Inside of the New Age Mart, this branch of Bake Culture is quite convenient if you have to go shopping anyway. The shop serves some decent quality baked goods and pastries. They have a sizable selection for a relatively small store. Service feels somewhat lackluster at times.

Better than Fayda and Taipan, but could be better. The prices are on the higher side for their buns, but the prices are decent for cakes. It's located inside New Age Supermarket. They do have their own entrance. They run deals such as buy 4 get 1 free, which make prices better. I do find it odd that sometimes their breads are in the refrigerator, which their freshness questionable. The service is no frills. There are 2 very small tables to sit inside. My kids love their bunny hotdog bun which is cute.

Convenient bakery located next to / inside a Chinese grocery store ( New Age 興旺超市)。I especially like that each bread is individually sealed. It stays soft and moist for at least 2-3 days. Great variety of bread to choose from. Lately when I get there late 7:30 pm ( closes at 8 pm), it's buy 3 get one free. Staff said the promotion changes depends on how many bread left. Recently I saw a new sign for Mon and Thur only buy one get one 50% off. It says summer cake special offer. I wonder if it applies to cake only. One star deducted due to inconsistency of bread filling. Two red bean bread: one is filled with red bean heavily while the other is totally opposite. You can just feel the weight difference in two bread.

Bubble Milk Tea and Lychee Green Tea

I've gotten bread here a few times over the past few months and it's definitely yummy- a little pricey compared to the typical Chinese bakeries in flushing, but still yummy. My friend told me she's been getting the milk tea from here quite often, so we decided to get some after we got lunch nearby. I got a bubble milk tea for my brother and a lychee green tea for myself. The milk tea was good! It reminded me of the milk tea I would get as a kid, back when all the million bubble tea places didn't exist lol! The tapioca wasn't great though, it was too soft and not sweet at all. The lychee green tea was really sweet, even though I asked for less sugar. It has some sort of lychee jelly... tapioca kind of thing on the bottom. The texture was something I'd never had before, but I liked it. I liked both drinks and would probably come back if I were getting groceries or just in the area.

9 mini moon cakes per box

Moon Festival day is here! I have waited a while to get some fresh moon cakes (lotus paste with salted egg yolks). My usual go to place has been Fay Da bakery, which makes the best mini moon cakes, which are sized for one person. A friend of mine suggested that I try Bake Culture, which also makes mini moon cakes. I always tell my kids to try new things, so I guess I can't be a hypocrite. On a presentation standpoint, Bake Culture delivers, as each moon cake is packaged in its own plastic clam shell. Once I took a bite, I felt that it was a little dry. There was a little too much breading/crust compared to the amount of lotus paste/egg. For a larger moon cake, you wouldn't likely notice, but for a mini moon cake? Hard to miss. Next year, back to Fay Da Bakery.

Bake Culture is one of my go-to bakeries for whole cakes. The prices are very reasonable, with 6 inch cakes for less than $30, and great quality with perfect sweetness in the cream and fluffy batter. They also provide a "Happy Birthday" sign with candles upon request at no additional charge. Love it! I've tried the blueberry cake, chocolate cake, mixed fruit cake, and green tea cake with red bean. All of them are delicious so pick whatever flavor you're feeling for. The pastries are also pretty good, although on the pricier end. I like to buy their egg tarts every now and then, for a sweet treat. As for drinks, I recommend their iced milk tea!

Bake Culture is one of my favorite bakeries in Flushing. I've been coming here for awhile now and tried quite a bit. They have a good variety of pastries, breads, cakes and drinks to choose from and most importantly, everything is fresh & I really appreciate their creativity in decorating the breads, making it almost too cute to eat. My favorites are probably the scallion pork floss roll, scallion bread, pork floss bread and egg tarts. I was definitely taking advantage of their $1 egg tarts last year. Their Japanese jiggly cheesecake is pretty good too, tasted almost like Keki. This place is worth trying out if you're in the area. Located inside the New Age Market with a large parking lot.

We visit Bake Culture when we are craving for Taiwanese pastries. The decor is bright, clean but narrow-spaced. Their product line-up is various with decent price. We were there for their pineapple bun but they ran out that day but the Purple Sweet Potato Bread caught my eye. I am a super fan of fillings made from root veggies like sweet potato, Ube, taro... etc so I bought it without hesitation. The purple Sweet Potato Bread was delicious with creamy & rich sweet potato filling. The layer was thin but different from my expectation, I thought it would be chewy like mochi.

Hidden in this Asian food market is a good bakery. We stopped by after shopping for egg tarts and bakery goodies. Coffee is good too.

I came for these. German egg tarts.
    Katrina C.

My MIL raved about this place and their egg custards so I had to see for myself. Nothing to write home about. I feel like its just like any regular bakery. I literally bought 20 egg custards and 6 german tarts and some cute hotdog buns. ( i know i went nuts on the egg tarts, but i live far and i specifically drove here for the rave). Some customers were shocked and said " wow buying so many" lol Not impressed *shrug* Anyway, the cashiers were nice. And theres a supermarket connected to this bakery. So perhaps you can come try their famous german tarts and afterwards go food shopping? Guess whos eating 25 egg tarts? You guessed it... my MIL.

Moldy bread 2nd day after purchase. Gross. Didn't even have a chance to eat even a slice. $4 wasted.
    Eva W.

Purchased their loaf bread on Sunday and moldy by Tuesday. Didn't even have chance to eat even a slice. $4 wasted. Also their egg tart advertised as $1 each is packaged in 2 so minimum is $2. Taste like $1 egg tarts! Better to spend $1.5 elsewhere and get better quality. Never buying anything else from 5gis bakery.

Bake Culture should be called Babe Culture with spokespeople like these ... Vanness Wu, Calvin Chen and Chun Wu. This is a Taiwanese owned bakery serving Asian and European inspired baked goods. This particular Flushing location is super convenient as it's tucked street side inside/part of the New Age Mart (Chinese Supermarket). I've been coming to this location even before it was Bake Culture and let me tell you, grabbing a bun to snack on while grocery shopping or buying some desserts for after grocery shopping, it's a win win for all. The displays are filled with delectable baked goods ranging from egg tarts (my family's favorite) to cheesecake. Think Chocolate or egg yolk croissants and pork floss buns. I bought the classic roast pork bun and ham and egg this visit; just like what I used to buy at any old school Chinese Bakery only prettier. The dessert fridge carries cheesecake, fruit tarts, and Panna Cotta (sometimes). So they seem to have something for everyone's palette. This is pricier than most old school bake shops but the level of baked goods offered is a cut above the rest. I like the variety they offer and I still get sticker shock at the counter but it's a good thing they accept credit cards! My favorites: cream milk bun, turtle (pineapple) bun, hot dog bunny, egg tarts (quickly sells out), and the roast pork bun. The cappuccino is my drink of choice here as is the milk tea.

Happy 700th review to me! I lined up this morning with my dad just before 9:30 AM in the pouring rain for Bake Culture's Grand Opening inside of New Age Supermarket but remember the bakery does have their own entrance. Van Ness Wu (吳建豪 ) and Calvin (辰亦儒) were already inside and having their breakfast. The security guard made us formed three lines then he handed everyone a number because the first 100 customers receive a FREE PASTRY! I was number 30 and my dad was number 34. We were supposed to head inside at 10:15 am which things led to around 11ish. There were many reporters interviewing them. Later on, the security guard started pulling out people from the lines that have reserved vouchers...I didn't know about that ::sad face:: The staff was promoting 3 flavored croissants (6 in a box) which you must purchase at a price of $28 in order to get autographs from Vanness and Calvin. At first, they were letting in 5 people from the three lines along with 5 people with the reserved vouchers...jeez christ it was such a long process! Me and my dad finally got inside wooo hooo...the girl to our right was collecting the tickets and the girl to our left was handing out the FREE PASTRY...an egg tart! OMG, Vanness and Calvin were just chilling at the table on my left as I was taking pictures of their baked good for Yelp of course...=) I was STAR STRUCK man =) I smiled at them and they smiled back *hubba hubba* made my heart beat...OMG, I love Vanness since he was in F4 and who can forget Meteor Garden 1 & 2 which I have on DVDs baby! When you buy up to $10, you can get a $10 voucher or take your prize with spinning the wheel. I took my chance with the wheel baby! I grabbed Cream Cheese Bread, Bacon Croissant, Pineapple Roast Pork Bun Mini, and etc and had to add a Strawberry Panna Cotta because I was under $10. The price points are inexpensive. The sticker on the bag indicated your receipt for your transaction. I walked over to the supermarket where I can spin the wheel. Woohooo received a coupon card for my next visit. Today definitely made my day =) Note: Many moons ago this location used to be a movie theater where my brother and I saw Power Rangers =)

I am a fan of the pandan flavor desserts and bought two that I wanted to try. One being a roll cake and the other layer cake. The pandan roll cake with taro I was told is a specialty that they only have on weekends. It was really flavorful, moist and spongy, just perfectly touched with a dash of sweetness in both the cake and the cream - I personally don't like overly sweet foods, and this is just perfect for me and my mom. I'm equally pleased with the layer cake as well it was very fresh and have that "QQ" texture - deliciously chewy and bouncy. This too, just hit right for me on the gentle sweetness, the pandan flavor keeping the spotlight in this dessert. My mom and I are big fans of these desserts. We just came back trying out others pandan layer cakes in Downtown Flushing and this shop beats them by a large margin. I hope to come back more when we could even though this shop is quite a distance for us.

I walked into a clean, well lit space designed for quick selection rather than lingering, and the display cases were filled with brightly decorated cakes and pastries that looked consistently fresh. The mango based cakes are the most consistent thing here. I tried one and found it light, creamy, and built around fresh fruit rather than overly heavy frosting, which made it easy to finish even after a full meal. The matcha cake also worked well, leaning more milky than bitter, with a soft sponge that held its structure without feeling dry. The pork floss cakes are one of the more interesting savory sweet options, and they came out better than I expected since they did not go overboard on sweetness. The croissants and egg tarts are solid supporting items rather than the main reason to come. The croissant I had was flaky with a noticeable butter layer, and the egg tart was best eaten warm as the custard tightens up when cold. The purple rice desserts are heavier but work if I want something more filling and texturally different from the fruit cakes. Service was generally efficient even when the bakery was busy, and the staff moved through orders quickly. Prices sit a bit higher than older style Flushing bakeries, but the tradeoff is cleaner presentation, more modern flavor combinations, and consistently fresh looking cakes. For a modern bakery stop in Flushing, Shakalaka delivers on quality and visual appeal.

The matcha red bean loaf grabbed my attention straight away and didn't disappoint, but their red bean bun was just as impressive, as it's a more bread-y counterpart to the fluffy versions other bakeries typically have. The onioissant is definitely experimental and worked better on the chive bacon cream cheese one than on the pollack roe, which was a bit too much on the salty and fishy side for my liking. Their chocolate horn is at least twice as big as a typical one you'll find at other bakeries and has a rich dark chocolate filling which was a pleasant surprise.
