - none of us bothered to take notice that they were closed on the day we had chosen. After a brief discussion as to where we should end up for this affair - we settled on Mexico Garibaldi since it's one cousin's hands down favorite. We each had a Michelada or two - which were perfectly spiced, refreshing and what goes best with tacos. We also ordered chips to munch on while waiting for our dinner. The chips were hardy, and from what I could tell - made fresh in the kitchen. They had a thin layer of refried beans near the bottom and also came with two excellent salsas. I happily ordered more than I should have as I had been waiting for this taco journey for a few weeks. My taco order consisted of pastor (seasoned shredded pork), Carne Asada, Barbacoa (shredded goat), and Carnitas. Each was fantastically flavored, savory Mexican deliciousness. Mexico Garibaldi was an outstanding nite out with family, and the tacos were as good as any I've had in LA, San Diego or Baja California. I'll certainly be back for more. read more

If I could give this a place a zero i would. I ordered takeout for 6:30, we picked it up at 6:30. It took 3 minutes to drive home and open it. Everything was ice cold with tiny portions. I ordered a tortilla soup and they sent it with the tortillas so it was pudding...not soup...and completely inedible. Also we ordered tacos which were upside down in the bag. I called and asked only for them to replace the soup as it was inedible and I would drive back over and get it. They refused. I then pointed out that my food was ice cold, my tacos upside down and all of it had clearly been sitting out for 20 minutes and all I wanted was for them to replace the soup and I would come get it myself. They said "there is nothing I can do for you". I asked for a manager and was told they had left and would be back the next day. I then asked for the first name (specifically first name) of the woman on the phone who had been incredibly rude and she refused to tell me. I asked why and she said "I cannot". I repeatedly said I would like to speak to your manager and mention you tomorrow to which she replied "you can call back for a manager tomorrow but answering the phone could be anyone" and hung up on me. I don't know what happened to this place, it was pretty okay but today it was truly disgusting. I had the flautas (chicken) and my companion had the Mexican steak. Both dishes were horrendous!!
